I've been coming to Spicy Shallot for quite some time. Previously, the food here was mediocre. However, we recently went for outdoor dining during the pandemic and the food was spectacular. For appetizer, we ordered the curry chicken satay. I was surprised how tender the meat was because they use chicken breast. The peanut sauce was on point. They also served this app with a few pieces of toast and of course, we dunked it in the remaining peanut sauce :P. The star out of all the entrees we ordered was definitely the curry duck. It was rich and balanced with coconut milk and lemongrass and the duck was boneless, which makes it so much easier to eat. The duck was still crispy even when it was drenched in the sauce. I can have just the sauce and rice for dinner everyday! It was amazing! My second favorite was the Volcano crispy chicken, which was battered chicken, deep fried mixed with thai sweet chili sauce. Sweet, tangy and everything you ever wished for. Next would be the fried whole red snapper with basil sauce. The fish was a little dry for me and I wished there was more sauce. We also ordered crispy pork, which is served with Chinese broccoli. This was a little too sweet for me. Our last dish was drunken noodles with beef. This is a standard dish that we always order when we go to thai restaurants and do family style. Service was excellent here. My boyfriend andI came here for our anniversary. It was the first time coming here for both of us. We ordered fried calamari and BBQ beef appetizers. The calamari breading had really nice flavoring. It came with a spicy dipping sauce. The BBQ beef was a little sweet and was very tender. It also came with a smoky dipping sauce. The BBQ beef would've been great over rice. Definitely ordering this again in the future. For our main dishes we got duck with red curry (comes with rice) and a Thai fried rice. I had the option of getting pork, chicken, or tofu for no extra charge in my fried rice and I went with chicken. It was a bit bland, but it was good. The red curry was very flavorful. The bamboo shoots and pineapple chunks really absorb the flavor of the curry. The duck was very crispy. There were no pieces of bones in it. Both plates were very filling. I was craving mango sticky rice recently and am so thankful this shop was open later into the night. I got drunken noodles and thai ice coffee, in addition to the mango sticky rice which was made fresh. All of the food was great. The drunken noodles portions were good and the flavors were addicting, although a tad spicy for me despite it being mild (boo to poor spice tolerance). The Thai ice coffee was refreshing, a tad sweeter for my usually taste since I generally like low sweetness for my drinks but would still recommend-the sugar isnt adjustable unfortunately! The mango sticky rice was the highlight and definitely satisfied my cravings. I had gotten takeout and the food took around 20min as I wandered around. There are actually several Thai places located near this intersection, including the popular Ayada. We randomly chose this one, as it looked nice inside. It was a pleasant surprise how good this spot was since we just stumbled upon it. Reviews indicate that this place has been around for awhile, but based on how modern it looked, I assume it must have been renovated not too long ago. We had the green curry, red curry, spring rolls, and coconut water from here. The portion sizes were above average and everything tasted very fresh and full of flavor. The coconut water actually came in a huge 32 oz mug. The waitstaff was also very friendly. This appears to be a mom and pop run place, so the workers there seemed very attentive. I don't know why it's taken me so long to try this place. I guess I try to avoid Asian Fusion type restaurants but I was getting a few items from A.T. nearby so I wanted to compare drunken noodles. After trying both, we prefer Spicy Shallot's. Both are good and as much as I've always liked AT...SS's has a lot more flavor, not just heat. Noodles were soft and tender. I didn't eat the chicken but L said everything was really flavorful. A lil too salty for me so I added some raw veggies on the side to make it more filling as well. The pork jerky wasn't too sweet. L loved it, it was just okay for me, I don't really care for meat in general lately. Good simple meal with some rice and a fried egg. The Spicy Shallot was THEE go-to place for takeout amongst the summer camp staff I worked with while in New York. It really fueled us for those long hours that we put in with the kids. The shumai dumplings? Bomb. The crab rangoon? Bomb. The seafood fried rice? Bomb. The dynamite chicken? You guessed it, bomb. But my absolute favorite thing from the menu to order was the Thai Coffee. It's so sweet, creamy, and flavorful. The large size packs enough caffeine to power a small army! Time to RAVE over this restaurant (drooling as I type) Spicy Shallot is a local neighborhood Thai/Japanese spot that my Fiancé & I have been wanting to try for quite sometime! On a freezing Friday night we decided to stay local for our date night and finally made it to Spicy Shallot (& it did not disappoint), this restaurant is now in my top 10 favorites! The moment you arrive you notice the beautiful ambiance, would even make a great summer spot because of the great outdoor seating. Indoors is so cozy, with beautiful, fun neon signs, an awesome sushi bar, and of course a gorgeous beverage bar. We came right in time for Happy Hour (open-6pm) and were able to enjoy some cocktails for only $7! We started with a lychee sake mojito and a c major love (lychee and champagne) which were both incredible! They do not skimp on alcohol, we were feeling a bit buzzed just after one drink, and each sip was better than the next. For appetizers we decided on the Crab Rangoon (which I've been craving for awhile) and we shared a Queens roll (spicy tuna, shrimp topped with tuna, avocado, scallion, masago, spicy mayo, spicy sauce), both SO good. The Crab Rangoon comes with 6 pieces, each piece is so delicious and filled with cream cheese, combined with the shredded veggies and spicy/sweet chili sauce you cannot go wrong) and the Queens roll was probably the best sushi roll we've ever had, it's speciality for a reason! For entrees we both ordered noodle dishes, I ordered the chicken drunken noodles (spicy Basil noodles) and my Fiancé ordered the pork pad see eew noodles, both noodle dishes were super savory and full of flavor. We also ordered another round of cocktails, mine being a mango sake mojito and my fiancé ordered the blossom breeze (strawberry purée and champagne), these cocktails were also fantastic and overall we just had a 10/10 experience! Elmhurt is a hotspot for some really authentic and amazing Thai food. If you're debating which place to try first, then you should go for the Spicy Shallot for a spicy and special treat! Environment / Ambiance: Since they've expanded their square footage with the outdoor seating, this restaurant has a good size to it now. I don't know when, but I've been told they've renovated and now it has a really modern hip vibe to it. I love when small restaurants put in the extra effort and do it right because it really adds to the overall dining experience. A+ in my book. Did I add that every Friday and Saturday around 7:30 PM for like 2-3 hours they have live music! Jazz and popular songs I believe. I mean, who doesn't appreciate LIVE music when you're lounging or dining in. The seating is a bit tight but that's to be expected. They did a really good job with the exterior seats and decorations really giving it their own unique vibe. Not one of those sparse-just-making-the-cut kind of setups. Service: They were prompt and checked up on you often. Being a Thai place, just make sure you convey yourself properly and grab their attention if you need service. The servers are all wearing gloves and mask so great effort for cleanliness and standards. Food: Everything that I would have asked for. We went with the classics and ordered the fried shrimp rolls, a chicken pad-thai, and duck pad-see-ew. All of them were seasoned well and decent portions for the price. You can always measure how good a place is in how they perform on the classics in my book and these were all well above the average standard. Can't go wrong with any of those orders. I have to add, we were not drinking alcohol tonight, but I got an order of the lychee juice and man oh man, it was delicious and cooled me off on a warm summer night. : ) Summary: Great place to venture out to and get some really good Thai food. WOW! I wish I knew that this delicious place was just a few block away from my home. My partner and I stumbled upon their cute outdoor set up on Valentine's Day an were able to have a wonderful, reasonably priced lunch. We shared a large Tom Yum Soup (Shrimp) that was served hot, fresh and with a generous amount of broth and shrimp. We also shared the Basil Udon Noodles (Chicken). Again the plate was served hot, with fresh ingredients and generous portions. The staff were incredibly nice, and accommodated our requests for Thai Spicy spice level. The sushi was good, the seafood soup was amazing but way too spicy for me. The only thing that bothered me is that the seafood in it had a slight raw seafood smell. I recommend marinating raw seafood in lime or lemon juice & salt before cooking to get rid of the smell. The mango shrimp salad was good. I just wish the shrimp was seasoned. The sticky rice with Mango ice cream was really good but I expected a mound of rice, meaning a more generous serving. The mango ice cream was perfect. The spicy basil noodles my friend got was good but she said to make it extra spicy & my mouth & stomach was on fire after I tried a bite. The service is really good but they are understaffed. So, I went again today & got the large Thai iced tea. It was way too sweet. I recommend lowering the sweetner by 50%. I got the spicy basil veggie duck. I said mild but there was no spice in it whatsoever. The beans in it were absolutely bland. The sauce was sweet & runny. It looked & tasted too watered down, for the cashew chicken as well. Came to Little Thailand to eat some Thai food at this place which my brother chose. I originally wanted to come to this area to go to the Khao Nom Thai restaurant which was recommended. There are 4 Thai restaurants all across the street from each other within 2 blocks. I had the Red Curry with Pork along with Thai Iced Tea. My brother had the Thai Pad Noodles with Beef. He was disappointed cause his noodles which are supposed to be flat in appearance looked more like spaghetti. I'm not a picky eater and this was only my second time eating Thai food. My go to thai restaurant in the neighborhood especially for their lunch specials which comes with an appetizer and an entree. I usually get the drunken noodles (beware it's very spice if you cannot handle spicy I suggest letting them know or putting the spice on the side cause even with mild it still very spicy) I recently got their tom yum noodle soup and it was so delicious! Especially for a perfect cold day, it doesn't taste like your regular tom yum soup. It's more flavorful, I would definitely come back for this dish again! read more

One of the best restaurants in the neighborhood for a few reasons. Delicious food and a huge variety of choices. If you love Asian food you can't go wrong here. The Pad Sed Ew is fantastic as is their crab fried rice. Wonderful drinks and iced coffees as well. The service is wonderful and servers greet you warmly and make you feel at home. I have a service animal and they bring him a bowl of water - so thoughtful! They also have a wonderful ambience and decor with nice inside and outside seating. It is great for lunch and in the evenings it transforms into a fun nightspot with cool lighting and a DJ. I love having this place close by.
