I want to tell everyone about this place but I also don't want to tell anyone!! Make a reservation over the phone, the space is tiny and will fill up very quickly. Very cozy, intimate atmosphere. The food is really really good, some of the best Italian in NYC. I love their chicken parm and order it every time. The other pasta's and entrees I've tried by picking bites off my husband's plate and those have been fantastic as well. The wine is good, limited menu but that's fine by me. We also ordered the tiramisu and it was divine! can't wait for the patio to be open to sit outside in the summer and snack and drink! I've been to other cult of personality restaurants in the city like Kabab Cafe or Dough Vale. Oftentimes an exceptionally sociable proprietor detracts from the food, but thankfully Spiga is the exception that proves the rule, churning out some of the better pastas in upper Manhattan. We shared the fusilli with pesto and burrata and gnocchi with a light tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella. Both were quite satisfying without being overly heavy, although the gnocchi was the preferred of the two - the fresh mozzarella provided great textural contrast, and the portioning was not too stingy. The rustic set-up is quite inviting, and there's a nice atmosphere created from how the restaurant gradually spills onto the sidewalk. I would come back. read more

My friend kept asking for Americanized dishes like chicken fettuccine and our server said his Uncle the chef would scoff at such menu suggestions. So cute. It wasn't until we arrived at the restaurant after deciding on it base on Yelp reviews that I realized it was already on my list. My daughter and I had been to the wine bar across the street and were admiring how quaint was Spiga was and wondering if we should have chosen to go there instead. This was our second time dining at Spiga, and everything about it was just as incredible as the first. I would definitely recommend calling for a reservation, as there are only ~10 tables inside. The space was warm and inviting during these chilly winter months, and service was friendly and quick. They had a great selection of wine to choose from, although my partner had a peroni instead. To start, their bread with olive oil was a perfect bite. We shared the Caprese di Buffala as an appetizer, and even though tomatoes aren't in season, they were juicy and sweet paired with the creamy mozz. For my dinner, I had the fusilli with pesto, sundried tomatoes, burrata and pistachios. In my opinion, this is the most perfect pasta I've ever had! The pesto was so flavorful, the pistachios added a perfect crunch, and the homemade pasta was outstanding. My partner had the gnocchi in a tomato sauce, which he quickly devoured. We stopped by Spiga for dinner Friday night, note to self: definitely get a reservation next time! Thankfully we arrived early enough before the crowd and was able to grab a table (with exception that manager said we had to leave by 1.5 hours). We took a chance, we actually ended up closer to 2 hrs but luckily they didn't say anything. There are not many table, only all out on the street. Indoors there are only 3 tables, so very small. We ordered the meatballs and artichoke for apps, while I generally love meatballs and this was a very filling hardy meatball, it was on the salty side. The artichoke salad was also very fresh. For mains we shared the paccheri alla Norma, which hubby loved. He said the pasta consistency was spot on! The black ink pasta with shrimp and calamari, flavor was ok. Liked the shrimp but calamari was nothing to rave about. And the chicken parm which I thought I would immediately love. However it was also rather salty. Either I seriously cook with no salt flavor or I am really sensitive to salt. The side dish of broccoli rabe can be skipped. Overall service was excellent, authentic with homemade pastas. read more

I was traveling out to NYC for the first time and this restaurant was the first restaurant I've been to my entire trip that had really good customer service. From the moment I arrived I was greeted. I got to choose where I wanted to sit and immediately got waters and menus. Ordered a few things off menu but when everything arrived I was astonished. The food tasted fresh and straight out of a dream I didn't wanna wake up from. I'm so glad to have chose this place over all the others I passed by because I didn't regret it at all. First of all...the service! Exactly what you expect when you dine out. Just exceptional. The space is small. I think 8 tables in total. It's a tiny restaurant and perfect for a cozy night winter vibe. The food was good. It wasn't spectacular. Portion sizes were good. Pricing was good. How lucky the locals are on the upper west side to have this sweet, cozy Italian delight, The owner, Marco, greets you at the door of this tiny haven with a warm smile and the evening is underway (definitely make a reservation). After another restaurant one block away was not serving chicken parmigiana we decided to try Spiga. The restaurant appeared very cute and cozy from the outside with only about 6 tables inside, all full. The owner ( I assume) was kind enough to offer us a table outside in a semi enclosed seating area. We were pleased to find blankets on each chair to keep us warm as I was quite chilly outside. The owner recommended a great red wine and even educated us on Italian wines. We ordered the meat ball appetizer, chicken parmigiana with rigatoni and marinara and also pasta allá norma. The meatballs came out with delicious fresh bread and the sauce was incredible. Our entrees were also amazing and my husband and I said the pasta was the best we have ever had.
