The worst fish and chips I have ever had and I was once served fish that still had some of the skin on it at a different place and it was better. I had the 2 piece cod and chips with a side of coleslaw and I went ahead and splurged for the large tartar sauce. This is the first seafood place I have ever been to that charges for tartar sauce, sad! I would compare the fish to cheap breaded fish you might get from the grocery outlet (because it wouldn't sell the first time around) and you take it home and you don't get it baked long enough but you eat it anyway. I rarely leave reviews but this time I feel like I need to. Over priced yes, but it's by the water and makes for an easy stop on the way home. Food tasted ok, both of my kids inhaled it. My biggest problem was the guy standing on the countertop spraying chemicals on the tile wall directly over the chowder, chowder bowls and lids. This was at 12:30 pm on a Sunday, not even close to closing time and in plain view of the customers. We love spuds, but hate getting to the location in West Seattle or Greenwood. So we were as happy as clams when we pulled up to a parking spot on a sunny Saturday and discovered they opened up here. We have the pup with us and we weren't fishing for lunch, but as soon as we saw their sign we made a bee line for a little snack. Since we had the dog with us we had to eat outside. They have a neat little outdoor seating area with plenty of room to spread out - but the big downside is - no umbrellas (hence the minus one). It was almost high noon, the sun was beating down and holy mackerel it was getting warm. There was no place to hide from the sun. The dog's leash was big enough that she was able to take shelter in the shade under the overhang, but I walked away with my shoulders getting a bit red lobster. But I digress... Chips are great, the portion sizes of the fish are large, not too greasy. Their tarter sauce was a little runny - not sure what was up with that? Can't comment on drinks since we opted for bottled Iced tea. Price was reasonable! It was busy but the wait time was less than 10 minutes. No view of the water like West Seattle, and no view of green space like greenwood, just a view of the parking lot. Not sure this is even 2 stars. I got a three piece fish and chips with two tarter sauce - $20.00 (well $19.69). I can get a fish and chips dinner for less than that at Arnies or Anthonies and I probably get bread and a salad. In addition the service might even be faster. Spuds is pretty slow for what you'd consider fast food. I wanted the order to go and they wrapped it, had to ask for a bag. They gave me a little bag that the tarter would barely fit into. "For twenty dollars I should get a bag the order will fit in" - they gave me one so I could put my order in it. The amount of fries I got was ridiculously small and the fish is over battered. Ivars, Burger Master or Kidd Valley have better food. Go to Arnies and have a nice dinner for less cost (not including the tip). read more

This place is not to the standard that the other Spud's in this area have set. All the deep fried food was undercooked. A couple oysters mad more batter than oyster and some was uncooked. My husband and I came upon this place by accident. We were actually around the corner hoping to eat at another delicious restaurant but were disappointed to find out that they didn't open til 3pm. We ordered asking her opinion of what she thought was better of two choices on the menu. She gladly obliged and offered her opinion. I always ask just for the fact that an employee who actually eats the food they're serving and has favorites is a good sign. It was just before the lunch hour so there were plenty of choices for seating. The food arrived and the first bite I took was that of the mushrooms. It didn't disappoint and I didn't even have to dip it in anything. Next was my cod n chips. All which were good. Hubby ordered the butterfly shrimp and although I'm not really a shrimp person I thought I'd take a bite. It was extremely buttery. So much so that I didn't really taste any shrimp. My next disappointment was the clam chowder. I absolutely love clam chowder, but not this one. Two words, no flavor. I added crackers and pepper and still nothing. Blah. And I don't know how, but every bite of the other food after that was so salty. Needless to say, as good as it started... well, let's just say it was just at the start. A lot of people showed up for lunch and by the time we were done the restaurant was almost full. I've been at other Spuds and they've been good experiences. Went in the early afternoon. The place had two people. I ordered two piece cod and fries and fish sandwich to go. The service was good. Friendly but they are not the Spuds Restaurant at Green Lake! I just wanted to have lunch on NYE at a place that was open and that had enough space to take my double stroller inside. Go ahead and mom shame me. I got tartar sauce (after reading other Yelp reviews, I didn't realize they charged extra for it) after stammering to remember what it was called when the guy taking my order asked me if I wanted sauce. Side note: On top of ordering anxiety, mom brain makes it even worse. When my order came out, I was kind of disappointed. It was a quite thin piece of breaded fish on top of the fries in one of those little paper baskets. I would have expected this presentation from a food truck where space is scarce. I dunno. I suppose I should not expect presentation from a fast food joint. Fries were ok. At the very least I remembered they were hot and there weren't any burnt, crispy ones. Overall, the choices seem slim and there aren't any pictures on the menu (a negative for people who like to eat with their eyes/stomach like myself). I was excited to have salty fried pickles and then when I unwrapped them from the paper and saw the telltale red flakes and greasy, orange hue of the breading the anger started building..... my kind husband tried one and said..."I'm sorry"... and.....who does that!!!??? Terrible, not even good pickles inside. SPUD you will never be in the same league as IVAR'S. Overpriced for sure. When I called in an order I was told the halibut and chips was like $10 per price of halibut. So I ordered a one piece of halibut and chips, and a 3 piece of cod and chips and a cup of clam chowder. What a disappointment. The halibut, which in my world is usually nice and thick and firm, was terrible. With breading it was less then 1/4 inch when we got it and it tasted like leather. The cod was better. I think they either cut it very thin or they substituted rock fish for it. But still $10 a piece and not worth it. The chowder had way to much pepper so I could not finish a cup of it. Next time I will go to Ivars and get a good piece of fish and delicious chowder. I haven't been to a spuds in over 40 years and guess I won't go again. Ivars here I come. read more

I just had their food delivered to work through ubereats. Everything was super fresh and tasted amazing. The cod was delicious, the chowder was perfect, and the onion rings and zucchini were bomb. The cod fish and chips is quite good and I like the tartar sauce a lot. The 2 piece cod and chips was $10.50 + 50 cents for a large sauce. They do charge for sauces. 25 cents for a small, 50 cents for a large. The large is quite a big portion and plenty for 2-3 pieces of fish. The sea-sar salad was around $8 with bay shrimp included. Decent portion. The chicken strips only order is very small. The strips are tiny. Don't order this and count on being full. The service is bare bones counter service, they don't do anything for you. Even when they're already straightening chairs nearby, they won't take your tray. The kids working here look like they couldn't care any less than they do about their jobs. Very passive. The restaurant is kid friendly in the respect that it's casual and kids can eat and enjoy some of the items (fish, chicken, fries) but there is no changing room in the restroom. This continues to baffle me when casual restaurants that seem to be catering towards families don't have changing tables. The restaurant was very cold and the restroom was frigid. The HVAC in the restaurant is very noisy. It's hard to hear the person sitting at your table when talking at a normal volume. We will probably come back but likely not until it's warmer out. Each meal ended up costing about$16 including coleslaw (which was good), a small drink and a prepackaged tartar sauce (which was NOT good). Fish was piled on top of a small container of fries so to get to the fries you had to move the fish on to the tray!! I used a pile of napkins - and then, finally, the malt vinegar that wasn't! oh, and the vinegar with weird floaty thingies. And even more finally it was corn meal battered and I do prefer beer-batter. Also, very minimalist industrial decor - and freezing inside. Today I was waiting in the Edmonds/Kingston ferry line and feeling a bit peckish and delighted when I notice the Edmonds Spuds. I ordered a 2 piece fish and chips and a small chowder. It was $20!!!! for 2 pieces of fish, a cup of chowder and essentially no service, dishes etc. No beverage either. Oh yes, they charged for the tartar too with these ridiculous prices. The fries were underdone....soggy, the fish; overdone and dry, and the chowder...OMG the chowder, it tasted like a rue with a few clam bits thrown in. It was gritty with thickener and bland...flavorless. If I had to guess the recipe I'd say it was milk or water with flour and a couple clam parts. On a positive note...it was clean. Perhaps I'll try Alki again to see if it's the whole chain but not Edmonds, Yikes. read more

Meh maybe it's better if you just get fish and chips. I got hot chocolate, clam chowder, and clams. Worst hot chocolate I've ever had. So watered down. Hardly tasted like chocolate and just watery. Wound up adding creamer to make it half bearable. Just not good, couldn't even finish it. I wasn't expecting anything gourmet, but I feel like there's a standard for cheap hot chocolate from fast food joints and this was far below that standard. This was my first experience here. It was 7:20, near their 8 pm closing time. I ordered one-piece fish & chips and was puzzled by the way it was served. The french fries were in a small tray with the fish piece piled on top. It's not easy to cut a piece of fish on top of fries. I finally transferred the fish to a napkin.
