    This was our first time here. The decor was interesting but outdated. I could hear the guests full conversation from the table next to ours. The selection of wines was French only. I tried a cocktail and I liked it. The appetizers were good. We had a duck for the main course. I was expecting more out of desserts but overall not bad. The prices were moderate.

    Small French restaurant with good options. I been to the newbury location so wanted to try this one. I prefer the newbury location. Food: I ordered la canard (duck) and it was a bit dry. The braised rib was a bit salty. Recommend the burrata and the dauphinois though! Service: decent Parking: all street and meters and difficult to find so plan ahead Attire: casual to dressy Overall, was a decent restaurant but prefer the newbury location.

    We love making a trip to this wonderful Brookline restaurant! La Voile is a very good and safe option for a small group outing or date night. There is a food option for everyone, and the food is reliably very good. We have never had trouble getting a last-minute reservation, even on weekends. The restaurant is quiet - perfect for having relaxed conversations while dining. They have set up a very cute outdoor dining patio, and we were lucky enough to get an adorable table outside on a beautiful evening! The staff was absolutely amazing, kind, and attentive. We loved the charcuterie board, which featured two cheeses with a hint of truffle (yum) and three delicious meats. The oysters were surprisingly very good, even for Boston standards! The main dishes never disappoint. They are not necessarily "mind-blowing" dishes with unique flavors or ultra creative concoctions, but they are always tasty, French-inspired, and perfectly portioned. Our favorites are the lamb shoulder (with a yummy side of potatoes) and the salmon (always nicely cooked). The main dishes range from $25-37, which is very reasonable for the quality of food and service at this sit-down Brookline staple. We also loved the apple tart and ice cream dessert option - I'm not 100% sure if the apple tart is homemade, but it is good nonetheless. The drink menu is extensive and very good! As a non-alcohol-drinker, I LOVED the fresh-brewed iced tea - delicious! Bon appetit!

    I would think as a foodie, I would know what French food is. Alas, all I have in my mind is a caricature: enormous plates, tiny portions, huge prices. (Disclaimer: I know this is likely a gross misrepresentation, my intent is more comedic than anything.) This doesn't apply here; the portions are satisfying but not gluttonous. I heard about this restaurant and decided to try it, especially with the more-or-less reasonable "Taste of France" prix-fixe menu price. I opted for Le Terrine, Le Confit, the Pastry (and an espresso ordered out-of-pocket). Overall, the food was delicious, approachable, and not pretentious. The restaurant provided olive bread and butter while I waited. The bread was good, but nothing to write home about. Though, the butter was a slice off a stick, and therefore a little hard to spread. Le Terrine was [almost] what an appetizer should be: tasty but designed to whet your appetite for more! The mousse (like a pâté), a lightly dressed salad, and caramelized onions were yummy. The crackers were a little simple, but that seems to be by design. My issue with this dish is that while the ingredients can be assembled into a sandwich of sorts, it's a little rough in this form. Otherwise, the elements of the dish don't really get along with one another. Le Confit was all-around excellent! The duck was flavorful, cooked to perfect slide-off-the-bone tenderness, and the sauce took it to another level. I also appreciate that the sauce is drizzled on the side. This way, the meat doesn't become soggy, and you can choose if/how much to add. The salad was a reprise of that which came with the terrine but without gherkins. The piece of me that likes variety was insignificantly disappointed, and the bit that doesn't like gherkins wasn't complaining. Where it comes to the pasty: this was also delicious. The dough was flaky and light, and the sweetness level was on-point! One thing of note is that trying to eat this with a spoon made the delicate layers separate. Go for a fork and knife to truly enjoy this. The location is small but clean, and the service was very attentive and fast. In terms of value, considering I got three courses, the duck not being a cheap protein, and the location, I'd say you certainly get what you pay for.

    A proper french meal in a building of curious provenance. Was it, as rumored, a dry cleaner eons ago, or an oyster bar whose schooner-glassed models, and sailing ship drawings, and wall-mounted ship's bell, are scattered throughout... Dunno, doesn't matter. The food is well executed, hearty, and delicious. We had the beef bourguignon (yes, yes, i've probably butchered the spelling like a fresh-caught deer), duck breast, rack of lamb. As openers, oysters, escargot, and..... the fish soup. i expected a tomato broth, and was 99% aimed at the onion soup, but for the waiter's strong nudge-- 'of the three soups, this is my favorite' It was an echo of the Nicoise soupe de poisson that I have dreamed of ever since having it 15 years ago- a giant wide bowl of brown simmered flavorful soupe with corvettes of crusty bread sailing, topped with aoili and cheese shreds. Remembrance of things past. And at La Voille? In a more modest and narrow bowl wherein the bread sails but one ship alone. Still-- do get it, enjoy it, and dream and plan of Nice, on a summer day The boeuf bourguignon was great. Tender, sapon, and saporous meat, carrots , potatoes, all as should be. Just a super version of a dish often done. Pastis. with ice and water, diluted and clouded to your choice, at the start. 1-2 ice, 1:3 water, or chacun a son gout A serviceable malbec by the glass A good chocolate mousse. Not mouth breaking, but good. An excellent waitstaff on a slower rainy eve, always there but never too much. Tres cher, not a weekly meal by any measure, but fine classic french dining in brookline, to match anywhere.

    I had this place bookmarked for 2 years! My fiancé and I finally pulled the plug and went for date nite last night. It was frenchtastic! We love French food and la voile delivered. Excellent service, extensive wine list. Oh their cocktail made of champagne were phenomenal! My favorite is the la voile. Super yummy! Overall, food were superb. However, our main dish was a bit salty and the apple upside down pie was a bit strange. Overall, atmosphere was perfect for a romantic evening. We will be back!

    I came here for the first time on New Years Eve. Overall, I had a great meal and our hostess and wait staff were all wonderfully attentive and accommodating. Here are my reviews on the food: La Risotto ($13) Perfectly cooked risotto with a rich and velvety texture from the parmesan cream. I usually don't rave about vegetables, but the artichokes that it came with were delicious! They were nicely roasted and gave the risotto some crunchy texture. La Brandade ($14) This is a must get if you like mashed potatoes and cod. This is essentially a mix of both, topped with a crispy golden brown cheese crust. The filling was smooth, creamy, and perfectly seasoned. All together, it's a delicious combination. Highly recommend trying this unique dish. Le Canard ($24) Well cooked duck breast over sweet potato puree with orange caramel sauce on top. Unfortunately, I think the dish needed another (perhaps salty) element to balance out the sweetness of the dish. The sweet potato and sauce were both on the sweet side so I think it overpowered the duck breast. Le Confit ($24) Perfectly balanced dish with protein, starch, and greens. The duck was tender and flavorful topped with a nice orange glaze. I loved the giant potato gratin that it came with! The potato was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. This place definitely knows their way with potatoes. The dish also came with a generous portion of salad.

    We joined in for some outdoor dining during Dine Out Boston and we loved our Saturday night out. The outdoor dining is on the sidewalk where you have a view of Washington Square and the green line T. The waitstaff worked together to get drinks and food out in a timely manner. All of our appetizers, entrees, and desserts were great! The chicken liver mousse and escargot were my favorite dishes. The duck leg confit was rather small, but the sauce was wonderful.

    We were disappointed by other French restaurants in Boston but La Voile continues to maintain very high standards. The rib eye was absolutely delicious. The staff are always friendly and ambience nice and cosy even on a busy Valentines Day evening. The staff remembered that I mentioned my wife's birthday and added a candle on our dessert which was a lovely touch.

    After many super take out meals we finally ate in person at La Voile. We ate outside Tuesday of last week and had a feast. Dinner started by sharing a charcuterie plate of paté, rillete, cold cuts and cheese. Also something tasting like candied onion. Excellent. Next, I had Malbec, such a smooth red wine. Forgot what hubby had. He was delighted by his chicken dish. I always love their bouef bourguignon. Satiated we left without dessert. You must go there. Food is so terrific, like a Parisienne restaurant. ENJOY!!

    Discovered this gem on Groupon. My partner and I have never had French cuisine before, but we were pleasantly surprised on our weekend trip to Boston. We made a reservation for 8:30 (although they close at 9pm) and they still took us in and gave us exceptional service, and we never felt rushed. On a Friday night, the restaurant was not very full so it was overall a nice experience with great ambiance. The 3 course dinner was well worth the price, and I particularly loved the Wine Flight option. All the food was presented well and tasted great (we weren't huge fans of the Foie Gras Terrine, but perhaps our palettes aren't quite there yet!) my favorite was the mushroom cream truffle soup -- it's a must try. Shout out to our amazing and helpful waiter, Alexander B. We'll be returning to try other menu items the next time we visit Boston!

    La Voile Brookline was an experience. We picked it randomly for our anniversary, wanting something a bit more fancy than usual, but still casual enough for a weeknight. For starters, we got the Le Veloute (creamy mushroom soup), Les Huitres (oyters), and Le Foie Gras Poele (seared foie gras). The soup was the highlight of the starters as well as the whole meal -- creamy, earthy, perfectly seasoned, with a nice dollop of creme fraiche on top. The foie gras was super rich and well-seared, well-accompanied by apple compote, some salad, and crispy bread. The oysters, 6 of them, were OK - not the best we've ever had, though the sauce was nice. The main dishes rocked! We ordered La Sole Meuniere (sole) and Le Filet de Boeuf (beef sirloin). The sole came with capers and butter and a thick half lemon, as well as a side of wild rice. The beef came with haricots verts (string beans) with a few roasted tomatoes on top as well as gratin dauphinois (potato au gratin). All excellent! The meat and fish quality were extraordinary. The sole even had roe in it! The potato au gratin was creamy, cheesy, nicely crisped on top -- totally worth ordering as an extra side regardless of which main dish you decide to go for. Not to forget desserts, we got three to try: La Creme Brulee (creme brulee), La Mousse au Chocolat (chocolate mousse), and Le Millefeuille (multi-layered pastry with custard). Of these, the creme brulee was the absolute winner. The chocolate mousse was a bit too sweet for us, albeit the texture was on point. The millefeuille was a bit of a disappointment especially if you're used to the light texture of the Lady M's version, which can be considered the paragon of this particular dessert category. Our waiter, Alexander, was sweet and relaxed. He felt like someone who enjoyed life and good food. In summary, the highlights for us were: 1) mushroom soup 2) beef dish 3) potato au gratin 4) creme brulee We can't wait to be back at La Voile Brookline!

During my last visit, I tried the boneless short ribs Bourguignon, I felt like it was a bit dry. I loved the potato croquette that came with the dish though, creamy on the inside with a crispy exterior. The meat did not fall off and melt, maybe it was just that one day. I will stick to ordering duck as my entree as it has never failed us and the cook and flavors are also supreme. Creme brulee is always great to end the meal! Service is alway is great, every server we've had were always attentive. We were given free champagne one year when we told them it was our anniversary too! If there is one app that you need to order its the chorizo croquettas, OMG. They are like little small drops of heaven and there are only 3 so if you plan to share I would recommend ordering more than just one. For dessert, we ordered an Espresso Martini. The individual tarts (lemon, raspberry, etc.) and cakes are beautifully designed and are appropriately sweet. The tart crusts were legit. I'll miss coming here for pastries/desserts. This was a Saturday before a big snow storm the following day. I think due to this, the restaurant wasn't as busy as usual. We ended up being seated in the back room all to ourselves. It was a very nice room that had about 4 tables. Stephanie, our server was an absolute delight! Turns out she works for the hotel as well and she's the one I spoke with when we booked the room. She opened our Beaujolais for us and brought some wine glasses. She kept the bottle chilled in the fridge for us. She went over some of the specials being prepared that night and was able to make some nice recommendations. My girlfriend ended up with the special seafood soup special with a lobster stock as a base. I ordered the escargot. Both were absolutely fantastic. She kept our bread basket filled with wonderful fresh warm bread to soak up all the goodness of the soup and escargot. I got inspired by watching youtube to make a jambon buerre sandwich - supposedly a popular quick sandwich for Parisians. The sandwich is half a baguette with butter and French bistro ham. I tried searching all over for the French bistro ham with no luck. The only options were online sources with expensive shipping and/or expensive minimum order sizes. Somehow I stumbled upon MA-France nearby in Arlington and they sell jambon-buerre sandwiches. It's a small shop that sells sandwiches, pastries, and a small offering of French food products. Lots of pastries and baked goods like quiche, tarts, cookies, croissants, etc. The cheese offerings were very limited and basic. I can imagine that the cheeses that they sell are the same types and brands that they use for making sandwiches. For example, they sell President brand Brie - that you can also buy at Costco and market basket. Disappointing, but understandable because they can't afford to buy more variety and more expensive offerings without a big enough client base to buy those cheeses before they go bad. Getting back to the sandwich - it was half a baguette with some thick slices of butter and two pieces of French bistro ham. The bread was kind of dense and the crust was more chewy than crispy. I was disappointed that they didn't bother to spread the butter, but if they're not selling enough sandwiches then they're probably keeping the butter in the refrigerator - making it too difficult to spread. When I got home I fixed up the sandwich to my liking. Overall, the sandwich was okay, but not good enough to make me want to go back. At least I was able to solve my hunger for the jambon buerre sandwich.

I can't tell you it was in it, but it was absolutely delicious. As was the French onion soup one of the best broths I've ever tasted. And then I have the duck liver mousse & three large toasts and greenery with pickled onions and three little soft dried apricots. It was so delicious. And for my main course I had the duck confit served over creamy sweet potatoes with a side of spicy kimchi and a sausage. Oh my gosh, was that good!! My meal was absolutely outstanding from start to finish. I was in heaven. My partner had the Moroccan chicken with some dried black olives, mixed cooked greens and long carrot ribbons very well cooked, but unfortunately, it was extremely salty. It needed some sweet potato something to kind of balance all that salt. So she didn't enjoy hers as much as I did mine.
