It was a strange experience in a bad way. I went in and ordered 2 separate half dozen bagels. The guy who was running the register took my cash, $26 I believe, set it aside, and then deleted the items on the POS in front of me. Sir, I work in the restaurant industry, and I know the Toast system well. He proceeded to not wash his hands after handling the cash as he packaged the everything bagels that were very unevenly cooked, the outsides were half black and burnt to a crisp. I asked him politely if he could not use the burnt ones and he looked at me flatly and put extra bagels in the bag which were equally burnt. Taste-wise they were terrible and not what I've come to expect from Spread. Just a bad experience all around and I don't recommend this place to anyone. read more

First, I ordered one without capers and they both came with capers. Second, it looked like the sandwiches were just thrown together with zero care. Everything was coming off the bagel and it was an absolute mess. And speaking of the bagel, it was burnt with broken pieces everywhere. If the price was $5, then maybe it would have been ok (not really) but for $41, it should have never left the restaurant. I could not be more disappointed with the Spread. read more

Really lovely spot for breakfast or lunch. The avocado "toast" was really delicious. The bagel sandwich has jam on it which has changed my sister's life. She tells everyone about it. I personally prefer a more traditional NY style bagel, but these are still good. The staff is very friendly. I'll be stopping back. PS: Great job for partnering with a local artist for your bags! Steve is a very great guy but the cooks are very slow. I went one day and they were busy and a baker guy by the name of mario was literally standing there watching his co-workers go through hell, he didn't even think about helping them guys all he did was watch. I went another day and it was only 3 customers in the store and I waited a hour for a bacon egg and cheese!!! When I asked the cashier(Steve) how much longer, he went to ask the cook(mario) and by the look on his face when he came back, he was very frustrated by the cooks. He is a very great worker but he has to deal with a lot of frustrated customers due to the cooks being slow. I hope you guys can get him in a better environment or get rid of this mario guy. read more

First off, let me start by saying that they have one of the coolest locations. There's plenty of off street parking. There's a patio with outside tables and seating and the building itself is very historic and beautifully redone.. Every time I've been there I've been greeted immediately and welcomed. Cute ambiance with a lot of bagel options. My sister really wanted the rosemary olive oil bagel but it was not available, probably due to the fact that we were there on FOJ. We ordered with relatively easiness and it was quite seamless, all of our questions were answered. We were also handed our bagels to go from the fry cook which was a really nice touch. I eat a lot of bagels and my bagel was a solid 3.5/5 and my sister thought here's was decent too. Very tasty bagels and a wide variety of spreads and bagel flavors which I appreciate. They bake them in a wood fired oven and it's something different from the usual PA bagel fare. They were incredibly nice to my mom and I when we went in for bagels and cream cheese. I highly recommend stopping in to get to know the store (rather than order online and complain about a new business working out kinks in the middle of pandemic and hemorrhaging restaurant industry). No indoor seating which was a bummer but I get it. There's an outdoor tent across the street that on a mild day is fine to stop and eat. Bagels were chewy but had a slight crunch because of the wood-fired oven. I loved the vegetable cream cheese and maple bacon spreads. read more

I visited May 8 and they were out of bagels. I was told I could order in advance day before. I had seen Spread Bagelry on FYI Philly & was excited to try. When I attempted to order today, the message stated online ordering was unavailable. I attempted to phone this location & another. They ask you to send a text which is never answered. I tried to choose the option for catering & got a live person who said she could not help with local stores. I was able to order from Bryn Mawr online. If at Wayne location, go to The Sugaree next door. Great Bassett's Ice Cream & wonderful customer service. I would give this location of Spread Bagelry no stars if I could. read more

A super cute bagel shop, my bagel came out fast and the orange juice is delicious. I got the bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel and added avocado. The avocado was ripe and plentiful, the bagel itself was really dense and fluffy, the bacon was crisp and generous, the egg was fluffy and the cheese was melted perfectly. 5/5!! read more

I went to check out Spread after seeing the Philly store on Man Vs Food. It was probably the last time I'll go there. The bagels are mediocre (marginally better than Einstein or Manhattan Bagel, distinctively inferior to Original Bagel in Broomall). They do not have a great chewy crust and the bready interior is dry and mealy. On top of this, Spread is very expensive. $18 for a dozen bagels (compared with $12.50 for a baker's dozen at Original Bagel). A dozen bagels and two containers of cream cheese came to over $30. If the bagels had been out of this world, I might have overlooked the price. But I don't need to pay a premium for a product that is anything but. read more

If you are a walk-in customer, bring a book, cause you'll be waiting a long time after you place your order. Their focus is clearly on phone in orders, with people walking in all the time to pick up their placed orders ... while walk-ins just sit and watch. I've been there twice now for one simple bagel with spread, and waited 15 minutes each tune. And while I was waiting - watching all the phone in activity just passing by - no staff member even acknowledged I was sitting and waiting. A very disappointing experience. Having visited Canada many times I fell on love with "Montreal Style" bagels. The bagels we experienced in Canada were made in brick ovens, not as doughy with a larger center hole, crispy on the outside and very tasty, Unfortunately, the bagels at Spread Baglery do not in any way resemble a "Montreal Style Bagel" . The bagels we received were doughy and dry, lacking crispness and very low on flavor. The two stars awarded were for the contents of the sandwiches ordered. We ordered The Standard and The Nova Scramble. The eggs on both sandwiches were freshly made, other ingredients were also fresh and presented well on the bagel. At the end of the day it's all about the quality of the bagel. Maybe the owners need to visit Toronto or Montreal to taste the real thing. read more

Not ready to be open. I was told my pickup order would be ready at about 10:15. I got there at 10:15 and found that they just put orders on a shelf with first name only. Mine wasn't there. When someone finally waited on me (a long wait), I was told that someone else must have taken my order and that they'd make a new one. The store is narrow and was full of people waiting on both sides for too long, so it started to feel like a COVID corridor. After 20 minutes, I asked about my food. Without saying a word, the counter-person started pushing buttons on the computer. After what seemed like a long time, she said that for whatever reason, they hadn't even started my order. Then the two counter people started arguing about which of them was at fault. It seemed like a good time to leave-- an hour after I placed the order and with no food. They promised a refund, but I haven't seen it yet. All in all, a good place to avoid. A month later, I haven't gotten the refund So it all ends well. I finally reached a very competent and professional manager, Thomas. Thomas apologized for the while incident, quickly got the promised refund issued and even bought us a free breakfast. With Thomas in charge, I think Spread is well worth the trip. read more

This review primarily serves as a testimony of their customer service. It is very frequent that I attempt to call and place an order, only to receive no answer. This has happened on several occasions. When I brought it up in store, the response was "we're busy." If you're that busy that you can't take an order (that will probably take 1 minute to capture) then why is there an option to place an order over the phone?? Today, I finally got ahold of someone, and they told me they couldn't take my order (of 1 item!!) because there was a line at the register. Ever heard of pen and paper?? All that to say, it shouldn't be this difficult to place an order at a bagel store. read more

Spread catered a breakfast for my staff today. It was AMAZING! The Orange juice was fresh squeezed, the bagels were delicious and the breakfast sandwiches were exceptional. There were lox and cream cheese bagel sandwiches STUFFED with Lox..not just a few pieces. The egg sandwiches were also great and the bagels were nice and crusty on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The set up was very nice and they were so easy to work with.
