The signage is weak. The only sign is a decal on the window. I drove past it a couple of times before I found it. Don't blink or you will miss it. I don't know how they get any traffic with the sign they have. It was cold inside. Time to turn on the heat. The Spot has a counter in back with a few bakery items. There were eight tables in front. The walls were filled with eclectic items. They have a woman that waits on the tables, provides menu and serves. She spends all her time behind the counter rather than waiting on tables. I ordered a Sara's omelette that includes three vegetables and 3 eggs. I chose spinach, mushroom and broccoli. I had fruit cup of melon, pineapple, cantaloupe and strawberries in lieu of toast and hash browns. The omelet was very good with lots of veggies inside. The fruit cup was on the small size but it beats additional carbs. I had to wait for my bill. I think they forgot about me. I finally had to get up and ask for bill. Finally visited this cute neighborhood "Spot" with my husband. We were surprised when we entered, the inside looks larger and cozier than we expected. It wasn't too busy - there are 6ish tables and one server was waiting tables. She was very warm and friendly. I ordered two eggs over easy and my husband got an omelet. The food was decent, and prices are so affordable. However the potatoes were very bland and hard, and portion was small. Also they had forgotten the potatoes in my order although it comes with the meal but I mentioned it and it was corrected. We also ordered the Belgian waffle to share which definitely isn't "Belgian" style but it was good! Overall decent, I'd come again just for the cozy, warm vibe. This is a very cozy cafe with good food for an unbeatable price. My order: latte, French toast breakfast (home fries with choice of bacon, ham, or sausage- I chose bacon) The latte was one-of-a kind. It arrived and the layers of espresso and milk and foam looked like they were dancing. The French toast was good. Thin slices of what I'm assuming was baguette. I would have liked to see stronger seasoning in the batter or a thicker slice of bread - but no complaints here. The home fries were good, again, I would have liked to see maybe a crispier fry, with a little bit of a spicy kick. Bacon was very thin, but you got three pieces. There was also a nice small bonus of fresh fruit ( just a couple of pieces of cantaloupe, honey-dew melon, and a couple slices of a strawberry. A nice touch! Spot cafe is a small, family run diner with tea pots as the central theme of the cafe. The front is adorned with a teapot collection for sale. While it's very small, they still manage to be understaffed. We didn't get our order taken till at least 15 mins later. Home fries was a miss. Maybe it was just our batch but they were dull, dry, and flavorless. I used to eat at the New Yorker Dinner when in Watertown visiting my uncle. I always enjoyed it as it was full of firemen and cops and had a boston feel. They've been closed due to the current state of affairs so I stumbled upon this place. Run by an Egyptian Family, the staff is amazingly friendly including the 7 year old helping out as a waiter. The omelet sandwich was the most appealing but my parents asked what the owners favorite item was. We were between breakfast and lunch so we decided to go each way. I got the omelet sandwich on a croissant and was very pleased. Tasted great but just wasn't quite big enough to fill me up for breakfast, my only knock. I assume it's a two egg omelet if I went back I'd ask them to double the eggs. I had half of my mother's chicken and rice dish and it had amazing flavor and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Now, if you were going for lunch, and knew the chicken was there GET THE CHICKEN AND RICE. If you're showing up for breakfast and in the mood the omelet sandwich is a good choice. I found my new brunch place! We arrived on a rainy Saturday morning, expecting the wait to be over an hour long (like other brunch places), but were pleasantly surprised when we were seated in just under 10 minutes. The cafe is small, with less than 12 seats in the entire area, but the restaurant exuded so much warmth and coziness. Service was so friendly. We especially loved the older lady at the counter, who was our main server. She was very sweet and attentive. My fiance and I ordered Erin's Waffle Breakfast and Two Eggs Your Style, while our friend ordered Luba's Omelet. We also got hot chocolate and a chai latte. The waffle was very delicious. I don't know what batter they used or how long they cooked it for, but the waffle was perfectly golden and crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Both the eggs and the omelet were also cooked well. The bacon was crispy, but small, and I especially enjoyed the home fries. This place is a little gem and I cannot wait to go back! Stopped in for breakfast the weekend after Thanksgiving and found now wait which was a pleasant surprise. Had a fruit parfait with super fresh fruit, some granola, and yogurt and it came with a side of bread ( I up-charged for a baguette/but I should have went for the sourdough). Oh my goodness!! This place is absolutely adorable. I was meeting a friend who I hadn't seen in years and we were trying to pick a halfway meeting spot. I did a quick search for cafes in Watertown and Spot popped up. I suggested it, then said "nevermind - let's definitely do Spot! It looks awesome." Her response was Agreed! Just finished salivating over the photos." I got there early and after looking at the menu, texted my husband saying "we have to come here." Unfortunately for me, it was Passover so I couldn't eat anything! Everything looked amazing and I cannot wait to go back and actually try some food. The advantage of *small* Spot cafe on Route 20 in Watertown is that it is a great spot for a "homemade-like" breakfast (presumably the kitchen is only working on a few orders at a time, and is more-or-less doing them they way Mom did at home when you were growing up). The disadvantage of course is that there's often a line outside on the weekends. That said, it's right down the street from where I live, so I can go anytime - on a weekday for example, or off peak on the weekend - and enjoy a great breakfast. The food is always fresh and good, and they even have a small selection of their own baked goods. Nothing particularly fancy about the menu, but I'll trade fresh, homemade goodness over a trendy, over-priced benedict any day. Big fan. read more

Went here this morning with my wife and seven-month old baby. They seated us at two small tables, which would normally seat four people. We ordered our coffee and breakfast, including a breakfast for the baby. There was no line when we arrived, but when a line formed the woman (the owner, I think) told us to give up one of the tables so we were all seated at a very small table. As I mentioned we had already ordered our coffee and our meal. When food arrived there was no room, especially for a grabby baby. We did not enjoy our meal because it was so stressful trying to keep the baby from grabbing everything. Take a look at the pictures to see how small the tables are and imagine dining there with three meals, two hot coffees, and an infant. At the end of the meal, as we stood up to leave the baby looped a mug of coffee into her lap and it went everywhere, including all down her front. Fortunately it was lukewarm and didn't burn her (!!!) but no one from the cafe acknowledged that it had spilled onto the baby or my wife even though it's a very small space and was completely obvious what had happened. It was a few minutes before the woman came back and when she did she said, "whose coffee is this?" as though we all weren't covered in coffee and she didn't know exactly what had happened. We left quickly because we were sopping wet and a total mess. I called later to say how upset I was and she said that "my service is perfect!" and that "it's bad for small businesses to use up two tables" (as though the baby didn't have her own meal, which she did). She scolded me for being a bad mother and said I needed to keep better track of my baby. read more

This morning we tried the Spot Cafe in Watertown for breakfast. Our first impression was that we were in a grandmother's house not only due to the small size, but all of the signs and nicknacks on the walls. It was a comforting feeling that the food will be homemade and good. We waited only a few minutes for a table to open up, and then we were quickly seated and our drink order taken. Two coffees and two grapefruit juices. Upon reading the menu we noticed the $1.85 coffee clearly noted only one refill at that price. I've never seen that before, and I am happy to say that our coffee mugs were filled more than the limit for no additional charges. Thank you! Both of us ordered an omelette. While egg whites or egg beaters were not noted as an option on the menu, our waitress didn't hesitate at the request to build your own omelette. I opted for the veggie without cheese while my friend ordered a la cart. The list of optional cheeses was impressive for such a small "spot" on Main St. Both were served freshly made as we could see the steam and the copious amount of fillings including cheese which was stretched with every fork lift was impressive. Of particular note, the home fried potatoes were golden brown and with the right amount of crispiness. If you have read other reviews of mine, I feel the attention to a perfectly done home fried potato is a sign of pride in serving their food. Most breakfast choices come with the choice of white or whole grain/wheat toast too. While we didn't order it, the french toast on the plate of our neighbor looked deliciously prepared as did the Belgian waffle. I was also in awe of the hot chocolate with what looked to be home made whipped cream and mini chocolate chips on top. Another great sign was the number of patrons that were welcomed by name as well as those picking up breakfast for take out. What a great surprise to find thos little gem in Watertown outside of Boston! We only had breakfast ut the spinach omelet was perfectly prepared (thi k Helen Mirren in "The 100 Foot Journey"). Tea in porcelain teapots and cups Great coffee. Waffle was not vacuous -had a good texture. Sausage was good- would be great to have homemade and charge more. Walked in and ate here for lunch with my brother a few days ago and everything was great! The pastrami sandwich was a bit messy, but it was delicious and little bro said the roast beef was great too. Service was kind and friendly, and the prices are pretty good. I grabbed a chocolate chip cookie for dessert but I think I'll stop by for a coffee cake muffin next time (they looked tasty). Unacceptable service, barely edible food My partner and I opened the doors to a cute deli counter with some nice-looking tables and were invited to sit anywhere we like. We scootched two tables together and looked at the menu in awe of the prices! Within two minutes we were accosted by the waitress, berating us for moving the tables. I offered to move them back and sit somewhere else, but it was apparent that the damage was already done in her eyes. Having been invited to sit anywhere and yelled at for doing so; I wanted to leave. Covid has been hard and small businesses are struggling so I stayed and waited for the food we ordered to be brought out. I thought "hey if they're that rude, then there must be something great in the kitchen". I was bitterly mistaken. We ordered "The Spot Home Fries" thinking that the namesake would indicate quality. The cheese was plastic. The spices were bland. The potatoes were somehow both oily and overdone. My partner, still very uncomfortable with our waitress whose tone turned icy when they sarcastically clipped at us to "enjoy", urged us to leave. What an awesome discovery!! I was calling around different restaurants to find one that didn't use pre-made mix for pancakes (loaded with toxic preservatives). And stumbled upon this place. Not only were the pancakes fresh, they were delicious!!! Super moist and with raspberries!!!! Omg dying. And with real maple syrup which is also hard to find in a small bfast joint. My husband got eggs and the toast was also fresh and homemade. Service was outstanding and quick. Parking lot and got a table right away at 10am on a Sunday. New fave spot! read more

Everything about the Spot Cafe is perfect. You can get breakfast all day or lunch (don't know if lunch is all day), and the food is always delicious. Some of our family faves: the pancake smiley face, chocolate chip pancakes, Belgian waffles, the roasted red pepper soup, the ziti, the mozzarella and tomato sandwich, the tuna sandwich, the croissant and fruit cup, the chai latte. . . uh yeah, we eat here often. Horrible service. Owner (female) does not treat patrons well. My wife and I were made to wait/stand for 5 minutes even though 3 tables were open and owner was servicing other tables. At his point, we weren't upset since owner may be short staffed. But then! After 5 minutes of waiting, a man walked in behind us. Owner saw him, called him by his first name, and immediately seated him at the only available window table, while my wife and I were still standing there! Dumbfounded, I approached the owner and asked what had happened. Owner gave an excuse that non-window tables more comfortable, so she was doing us a favor. I told her she didn't even bother to ask us what we wanted for 5 minutes while we were standing there. My wife then provide firm feedback to owner that this was poor customer service and that she prioritized the man behind us over us. Owner got upset, said "This is the way I do it." Irony of it all is that my wife and I live a few minutes away from the Spot Cafe. If we liked this restaurant, we likely would have returned many times repeatedly. Instead because the owner prioritized her "regular" customer over new customers like us (and then tried to defend her behavior as good), she lost two new regular customers and all our friends.
