I always enjoy myself in the concourse Spirit flies out of but the Pittsburgh airport is pretty small so you can literally enjoy every concourse there and not have to worry about missing your flight as there is only one terminal. I've flown with Spirit a lot over the years and I've never really had a bad experience, but the seats no matter where you sit suck if your 6' tall or more unless you get a big seat up front which I've flown on a lot but now they are always sold out before you book a flight it seems. I purchased an emergency exit seat for this flight because they have great leg room but the seats are so narrow due to those stupid metal spacers in between the seats that are in a fixed position. The flight attendants were average at best in the friendliness department but I have flown to several destinations where they were some of the best. Th pilots were nice and friendly. I've flown to EWR out of PIT several times with Spirit and it's usually problem free but this particular flight was delayed for one hour which pissed me off due to it being a late flight already and I had plans in NJ. It was probably due to that drone bs. There was a little turbulence but nothing too bad. It's normal on this route it seems. I sat in an aisle seat and the middle seat was empty and a very nice lady was sitting by the window who I chatted with for a little bit. All-in-all the experience was decent . Was quite pleased to have a separate line specific for our destination to check luggage. Arrived at 11:30 & bags were checked by 11:45. So we met the 12:30 pm deadline for checking luggage. Realized the bag checker kept our boarding passes after we were in the TSA lane. Had to go back to the counter. Had a quick lunch so we were ready to board at 1:15 pm. Arrived at Gate 33 at 1:00 pm to be moved to Gate 35. The plane had already landed from previous flight. Then nobody deplaned ... then it was like clowns getting out of a VW @ a circus .... and more waiting .... No explanation or apology for delay. Even an apology for the delay as we sanitize the plane for your flight would have be appreciated. Then the flight online was diverted to Kansas City, MO. Finally boarding at 2:34 pm. Patiently awaiting the stewardess' review of emergency procedures. Oh wait ... we will be stopping in Kansas City for more fuel ... thank God we don't have a connecting flight. Can I give 0 stars? We booked a nonstop flight to Vegas and I was hesitant to use them due to the bad experiences you hear about. But nonstop is nonstop.... A week later they cancelled that flight and rebooked us with a layover in LA and a total travel time of 22 hours?! That wasn't possible for us as I have limited vacation time (that I didn't want to spend in an airport.). We can't get a refund, we can't transfer the $400 voucher and it expires in January. Is it right to complain about a discount airlines... I knew what to expect when we booked with spirit. I knew we would be giving up the creature comforts of a larger carrier but the biggest issue we had was the service. We checked in and our flight was listed everywhere as on schedule. My wife even had the app. and everything was on-schedule. Only after 45 minutes before our boarding time were we informed at the gate by the operator that we were gonna be delayed 2 hours. No updates on the app, not even the electronic board at the gates said anything about a delay. After another 30 minutes the same desk operator said we would be delayed another 90 minutes because they were missing one of their flight attendants. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when booking with the cheapest airline. The customer service and huge lack of correct information was the worst part. I felt bad for the desk operator because she had to keep giving us the bad news time and time again to a big angry mob, but she handled it pretty well I suppose since all the issues were out of her control. On the way to our destination, we were delayed six hours due to the planes were not maintenance but that means as we left we were delayed three times. It's now 2:30 in the morning. We were supposed to leave at 6:30pm same reason plans about maintenance they get them serviced by outside source too much to handle now we're walking to another plane. I had my children basically kidnapped by their father, so this is a tough time for me. As you can see, I travel a lot. Often with my minor children because they are not old enough to travel alone and I work in the travel industry. When my children's father refused to end visitation, I had to "modify" my flight. It was fast approaching and I had no way of knowing if my children would be returned in time. They weren't so I called customer service. CS was extremely reluctant to help and almost refused to help until I asked for management. That's when they were somehow able to modify just the flights for the children. CS was not gonna refund any of the money I spent for the 4 tickets now that there is only 1 ticket. So, I complained some more because I have to be back in Vegas with my lawyer within a week. CS OFFERED me a $150 credit and told ME that I have to use it by Nov 2022. I accepted the offer, made my flight out of Vegas, and went back to work. Now, a week later, I needed to book another flight. I go to book the flight online and it's a total of $115. I got all my normal discounts, used my points, picked my seat, added my bags, etc. Then at checkout, the site tells me that the credit has a misspelled name or incorrect name. I call CS again and they tell me the credit is in the children's names and they can't fix the names on the credit but they can book me a flight using the credit. I obviously refused that offer because CS put a $150 credit in a 9-year-old and two 12-year-olds' names. 3 names on one credit. I asked them politely to just change the names. I am the one who booked the original flight, I didn't cancel, I modified it and was told that I had to use it by November 2022. They are minors incapable of booking a reservation or flying unaccompanied in the first place. The rep "Karen" refused to help or at least understand. I asked for her escalations team and she said: "They would say the same thing I am telling you, but ok, I'll transfer you." The nerve and the disrespect during this tough time. 0 empathy and instead a nasty attitude. Escalations refused to cancel the mistake, (he admitted that it was a mistake to put the credit in the children's names), and refused to reissue the credit in my name. In fact, he said, "It's impossible". Then he offers to book a flight using the credit. Fine!!!!! I replied: "One way, Sunday 09/04, 4 hours 7 am non-stop flight, Seat 8F, shortcut boarding, carry-on, checked bag, and my dog. I'm not paying a dime because of CS's mistakes" He stated again and I quote: "That's impossible". At this point, I'm livid and I gave him a piece of my mind. He told me to file a complaint and I replied that I would. I am offended because I didn't think a company of this size that makes this amount of money would be this stuck over $150. Given the amount of money and time I have spent trying to fix this and you still have your panties up in a bunch over $150! I'm letting it go because I HAVE to book a flight. How much did the company sell for again? It's a joke that I even have to fight this hard and no one will help or try to help make this right. I told by the clerk at the desk that we could not board because we did not generate our boarding pass online and it was too late to do it at the desk. The absolute worst airline I have ever flown. I gave my card to a friend to arrange a 5 day trip for four of us in Orlando. I knew little of Spirit and didn't cate at the time. The flight left Pittsburgh 5 hours late and that didn't faze me at all. Hearing comments I found out this was typical with Spirit but I kept positive. The plane landed fine and I went to luggage pick up. I wouldn't see my suitcase for 4 weeks. There is no human being to talk to. The Spirit luggage office has a haphazard schedule. I spent 4 hours with someone who showed up and was finally told it would show up 10 am the next morning. That evenings plans were a loss as were our plans to be at Universal early in the morning. After waiting 4 hours in the claim area I was told they had no idea where the suitcase was. I had to buy emergency clothes and toiletries. I had bought all new clothes for the trip. All I got was an email on how to put in a claim. Two weeks after getting home I get a phone call from FedEx in ATLANTA. My suitcase showed up with no tags or instructions. Thank God they saw the personal info tag I had on the suitcase. I was told I would have the suitcase in 1-2 days. A week later I called the FedEx depot in Atlanta and was told they had no idea where my suitcase went. A week after that it showed up on the front porch with all the contents a mess with god only knows what. I've had suitcases go to different airports before but it was always professionally handled. They suck you in with low advertised fares. Then they charge you $40 to check a bag one way so on a round trip flight that's an additional $80. After that they charge you anywhere from $20 to $30 to pick your seat so that adds another $60 to your airfare. Drinks on the plane they charge for and even carry on luggage they charge for so by the time your value airline ticket is purchased you could probably fly a larger airline at a less rate. I had trouble coming back from Orlando the plane was canceled once delayed once and gate changes three times for one flight I sat in the airport from 12:00 p.m. and finally took off at 7:30 p.m. legroom and seat room is very sparse because there are three seats on each side of the aisle. I was uncertain about booking my flight after reading all the bad reviews online, but I could not pass up the price. Other airlines were charging 500-800$ for a round trip flight from east to west coast. With Spirit, it was $150 per person, round-trip, non-stop! My wife and I booked 3 weeks in advance, boarded and flew with no delays, and made it back home without delays. The trip followed our original itinerary perfectly. The seats in the back of the plane are small and cramped, I'm about 5'10" and my knees were touching the seat in front of me, but you get what you pay for. I have not had the best experience with this airline. I ignored all of the not so nice things that travelers experienced in the past because I wanted to have my own perspective as it related to flying Spirit. I booked a flight home to New Orleans that was supposed to leave 2 something in the afternoon. My flight was delayed by 4hrs. We ended up leaving a little before 7pm which I thought was fine. But the nightmare worsened when I made to my connecting city (Orlando). Once I arrived I had very little time to make my flight and ended up getting to the gate and the team did not let me on expressing that I was too late. I tried circumventing the process by trying to get an alternate flight out but it was a no-go. I got to Spirit's customer service area and other customers were already irritated with the same experience as myself so I already knew that I was in for an even longer evening at that point. The customer service reps were not empathetic at all about our circumstances and provided us with a comp room and a ticket for the next day. For myself, my flight was scheduled to leave out the next day at 5pm which pretty much took up my entire weekend. I asked the rep was there anything that she could do and she no. So I was put in a position where I had to spend an additional $200 with American Airlines in order to go home early the next day. Based upon my personal experience, I will not fly with Spirit Airlines again. I will pay for a more expensive flight with another airline that's going to the same place, at the same time, on the same day before flying Spirit. read more

First time flying spirit and I've heard nothing but bad things (from people who don't read up on "budget airlines") I was so stoked to see I could from round trip for around 110 a person DIRECTLY from Pittsburgh to La and back! I knew way befor hand what I was getting into. Tight seats, free small carry on "personal item" not able to adjust the seat, paying for every single thing drinks water so on. I bought drinks and snacks before I boarded and I knew to pack light in my perfect little book bag. Also I checked in on the app and got the boarding passes there so yes all I did was pay for my ticket and that's it! I don't see why everyone gets so mad just read up on it and you wouldn't be mad if you knew what your getting into! I can admit it was tight but it was no where near as bad as I expected! We just dealt with the rudest person at the front counter. We were trying to check in early at Pittsburgh airport when we were told to come back later. We were 3 1/2 hours early prior to departure. And it seems as you can only check in 3 hours early. The problem wasn't coming back later, it's the way she said it. We seem to have disturb her in the middle of her texting. On our first flight the seats were very uncomfortable and didn't recline. I am a frequent flyer on other airlines and we thought we would try spirit for the 1st time to save some money. Well what a mistake. I won't be back. They charge for everything the only thing that is free is the toilet and for how long I don't know. After you pay for your seats and pay for your baggage you don't seem to save a whole lot. In the future I think we'll stick with AA, DELTA, UNITED or SOUTHWEST AIRLINES. read more

I would give 0 stars if it was an option. This airline is a disaster! The tickets may be cheaper but in my experience I ended up paying more than if I had just flown with Delta. Basically my flight was delayed because they overbooked and had to find volunteers to take another flight. Then they had to taxi for 10 minutes after leaving the gate because they over filled the plane and had to reduce fuel weight. I know this because the pilot announced it! Then when we arrived they could not unboard for 30 minutes the plane because they could not connect the bridge. Needless to say I missed my connecting flight and the next flight was not until the next day. They would not compensate me the $130 for a hotel so I ended up not only taking 12 hours longer to reach my destination, but also paid more when you consider the hotel than if I had just booked with Delta. Long story, here goes, but in short fashion. Had a 50-min. delay (ok, it happens) for original take-off. Sat on plane for a long time, had to disembark with all items in the overhead. Why? Because it got to 85 degrees F., and the employees said we had to go back into the airport. Reason given for the delay: NO PILOTS!! They would let us know when a pilot showed up. Um, what???? A co-pilot showed up, so we were allowed to return to the jet. BUT, BUT, we still needed a captain to be present to fly the jet. So there was an orchestra but no conductor!! We waited and waited. A captain did finally arrive, the temperature was back under FAA standards of 85 degrees -- and we finally took off. Instead of arriving home when planned, we finally got home 2 1/2 hours later than planned ---- and went to bed at 3:05 am. The elderly, people that needed assistance, and crying babies all had it really bad. My suggestion: DON'T use this airline!!! Use another (or walk!). read more

The airline is unpredictable. Typically with only one flight per day to a particular destination from Latrobe, Pa, you are screwed if they cancel your flight. It's happened to me twice! And no reason given for the cancellation. Flight is delayed, because of an air conditioning issue. Yet, we can feel air coming out of the plane, not sure if something else is wrong with the plane, but we have somewhere to be.
