Cool to see another hang out spot on the SE side of town. Stopped in with some buddies for some beers on a Friday afternoon. Overall the vibe was pretty chill and the smaller location took me back to the craft beer scene a few years ago, where owners toiled away in plain sight of customers and passionate craft drinkers were still stoked to tell you about the beers. Also cool that it is wholly owned by women, a demographic that is not largely represented in craft beer. I tried 5x 4oz samplers to start with. All 5 were fairly light bodied and pretty crisp. All seemed well attenuated and no off flavors. - The Wimea Pale Ale has a nice subtly-sweet malt note that balanced well with the hops - The Grazing Goat IPA has a pleasant citrus bitterness that reminded me of a time when IPAs were still IPAs and not hoppy pales (I'm looking at you, Hazy's!) - The Deer Hugger Hazy was nice, although didn't really stand out among the other pales/IPAs. - The Sneaky Deer Hazy Double had a good balance of hoppiness and body and was super drinkable. this was my choice when I went back for another pint - The Tin Pan Alley Imperial Stout w/Coffee was decent, but lacked the body and malt I'm looking for in an Imperial Stout Overall, the beers were pretty tasty and location pretty cool. Our disappointment came when we noticed the bar tender pour a 12oz can of wine into one of their glasses and it filled it nearly to the top. It appears they're using 13oz Tulip glasses, so your $6 beer is actually more equivalent to a $7.40 pint. I'm all for specialized serving vessels, I just like to know what I'm paying for. Again, cool to see a place on the SE side to stop in for a beer that has good atmosphere and quality beers, just wish prices were closer to other folks in town or serving sizes were noted on the menu

Excellent brewery! It's a big space with a lot of great beers. I had an Italian style Pilsner. It was very good perfect for a hot day. They have a big indoor space and some outdoor seating as well. It was a good stop, I'd definitely recommend a stop by!

Excellent beer at Spider City Brewing!

Wonderful brewery that's a new discovery at least to me since my last trip to Bend. I wiped out all my brewery stops when I was there during that time but there are always new breweries on the horizon even though some areas may not experience it as frequently or rapidly as other areas. Spider City was my favorite brewery on this most recent trip when Steve and I hit a handful of newcomers. The beer here is experimental in beer recipes and flavors and that is always what I'm looking for when doing these visits to multiple breweries in a given trip. The taproom here is roomy and comfortable which is always a great combination. Now onto the good stuff... the beer! At this brewery I got their Cherrywood Smoked Porter which was fantastic! I don't see Cherrywood beer much in all of my excursions to different breweries so I really thought I should take the opportunity to get one. I loved a Cherrywood beer back in Colorado when I visited one time and this one was excellent as well. Steve got the Kaffir Lime Sea Salt Gose which was an excellent beer as well. Spider City was an excellent stop and well worth making a return trip for!

Beer so good, I'll have another please! Great atmosphere, great service, 15+ options on tap, and delicious burgers from Americana food truck. If you are looking for a brewery to enjoy with family, friends, pups, or a solo beer after work, this is the place for you! Thanks spider city, I'll definitely be returning soon.

Stopped into this little place on my visit from Arizona. Brita was so helpful and kind. Beer is great, atmosphere is even better!

Half warehouse, half bar. It's a smaller place that other breweries but it's got a nice vibe to it. The selection is smaller than most places and there's only space for about 20-30 people but I like the furniture they have, it fits in with the barrels they have in the warehouse connected to their bar. Prices are great and the beer was good! They have a couple really great fruity/tarty brews that I don't remember the names of, but I remember I enjoyed it!

Amazing beer, cool ambiance! They are killing the hazy beer game which is not easy to do! Will make this one of our regular Bend stops!

It's been awhile since I visited here and it has really improved. The outdoor space is so much…read morenicer and the turf eliminates the dust that at times would be circling through the air from the kids running around playing. The Italian sandwich, order inside, it delicious! The smash burger outside in the food truck is great! Their mimosas are the best in town!

After eight years, Crux is overdue for a review update. Biggest reason is that quite a few years…read moreago they expanded the place significantly, opening up the large room to the right of the bar that opens into the outdoor area. That room is equipped with restrooms, relieving one of my major complaints about a lack of facilities, as well as a second serving station complete with taps. Since then, Crux has significantly changed the outdoor area as well although I'm not certain it's an upgrade. It's a little too landscaped and way too much like a playground now. Locals have always tended to refer to Crux as 'daycare but with beer.' The last several times I've come here, the second serving station has not been in operation even though it looks to be still fully functional. Meanwhile the line to the bar serving stations is often long, sometimes almost out the door. Not sure why that is, doesn't make sense to have the capacity to more efficiently serve customers but not use it. All that said, the beer is still stellar and they continue to have a wide range of beer choices, the new(ish) large room has plentiful high-top seating (mobility challenged folks will need to venture outside), and the music is kept below ear-splitting volume. You can also sit at the bar itself although the vibe there isn't great - it's not like a neighborhood pub bar. Crux still has a kitchen. I used to order directly from them but have since transitioned to patronizing one of the several food carts outside. Being food carts, they tend to come and go so I'll not go into detail there. That said, the new Alpine Smash burger is fabulous. The other significant change in recent years has been with the location. A dispute with the property owners to the west resulted in the access road that way being closed, requiring Crux patrons to use the road coming from Second/Scott Street (or ride a bike). The west road is now open, maybe because the Jackstraw housing complex over that way is now completed and the road serves their tenants. RIP Spoken Moto.

But what you really just cant be here, the seating area and the patio, incredible.... I also personally like the way they have the bar set up as an in/out. It is hard to find parking in that area. We went over the weekend and even after showing up a little later (1:30) the wait was 45 minutes for an outdoor table for 4. After waiting 55 mins and seeing more than 5 picnic tables outside vacant we went up to the hostess stand and she couldn't even tell us where we were at in the list (we had given our phone number when we put our name in). Then as they are trying to figure out how much longer we have to wait they continue to seat people who are just walking up outside. We finally get seated after an hour and then we have to wait another 10+ minutes to get kid menus (we had 2 kids in our party). Our waitress was friendly and got our drinks in right away. We ordered a pretzel for the table and the cheese dip was really tasty. One of our kids got a kid's cheeseburger and fries which were good. The other got a kid's grilled cheese which was on the smaller side with fries. We did a beer sampler which was a good way to check out several options. Overall rating would be 3.5 rating.

I have been wanting to try out the The Ale Apothecary for I don't know how long. It's safe to say…read moreit's been a long time. So on our last trip to Bend we finally made it here to the their taproom and it didn't disappoint at all. It was a great stop! We got a taster set of a variety of different beers that they had on tap and they were all quite good. Many of them have a wild ale aspect to them which I can appreciate at you don't come across this beer too much on a routine basis. The taproom is cool and I love all of their art specifically where fermentation liquids spilled onto a sheet or a cloth making various designs and hues during the brewing making process of their beers. Other excellent beers that we have had from this brewery are the Samalie which is a Wild Ale. This one I rated very highly on Untappd because it was so amazing! Things to look for in the flavor profile are sourness, tartness, fruitiness, a natural sweetness and a dry finish. Really an excellent beer! Moving on from that we had the great Ping Pong Table Beer. This was another beer I rated quite highly and enjoyed immensely. This beer is light bodies, smooth and effervescent with the flavor of elderflower at work. Another excellent beer! Definitely great beer experiences with this brewery and definitely recommend it to the more adventurous beer drinking folks. There are plenty of breweries to try out in Bend and if you are looking for something on the more unusual side The Ale Apothecary is a great place for such a thing!

Ale Apothecary is a wild fermentation brewery and blendery located in a commercial plaza in Bend. They don't have food, but there's plenty of other great options nearby including Bo's Falafel and Good Life Brewing around the corner. If you're on the Bend Ale Trail, this is a must-visit stop as well. We visited on a weekday afternoon after opening, so it wasn't busy at all. The friendly beer server was welcoming and shared about the brewery, explaining about the bottle selections, how they make everything, and what was available on tap or in bottles to try that day. The décor is super eclectic with fun things to look at and enjoy while sipping. They also have picnic tables and outdoor seating if you'd prefer. Bottles are also available to go. For its uniqueness, prices are super reasonable for complex beers. This isn't a brewery for everyone however, even their customer demanded line of "regular beers" each has a signature of funk from their house yeast strains. As a beer lover that enjoys everything, it was fun to taste each thing; friends enjoyed this place very much as well. If you're an adventurous beer fan, this is worth your time!
