The nice and comfortable furniture and minimalist decor of the restaurant.

Best Wok is located next to the Dollar General in the Mountain View Plaza, in Troutville, Virginia. This small family owned business makes Hunan, Szechuan & Cantonese Style Chinese Food to Take Out or Eat in. Besides having a great variety of appetizers and individual dishes, they also have a nice selection of Luncheon Specials and Special Combination Plates, all are served with Pork Fried Rice and an Egg Roll. I arrived with a friend on a late Tuesday afternoon to have an early dinner there. The restaurant had a small dining area with a few tables and chairs and a minimalist decor. It had an ordering counter with large signs hanging from above with some of the menu items and photos of them. On the right side of the counter and on a table on the right, they had like a small Market with some Chinese items for sale such as Keychains, cups, and easly to use modern chopsticks. A friendly lady welcomed us with a smile and took our order. We both ordered the Pork Lo Mein Special Combination Plates which came with Pork Fried Rice and an Egg Roll. We also ordered two extra Pork Egg Rolls as appetizer. To drink we had bottles of Pepsi. While we waited for our food to be ready, we picked a table and sat down. As we talked I noticed the on the left of the counter they had boxes with the different sauces, the plastic silverware, and small menus to use there and to take home so if we wanted food for take out in the future, we could order ahead and they would have it ready when we got there. Some of the customers who came in while we were there did just that. Making it very convenient to place take out orders that way. They encourage you to order by the number so no mistakes are made. When our food was ready the lady called us and we picked them up at the counter. They were served in the same plastic black containers that food is serve to take out, but I noticed that to eat in they did not cover the containers with lids, thus being able to accommodate more food inside and overflowing on the top. The Pork Lo Mein looked and tasted good. The noodles were mixed with sauce and very tasty. The long slices of pieces of pork also made the flavor stand out. The same with the Pork Fried Rice. The slightly larger pieces of pork made the difference in bringing out its taste. The Egg Rolls were a good size Rolls and also tasted very good. It seems most of their business is take out orders, but we enjoyed having our meals there. The only thing I missed was the fortune cookie. They are listed in the menu as 5 for $1.25, but I believe including at least a complimentary one per person would be more valuable in goodwill points to the restaurant.

Sorry ass fried chicken wings.. i mean really sorry tasting wings, dry like dust

Given it was xmas day, we were on the highways driving from NYC, we found this take out as a last resort under heavy rain and every place being closed. At first it seemed like a blessing in a rainy night, once we order and were served, a while different deal. The sesame chicken and white rice was mediocre at best. The white steamed Rice was gummy, the chicken had a coating of sesame and a very sweet red sauce, totally not close to even food from China wok at thee mall. I digress neither has any authenticity but flavors were off. Chicken wings were so over fried that all you can taste was the salt, the general tso chicken tasted the same like the sesame chickens except no sesame seeds, the egg rolls were ok. The wife order boneless pork ribs, pretty tasty but not great, the fried rice was more like yellow rice with frozen veggies. As i said, unless you are dying of hunger and there is nothing else open, dine here. Otherwise, skip it. Chicken wings were so dry, it was bad. Lucky for me that i prepared myself mentally with low expectations.

Its name takes you directly to the kitchen item most commonly used for stir-frying Chinese food…read more But unconsciously what you think about when you hear this name is the exquisite Chinese cuisine that's found inside. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And China Wok Restaurant in Roanoke, Virginia, is the perfect example. The Wok is a large, bowl-shaped Chinese cooking pan with deep sides, traditionally used for stir-frying, and invented in China over 2,000 years ago. Its origin possibly dates back to the Han dynasty. Yet by using its name as part of this Restaurant's name, it seems to remind us of the flavorful food that is the Chinese cuisine. And this small and unassuming, family-owned restaurant focuses in it's totality in delivering quality food, cooked right. And this is precisely what they deliver. I arrived at the restaurant and the outdoor parking lot sign read: "CHINA WOK RESTAURANT / CHINESE FOOD / DINE-IN CARRY OUT / 362-2266. Although the majority of its sales are Carry Out, and this is why their phone number is listed in large print on the sign, they still have a small dining area with comfortable booths where customers can come and dine in if they prefer. And in that area they even offer self-service complementary Chinese tea. They lack space due to the large demand, so this dining area is shared as a storage area as well. But everything is clean so you don't seem to mind eating in a room that is also full of boxes. As soon as I walked in, a young Chinese lady was taking the take-out order of another customer who had arrived before me. I took the opportunity to take one of their menus which was on one side of a poster size sheet of paper, and were laying on the counter. It had such a great variety of dishes, specials, and combinations plates, that I was a little lost. But when it was my turn to approach the counter, the young lady who spoke perfect English greeted me with a friendly smile and gave me a warm welcome. She even helped me find a dish when I told her that I would like something with Roast Pork. I ordered the Roast Pork with Broccoli. It came with Pork Fried Rice and an Egg Roll. And they even included a Fortune Cookie. That's when she told me about the complimentary tea in the dining room. The young lady who took my order delivered it in person at my booth and even brought me a cup of tea with a container of sugar so that I could sweeten it. The food was amazingly delicious. I invite you to see for yourself in my photographs accompanying this review. The roast pork was so juicy and tasty, the broccoli so fresh and crispy, the egg roll not greasy at all, and the rice cooked to perfection. In conclusion, I highly recommend this Chinese Restaurant, after experiencing first hand the reason for its popularity. Their great hospitality, joined in with their amazing food, to make it an extraordinary dining experience.

Yelp has this listed as " China City" but I am pretty sure the sign in front of the restaurant says…read more" Mei's China City". Now, with that being set allow me to also note that I have only eaten take out from this place. They offer a buffet during lunch and dinner, but I prefer to eat my chinese food in front of the TV on my couch, so take out it is. My preferred meal of choice here is the small sized chicken and broccoli with white rice. Believe me when I say the small sized is more than enough for one meal, even if you're starving. They also have very tasty general tsos chicken which comes with a cabbage egg roll. I always swap out the fried rice for white rice, but that is merely a personal preference. All the take out options are reasonably priced and always fresh. Every time I have placed a take out order it has been ready exactly when they stated it would be. Don't be alarmed if they ask for your phone number when ordering as they use your number, not your name, to keep take out orders straight. The counter to pick up your order is located directly in front of you as you open the door so you don't have to waltz across the whole restaurant to pick up your food. If you're a lover of soy sauce like me then I would suggest asking for a few more packs as they usually only give one or two packs, but for some reason always include hot mustard regardless of what I order.
