This spot is hidden in Marietta Square, beside the railroad tracks. You have to walk between the railroad tracks and a large mural to find Spring's entrance. But it gives it a more calm feel, away from the business in the rest of Marietta Square. The food was so yummy. We ordered two dishes, and both of them were amazing. And the dessert was great, too. So many layers of different chocolate components are hidden in their chocolate dessert. It's a nice surprise. And we closed out the evening with a coffee, too. It's a nice place for a date. Returned one year later and did not find the experience as memorable. The spring +'s: + Pleasant and unpretentious service The fall -'s: - Entrees' finesse fell. With reluctance I write that the meals were not executed as brilliantly as my first visit. Duck breast was tough. Hard to cut through the meat. We could have complained when they had asked how were our meals and give them a chance to redo. Simply put there was no time for the hassle. Perhaps our bill would have been partly comped. I don't know but it wasn't a priority. -Flatiron was fine but not compelled to have it again. The short rib however was more successful than then flatiron. - Dessert was disappointing. Corn custard with popcorn was not a favorite at the table. Having popcorn on my food is passé and doesn't add to the experience. It's been a long time since I've been to a restaurant and was blown away. Restaurants nowadays pay an inordinate amount of attention to tasting menus, plating, or being trendy. All of that is fine, but what I really want is an outstanding meal. A meal to remember. The dinner at Spring was both outstanding and memorable. Starters included the Chicken Liver Pate and Fried Oysters. The pistachio and blueberry along with the brioche made the Pate pop. Oysters were fresh and delicious. How often do you see persimmons on the menu? All the flavor layers in the Persimmon Salad that included endive, Asher Blue cheese and pecans was unbelievable. Husband said the Beef Carpaccio was very good as well. Entrees were Spinach Pappardelle (recommended by the server) and Pan Roasted Atlantic Fluke. House made spinach pappardelle with an assortment of wild mushrooms. Absolute deliciousness. Husband loves all types of fish but had never eaten Fluke. The fish with a beurre blanc was, once again, absolute deliciousness. Although we were really too full for dessert, the combination of dark chocolate cremeaux, beet sorbet and candied beets sounded interesting. SUMMARY (for those short on time) Spring is fine dining with a casual atmosphere - the perfect combination! They serve a small seasonal menu using locally sourced, sustainable ingredients. I'd highly recommend dining here for any special occasion or if you just want to celebrate life! PRE-DINING I heard about Spring through a virtual cooking class held by a famous local chef, Kevin Gillespie. After receiving the recommendation, I periodically checked to get a reservation. Finally a friend was able to snag a table for 5 on a Saturday (3/27/21) at 8pm via Resy. We learned after dining there it was their first weekend open with a full staff, and prior to that were only operating with two staff and very limited seating (thus the challenge to snag a reservation!). We parked across the railroad tracks in one of the free lots and then found our way to the back of the building, passing by the Thaicoon restaurant (so look for that and head around back). AMBIANCE The dining room is very small but has a cozy feel to it. They have tables cleared out due to Covid, but commented they enjoyed the ability to provide more elevated service with a reduced number of customers to serve. When we arrived at 8pm we were the only party there, but shortly after the other reservations trickled in filling up the tables. In total they currently have around 5-6 tables a night at one time. SERVICE The service was exceptional, with several different staff tending to us throughout the evening. I appreciated the in depth knowledge of the food and the wine, with detailed explanations of both when being served to us. F & B The beverage menu consists of only beer and wine (no liquor = no cocktails) which was really fine. The wine menu has wine by the glass, half bottle and full bottle, all of which have been intentionally selected to pair with courses on the menu. The food menu is on the smaller side with starters, mains and desserts. I can say our group tried almost everything on the menu and really loved it all. I feel like this little secret is getting out. This place is GOOOOOOD. We went to celebrate our anniversary and it did not disappoint. Highlights: *wagyu beef app *beef and fig salad with 25 yr aged balsamic *grouper pan seared with garden veggies *potato gnocchi *chocolate & hazelnut ....literally everything we ordered was a highlight. Creative, interesting and limited menu. This has all the makings of a five star establishment however two comments on my four star reasoning. First of all there is no liquor (wine and beer only) which makes it harder to relax for a few before order and I also think it contributes to the very high food prices since they aren't able to make any money on cocktail's. My second point is that it felt a little rushed. This one is hard to quantify since I don't like to wait for my food, however I think they are a bit over the line of rushed vs. prompt. We had a wonderful time at Spring in Marietta. The food was delightful, and the staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating. Snacks: The light and crispy fried oysters, the tangy umami of the soy, and the beautiful herbal green parsley sauce exceeded my expectations. The deep-colored seared tuna was perfectly prepared with a buttery texture, paired with the savory heat of the bright red chili oil - truly delectable. Mains: The flakey red snapper and thin, crispy eggplant, combined with the snap of the squash, sit on a creamy tomato sauce, creating an exciting and satisfying bite full of texture. Our 'turf' was grilled to pink perfection with a peppery crust paired with the grilled bright and sharp banana pepper wearing its smokey black char. The flatiron shared the plate with this season's beans and peas, bringing the snap and freshness of eating veg fresh off the vine. The pistou (Parisian pesto) rounded out the dish with the herbal sweet anise notes from the basil and garlic-infused oil that coated the moth wonderfully. Dessert: We finished the dinner with the multilayer sorbet. The palette of white, greens, and yellows combined with the scents of fresh melon completed the sensory experience of a delightful dessert's cold cream and sweet, honeyed flavors. The star of the show had to be the silky, almost yeasty foie gras pate. The pate, drizzled with the rich plum reduction and sprinkled with crunchy pistachios, found its way to the fluffy, sugary milk bread and laid to rest any doubt one could have about foie gras. This used to be a French restaurant. Thought we'd check out what the brouhaha was with this new Michelin star restaurant now in its place. I must say we were not disappointed. It's by the train tracks which we thought was cool. Kind of garage grungy ambiance. Pleasant background noise but we were able to have a conversation easily. I saw a kid in one of the tables... I was seriously happy with the service. We had a team of wait staff. People took ownership and the plates were cleared and water refilled, crumbs cleared as needed without delay by anyone who noticed. The food was different and tasty. I enjoyed my starter, main course and dessert. I didn't order a drink. They seemed to have an extensive wine list but I don't like wine. The husband got a beer which I liked. My order was adapted to my vegetarian restrictions and my family got their regular food. I would recommend this place and already have to friends. I would definitely like to go back. read more

This modest little spot seems like a pleasant, non-corporate, cute little dinner place. I was struck by how there were absolutely no paintings on this giant white wall, but there were beautiful fresh flowers in a tiny little vase on the table. I'll tell you what- Plain Jane WOW'd me. The food was exceptional! I love love love food, and I love cooking. I love food so much that I would rather cook and deal with dishes than have a subpar version at a restaurant. Dude. IT WAS LIKE EATING ART!!! The chefs prepared a beautiful meal with so much love and care. Wow! My entire family are still drooling over our amazing dining adventure at Spring from a week ago. Spring is a cozy hole-in-the-wall new American restaurant at Marietta Square. Since it's right next to the train tracks, choo-choo comes by occasionally during our dinner -- which we see an unique experience. Service is good, but a bit slow since the server needs to take care of a good number of tables at the same time. Parking is plentiful and free after 6pm and weekends. Spring's menu is seasonal utilizing fresh local ingredients. To keep all dishes top-notch, its menu is very small (limited to 4 appetizer, entree and dessert choices daily). We tried them all, and found every single dish prepared very well. Our favorites for the night includes oxtail soup (Appetizer), garganneli (Pasta) and gianduja custard (Dessert). Oxtail soup carries fresh flavors with great textures from various root vegetables. Garganneli pasta dish is light and flavorful. Pasta are rolled extremely well, while we love the combination of black trumpets, truffles and squash. Gianduja custard was one of the best dessert I have tried for a very long time. We just couldn't resisting licking the dessert bowl! has the perfect balance of crunchiness (from the hazelnut crumbles), fruitiness (from the cherries) and the smooth foams on top (hazelnut cream). Farm-to-table New American restaurants are a dime a dozen these days. Sure, a lot are good, but only a handful have really impressed me and had me thinking about them for days, weeks, and months after my visit. Spring is one of them. The food at this restaurant is pretty close to, if not, perfection. I normally don't pay attention to restaurant rankings, but I thought these recent rankings for Spring were well-deserved: No. 4 best new restaurant in Atlanta 2017 by Atlanta Magazine (http://www.atlantamagazine.com/list/atlantas-best-new-restaurants-2017/spring/) and No. 7 best new restaurant in the country 2017 by Bon Appetit (https://www.bonappetit.com/story/spring). Spring is currently one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta and one at the top of my recommendations list. I wouldn't hesitate to suggest this place to anyone looking for outstanding food. Not only is the food great, but the prices are more than reasonable (especially for a restaurant of this caliber), the service is excellent, and the ambiance is welcoming and unpretentious. Spring is located just off Marietta Square. Is it worth the 30-minute drive from Atlanta? Yes. The restaurant occupies the space that used to belong to Le Cafe Crepe (https://www.yelp.com/biz/le-cafe-crepe-marietta), a longstanding French restaurant that was also recognized by Atlanta Magazine (over 20 years ago). The storefront is hidden from street view and its address can be confusing. The easiest directions I can give are Spring is around the corner from Thaicoon & Sushi Bar, right next to the railroad tracks (at least two trains noisily zoomed by during our dinner here -- it's part of the atmosphere). Free street parking is available on and around the Square. Free parking is also available in a surface lot at the corner of Mill St and N Marietta Pkwy. Reservations are recommended and you can book them on Spring's website at www.springrestaurant.com. The restaurant is small and cozy. It's got simple decor and the business appears to be a tightly run ship. If you go to the restroom, you'll pass by the kitchen and notice that it, too, is tiny. The menu matches the restaurant in terms of its smallness and simplicity: four appetizers, four entrees, and four desserts with a relatively abbreviated beverage list. I like that and think more restaurants should have smaller menus. Spring's menu is truly seasonal with dishes changing on a daily basis (we were told less often in the winter and more often in the spring and summer). When we visited, we tried all 12 of the menu's dishes. Generally, the dishes weren't lavish or groundbreaking. They didn't try to punch me in the face with certain ingredients or flavors. Instead, the dishes were simple and elegant, flawlessly executed with subtle and nuanced tastes and textures. All of the ingredients worked really well together. My favorites from each course were the persimmon salad, potato gnocchi, and yogurt panna cotta. The persimmons were soft, ripe, and delicately sweet. The dish had a terrific, rich mouthfeel which I really enjoyed. The gnocchi was perhaps the best I've ever had - soft, doughy, and incredibly appetizing. Our table agreed the panna cotta was the best dessert. It looked like a work of art (all of the dishes are presented beautifully here) and its taste was dangerously addictive. I liked the crisp bits of apple and caviar in the cauliflower soup. I appreciated how the chicken liver pate (amazing) and other ingredients were generously spread on the toast for us. The steak tartare was expertly prepared and had a complex flavor profile. The beurre blanc on the snapper was a game-changer. Both the duck breast and beef tenderloin were cooked perfectly with the latter mouthwateringly seasoned. Wow, what an amazing dinner we had here. According to my friend, Spring is the 7th best new restaurant in America according to Bon Apetit. And it certainly didn't disappoint. I appreciate that the menu is small so that there's not a lot of decision making needed. An extra plus for the fact that everything tasted great, so you really can't go wrong with your choice. There were 4 appetizers, 4 entrees, and 4 desserts to choose from. Luckily, we had a party size of 4, so we ordered one of everything! The restaurant rotates its menu on a seasonal basis, and occasionally rotates a few items on it's menu based on what's available, as all of its ingredients are farm to table. So if you're into organic food, this place is right for you. Starting with the appetizers, they featured Persimmon salad, Cauliflower soup, Chicken liver pate on toast, and Grass-fed steak tartare. I'll start by saying that I loved all of their started menu items. But my favorite was the Cauliflower soup. I couldn't put my finger on exactly what it was that made it taste so great. But then I realized it had oesetra caviar sprinkled into the soup, and that very well could've been the difference maker. For the Main entrees, we tried the Potato gnocchi, Pan-seared red snapper, Pan roasted duck breast, and Roasted beef tenderloin. According to the chef, the Pan-seared red snapper is a staple menu item, as the customers love it so much that is the one item that they will not let the restaurant move off its menu. And I have to agree, it was really great. My favorite, though, was the Pan roasted duck. It was cooked just perfectly, with the right amount of crispness to it. I would love to order this again. For dessert, we ordered the Chocolate tart, the Pannacotta, Parsnip ice cream, and the Green apple sorbet. I was not a fan of the Chocolate tart, but the other at my table thought it was pretty good. One thing we all agreed on was that the chocolate was a bit too dry. And for me, it tasted just a bit too sour as well. I really loved the Parsnip ice cream. It tasted much like a banana foster, but without the alcoholic taste to it. Everything in this dish went together perfectly. The Green apple sorbet was probably the least exciting looking dish of the night. It was simply a scoop of sorbet. It tasted ok, but this is one item you could go without. Overall, I loved the cozy, private feel of the restaurant. It's located in a somewhat difficult to find location next to the train tracks. And you'll see an occasional train pass by during your meal. But it is not noisy or distracting at all. The restaurant apparently used to be an old crepe restaurant that closed down a few years ago. The wait staff was very friendly and were more than willing to answer all of our questions about the food, the way it is prepared, where the recipes come from, and the history of the restaurant itself. We were certainly the curious bunch, as we enjoyed our meal so much that we wanted to know more about how they got to be so highly rated. I've had this place on my list for a while, and we finally made the drive from midtown Atlanta. It was worth every penny! We came with two friends (4 total) and we were seated promptly. The service was truly impeccable and the food was delicious. The menu is small, so we ordered almost everything to share. The entrees were decent sized and between the drinks and starters we were all full by the time we got to dessert. I really liked how the restaurant was small and they were able to be attentive... it's unusual to get this type of service and great food while many restaurants are struggling with labor shortages... whatever it is, they're doing something right! read more

Maybe the expectation was too high. Couldn't get a reservation until 2-3 weeks out which got my expectation even higher. Food was decent actually but nothing that stands out or special. Seemed like any other ordinary menu/taste you could get at restaurants in Buckhead or Midtown. I was thinking maybe the hype was because of the location. It definitely does stand out from other restaurants in Marietta but it wouldn't be worth for me to drive all the way out here for it. Friendly service and staff though. Restaurant itself is very tiny. Felt somewhat claustrophobic. Decor is very rustic, possibly the theme they are going for but the price doesn't reflect this, ironically. First time coming here, and felt felt rushed the whole time. Ordered a bottle of wine, ready for a great night. but the whole service scheme is to get you in and out. They force you to order everything upfront....starter, main and desert. As soon as you are done with the plate they whisk it away. Tried to slow things down and just order a salad as I wasn't sure what I wanted for my meal, was told by the manager that he was holding my salad until we were ready to order my main. And the reason was that it took 45 min to make the main course... So we then ordered the main, canceled the salad, and the main arrived in11 min, not 45!!! When I mentioned to the manager that it only took 11 min, he said "you should just enjoy your meal"!!!! WTF!!! Being a Square resident, I've eaten here twice now. And sure, it's pretty good. However, if you're going to be THE fine dining destination of Marietta Square - home to a lot of good food - you better knock it out of the park. Spring just doesn't. It delivers on the standard fine dining tropes - multiple courses, small portions, purees, dollops, a foam here and there...all that stuff. But I haven't had anything at Spring that was exciting, innovative, or new. It's really standard stuff. If I'm going to pay hundreds of dollars for a 2-person fine dining meal, I'm going to places like Gunshow or Lazy Betty, where they push the envelope a bit and use exciting ingredients and/or techniques that I haven't seen 20 times before. If you want a truly memorable meal on Marietta Square, go to Hamp & Harry's. Spring is old-fashioned, reminiscent of late 90's/early 2000's fine dining that has not progressed at all. read more

First of all it is very hard to find and hard to park, they have NO parking nor validate. Street parking is the closest. There is a SMALL public parking -two hour limit, across Starbucks . As to finding it, look for Thaicoon is on the corner and THEN there is a small black and white sign that says"SPRING" no arrow, so one does why that sign exist OR that it represents a restaurant. So walk along the railroad tracks and the place is on the Railroad track on the right. THEY DO NOT have wheelchair access. Aside from that the food is very tasty. I had the duck with beets and huckleberry. Their Medium rare is a tad over cooked, not as tender as I would have liked, so even if I asked for it to redone not sure I would have gotten one any more tender. There really are not sides to order. So it is disappointing that it is plated 'naked'. My friend had Snapper that was very good. Crisp and moist inside. Her dessert was also very good , I wish I had ordered it :-( , It was had a Hazelnut brittle like middle layer. I would return. read more

My girlfriend suggested we go to Spring for dinner on a Wednesday evening based on her hearing all the rave reviews about this new Marietta restaurant. I had no idea how popular this place would be and noticed the menu changes constantly so I called ahead to make reservations and to ask about the night's menu. The hostess patiently read the main dishes to me and said reservations would not be necessary as they are not too packed on weeknights. The restaurant is location along a back alley next to the train tracks. Follow the sign off the busy street that says "Spring", make two rights, and you're there! My girlfriend and I had trouble finding parking and didn't realize there's actually a parking lot for the restaurant, which you'll have to discover through a not-so-obvious alleyway. Upon walking in, the restaurant was about 70% full and we had no wait in getting a table. The restaurant is much smaller than I expected, and the dim lighting, brick accents, and comfortable white color schemes makes it the perfect intimate date spot. We were greeted shortly after being seated and ordering proceeded seamlessly. Not in the mood for alcohol, I ordered a sweetened Rishi iced tea and based on the server's recommendation, the Pan-seared Maine scallops: red kuri squash puree, savoy cabbage, fingerling potatoes, carrot, black trumpet mushroom, for my meal. The tea is delicious - it has a light, floral note and is lightly sweetened, but I was surprised as this is not indicated on the menu. The scallops? Oh my goodness, so delicious! Everything on my plate worked so well together, and the squash puree, with its hint of sweetness, really took the plate over the top. Even at a pricey $28, I loved the dish! Unfortunately, one of the major criticisms of this restaurant that serves incredibly delicious food is the service. There were two servers that evening, and they walked by a combined 4 times without asking to refill my then-empty tea. There was very little follow up or checking up on us, and this is something I would expect, especially for a new restaurant. When we received our check, we asked the server to "split" our check with our two cards, but she returns to the table asking who owns each card. She then gave us both our slips, charging us for our individual orders. Maybe it's the inexperience of new servers at this restaurant, but the quality of service is what I truly feels this place needs to bring it into a perfect experience. We had a wonderful meal. Crudo was perfect - dressed to allow the pure quality of the fish to shine through. Halibut entree was generous and perfectly prepared. Duck breast done medium rare was rich and meaty and served with a few huckleberry especially underneath. The beet salad was the only dinner item we found solidly good but not out of this world. If I had one knock on the place - it would be their dessert list (parfait, rice pudding, custard, and sorbet: all four items were 'wet' desserts). I would have preferred to see something baked included. We gave the strawberry parfait (slivers of strawberry atop a 2" round of vanilla ice cream atop a graham cracker-type crust - with a squeeze of lime topping all) a shot and found it just okay. Speaking of baked items - their complimentary in-house sourdough/wheat and ultra-butter-fat butter were good enough to, alongside some wine, make a meal by themselves. If you're a foodie who likes small plates with interesting mixes of ingredients and flavors this place is for you. The chicken liver had a pistachio and strawberry gelatin mixture that you put on a milk bread. A must try is the Ajo Blanco, a cold fruity soup with green apple, grapes, and almonds. This place is ridiculously good. I haven't had a meal this thoughtful, fresh and seasonal since I left the Pacific Northwest. The persimmon salad with a slice of humbolt fog cheese... I could do that a thousand times. The sun choke soup was memorable and super rich. The red snapper was the most buttery dish I've ever had and the Strip steak superb. I don't want to butcher the names of our two desserts but they were the perfect ending to a perfect dinner! read more

The service was impeccable. From the moment we booked our reservation until the moment we paid our check, Spring truly made us feel like special patrons. After booking our reservation, I received a call from the restaurant asking if my party had any dietary restrictions. The hosts and waitress were immensely knowledgeable and gracious. As for the food, the starters were next level. We tried the oysters and pâté. The oysters were a bit frozen with heavy lime flavor. The oyster was not showcased, but overall the experience was enjoyable. The pâté didn't taste at all like liver, which was refreshing, but I did think that overall the dish was a bit heavy on the bread. For entrees we ordered the fluke and venison, both were beautiful in presentation but lacked synergy between the ingredients. Both dishes had immense umami flavors and were cooked to perfection, however they both lacked salt and acid. The flavor profile was a bit mediocre. Both dishes had abundant richness, but both required juxtaposition of acidity. We did not try desserts, but I would highly recommend visiting the establishment to see if their desserts are worth a try. read more

This has to be by far the best restaurant in Cobb County and second to none in Metro Atlanta. The ambience of the not crowded or loud or busy style atmosphere is wonderful, the service is phenomenal, and I cannot say enough about how great the food is. From appetizer to bread and butter, to main courses, specials, and dessert. This is far too good of a place to go to on only special occasions, but also that good that you feel like you should only reserve it for special occasions. That is the only dilemma one will face at spring. read more

Best upscale restaurant in Marietta Square. We celebrated our anniversary here and the menu and staff do not disappoint.

Everything was really good and the service was impeccable. The only downside is that they do not have any cocktails, only beer and wine. We started with the oysters. They were good but additional ingredients overpowered the oysters. I did enjoy the flavor and how refreshing they were though. We also had some of the polenta sourdough which was truly amazing! It was probably the best sourdough I have ever had, perfectly crispy crust with a soft and airy crumb. I got the lobster garganelli and my husband got the venison for our mains. Both were delicious! They were cooked well, balanced in flavor, and had the perfect portion size. We ended with the tarte tatin, which was truly perfect! I can't recommend that dessert enough. Overall, we had a great experience. Our overall service was wonderful and the food was very good! I just wish they had cocktails. I think overall, I would give our experience 4.5/5 stars. read more
