Avoid Checking Bags - AA Will Break Them and Deny Responsibility I recently flew with American Airlines (AA) and they returned my luggage with a wheel completely missing. When I filed a claim, they refused to pay for the damage, claiming a missing wheel is 'normal wear and tear.'. At first, they claimed it because of the overweight which is completely false since there is no record of the overweight when I checked it at the original airport - JFK (my flight is from JFK - PIT with AA) + the luggage was completely fine and functional (the agent of JFK airport will always check that when they checked in your luggage). After first false claim, they now say the damage is "normal wear and tear" which is really ridiculous AND again the DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations. If the luggage missing a wheel, it's basically cannot function as a travel luggage. How do you guys classify it as "normal wear and tear"? and if you break something, especially property of your customers, should you step up and take responsibility and make it right to your customers? This is not just poor service; it's a violation of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, which explicitly state that airlines are liable for damage to wheels and handles. If you value your belongings, be warned: American Airlines has a policy of denying structural damage claims and will try to settle with low-value miles rather than taking responsibility. We are thoroughly dissatisfied with American Airlines and feel completely taken advantage of. In June, American Airlines charged us over $1,100 for a seat for our infant without our consent. I don't usually do this, but whatever you do - don't fly American Airlines. I missed two connecting flights, they tried to put me on one for the next day. I said no, and it took two hours later to get me on a flight that had seven open seats back to my home town. They didn't offer to pay for the hotel or offer any amenities. So, we finally make it home at 2:00am and guess whose baggage doesn't show up? It's still in Chicago. My keys were accidentally in my checked bag, so I had to pay an extra day for parking and to uber home at 2:30pm because my luggage got lost. I asked if I needed to do anything with my luggage, and they told me no. I wasn't going to write a review, but looking at others, it seems like 70% of the population has the same exact issues I have had. If you are traveling somewhere important or have important things in your bag, I don't recommend this airline. Also, stuff exploded in my bag and got all over my clothes...that is my fault, but it made it through on my way over, so I thought it could makes its way back. Nope.... read more

I fly AA about once a week for work... Yeah, there are times when weather and/or the FAA cause delays and then there are times when delays are due to issue with ground crew or other aspects controllable by AA. But overall, they're still an amazingly great airline... Like it or not, they're the best thing we've got in the US. Yes, Emirates and other int'l airlines do first class and comfort much better, but between Delta, UA, and AA, I'm going to go with AA each time! Those whining about issues really need to stick with their discount airlines, which might get them to their destination with no issues if everything goes well. have an N95 mask on. A mask that is the most protected for myself and people around me and the airline said I have to put on a different mask (the doctors mask) because the N95 doesn't protect anyone.......so I can either change it or cover the mask I had on, which made it impossible to breath. Always unprofessional and unable to handle any level of customer service. In the terminals they are horrendous. From the desk attendants to the managers, and while I won't mention names(flightAA762), I was told at check in that my sensitive computer equipment and lenses would allow me slight accessibility to early boarding - and I only required a slight permission, wasn't trying to get on the plane first and all - I was pretty much told to f'off by Debra - and her male manager when I approached the desk at the gate, who seemed to show up only to harass me, despite being told that boarding slightly earlier due to my equipment wouldn't be a problem. Sadly I was dealt with hostility, which wasn't an issue at the moment I boarded the plane. As I stowed my bag immediately and with kindness from the flight crew. I will say that the flight crews extend incredible hospitality, and I have no ill will towards the generous flight crew. But as someone in the service industry as well as the film industry, a little bit of tact and professionalism goes a long way. . But sadly, no one on the ground has ever dealt with actual people in a humane manner. Time and again, simply awful has been my experience from American Airlines. They continue to disappoint. Their website will not accept my info, their reps do not answer at their customer service number, and leaving a callback number as requested by their automated system does not get a callback either. Flew from Pittsburgh to Cancun. Upon return flight Cancun to Miami during Covid, My fiance was placed in a middle seat between a very overweight mother and adult son. Both required to have a seatbelt extender and had more than 6 inches of his body into the aisle and 6 inches into my fiances seat. The arm rests were not able to be put down. My fiance was basically under this man. This would be unacceptable during regular times. It is even more unacceptable during a pandemic. During boarding another woman stalled the flight for 15 minutes to throw a fit about her perfectly fine seat. But the flight attendant directly addressed my fiance and did not do anything about it. We reached out to American Airlines and were basically told "too bad you should have done something about it". It is unacceptable to see a customer like that and leave it up to them to procure a safer seat. read more

I am a loyal Southwest traveler, but my company uses American, so guess who I fly with most? My most recent flight was anything but awesome, but AA couldn't have been more helpful. I flew into Dallas from Pittsburgh, not realizing until close to landing that we were 30-40 minutes late. I missed my connection in the next terminal over. Sad, I wandered over to the next empty gate and an agent quickly printed me a boarding pass for the next flight. But what about my luggage? Will it find me in Austin? Hungry and cranky, every little thing made the experience all the more miserable. The closest food outlet to my gate? A barbecue place--what's a vegetarian to do? The next closest--a sit-down restaurant. I DON'T HAVE TIME!!! Due to storms in Dallas, every flight was delayed. We boarded 30 minutes late and crawled into the back of the line behind about a dozen other planes waiting for the OK to take off. The pilot and flight attendants kept passengers in the loop as to what kind of delay we could expect and when we could bust out our cell phones and complain to our friends and family about the weather. We soon received the OK to leave. My baggage found its way to the carousel in Austin shortly after I did and all was well. Hoorah! read more

I am disappointed in American Airlines and will NEVER fly with them again. Not only did they ruin our month-long, planned vacation to Alaska to visit our son, his wife, and our new grandson in June, but they did it on the return flight after our month's stay there. We arrived in Pittsburgh to learn the landing gear was broken. By the time they decided to tell the passengers, there was no way we could get our (or any) connecting flights from Dallas to Anchorage. They then switched us to United, where we lost our first-class seats, and we flew to Chicago. In Chicago, American Airlines neglected to make the ticket transfer into the computer, as they assured us they would. We had two seats, but not together, until a very kind gentleman traded with us. We had the very last, first class seats which didn't recline for the 5 1/2 hour trip and had broken t.v.s. It was a tortuous ride since I had a hip injury. I still applaud United for finding us any seats on that flight to Alaska. We arrived in Anchorage to discover American Airlines transferred only my suitcase, but not my husband's. United had to track it to Seattle, and it was delayed for two full days. Thinking we couldn't be jinxed twice, I was mistaken. Our flight was again delayed returning home via Dallas, and we missed our connection. After a five-hour delay in Dallas (with another broken plane), AA put us on a booked flight where they was able to get me a first class seat, but my husband had to ride economy back to Pittsburgh. Throughout this whole fiasco, no one apologized the entire time for both of these incidents, although today my husband did receive a letter indicating they would reimburse the difference for all the non-first-class seats. Ironically, we also received mail asking us if we wanted to enroll in an American Airlines credit card. How tasteless can this airline possibly get? American Airlines is incapable of getting a flight to leave and land on time. I will not fly with them again! read more

Having flown Southwest Air, Delta, and American within the last few months, I have to give the nod to American. A little more leg room in the regular coach. And I think the staff is a little more friendly. Circumstances dictated that I arrive 5 hours before my flight from Pittsburgh to West Palm Beach with a layover in Charlotte. The part of the airport was empty and I was chatting with the cleaning crew when an agent arrived at the gate. He asked why I was there so early and then, without asking, found me a seat on a flight to Charlotte that was currently boarding. I know that I still had to wait at the layover instead of Pittsburgh, but this gave me time to get lunch there instead of hurrying from one gate to the next. read more

American Airlines was absolutely dreadful on our vacation and I will never use them again. We had an early morning flight (6am) so we stayed at a hotel at the airport. Woke up 3 am to a message that our flight (6 travellers) was cancelled and we had to wait until the next day to start our vacation. In addition, we had to pay for 2 more hotel rooms and another day of parking. The only excuse they could give was it was due to the weather. On the way back, they again cancelled our flight and moved us to one later in the day which meant we had to sit in the airport for 4 hours in Punta Cana, but only had 1 hour in Philadelphia to clear customs immigration and security. We almost missed our last flight home. When we contacted them to request reimbursement for the hotel and parking, they denied it. Never use them ever again read more
