Spitz was not entirely what I was expecting, and maybe that frames this review a bit. I assumed that I would enter through the door to be greeted by the intoxicating aroma of chicken or lamb roasting and strategically donned upon a vertical rotisserie spit (hence the name). I expected to be handed a warm shawarma, heavy on the meat, with veggies adorned sparsely on top, as to not disturb the star of the show. What I received was the healthiest version of a middle eastern style wrap imaginable. It was bursting at the seams, but the vegetables were clearly to blame. They were the star of the show, and even though I ordered the mixed meat wrap, I struggled to find any substantial doner lamb or chicken inside to provide balance. I was adrift in a sea of veggies and I was disappointed. Was the sandwich delicious? Yes, but this resulted from the fresh array of toppings and not secondary to the meat, which was left firmly in the back seat. Now, some will say that I can pay more for double meat, but I don't feel I should ever have to pay extra to be able to taste what was supposed to be provided at regular price. I think health conscious individuals who love veggies with a small sample of meat will love this place. I was looking for something on par with a traditional shawarma experience and I left with, probably unjustified, dissatisfaction. read more

I stopped by splitz this afternoon for lunch between work meetings while I was in the area. Good lunch spot that was fast, simple, and clean. Food: I ordered the Mediterranean wrap with chicken shawarma. It was very tasty and a great portion of food! Atmosphere: very relaxed and artsy. My table was clean although I was a little confused as to where to order my food. I wasn't sure if we were supposed to be seated or if there was a designated area where we order. You have to order at the bar and grab a number. It took me a few moments to figure it out. The music is also great, good spot to break up the day. Service: quick and friendly, I was in and out in 30 minutes. Great timing for a quick lunch. I'll be back next time I'm in the area. A slow day at the office last week meant time to browse Yelp for new places to try. Shh! Do not tell the boss! I stumbled upon reviews for Spitz and I found myself dreaming of the street cart fries I saw in people's photos. Yesterday the husband and I headed over for lunch and you should soon as well. Great location over in NE Minneapolis. You grab a menu at the door and order at the counter. The gentleman working there yesterday (April 9th) gave the best customer service I have received in some time. He was very willing to answer questions but having stalked the menu for several days I had my order memorized. They give you a number and bring your food out to you. Here it goes: - street cart fries: large order of perfectly crispy fries that never went soggy with the of the toppings. they were smothered in feta cheese, banana peppers, olives and a cause that is to die for. plenty to share with others. - street cart doner: I got mine with the lamb/beef combo. A light, slightly toasted wrap that was flaky (a bit messy) yet delicious. Also filled with peppers, onions and tomatoes. Pretty good size. I was only able to finish half of it as I just could not break away from those fries. Husband had a beer (not sure what kind) and I had some of their free strawberry infused water that is set up in 2 locations. Do I recommend? Absolutely! It was a 30 minute drive for us so we will will not go a lot but I encourage you all to check them out! read more

Got the vegan falafel wrap and sat outside. Great falafel, super large portion sizes - I could probably eat the entire wrap and be super full, I chose to eat half and eat the rest after I got home. Yum. I am so glad that Spitz decided to open their first Midwest location in NE Minneapolis. We showed up at about 5:20 on a Tuesday and the place was just starting to have people trickle in. Grab a menu by the front door and order at the bar (where you are faced with the temptation of their vats of sangria). The lady who took our order was very helpful answering questions and giving recommendations (get a wrap instead of a sandwich, get the regular fries over the sweet potato). The water that is provided was infused with basil and strawberry on the day that we went, which really enhanced the overall assessment of this restaurant (so 6 stars instead of 5 because everything was great). The beef and lamb street car doner that I ordered was fantastic, my husband got the Mediterranean wrap with the same meat and we both preferred mine slightly more. The street car fries were also a huge hit, it was hard trying to control myself so that I didn't eat more than my fair share. The other great thing is that the wrap makes a really good leftover and I've been having a hard time keeping myself away from it so that I have something for lunch today. I was concerned that the wrap would get soggy, but the way it was wrapped prevented that. One review mentioned that the culture didn't seem kid-friendly, but I would have no problem bringing kids here. One thing that I thought was weird was that their HH deal was $2 off their french fries, but you get less fries for the price. I eat like 80% vegan and when I travel I like to visit places that not only serve vegan food but offere vegan versions of things I can't get at home. There are doner options in Seattle but none of them offer a vegan version so when I found Spitz, I was on it. The space itself was airy, full of light, and color. The Prince mural on the wall was on point. Spitz says it can make a vegan version of anything on the menu so based on the suggestion of the bartender I get their most popular doner, the Street Car Doner, and ask for it vegan. I asked about what mocktails were available and the bartender told me the only one that could be made without alcohol and would still be palatable would be the Black(Berry) Sabbath, so I order one. The drink was super refreshing with a ton of blackberries and mint. I was a fan. My food order came out shortly after and there was feta on the salad and tzatziki on the donor. Not a big deal. I let the bartender know and she apologizes and gets a new one made post haste. Round two: my food comes out and I am ready to dig in! Oh boy, this doner is dry as shit. Spitz's idea of making a vegan version is removing the tzatziki but not replacing it with hummus or a vegan tzatziki. All you are left with is falafel, cabbage, and the wrap. I might as well be eating sandpaper. I ask for a box for the last half of the donor and the bill. I see that I was charged $10 for the mocktail. The same exact price for the alcoholic version. I ask the bartender, "I'm getting charged $10 for a mocktail?" and she said, "Yeah...". Hmmm. Should I have asked how much it would be? Sure. But the bartender could have let me know even sans alcohol the drink would be full price. Like, seriously, shouldn't a few bucks been knocked off? I'm complaining a lot about the food and pricing but I will say the service was great. The bartender checked in frequently and was very apologetic about the non vegan donor coming out first. Another employee even checked in on me too. I just wish they would step up their game when it came to making a vegan donor and not charge $10 for a mocktail. read more

I ate here a few hours ago, and I'm still full! The portions are definitely generous. I went with a group of six people for a quick lunch. A few of my dining mates ordered food from the bartender, so the rest of my group did as well. Three of us got sangria, and three of us got beer. We were all happy with our choices. My mom got the orange sangria. It was so refreshing! The lavender and pear sangria was also delicious. That one was was more calming than refreshing. Both were excellent. The beer crew loved the selection available. Spitz offers a good selection of local brews and those you cannot find at liquor stores. The food was very tasty and fresh. Two of us got the spicy doner. The spice level was just right- no additional Sriracha needed! The street cart doner was very fresh- Garlic aioli, fried lavash chips, romaine, cabbage, tomato, onion, green pepper, cucumber, and tzatzik made for a good party in my mouth. The Berliner tasted sweeter than that street cart doner. The beef and lamb made for an excellent meat selection. It was so juicy! We shared the street cart fries. They were a huge hit. I'm taking off one star, because ordering was a little confusing. There was a rush and my group's order was taken at different times. You guys, I decided to download Pokemon Go and it took me to Spitz. Can we just talk about how I caught my 3839292th weedle in front of this place? Anywho, Spitz has been getting a ton of attention lately so I thought I would see what all the hype was about. It's located in the former location of Wilde Roast and the decor and ambience is really funky and cool. It's a super laid back place with table games like Jenga and Never Have I Ever. You seat yourself and once you're ready to order you can go up to the bar/register. I was there during Happy hour so the prices were slightly cheaper for the apps. I was there with my fellow Pokemasters (ok, I will stop) so the three of us shared a bunch of stuff. Here's the low down on the bites we tried: Beef/lamb Donerito...? Honestly I am not even sure if this is what it's called and I'm too lazy to exit this app to look up the menu to verify but it's like a taquito and doner wrap love child. This was probably my favorite. It had great texture (crispy and chewy) and awesome flavor. Definitely a lot going on with this appetizer but loved how everything came together. Street cart fries: really good first bites but got to be crazy messy after a couple minutes. The fries are excellent but there was possibly too much going on on top with all the fixings. Berlin fries: the red sauce added an extra zest to sweet potato and seasoned fries mix but got to be a bit much after everything got all soggy. Street Cart doner: we got a chicken wrap and it was what you would expect a doner wrap to taste like. I was hoping it would change my life...but it was another wrap to me. Spicy doner: we got beef/lamb and I loved this. It was so spicy and flavorful. I definitely preferred this over the chicken. Seasoned fries: YEAH, we got three different orders of fries. SO WUT. These fries were the best part of the meal. Perfectly fried, awesomely seasoned, and the bomb.com with garlic aioli. Overall, I'd say the experience was enjoyable... I'm so happy/sad this place just opened up around the corner from my fitness studio! Spitz features fast-casual Mediterranean street food right in Northeast. Expect great gyro meat and both fresh and deep fried fare. The decor is so freaking fun - they're embracing the whole street cart vibe with street art too. Check the photos - who doesn't want to slob some kabob meat amongst a graffiti shrine of Prince and Leo as Gatsby? Heaven. (Pretend I didn't just say "slob some kabob".) And service has gone above and beyond both times I've been here. I love both their Street Cart Döner and Berliner Döner (I think the biggest difference is the sauce). The wrap is thin yet holds its own and doesn't get soggy. The meat is flavorful, tender, and juicy; the beef/lamb meat is the best, in my opinion. I love their loaded fries too - especially since you're able to get a mix of both seasoned fries + sweet potato waffle fries! I wasn't a huge fan of the doquitos, but it was a fun fusion to try. Quality of the food is GREAT! I went with my sister on a Saturday night and it was kinda busy, but not overwhelmingly so... which I greatly appreciated! I ordered the Street Car Fries with "The Works" and it was AMAZING the flavor was so good and the portion size was perfect. I also had the option to mix regular and sweet potato fries which was an added bonus. We also ordered the Fried Pita Strips with Hummus which was very tasty, we just wish there had been more hummus as they only give you a little dollop. I went to spitz a couple of weeks ago. As I saw on yelp, they have a good rating and the pictures look so appetizing. So I was like why not let's try it! I was craving for a Mediterranean cuisine. I did not feel like eating there because I was too tired and I just want to have it to go. I parked in their private lot, but don't worry there are a lot of street parking nearby I ordered their street cart doner and fries. Their street cart doner is a meh. Something is wrong like it does not taste good, pretty dry and the wrap was pretty tough. However, the fries is so good! I love how they put a lot of toppings in their fries. The decor is pretty hype, the place seems so chill, they have a lot of games (board games) and beer on tap! I think If I am going back to this place i will get the fries, beer and played some board games. read more
