I found the online menu, but really the options were much more plentiful. At 11:30 I gave the restaurant a call to place an order for 11 lunch boxes, plus naans, and some mango lassis. Because I didn't realize that each meat option had multiple choices, the person taking my order kindly read them out to me and I made some strong choices. He let me know that my order would be ready in around 35 minutes from then. The parking lot had plenty of spaces at that time, and the restaurant wasn't too crowded, though there were several people eating at their buffet. We got there a bit early but were offered a seat and some water while we waited which was nice. The restaurant looked nice and I'd definitely bring family here when they next come to visit. We soon got our food with everything included! All was delicious. The spice level skewed mild but still flavorful, the daal was good, rice and naan well cooked. The amount of food for the price is amazing, easily two servings for me. I got the shrimp but in the future I will try the butter chicken, my go-to. My colleagues who got the goat liked the curry itself, but there were quite a few bones. The mango lassi was thick and delicious. Will definitely be back!

Plus they have a small salad bar option and deserts option too. The food was fresh and flavorful, they offer also Nan bread with the buffet. Service was excellent and the decor inside was nice. Their buffet hours vary from weekday to weekend so my recommendation is to call them about the hours. Overall great Indias restaurant to try Indian food.

My only regret and disappointment is that it's been open for seven years and this is the first time I've discovered this wonderful find in the heart of New Haven. I have been looking to come to this place for sometime, but you do need to do reservations for a Saturday night. I didn't want two weeks earlier through Resy. Full disclosure, I get a credit from American Express as part of their partnership with Resy and this is one of the locations that you can obtain that benefit from. We arrived shortly before our reservation time and waited in line as two other groups were turned away as they were all booked up for dinner until much later in the evening. Once inside, I understood as it is not a large dining area. The motive is very Indian forward with images of transportation themes from India, including bicycles on the ceiling above the tables. To start with, the drinks were some of the most flavorful options I have had in some time all with a very traditional Indian twist. I am not big on coconut or tequila, but my wife loved her coconut tequila drink. I thought the Manhattan was a big hit as the date balanced out the flavors perfectly. Even the cold drink, my daughter got reminded me of getting the same back in India. I personally was not a big fan of the mango lassi. My son got but he loved it. It was a bit thick for my taste. With regards to the food options, this reminded me of being in Manak Chok in India. For those that don't know, that is an area in western India known for its street foods and late night dining. The smells and tastes of the food would fit right in there. We started with the Dahi puri. This was a big hit for the entire family. You get six items in the order and this is a great place to start, especially if you like the balance of the street food. The Chaat Dog was also a big hit. We got the option with Lamb covered in chaat. The role was toasted perfectly and the balance of the flavors really hit well. The entire family enjoyed the chicken stuffed naan with the side of the sauce. I will admit it had a bit of a kick, so be careful for those who are not looking for spice forward foods. I have always been a big fan of Chole Bhature (chick peas and puffed whole wheat fried bread). The one here was nearly perfect as served. I was saying to my wife, that it could only be made better with a little bit of raw onion on top. As luck would have it, the waitress overheard my comment and next thing you know, we had a side of chopped onions and lime, the perfect topping for this dish. With regards to the biryani, it was flavorful, though it has never been my favorite thing. It comes with a side of raita as well. Again, that is not something I really enjoy. However, all three of my family enjoyed this immensely, and the serving was so generous, we had a decent amount of leftovers after our meal. We finished the night with some mango kulfi. It was too large scoops as you can see by the picture. This was the perfect sharing dessert for the four of us to conclude our meal. As noted above, our waitress was super attentive and very quick to bring out the dishes and drinks throughout our dinner. I will note that the price point is also great for New Haven restaurants as the complete meal with drinks for all and a dessert came out to $120 before tax and tip. This is definitely a place I would strongly recommend for any in the area. If you're not close by, book a reservation before you come down so it's not to miss out on this amazing experience. It is definitely worth a try if you want a traditional Indian street food experience. They do also have options like more traditional Punjabi style restaurants on the menu, but we focused more so on the street food options during our first visit. I will update further as I experience this place again which I expect to happen in the very near future.

It isn't for lack of anything else. Their Indian food definitely meets the mark with the flavors and spices. I like their Indo-Chinese menu, especially their Hakka noodles. I think their Hakka noodles might be my personal favorite dish here but my traditional go-to at any Indian restaurant is tikka missala or butter chicken. The staff here is always friendly. On this visit, we got their fried cauliflower (Gobi Manchurin) and it was very hot but so tasty. Just be warned that it's SPICY. We also ordered Saag (spinach) but it's not my cup of tea. The others who were with me said it's pretty average Saag if you are into that. Food - 9 out of 10 Service - 9 out of 10

If you enjoy the flavors of Indian food as well as one of those quick service, hot chicken restaurants you probably would enjoy Hot Murga. The chicken sandwich comes in five spice levels from no heat to super hot. I got the standard hot, and it has some kick, but it wasn't overpowering. Then again I enjoy spicy food. I also ordered their spiced mac & cheese. Again, not spicy at all, but flavorful. Also a good portion as I have leftovers for later. I had my food delivered, but this establishment is close to the Yale campus and street parking can be a bit tricky on Howe St. and around Broadway. I've been inside of the space once when it was a different restaurant some years ago, it's not a large space, but I'm pretty sure comfortable if you decided to dine in. If you ever find yourselves at a crossroad between wanting Chick-fil-A and Indian food, this would be a great alternative.

Honestly, I didn't think the Murga Sandwich itself had too much flavor - the fry was good and the chicken was juicy & crispy, it was just a lacking seasoning and even "hot" was not super spicy. The spice itself also tasted very one dimensional - just spicy, with no seasoning. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by the sandwich itself, but would be interested in trying some of their other sauces. The Badmaash Mac & Cheese was the redeeming item of the meal though - this is basically a Mac & Cheese, covered in tikka sauce & their spicy sauce, and topped with fried chicken. It's definitely a unique flavor, and I think the tikka masala sauce went really well with the cheesy mac texture. Definitely seems like the kind of late night out comfort craving, because it is super heavy. p.s. - pro tip, the sandwich itself is $12 but the sliders are $6 and definitely larger than half of a sandwich (probably closer to 2/3rds). So I'd get 2 sliders for $12 instead of a sandwich.

I'm sure it looks better at night, for it wasn't anything special during the day. The velvet couch we sat on was nice though. Unfortunately we didn't arrive until about 15 minutes prior to lunch service being over. Hours posted for lunch were until 3:00, however upon arriving there was a sign on the door saying they stop serving lunch at either 2:30 or 2:45 (don't remember as again this was mid October). We felt bad walking in there because there was only maybe 1 or 2 other tables in there still, however they said we were welcome to sit and have lunch. We said we'd be quick. We really shouldn't have done this because it was clear they wanted us out quickly. The menu was a bit confusing. "Choose one protein, one sauce, and one bread OR vegetarian dish and a bread (Plain Naan, Garlic Naan, Tandoori roti)." Ok? We ended up splitting a Chicken Tikka masala and the cucumber appetizer (don't remember what it was called). He forgot to bring the cucumber app until we were done with the entree and we didn't realize it was a dip. We ended up taking that home. The last ten minutes of us eating our waiter was staring at us and clearly wanted us to wrap up. Again, I wouldn't come here close to 3:00 for lunch. That was a mistake. As far as the food, the Tikka masala could have used a tad more flavor (we asked for it mild but could have bumped that up a bit) and I didn't care for the cucumber appetizer. It was minty? and spicy. Overall I feel that House of Naan is better for New Haven Indian cuisine.

You walk in and you're immediately met with the smell of delicious cooking that will instantly get you excited for the meal that's about to come. I decided to have a strawberry lassi because I've never had one before, I normally always get a mango one, and I'm glad I did because it was delish! We kicked off with the lamb samosas and veggie platter and WOW what FLAVORS. Each bite was an experience, and so so tasty. My friend got the chicken biryani and I went with the chicken tikka masala and can I just say how impressed I was that our food stayed warm the whole entire time? Like it was still steaming as we packed it away, I was so impressed with that because there's nothing I hate more than lukewarm food being brought out to me. Regardless of that, my masala was incredible and I was sad I had to stop myself so I could save room for dessert. Because then I filled up on basically all of the cheese naan and it is some of the best I have ever had and if you're visiting New Haven and want authentic Indian food, this is the place to go.
