Cute little ice cream shop downtown. Right on the corner of the street. They only do a walk up window to order, no going inside. One kid working inside. We were the only customer on a cold Friday night but I could see them get busy during the summer. The ice cream was great. They even sell soup to take home and heat up yourself. When we went, there was a line of a few confused patrons, all of whom were debating whether the "closed" sign was accurate, because the folks at the counter had been waiting a few minutes. It turns out that the whole show was being run by one young woman, and so she was prepping full orders by herself and also handling the register. The ice cream itself is Hershey, not homemade, which to me just means I can get this same experience in a dozen other places. Overall not a place I'll remember, but it was still ice cream! read more

Excellent shake in Lancaster. I was debating with myself about a shake vs dish and I watched the group of 4 before us receive 3 shakes and 1 dish. I asked how the shakes were and a gal said, "The best." So my chocolate extreme shake was great! Tasted friend's banana pudding shake and yum! Other friend had a cappuccino blast shake. Picture perfect small establishment with the creamiest, most delicious ice cream. Is there a bad ice cream store -- ha Haa I have never found one. The service here was polite and efficient. A little patio is located around the corner to sit and enjoy your treats! No bathrooms available at this tiny neighborhood business. There is a restroom in a laundromat next door to the patio we were told. That emergency bathroom will not win a beauty award and perhaps could win the most homely and marginally scary BR award. This is an incredibly small space to pack in so much ice cream, coffee, and sandwiches. The close quarters truly makes three a crowd, but despite the lack of space, S&G has a nice neighborhood vibe, a decent menu, and a super friendly staff. On my first stop here, I was disappointed to see the selection was only Hershey's ice cream products, which you can find in any store around here, but for a quick and cheap cone, I couldn't really complain. They keep a decent variety on hand and rotate flavors out so even the regulars can't get that tired of the selection. I highly recommend the ice cream floats - your choice of Reading Soda (yum!) with two scoops of ice cream. If you can, get the Blueberry Birch or Black Cherry. Beware the brain freeze. It's not a myth. My latest visit was on National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day. I haven't seen that many people waiting in line for ice cream since Carmen & David's closed up shop downtown! Today, I stopped in for their Lancaster City Restaurant Week deal and had the Mary Had A Little Lamb sandwich, Thai Curry Lentil soup, chips and a scoop of Honey Roasted Peanut Butter ice cream. The sandwich is a panini on ciabatta with ham, apples, carmelized onions, cooper sharp cheddar, and stone ground mustard. It is excellent. The flavirs are perfectly balanced and the panini was perfectly pressed. The soup was warming, satisfying, a d had the right amount if heat. Splits & Giggles has been a constant place for me. I went there with my F&M host when I was in High School, my future Sorority Big during freshman year, and so many times since with my friends. When David, the owner is there he is always professional, funny, and serves with a smile. He plays great music inside! The other staff there are also always friendly. My favorite ice cream flavors here are Heavenly Hazelnut and Strawberry Cheesecake. Heavenly Hazelnut and a group of other favorites are always there but flavors like Strawberry Cheesecake are on rotation. It's fine though because every time I go there I am satisfied! If you're on the go, definitely get a milkshake!! They're so decadent and perfect to take in your car or on a walk with minimal mess. Besides ice cream, Splits & Giggles also has amazing sandwiches and some great soups! The Hail Mary sandwich is a delicious vegetarian option and Mary Tyler Moore is my go-to sandwich with meat! All sandwiches are always perfectly made, panini-grilled, and served with Maui onion chips. The inside wall art and seating areas are clean and super cute! When it's warm, the seating area outside is a great option!! At night there is soft lighting and a really nice atmosphere. All of the pricing is, in my opinion, reasonable and good. Stopped in this small ice cream shop while I was visiting back east last year. I keep remembering how good it was so I decided to finally write a review on here! I had the candy bar overload ice cream on a waffle cone - it was fantastic! The waffle cone was fresh and crispy and just perfect..and they didn't charge more to upgrade to the waffle cone! The ice cream also tasted better than most. The guy who was working told me something about how Hershey's puts less air in their ice cream when they make it. It was nice to see someone knowledgeable and excited about their job! It was also super cheap.. I think I remember for my 2 scoops of ice cream in a waffle cone it was about $3? They had a pretty decent looking soup/sandwich menu too. I love peanut butter so the Presley panini sounds simply amazing. As an out of towner, I almost walked out when I saw that the ice cream was simply Hershey's. I'm glad I decided to stick around. The ice cream is not the best in town (the only other ice cream I tried was Jenny's, but I did prefer this to Splits & Giggles), and it's a small town, so it's easy enough to get to the other options. However, the prices are very reasonable, (especially for an out of towner from D.C.). When I was told my small ice cream was $2.50, I stood there in silence, just trying to process the fact that you can buy things for $2. Also, the space is quite charming, and I love the story behind it (three couples joined forces to buy the shop and keep it running). Even though the ice cream isn't technically "local," Splits & Giggles is where you'll find locals, so it's worth it to at least check out if you're not an ice cream snob like I almost was. I didn't try any of the food items as I had other places on my list to try, but if I ever find myself back in Lancaster, I'd be willing to have one of my meals here. read more
