She explained every step of my haircut and why it is unique to MY curls. For Tania, curly haircuts are not one size fits all, and this was evident throughout my appointment. She completely transformed not only my hair shape, but my confidence, for the better. I'm not exaggerating when I say each of my curls were carefully considered while Tania was cutting. If you are looking for a curly haircut in Chicago, please consider Lincoln Park Hair Salon! This was my first curly haircut, with both a dry cut and a wet cut, and I cannot imagine going back to a regular haircut that doesn't take into consideration my curl shape, my hair type, and my face shape, etc. I'm beyond satisfied!

I had a wonderful experience with Ashley at Salon Aster…read more My regular stylist was ill so I was in desperate need of a root touch-up and a cut before embarking on 3 weeks of travel. Ashley was a dream! She's very thoughtful, and truly listened to what I needed. While she's a reserved young woman, don't let her quiet demeanor fool you! She's fierce when it comes to providing amazing service. My only quibble, and this has nothing to do with Ashley, is that the salon was so busy I was pretty much left to my own devices before Ashley came in for the day. While I don't expect champagne and flowers (though, hey, wouldn't knock 'em!), it would have been nice to have been at least offered a glass of water!

I saw that they were fairly new from not having a lot of yelp reviews but the reviews they did have were all stellar so, I knew I was in good hands. Booking the appointment is fairly easy. You can call/email but the easiest way is doing it online. I love the online format it was easy and quick to do. I booked about a week in advance and be warned that this place is small so it gets booked up very quick. They also don't ask you for any payment information on the website which, I found nice. I ended up booking a 1:15 slot for Wednesday. The weekends are usually booked from what I saw so, if you want to get your hair done on those days make sure to book way earlier. The locations is super close to the brown! Literally a block away, so convenient! There's also a starbucks across the street so, get a coffee and wait for your hair to get done. I was 15 minutes late to my appointment and although I tried calling to warn no one picked up. It ended up being fine because I only waited about 5 minutes before I got into the chair and Rose asked what I wanted and proceeded to start matching me to a color and put hair dye on me. I only wanted my roots done and Rose color matched my hair EXACTLY. It's crazy because it was my first time coming here and usually when I go to a new place to get my hair done the process takes over 2 hours because sometimes the dye doesn't take to my hair or there's a visible break from where they dyed it and they have to re-do it. With Rose is was perfect and all done in less than a hour and a half! While I was waiting the 35ish minutes for the dye to set in I was offered water, rosé, wine, and beer. It was definitely a nice touch to sitting there. Rose was also a pleasure to talk to and gave me some great tips on how to manage my hair! I usually find at other places that it's awkward silence or awkward small conversations but Rose was super friendly and very social. Her blowout was also amazing my hair was so sleek and straight. The space is quite small but they really maximize it. It's very minimalistic but with a rustic/classic kind of vibe. I loved the throw pillows in their mini seat area and how they have wood flooring. The shampoo they also use is very summery/beachy. It smells like a watermelon jolly rancher and I still smell hints of it in my hair! I usually dye my hair when I'm in New York because I've been going to the same stylist for years but now I'm happy to have a place in Chicago to go to if I need a quick touch up.

On Monday night, I joined two of my friends at Rowi Salon for a girls night out. It was such a fun…read moreexperience! We'd been wanting to do something a bit different than the usual dinner/drinks or mani/pedis. This was the perfect night out! It was so refreshing to get out and do something fun and different. Whitney worked with each of us to teach us some hairstyles we could replicate at home. In my case, it was a few simple casual updos that I could use to mix up my typical French twist routine. She showed me numerous styles to choose from and helped me choose the most practical ones suited to my needs/abilities. She was super patient with me and not only showed me each style step by step, but also walked me through how to do it on my own so I could try it and have an easier time doing it again at home. She then ended the session with my favorite style so I could leave with that one. Rose then allowed me to choose what I wanted to focus on for make-up. I opted to learn how to do smoky eyes, which I've been wanting to learn for a long time but had previously seemed too complicated for me. Rose simplified the process and broke it down step by step for me, giving me options and alternatives based on the eye shadows and brushes that I already own. (I love that there wasn't a sales pitch like when you get make-overs at department stores! She helped me work with what I already have.) I'm really ignorant when it comes to hair and make-up, but Whitney and Rose not only made me feel comfortable but also simplified everything so that I have actually been able to replicate at home what they taught me almost as well as they did them! I would highly recommend Rowi Salon for a fun girls night out! It would also be great for a girls' birthday party (my 13-year-old step-daughter and her friends would LOVE this!). They said they travel, too, and have done bachelorette pre-parties in clients' homes to get everyone all dolled up before going out--such a fun idea!
