Food is average, but served quickly with cute robots. Tandoori chicken was brought sizzling and delicious. Other items were served warm, but lacked the flavor depth I was expecting. The 18% mandatory gratuity is crummy, considering our server was very snobby. Ambiance is nice and classy, great for a date night. read more

The service could def be improved but not terrible overall. 18% gratuity for two people ended up being $20 which was a bit over the top I felt like for below par service. Placed a takeout order for six people. They said the order would be done in 45 minutes. When I got to the restaurant, they said five more minutes please. I sat there for another 45 minutes!! When they brought the bag out it seemed kind of small so luckily I checked before I left and I was missing items. Had to wait around another 5-10 minutes for them to sort it out. People walking in the restaurant ahead of me to dine at the restaurant or served faster than I receive my takeout order that was placed in our Prior. read more

Glad we stopped in, the food was delicious! Ambiance was relaxing and exciting at the same time. I was undecided on what to order as watching plates go by. I got the Thai chicken curry. It was rich and delicious!! Chicken was soft and I got plenty of it . Service was very attentive. Place is big. I would definitely come back and try other dishes. I would recommend coming here for authentic food! read more

Enjoyed my lunch at Spice Rack Indian Fusion in Franklin Park, although I think an actual lunch sized menu would enhance the business model here. Their hybrid cuisine reflects the geopolitical realities of North Indian and Nepal, where hot spices overlap creating a delicious amalgam of curry and chili. The Chili Chicken (Dry), medium heat, was full of pepper, onion and chopped red chili, with lightly crisp deep red chunks of chicken. I added more traditional Indian fare with Veggie Samosa and Garlic Naan. Everything was tasty, even though the robot delivery was a momentary surprise. The dining room was modern and attractive with colored recessed lighting and redundant human service that followed the robot and moved the plates food from machine to table. Actually oddly humorous, because my response was to take the plate off the rolling tray myself, but realized the server was also standing there and reaching for the platter as I was. I deferred and let the guy do his job, despite the minor awkwardness. I am not sure why management adds an 18% gratuity directly to the bill for a solo customer, but I found it off putting, especially in the context of lacking a less expensive lunch menu that forces diners to spend more for the meal, and then denies the option of allowing them the freedom to chose the size of the tip. Perhaps that helps explain why there were so few people there on a Friday afternoon. Very good food. Some questionable business choices. 3.5 STARS read more

This place was packed on a Tuesday night and bustling with aromas that confirm you're in the right spot. Whether it's North Indian, Hakka or South Indian you will be delighted with the multitude of options. Paneer sizzler was fresh and well cooked. Lamb laal maas was delicious as was the goat curry. Tender with just the right amount of heat and masala. Railway chicken has a hint of coconut and curry leaves. Had a nice South Indian flavor. read more

I went to Spice Rack with a few colleagues after work, and they were able to accommodate our group on very short notice. The service was great, and all of the food came out perfect. Everyone had a fantastic time. I ordered the Chili Garlic Noodles (extra spicy), and they definitely were not kidding about the spice. It was packed with flavor and had the perfect kick. We also shared the Veg Manchurian Dry, and it did not disappoint. The texture was spot on, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Even those in our group who were not familiar with the dish absolutely loved it. Overall, we had an amazing experience, and every dish we tried was a hit. Highly recommend checking this place out. read more

First timer and went to this restaurant for dinner on a weekend . Crowdeddddd. Takes a while to get a table . There is a bar in front , if u want to time pass till u get a table . They have all fancy stuff like robots etc :) interiors is good . There is also a big hall at the back (party hall) and they extend it to regular visitors on weekends . We actually sat there for our food. To be Frank food was average . Issue is we have eaten in so many restaurants in and around oak tree and south Brunswick. Non veg items were actually very average here .. Veggie items were good. Paneer, fried rice , manchurian etc were goood. Lamb curry was good. Everything in chicken was very average . They gave something like a chick wings , which was ok ok. Overall a good experience but could have been better . Price was above average too: good luck read more

I need to come back here and try the non-veg food. I had the veg momos which were AMAZING. The portions for 2 were a lot and worth the price. We shared 3 dishes (rice, paneer dish, and garlic naan) The falooda for dessert was AMAZING. They had a special going on. The place is very clean and they have a robot that brings out your food. The food was served pretty fast too. I enjoyed it. Definitely do mild otherwise it's too spicy read more

The only reason why this place gets 3 is because of the SERVICE. it's difficult to get hold of the staff when you place a takeout or dine in. the food and taste is spot on - especially when ordered medium level spicy. All dishes are generally on the smaller scale for portions when splitting with family nonetheless I enjoyed trying different varieties. read more

Contrary to some of the reviews on this site (including those automatically moved to the not recommended section), I was pleasantly surprised by my time at Spice Rack with the parents on a busy Thursday night. By way of background, I don't really prefer going out to eat Indian food outside of South Indian cuisine (only because - we can cook it at home and/or we eat it out at parties). Yes, we've sometimes had the itch and ordered takeout from other nearby places, but we've somehow always passed on trying this place. With a vast number of Indian restaurants in the area, we finally came to the realization that it's probably a good idea to try this food out. No - not takeout, but the full dining experience. With so many Indian food options in the area, my main selling point for a place is whether it provides something different or provides something that's the best. With Spice Rack promoting fusion dining, this seemed to check off the "unique" criteria. First, all the ordering can the done with the magic of some fingers on your smartphone. With the help of a QR code, we can place the order thru our phones and pay for it without needing to interact with people. Funny enough, one of the elderly waiters was nice enough to volunteer to place our order, but was pleasantly surprised when I was able to do it before him. For some reason, my phone was giving me issues when navigating the website, but luckily my father's phone didn't have any issues. We ordered 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 3 mango lassis. When you order, you get a confirmation email with average wait times for menu items. Appetizers take around 10-15 mins and entrees 20-30 mins. The mango lassis came out pretty fast - within minutes. The two appetizers came out before 10 mins, which was surprising with such a busy crowd and some corporate events happening at the banquet facility. The best part - however - is that all the food comes out on a robot that is programmed to come directly to your table. From there, a waiter comes and serves you the food. I don't know about you, but we thought that was pretty cool. We ordered the crispy lotus & spring rolls. The presentation of both was very good and both items were super tasty. The honey defined the lotus, but it wasn't too overpowering. I was debating between this and the chili paneer. We got the entrees in 20 mins - the saag chana and lucknawi paneer along with 3 naans. The 3 naans were probably overkill (4 pieces in one order of naan), thus we ended up with about 3 leftover naan. They were very good though. We ordered the entrees with medium spice. Saag chana wasn't too spicy - the lucknawi paneer had a bit of a kick which provided for a nice contrast between both items. We probably would have survived with one entree too, but bringing leftovers home isn't a bad thing. All in all, we spent less than an hour here. Best part is not having to wait for a check or any of that as we paid online thru our phones. We'll probably come back at some point, but specifically just to try out the fusion/unique items. We probably stuck to more conventional items on the menu just to gauge the place, but the food itself was top notch quality. Yes - the place is pricey, after you add in 18% gratuity. However, you're at least getting your money's worth here. I recommend the try. read more

As my son heads off to college this year, I had always packed a homemade lunch for him when he was in H.S. It wasn't until his Junior year that I found out that he had been trading his lunch or asking for a taste from his Indian friends' lunches at school. Being the spicy boy that he is, nothing is ever hot enough for his palette. Indian food is one of his top favorite cuisines. As we place our order, the waiter ask how spicy we want the Salmon Masaledar. My son whips his head to look at me because he knows that I can't take too much heat. For him, I always give in. As I ask for the highest level, he smiles, satisfied with my answer. I'll just eat a lot of basmati rice to balance out the spice. This is our go to Indian place. We always enjoy the food here but the service can be very slow and is even slower when it's packed. This place is fusion and it confuses me because none of their dishes are part Chinese/Indian. The menu has Chinese dishes which I never order. My most favorite dish here is the Salmon Masaledar. The dish is cooked in curry leaves in an onion and tomato sauce. I love pouring the sauce over my basmati rice. The salmon is TENDER and almost makes me think, is this really salmon because I've never had it this tender before. Another one we enjoy is the Tandoori Chicken but my only complaint is that it's sometimes served quite dry. My son is the only one in the family that eats goat/lamb. He has had a few here and he loves it, especially the Goat Sukha. There are 14 different naans & rotis to choose from. We recently ordered the Bullet Naan which is stuffed with red chili pepper, cilantro and onion. Probably one of the spiciest naans I've ever had. I take 2-3 bites and hand it to my kid to finish and reach for a garlic naan instead. Best damn naan I've ever had, mom. If you've never had Indian cuisine before, the many different spices like cardamom, cayenne, tamarind, turmeric can overwhelm an unfamiliar palette. That was me a few years back. Now, I can say this is one of my favorite and I want to keep discovering more dishes as my tongue is excited to taste new spices. read more

Another classic Indian restaurant in the Kendall park area. Went here for my birthday and the ambience/decor is beautiful. We ordered: - Chicken Manchow Soup + Vegetable Manchow Soup: for the chicken Manchow soup, it had good amounts of chicken and had perfect thickness and flavor. - Lasooni Gobhi: very crunchy and spicy; the gobhi was perfectly cooked - Chilli Chicken Dry: chicken was also cooked well and was super tasty. The masala was also delicious - Kadhai Chicken: the chicken was more 'liquidy' than we expected and also wasn't that spicy. - Shrimp Laziz: didn't like the coconut chips inside of the dish but the actual gravy was delicious - Butter Naan/Butter Roti/Onion Kulcha Spice Rack has excellent appetizers and their main entrees are sometimes a hit or miss. Their quantity has also increased since the last time I came so the price was worth it. Overall, good place to come to celebrate for the ambience and food. Placed an order for pick up on a Sunday night- I arrived when they told me it would be ready but ended up waiting for 15 minutes -I do appreciate the reusable bags that they've been using for take out though! The naan was cold when I opened it up at home which was disappointing as I thought it'd be fresh. Besides that though, the food itself is pretty good! I've never had spicy scallops before so the gunpowder scallops were delicious and portion size is decent for the price. Chicken 65 was also spicy and cooked to the perfect texture. When anyone asks me for an Indian restaurant recommendation, Spice Rack is the first name that effortlessly pops out of my mouth. I don't know how I've neglected to review my go to Indian spot for so long! My family and I been coming to Spice Rack since it's golden days back in the small hole in the wall, (yet still well adorned!) plaza days. The fact that they moved to a much larger, newer plaza is a testament to how successful this restaurant has been. Righteously so. The food is consistently delicious. If you read my other reviews on Indian restaurants, you quickly find know that I'm the pickiest when it comes to this cuisine. Spice Rack has highly flavorful dishes (as Indian cuisine should be!), and they actually fulfill Indian spice levels! The appetizers are tasty, although I do wish there were a few more to choose from on the the menu like papdi chaat, pani puris, etc. The Crispy Chili Baby Corn is a must have! Tried this for the first time last night, and we savored every.single.bite. The paneer makhani ALWAYS hits the spot... so delectable that it's pretty much impossible to get me to try another entree. As long as this shaak stays this quality, I will always come back for more! read more

This will be brief...... This was some excellent dishes served in a cool, airy, minimalist venue where just the exotic aromas upon entering promised a pleasurable evening...... But all the blending of spices, the excellent menu innovations, the Chef's expertise, the kitchen's staff hard work was dashed by some of the most unprofessional service I have ever experienced in a very long while. A hovering wait staff, clearing dishes before we even had a opportunity to sop up the wonderfully savory sauce that bathed the scallops with our garlic naan. One after another attempting to clear our plates even with my fork still holding their tender lamb.6 times by my count inquiries were made on if we were finished and hurried reach overs to clear dishes and glasses. A inquiry on if we were having dessert and the check arrived not 30 seconds later......I would have had a private conversation with management but was a guest of some friends that was so excited to have us dine in a restaurant that they loved I did not want to embarrass them. Then to add insult to injury the manager asked us to vacate the table because he had 2 other parties waiting even when I spent the past 90 minutes staring at 2 empty booths and wondering if their parties were ultimately ...lost. I would love to return to sample more from their menu but as Danny Meyer ( look him up) once said "There are many restaurants that can serve you a fantastic meal but ultimately what you remember is the service"....... And I'll remember this night for a very long time. Their lack of professionalism is well documented both on Yelp and elsewhere but still persists perhaps because it is tolerated or even expected by their overwhelmingly South Asian customers. Sadly, we will not be back and I cannot recommend Spice Rack. read more

The food is always good here. Problem is you are expected to order and pay immediately on your phone, most places allow you to pay at the end. When you have a large group 10+, you're spending more time trying to place an order than enjoying your meals with your party. Meanwhile, waiters are standing around staring at you. Three times we had to get up and go to the front to place our order because there was errors on their site. We would have ordered more drinks spending more money, but the pain in placing was unbelievable and then having the wrong order delivered each time to boot. We looked around at so many older customers who don't know how to use a smartphone baffled that this is the system now asking waiters to help. No waiter comes around to see if everything is ok, this is not good when you have an 18% gratuity built in. Be aware their site try's to add in extra tip on top of the 18% based on the order total. How are you expected to tip if the service hasn't been rendered first? Go back to the way you had it. read more

We went to spice rack on a Sunday at about 1:30 PM. It's a huge restaurant in Franklin Park. There were only 3-4 tables filled and we easily got a table. The ambience is average. The portion sizes are huge! We ordered a mix of Indo-Chinese and Mughlai food. All Indian main courses are accompanied with steamed rice Lasooni Gobhi: this is probably our favourite starter. Deep fried cauliflower in Schezwan sauce. The garlic and onions make is spicy. Machurian Dry: this is another Indo-Chinese starter. The machurian balls are assorted vegetable round cutlets that are deep fried. It is then cooked in soy sauce and other chili sauce. It's topped with spring onions and fried garlic for a strong taste. Assorted Pakoras: A combination of onion, chilies and onion pakoras, this platter is for all pakora lovers. Pakoras are raw vegetables coated in gram flour and deep fried. They are served with chutney. At Spice Rack, they are served with green chutney (cilantro and mint). The chilies were hot. I love spicy food and adored the mirchi pakoras! Garlic naan and plain roti (bread): regular naan topped with a dollop of butter, it was well cooked. Neither too crisp nor soft Paneer butter masala: we were disappointed with our Paneer butter masala. The gravy was a little sour. Maybe the tomatoes were more or the flavour was missing, we did not like this vegetable. We told our server that the gravy was quite sour. He took it back and probably just added a lot of cream to it. The taste was pretty average Awadhi vegetable: this was definitely better than the paneer. We wanted so different vegetable gravies. This comes in the brown gravy and not red. Filled with long leans, peas, potatoes, onions and peppers, the gravy was again extremely creamy. I'm not a big fan of cream in vegetables and so liked it but couldn't eat it much Shahi Dal Tadka: Dal Tadka is great. The lentils are Well cooked. You could feel it was freshly made. The Tadka of all spices and onions blends well. Neither too spicy nor bland, even the kids enjoyed it! read more

Folks, picture this.... You go for a birthday party dinner with 30 people to a restaurant at 7 pm. You call the restaurant ahead at 5 PM and place the order such that the food is ready near the 7 pm mark. You get to the restaurant and get seated and basically wait and wait and wait until the food comes at 9:30 pm. This is what happened at Spice Rack this weekend. Then to top it off , the restaurant's owners called the police when our part simply refused to pay an almost 20% gratuity charge. This exact thing happened with two parties on this same night within an hour or one another. Additionally the majority of the other restaurant Patrons were just frustrated with their own delayed dining issues. Crazy! While, admittedly the food was good, the simple lack of service and requisite lack of courtesy of the restaurant owners makes me never want to revisit this place. For the high prices they charge for food and liquor, you should expect some level of maturity and decency as it comes to managing the processes when such issues persist or if staff is limited. Terrible service. Subpar food. Do not waste your time or money. Came here on a Friday night with a reservation for 7:30. We were informed that reserved tables are held for 15 minutes before and after the reservation time so we were expecting to be promptly seated when we arrived at 7:32. Instead we had to wait 25 minutes before being seated. Strike 1. We ordered the crispy lotus root, fusion bhel, dry manchurian, and hara bhara kabab for our appetizers. Lotus root and hara bhara kabab were mediocre but nothing special. Fusion bhel was super sweet. Manchurian was undercooked/raw in the middle. The quantities served were laughable. 3 pieces of the kebab and 4 of the manchurian. Strike 2. We ordered our main course shortly after the apps and waited 30 minutes before checking in with the host when nothing arrived. He informed us that this wait time was typical. Not sure how that is really acceptable. The host never returned to give an update. Another 15 minutes go by and our party is trying to gain the attention of staff who are no where to be seen. Finally, someone comes to change our dishes. We are hopeful that our meal is coming. Sadly, it was not. We waited over an hour before the food came out. Strike 3. Our mains included sham savera, paneer makhni, naan, and triple schezwan. Taking over an hour to prepare, we were expecting quality food. We obviously expected too much. The curries were super sweet. What was the point in asking us how spicy we wanted our food if it was going to be sweet anyway. The gravies were also the same. Felt like deja vu trying the sham savera after the makhni. Cherry on top was that the naan was cold. Over an hour of waiting, and the naan was cold. Strike 4. The service was so slow, no one was taking accountability, and on top of that they charge 18% gratuity for dining in (which in all fairness was disclosed at the entrance). Nonetheless, it felt as if this restaurant thought they could get away with poor service since they had already secured an 18% gratuity for all dine in customers. Not cool. I can't remember that last time I had such a bad experience dining out. Will never go back and would not recommend. read more

The food tastes good but the take-out experience isn't great. The app says one time yet when you arrive it ends up being an extra 30-40mins. Worst! Worst!! Worst!!! Visit here if you want to waste your hard earned money for zero quality, zero taste, zero nutrition.... Simple vegeterian entree tasted stale. Chicken curry had a no taste at all and came in gallon of oil. Appetizers had weird after taste. Jeera rice which came with entree had a cup of oil and looked shiny even in their pink-red light B-grade ambience that looks like a cheap disco bar. They might be making the tomato-onion gravy with throw-away ingredients and use it for like a month or so in all that they could. Our neighbors too complained about quality of food and asked for replacement. Nobody looked happy there. We do not like wasting food but had no choice but leave food on table. The owner lady saw that and asked us in Hindi showing off the fake concern as if she cared. We told her food tasted very bad and she shamelessly walked away. Their restaurant runs on bar and they hardly care for serving decent food to customers. They do not forget to add 18% gratuity on a family of 2+1kid....such a rip-off!!!!
