I have always really loved this place in the past, but something has definitely changed. Their magic just isn't there anymore. I ate here with friends recently that I brought to specifically try their menu. In my mind, this place has the best asian food in Blacksburg. However, I was embarrassed after bringing them here this time. Our waiter was not very attentive and did not follow up on many of our requests or walked away too quickly for us to make them. There were food mix-ups and instead of just getting the right food out on the table, he repeatedly questioned my friends about their orders and looked over everyone's food to check for my plate. It was a mess. The food itself was good, but not as great as it normally has been. I was surprised to hear the general tso's my friend ordered came with only 2 pieces of broccoli and she would have to pay to have "extra broccoli ". I have been dying to try this restaurant for years now. My in-laws live in Christiansburg and whenever I come to the area I resign myself to tasty but very Americana fare. I had read about a legit sichuan restaurant in Blacksburg and kept meaning to make the trek. As background, I LOVE sichuan. I get it every chance I can in SF (where I live), in NYC, and in the DC burbs. Green sichuan peppercorns are my spirit spice. And, fortunately, Spicity delivers. The decor of the restaurant is reminiscent of a PF Changs and the staff is friendly, and helpful. However I just stopped in for takeout-- making a mental note to eat in when Omnicron has abated. As for the food-- it was all excellent. I thought they hit the right amount of spice, but my in laws informed me it was indeed spicy. Here's what I ordered: -Steamed Dumplings: I didn't try these but my in laws raves about them. They were perfect for someone looking for lots of flavor, substance, but without a ton of heat. -Mapo: holy spice and flavor bomb. This was my personal favorite-- chunks of silky tofu and bits of ground pork in a flavorful sauce. Excellent. Would definitely order again. -Fish in Boiling Stew: great mala taste and very clean. The portion size was good and the spice wasn't too overwhelming. This tastes more like a light herbal base versus the heavy herbal seasoning I'm used to. Overall very good. -Spicy Chicken: great flavor but very little meat. Lots of chitlings and pieces of fried skin. I loved the taste but felt like this was not substantial and not a good value. -Drypot Shirmp: flavor was excellent and the vegetables mixed with protein were delicious. The shrimps were a little over cooked and spice was minimal. My in laws enjoyed this dish but I may try it in chicken, pork, or beef next time. It's our go-to whenever we visit VT. Our recent to-go order on a Sunday around 1pm was subpar, however. Everything tasted less flavorful than usual. The chicken and broccoli was greasy, and the broccoli was overcooked to the point of being mushy, some falling apart even as I tried to pick them up. I prefer perfectly cooked broccoli with a bite. The spicy beans with Sichuan peppers tasted alright but could have been a bit firmer--again, they over cooked/fried the beans that they were too soft. The pickled mustard & pork rice noodles soup tasted good, but the rice noodles were too soft (again, overcooked). The pepper tofu skin over rice was a big portion but lacked flavor. I also found 1 piece of hair in it. The service at order pickup was quick and friendly but the college-aged guy didn't seem too experienced and had trouble finding me utensil and plates...etc. The to-go order was stacked 4 containers high with 2 containers of steamed rice on top. It was too much weight and the bottom plastic container was a bit pushed in and the sauce leaked all over . If it weren't for the plastic bag outside the paper bag , my car would have been an oily mess. Overall, we still really like this place as the place seems clean (the bathrooms are pretty clean, and I like to judge the cleanliness of a place by that of its bathrooms), the staff friendly, it offers some authentic Chinese cuisine, and their prices are reasonable (as compared to the other alternatives available in Blacksburg and surrounding region). This ranks among some of the best szechuan food I have had in NYC and was a pleasant surprise in Blacksburg. The service is friendly and the food is delectable. The portions are large and meant to be shared, so two entrees would be plenty for two people, but since we wanted to try a bunch of dishes we ordered four. Dry pot chicken, ma po tofu, shredded pork in garlic sauce (was our favorite) and sweet and sour ribs. The dry pot chicken was great, crispy and nice and spicy. The ma po tofu was perfect, loads of flavor with the right amount of spice. The shredded pork with garlic wasn't spicy, but was delicious, it was our favorite. The sweet and sour ribs were very good, but the other three were better. I'm going to keep this brief. This is hands down the best Chinese food I've had in the last few years. I was in town for the weekend and my parting lunch before heading home was with the bro-in-law. We ended up ordering the same entree, Braised Beef Brisket with noodles, plus one order each of steamed dumplings, fried dumplings, and chicken on a stick. The dumplings by themselves were pretty good, but that dipping sauce put them over the top. The chicken was that perfect crispyness and was mildly addictive. Our beef and noodle bowls were marked on the menu as spicy, and it was just slightly below manageable on my end. When I ran out of milk tea to keep my taste buds cooled off, a big glass of ice water was just the thing to help finish off the noodles. There will be plenty of future visits to Blacksburg and I'm definitely coming back to Spicity to explore more of the menu. I may have lied about keeping it brief. read more

One of the better Asian places I have tried in Virginia since I've been here. The place is decorated very cute, and there are lots of booths. I came during a non-busy school time, so I was able to be seated right away. My food took about 10 mins to be brought to me, which indicated they don't pre-make the food. That's appreciated. I ordered a General Tso's chicken and the crab rangoon appetizer. The chicken was really delicious. Spicy and fresh. I enjoyed the side of steamed broccoli to add some color of the plate. The Rangoon was a little dry with the cream cheese being left in the heat too long. I wouldn't bother with them again. Spicity was one of the many restaurants that opened during the fall semester. I've heard a lot of good things about this place so I had to give it a try! One of my friends actually came up from Roanoke since he heard about it too. We came in and got seated immediately which was nice. They had a relatively large menu so it took us a while to order. After a while we decided to get half a roasted duck, house special fried rice, and fatty beef dry hot pot. The food was really good! The roasted duck was nice and fatty, the fried rice had good seasoning. The fatty beef dry hot pot was also good, but a little too spicy and salty for me. However, when it was paired with plain white rice it was really good. Overall, if you hadn't tried this place out yet, I say give it a try. Starting off by saying that there are not many Asian Resturaunts in Blacksburg, this being one of them. They have a lot of usual Chinese dishes on the menu. My group ended up ordering the Twice Cooked Pork, their version of Mapo Tofu, Sweet and Sour Fish and a few other dishes I don't remember. Overall, the food was solid but the portions were definitely on the smaller side and the prices were high especially given the area. This is a terrific Chinese Restaurant and will be the best in Blacksburg! The menu is huge everything from jellyfish to pig's ears. We started with hot tea for me (a pot) and cokes for my sons. Too early to hit the sake. The appetizer we chose was Szechuan Kimchi which was very tasty and had us anticipating the main entree. We ordered Sesame Chicken which was very good and had a zing of spice to it. I had the Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce excellent. The pork was in bite sized pieces with just the right amount of garlic and spices! My son Rick likes to try new things and ordered the Teriyaki Frog. It was delicious BUT there are very small bones in each piece that we weren't told about. All the entrees came with a rounded scoop of white rice. Very enjoyable lunch. Couple things I'd recommend is that the menu lists the bones in the Teriyaki Frog. There was no way to eat it with chopsticks and each little piece had to be checked for bones. My coworker told me that there was a new restaurant coming to town, and when I found out that it was going to be a Szechuan style Chinese restaurant -- I was ecstatic. My go-to place was always Hunan King; however, when I went to Spicity when they opened, I was NOT disappointed. So much so that I went at least twice a week for a month straight! Don't get me wrong, it is pricey but well worth it. I always order to the Beef Dry Pot. It has a great amount of flavor; however, it is a bit small. Another great dish is the Eggplant. I am usually not a big fan of Eggplant but this dish has changed my opinion on Eggplants. There are a bunch of other dishes that I have tried, and I can honestly say that none of the dishes have disappointed me thus far. The interior has a lot of decor and is easy on the eye -- that being said, it doesn't look like a cheap Chinese restaurant that is poorly ran. The staff is well trained and kind. I found Spicity by doing a Yelp search and expected a good place. I walked in and discovered what is likely one of the best Chinese food joints I've ever visited. The decor is terrific and everything from the dishes to the waits staffs uniforms was appealing just like the sigh out front. The staff are all friendly and well trained. The menu is extensive and what's really cool are the beauty shots of the dishes with very good description. I ordered the fatty beef dry pot which was neither fatty or dry it was tender and unbelievably flavorful. I also had shrimp fried rice which had a spice profile beyond description. Not your ordinary Chinese food that is for damn sure. I was thoroughly impressed! Food service from order to delivery was lighting fast and everything was hot with fresh cut veggies and lots of interesting taste sensations all over the pallet. If a TWO hour wait at lunch time waiting at the table to be served sounds unacceptable to you, try somewhere else, at least avoid it for the first several months until they sort their stuff out. Besides, no takeouts available now. Yes, they only serve dining in customers at this moment. The food is OKAY but trust me, "OKAY" Chinese food at Blacksburg is already a big step forward. Where to begin, we felt very happy when we first arrived at Spicity as the restaurant looked very scenic and we had heard very good things about this restaurant. Our server, was incredibly rude to us as she would rarely check on us and she would zip around. My girlfriend recieved her food fairly quickly, but mine came roughly after an hour. When it finally arrived, it was just not good at all, and neither was my girlfriend's food. She also ordered a tea that took 40 minutes to brew, think about that for a second, and it was iced in a plastic cup, when the excuse given was because dishes needed to be washed. When we had asked for a refund, the condescending boss of the establishment gaslit me into thinking its my fault for having to wait so long which made no sense. This place is a hidden gem that popped out of nowhere. It's refreshing to have some tasty authentic Chinese food in this area. My friends got the roast duck noodle, stir fried eggplant in a spicy sauce, and I got the spare ribs over rice. Each dish was amazing and delicious!
