If there is one thing I HATE worse than door to door sales people, it's door to door salespeople coming to my door at 8:30pm. For the past two days, I have had my evenings interrupted by these cute little eastern European kids that I doubt are old enough to be working. Yesterday a young lady came calling at a reasonable hour and left after I made it clear that I neither shop for, nor buy anything at my front door, be it pest control or religion. Tonight, Lucas rang my door bell after 8:30, scarcely spoke English and just stood their stammering after I expressed dismay at being disturbed at such an obscene hour, and summarily dismissed him. I gave him a chance to leave with his dignity, but he insisted on stammering away, even as I closed the door. Then, to top it all off, he left his calling card on my window sill. Seriously, what kind of company employs young Russian kids and sends them out in the heat doing door to door sales at this hour? I mean is Spott holding their families hostage until they knock down a certain number of contracts? I cannot speak to how their service is, and frankly I don't care. Any company that demonstrates such a marked lack of judgement in it's business practices will not be getting my business, and has inadvertently retained the services of my personal PR firm. Lying door to door sales people. A 20-ish year old kid with a heavy northern european accent came to our door while my wife was on the phone. She repeatedly told him she was not interested, all the while explaining that she was on the phone. He said "I'll just walk around your house and give you an estimate" and proceeded to walk through a gate into our fenced back yard. I came home just as he was rounding the corner. I caught him in the back yard and asked for his identification since he was going door to door. He presented a California drivers license with the name "Janis". He didn't have anything to identify himself as being licensed by the city of Austin to go door to door. The then lied and told me that my wife had told him it was OK for him to go into my yard. After I basically threw him out of my back yard I did some digging and found out that this company has "left" California and come to Texas. They drive groups of young kids out to canvas neighborhoods ala magazine sales groups. The company is located at 6800 Westgate in what is basically a 'bazaar' setting with a bunch of booths and their pest control license in 'not in good standing' with the Structural Pest Control Board. These guys are scammers, liars and crooks, run away. read more

I would give negative stars if I could. I agree with everyone else's reviews/experiences with this company. They have solicited my home 3 times now (and who knows how many times they've tried when we haven't been home). The first time it was the young, blonde, European guy that many others have encountered. He made me extremely uncomfortable and began entering my backyard before I agreed. Once he was done examining the outside of our home, he knocked on my back door (in my backyard). It made me very, very anxious and I felt unsafe. I tried to be nice at first and let him know that we've already decided on a different pest company, but he wouldn't take "no" for an answer and wouldn't leave my backyard. I had to go outside and basically escort him out of my backyard. After continuing his persistence (which seemed to increase into hostility) for quite some time, he finally left and knocked on my next door neighbor's door. Like I mentioned, we've had 2 more visits from this company (that I know of) and their door to door solicitation efforts seem to be increasing in SW Austin (our area). Personally, I've contacted our HOA. My personal advice is don't answer the door for any Spott employee (they'll either drive up in a Spott truck/vehicle or with multiple people piled into a Smart car). read more

Do not give business to a company like this!!! I just had the same experience that the others did with a pushy foreign kid. Although, I'd say he was more in his mid to late 20's. He asked me if I had an exterminator and I told him yes. Then after questioning me more about that and me basically giving him no information (because I wasn't about to share details with him) he asked me, as he was about to walk away, if I knew what kind of bugs were in my neighborhood. I said no because I just moved in a couple months ago. Then as he turned to leave he left me with what felt like a little threat "Oh, you'll find out." I was referred to this company through a friend, and I couldn't be happier with the service. Their service is quick, efficient and thorough. Their staff is courteous, professional and very attentive to my concerns. The moment I saw a sign of a spider, they were out the next day treating my home's perimeter. Long story short, they do NOT guarantee no ants in the yard. What does that mean? Well, that means their regular quarterly/monthly service (which ever you signup for) does not guarantee no ants in your yard. For ants, they do have an ADDITIONAL $200 yearly service that keeps the ants out of your yard. Don't know if that really work. You might think,well, that is OK, We are in Texas, one or two ant mounts in the yard is tolerable, right?! Not until now! I have all kinds of ants in my yard, driveway, flower bed, veg garden, all tree beds, everywhere. And that is when I found out this company does not guarantee no ants in yard. Which explains after 5 yrs with this pest company we have such big issue with ants in OUR yard!! Almost everyone in the neighborhood uses pest control, because this company, all the ants are in our yard now. During one of their visit to resolve the ant issue, their Tech even said we have sooooo many different types of ants in our yard, from fire ant to tree ant, to sugar ant, and a ant that he couldn't identify. Beside ant issue, we don't have issue inside the house, maybe just more silverfish in recent year. It would be funny if they say 'We don't Guarantee Silverfish" but I wouldn't be surprised. At the end of the day, we are cancelling their service. I am outdoor person, there just too many ants crawling in my yard. read more

Had another attempt to gain me as a customer a few weeks ago, and the salesperson was again, someone that didn't understand the word NO. If you want great reviews, find some way else to gain business. 'Door to Door' solicitations are not allowed in our neighborhood, per signs posted upon entry, yet how can I expect a sales person who doesn't take objection well to heed the warning of words on a sign? I've reported your business to our neighborhood association, since this is the second time I've been bothered by one of your sales-people. Please stay out of our neighborhood in Hutto and please don't write with an apology that you really don't mean, nor ask me to consider removing my prior review. If anything, you should ask for an updated review, which in a sense, might help influence visitors to do business with your company. The pest control company we use and have for the past 8 years, gained our business through a word of mouth referral from one of their happy customers and neighbors of ours. I've since passed the good word about them to five friends, all of whom are now their clients. read more

Ok, let's get past the door-to-door issue and talk about service. I was definitely in need of some pest prevention when they came knocking one day. I decided to take a chance and I have been pleased with my service! Getting signed up for service was easy and their services were thoroughly explained to me. Their rates beat out popular competitors, so that's a plus! The initial visit went very well and any nagging pests such as the spiders, ants and mosquitoes were gone in no time. This past visit was also very good. My special request for attic service was taken care of immediately and he identified some great easy pest prevention remedies. THIS WORKS! We live on a creek and for the 2 years since we bought our house (1/4 acre beautiful yard was BIG selling point) we have been tortured by mosquitos. We'd tried everything from tiki torches (like, 20 of them), citronella, mosquito repelling plants, body sprays, a different company that charges less but was totally useless... NOTHING WORKED. We were attacked by the mosquitos and driven indoors for half of the year. I saw a sign in someone's yard and gave it a shot and holy mackerel, eureka! We still sometimes get a bite or 2 at sundown but overall we are VERY satisfied. It rained the day after our first treatment and we got a free retreatment the following week. The only reason we gave it 4 out of 5 stars is that they didn't show for the scheduled retreatment and we had to call, and for the second treatment we had to call again to get a time from them so that we could be home to let them in the back. When we first got here, we were finding critters everywhere, but since spott prevention, pretty much nothing at all. Nothing is 100%, understand, but we have barely seen anything at all in the house. We have used Spott for the barefoot mosquito treatment and it has been great! The mosquitos in our yard were horrible this spring, and being pregnant and fearing zika (along with just hating mosquito bites in general) we knew we needed to find a solution. I have been amazed at how well this treatment has worked for us and recommend them to anyone looking to have a mosquito-free backyard from an environmentally friendly spray. Update to my previous review-- I did get a call back from a very helpful representative who apologized profusely and did the research to determine why my account wasn't billed properly. She fixed that problem and let me know what my September and December appointment dates were. She did call back and make sure it billed correctly and to follow up. Excellent! I tried everything on those darn mosquitos but nothing!!!! Then we went with Spott and FINALLY we could go outside without being chewed up! We have lots of trees and it was a loosing battle. Spott uses their very intense garlic spray and hurray...no more mosquitos! I thought something seemed fishy because he wanted to get a contract going right away but I managed to get the contract info then did some research online. The reviews are true!!!! I can't say anything about their service but that foreign guy came to my house and tried to sell me like a bad used car salesman. Pushy as hell and wanted credit card info or check info so we could set up my "free" trial period. I asked him why he would need that for my free trial period but didn't have a valid response. Said my neighbor had signed up, turns out it wasn't true. So, I was interested in pest control but was immediately turned off when I told him I was going to do some research and he told me not to pay attention to the only reviews!!! Come on! First thing I did was check out the online reviews. Calls me later and when I told him I wasn't going to sign up he hung on me! I thought that was the end of that until I saw him in my neighborhood again and had the nerve to approach me again. I told him I wasn't going to sign up and the guy quickly turned his demeanor to a negative one. This is not in response to their services yet, as I've just signed up. But all this bad press about the advertising methods made me want to respond. I've had three or four different pest control companies come to my door when I'm trying to feed my son or relax before I work (at nights). But this time I had a lovely young Eastern European girl (I'm not sure why the company chooses European young adults with work visas, but they may be the only ones willing to do such crummy job in the Texas heat) came and was very pleasant. I told her I already use another company because I didn't want contracts and she said, "Thanks. I understand." She was walking away when I asked her about the contract pricing. She offered very little of a sales pitch except to tell me what they offer and what the services cost. That was it. She was very pleasant and not rude at all. It was overall a better experience than I've had with any of the other people who come to my door on a regular basis (including family). I'll update this review once I experience the services, but with an A+ rating from BBB and the reviews I've noticed about their service, I'm pretty confident. read more

I hired this company because they offered to split the cost of a full year protection price in 12 months. They're going to come five times during the next year to keep applying the products. The sales rep was an European girl, doing door-to-door sales, she was very nice. The technician came today and he was on time and was very nice and polite, he completed the job in around 30 mins. and answered all my questions. I don't see anything wrong here. I give them 3 stars because this is only the first visit; I still need to evaluate more visits. read more

So far, so good. On my third day after having these guys come out and treat my South Austin back yard, and so far I am beyond satisfied. My yard is one of those with loads of places for mosquitos to live and colonize. One step outside and I am bitten immediately. My daughter, 5, gets scars on her body from all the bites, despite the strongest of Mosquito spray. We've spent over an hour everyday so far in our yard, sans mosquito spray, and not one bite. The scent in somewhat strong at first, but worth it. All I have to do is light a citronella candle and the smell is hardly noticeable. (small price to pay, if you ask me.) Chose these guys over other competitors because they treat UNDER my deck as opposed to just the ground and bushes. Had to saw a small hole for them to get the fumigator under there, but again, well worth it. Hoping this lasts for the duration they say it does. So nice to enjoy my backyard again!!! read more

VERY impressed! Spott treats my neighbor's house, and I was talking with the guy doing the treatment about the mosquitoes and he mentioned he had a treatment which could control them. (BTW: the treatment really works!). He did a test spray of our house, and I mentioned that one of the things I feared were bee stings since I'm anaphylactically allergic to bee stings. He had me go inside, then went around the entire perimeter of the house, AND the trees and got rid of several wasps' nests, a hornet's nest and a small Africanized honeybee hive which was forming under an eave. Every time he's been out, he makes a special effort to check for any wasps' nests or any other stinging insect nest, which REALLY puts my mind at rest when I'm outside! read more

Hell yeah! Had my first treatment for mosquitoes today. Have to admit I'm a skeptic, but on the advice of friends I called Spott and signed up for service. I just spent half an hour SEARCHING for mosquitoes and didn't see 1!! Have I mentioned that I AM an insect buffet? ...or that my signature scent is Benadryl spray? ...or that I haven't seen my backyard since March? The only reason I'm not giving 5stars is because it's day 1 and I need to see how long this lasts (supposed to be 3 weeks). I'll post an update in a few weeks! read more

Ever since we moved in, we have had a horrible mosquito problem in the shady areas, rendering the yard unusable in large places, including the patio. We thought we would just have to live with it. I've been using Spott since Jan '14 and have no complaints! I very, very rarely see a pest in the house that my dog hasn't escorted inside, and have not had a single fire ant. I had to call to reschedule an appointment and got voice mail, but when I emailed I got a very quick response (like within 2 hours). So far I haven't had to ask them to come out between treatments, but they always tell me to call if I do see any bugs. I would expect that a year from now I could easily give 5 stars! read more

I hired these guys to get rid of my ants. I was skeptical that they could because I have used other companies and nothing has really worked long term. I have got to give credit where it is due. This review is about the actual service, not the sales people. For 3 years, I was a customer of another pest company. The Spott guy came to my door back in May. While we were happy with our current company, we were looking to reduce bills, and Spott's service is $10/less per month. Turns out, the extra $10/month was worth it for peace of mind. We never had any pests when we were with the former company. Not long after we switched to Spott, we started having problems with earwigs, roaches, and spiders. Even after coming out here for service twice, the problems continue. I called today in a rage after finding TWO large spiders in my living room. I have two small children, and the thought of them being hurt by something we are PAYING to prevent really upsets me. But of course, even though we've had problems with them, they want to charge me $149 to cancel. They are coming out tomorrow to treat again, and the very next time I see any bugs in my house, we're dropping them. read more

I am not a fan of their sales technique either, but it worked on me and I'm so glad I signed up for their service. They caught me the day after my husband and I decided we needed to find an exterminator and a different company had come by our door the week before with a higher price. The sales person was Eastern European, but I had no problem understanding the terms of the contract and he was understanding when I said I wouldn't give my credit card information to him but that I would contact the company directly with my payment information. Nearly ever person I have had interactions with in the 16 months I've been a customer has been very friendly and accommodating. I had one issue with one technician and I spoke to the company about it and have not seen the guy since. The only other reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that I've had to call twice to see when my next appointment is scheduled. I certainly recommend the company to anyone who asks. read more

WARNING!!! Do you know Spott Pest Prevention still expect's you to pay additional monthly service fee's even when they do not showed up for those months?. They want you the customer to help make their payroll! After refusing to pay for 3 months of non service they then added on another $260.00 to my bill after canceling the service- A service that I never called or went to them for- Real nice people- : ( . So now after they put me in collections they added the bill claim on to my credit report.- Real muscle here folks- Recently had my front landscape bushes dying and cannot stop thinking that they came out and poisoned my soil. I have now installed cameras. My advice is "Do it yourself "and Stay away from this company.- don't sign anything! , refuse to give your social security number! , and report them to the BBB as I have if they persist to be pest's!. read more

You may be put off by there sales technique, (being in sales myself, I have respect for a salesman that can & will rebut an objection,) But if you ever heard them out, went through the numbers, and used their service, I think you might have a different opinion of this company. They offer better service at a lower price than other pest control companies. I have the TAEXX system in my house that is now unused because I get better results from the Spott Pest Prevention technicians. They came out and spent over an hour on the initial treatment to go over our house from top to bottom and really seal it tight. They stopped up all the weep holes with steel wool, they did an extensive sweep of the entire inside of the house and yard, and applied a long lasting but safe solution that seems to work better than injected pesticide from the other guys. All this at a lower price and with a very professional attitude. We just had our third treatment and I'm very satisfied with the results. Perhaps there is a comfort level issue in some of the negative reviews but if you give them a chance, I think you might find a better pest control service at a lower price! read more
