Food and service is top notch. Highly recommend the restaurant for some yummy Indian fusion food. Drinks : BYOB Appetizers : we tried a lot of it and everything was good. My personal favorite was the chilly chicken and the achari salmon. Paneer shaslick, veg pakoras & gobi fry are recommended. Entrees : Highly recommend the chilly garlic fried rice with the Tibetan lamb. They have a variety of naans and Indian bread. Dessert : Malai kulfi, rasmalai and the cassata were all good. Service: Nitin and Aunty are great hosts. The restaurant was really busy but they took care of all guests. Personalized service is always a winner. Price : Reasonably priced for such good food & service. Don't miss Spice Rack if you are in the area. read more

We've ordered from Spice rack hundreds of times, it used to be our favorite spot. I don't know what changed in 2023, but they're just not good now. They charge nearly $20 for most entrees, but sometimes it's worse than getting Indian food from an American grocery store buffet. And I don't know when they changed their naan to this pita bread mushy garbage, but it's unacceptable. Sad to say that after many thousands of dollars spent over the years, my family is done with this place. I'd be thrilled to change this review if they go back to their original quality. read more

Spice Rack - This is their "naan" now, it's disguising my kids won't even touch it. - Indian Near Me - Franklin Park, New Jersey

Important Tip: If you plan to order masala papadam, then ensure to let the server know not to add green chilies. The masala papadam comes with extremely hot green chilly even though they do not mention it on the ingredients list on the menu. They now have a liquor license of their own so no BYOB anymore. Food: Their Manchow soup is something I would not recommended. I could taste overpowering soya sauce. The taste was very different and not something like the regular manchow soup. I loved their Sham Savera vegetable entree which consist of spinach balls stuffed with a bit of cheese in a red tomato gravy. Their Awadhi entree was delightful. Their pesto cilantro Nan-bread is one of a kind. However, I would not recommend having it with curries; just too overpowering take of the pesto along with Curry didn't taste that well. Desert: Gulab Jamun with vanilla icecream is a great combination for a desert. Date pancake was very different and highly recommended if you like dates and fig. read more

Don't understand the lower reviews, this was by far the BEST experience we have had in the area. Karan, our server, was patient and helped us decide the best options from a large menu. True, we came during a quiet time, but the food was presented well, the flavors outstanding, and the spices just right. Clean, elegant, great selection. We can't wait to come back and try other offerings. Unique options, well-prepared, priced right, with attentive service. We drove all the way from Princeton because of Mita, our banker's glowing recommendation, and she was right! It is worth the trip. read more

Disappointing! I was looking so forward to trying this restaurant for months, but unfortunately majority of the food was not up to par. Recommend: Lasooni Gobi, Hot n Sour Soup Do not recommend: Fried Okra, Chicken Tikka, Paneer Shashlik The chicken and paneer were on the dry side and very bland - considering their name, I'd expect a little more especially for these popular dishes! On a brighter note, the service was good as well as the interior, lounge-look. read more

Went in last night. menu is impressive. The food meets expectations. As a customer i Would recommend you stay with one Cusine. If you are going for Punjabi then order all Punjabi items. Do not mix and match. There used to be a friendly lady who stopped at all tables and enquired about the food. She was missing yesterday. She gave a personal touch. So took away 1 star (not fair from my side - they deserve 5stars) Many Indian restaurant add gratuity to bill but provide no service. This place is different. They do add gratuity but provide service. Ample parking. Would definitely recommend. read more

Horrible service! No one tells you that you have to order online from your table. No one comes to ask you if you need a drink or to explain that you actually need to order and PAY for your food and tip to submit the order. How are you asked to tip before even interacting with a human? Ordered lamb chops for$20 and got 3 piece 2 of which were straight up bone. Left without eating. To give them credit, manager called me after to apologize which I respect. I am hoping this was a one off night for them. read more

The food taste good. The service and the ambiance is also great. Tried the Romali Roti.. very rare item in the menu in NJ..

I went out in search of a taco or burrito but my yelp app went a bit goofy so I just drove up Rt27 and picked a place based on the sign out front. I landed at Spice Rack a very lucky break. It's a really nice place for a strip mall, lovely decor great for a date. It was empty at lunch time but I was commuted as soon as I walked in so I stayed. Good thing I did because the place was fantastic. The lunch menu is simplified and very clear description helps the novice Indian food fan. The staff is wonderful very pleasant and truly geared towards hospitality. My corn soup came out hot, it was terrific tasty and hot. My spicy curry chicken was outstanding. The portion was fulfilling and also served hot and the spice level was also perfect. I highly recommend trying this restaurant. Lunch was terrific and was $10 bucks I was amazed how little this excellent meal cost. read more

You guyz just lost a repeat customer forever. We won't visit this place anymore as they absolutely ruined our date night dinner today. Service was pathetic and food was overly salty. In addition, my order never arrived on the table even after my hubby finished his half an hour ago. We finally decided to just pack it as a to go as it didn't arrive till 9:30 pm. Regret coming here and ruining my evening with zero apology from the front desk. read more

Went here for lunch from work. Unlike typical Indian restaurants, this place does not have a buffet. You have to order from the menu. What is the problem with that? It's not a place to go for a quick lunch. The food did come out smelling really good, hot and seemed freshly cooked. While the entree, Malvani Chicken, was made just as it was described in the menu; it didn't quiet do it for me. This is the reason for 4*. I do love the variety offered in the menu and I believe the other curries should be well made. I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu. The decor is exceptional for an Indian restaurant. They have really spruced up this place. It can be really nice place to go on a date. read more

After JUST spending $400 at the restaurant for a dinner, we left and called because my 7 year old forgot her smart watch there. The manager, Nitin, was so rude, angry and disrespectful to my call to see if they found it. He wouldn't let me finish my sentence, demanded I correct my sentence of "could you ask your staff who cleaned up the table..." and kept saying "you do not ask me, you request it." Yes, I'm requesting you to ask the staff if they found it. Especially since I drove 1 hour to come eat there and was half way home and was about to turn around s. He was on such a power trip. It was such a simple incident; I wasn't yelling, I wasn't upset - especially since it wasn't even their fault, but the power trip and ignorance was extremely inappropriate. I should add he did say 10 mins after I left when I called, they may have thrown it away! read more

I'd been to their older location almost a year back, decided to give the new location a try. The two of us reached a little after 9 PM on Saturday night and had to wait for around 30 mins. We were feeling a little adventurous and ordered some items we normally wouldn't order. Started off with the Steamed Chicken Momos, Crispy Lotus (root), Gunpowder Scallops, Chicken Sweet Corn Soup and a Fresh Lime Soda. The momos (similar to dumplings) were nice, especially the hot sauce that came with it. The lotus root was crispy and could have been tasty if it had not been doused in an extremely sweet honey sauce. The gunpowder scallops were nothing like their description and a disaster. Soggy, soft scallops in an over spiced sauce - we asked to return it. They were kind enough to offer a replacement (but we'd rather have not ordered anything else at that point). We ordered the Dry Chili Chicken. The sweet corn chicken soup was inedible - had once and didn't go back to it. Weird broth, lukewarm, seemed like someone had heated up some instant soup mix in a hurry and added barely warm water. Should've said something about it but we just asked them to clear the table. The fresh lime soda was refreshing, only negative was that it had a yellow hue and that wasn't very appealing visually. Excellent taste otherwise. Next we ordered the Chili Garlic Fried Rice with chicken and Taipei Prawn (shrimp) - safe bets that would be quite hard to mess up. The chili garlic fried rice was really good, definitely what Indo-Chinese should be. Taipei prawn and dry chili chicken seemed like similar dishes from their description, but they were distinct in their flavor and taste. The prawn was the best dish of the night, the chicken a close third after the fried rice. The staff was friendly but overworked. Multiple people attended to us, which means that we asked one person to get two boxes for us and another person came back with one box and ultimately just ended up wasting more time. I would give them 3.5 stars overall, so I'll round it off to the lower integer because two dishes were inedible, one was barely okay and I don't see a reason to drive all they way here for a 50% success rate. Maybe, just maybe I'll try their North Indian fare on a takeout day, but it'll be a while before that happens. read more

Slow service so giving this place 3.5 stars... I've been to the old Spice Rack location and had fell in love with their indo-chinese entrees. I revisited recently with family and found the service to be very slow and vegetarian entrees and appetizers to be quite small. Also ,servers take forever to come to your table and it takes a while for the food to be brought out. Besides that, the food is tasty, some entrees better than others. read more

Central NJ is to Indian restaurants like Hoboken used to be to neighborhood bars, before it got gentrified. But too many have mediocre reviews. (Yelp says three stars is A-Okay, but I beg to disagree). For a nice, and rare, mom and daughter dinner, I wanted to try a new one. Because of the mostly great Yelp reviews and it being close by, we picked Spice Rack. I never expected to have to wait 30 minutes for a table on a Wednesday night at 8:30; (yes, I know Indians tend to eat later than the 6:00 sharp "supper" crowd), but I thought it must be a good sign for a place that is quite spacious. And it was that good. The owner, Nitin, was very friendly and helpful. The decor is upscale, with modern, colorful pendant lighting over the tables, and a stunning art glass fixture in the tray ceiling surrounded by colored lighting. Cricket, not Bollywood, was playing on the TVs near the entrance. There was soothing New Age music, which we heard only when the boisterous big table behind us mercifully left, shortly before we did. (Another big table right next to us was talking, but they were quiet. Why do some people think that a restaurant is their personal space??) The menu is an eclectic mix of Asian - Indian, of course, with some Chinese and Thai to round out the fusion menu. We came for the Indian food, so we ordered a Spinach and [paneer] Cheese Naan, and for our mains, Spice Rack Chicken and Baigan Bhurta. Both dishes were superb. We asked for medium heat; just know that this is Indian medium, a wee bit too spicy for me, but not for my daughter. I loved both dishes despite that. Our food was accompanied by rice, but it looked like ordinary basmati rice, not the pilaf stated on the menu. When Nitin passed by, I mentioned this and he said he'd check on it. He returned with a really unique pilaf, with peas and fried onions, and we were in heaven. And he said that because he recognized that it was our first time there (since I had asked about wifi and their unusual way of signing up for a table), he'd bring us something special at the end. And the end really was special. He asked if we'd like to choose a dessert, or leave it up to him. We were surprised and delighted with a picture-perfect dish of what I think was the cassata: a slice of three flavors of ice cream along with a scoop of tutti-frutti ice cream, that actually tasted as good as it looked. And then that was followed with a dish of plump and sweet gulab jamun. Our dinner was a Dionysian feast. My daughter's birthday is in a couple of weeks, and she wants to come back here to celebrate it. I sure won't quibble with that. read more

Went back after 4 years expecting thing to change and improve. Same bland food, slow as hell service and arrongant manager....

It's a good Indian restaurant to try if you're in the area. They have variety of options, the food is great.

Here are full details of my dining experience which FYI is one of the WORST experiences I've had. It was my wife's birthday so we decided to check this place out for dinner. We had to wait about 15 minutes to get a table. Once seated, we literally told 3 people to take our order and finally after 25 minutes some aunty who was very slow took our order. She was the only person taking orders on a saturday night when the restaurant is packed with a 30 minute wait period. We finally got some food coming to our table after about 30 minutes of ordering. Drinks were absolute trash. I could make better drinks at home. Then we got Tandoori mixed grill platter for apps. The chicken and lamb was super dry. After eating about 3 pieces, me and wife had a really bad stomachache. This dish was served on one of those sizzling skillets. We carefully looked at the skillet and you could clearly tell it wasn't cleaned from the previous orders. There was this burnt black stuff all over the corners and middle. So we decided to get our main course to go. We told the waiter to pack our main course and they brought it to our table instead and we had to pack it ourselves in foam containers and foil. We brought this to the managers attention and he did not care at all. He sent the bill to our table. We told our waiter about the situation again he took the bill and my credit card to the manager. I thought they were gonna give a discount or take the platter off the bill but ofcourse he comes back with full bill charged to the card. They didn't care AT ALL, literally the WORST customer service we have experienced. The manager completely ignored us on our way out. They ruined a special night. I would've given them tons of business but never again I will talk about this place. They don't deserve to stay open. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! read more

worst service and attitude. we ordered an entree sham savera and there was a rubber and metal earring post. the owner had no regrets and said she would take the charge off but would not accommodate any other discount except that she offered dessert. what if a child swallowed the item. please avoid this place!! read more

This restaurant deserves less than one star. The most terrible customer service I've ever experienced in my life. The owner/manager, Nitin, was extremely rude and does not care for customer's concerns. Instead of helping he argues back pompously, arrogantly and rudely. I am extremely disappointed in his character and this restaurant. Never returning to this restaurant and I do not suggest this place to any. Nitin, I could give you a more detailed review. Upon arriving at your establishment I waited for a waiter/waitress for over 20 min, patiently and did not complain. My food took over 45 min to be served and when it was it was cold. I mentioned this to the waiter who said he would speak to the manager and did not return until I found him myself and then asked for a manager. You, Nitin, did not care for my concerns and did not offer a resolution to the issue. You didn't even offer to warm up the food. I left my money on the table and the food where it was and walked out. Again, I do not know who you are referring to or what you are referring to, but the fact that you feel the need to compare me to your other unhappy customers really shows your maturity level and how many unhappy customers you really have. First I suggest you stop taking your frustrations out on this couple who you clearly had a prior disagreement with. I also suggest you take some time off from your restaurant to seek behavioral therapy. Your paranoia is real and your inability to accept that maybe you are issue is astonishing. I am saying this with the utmost concern for your and your establishments well being. Take care and take some mental health days. I am done having this argument with you. It's a review. Work on your attitude or leave the food industry. read more

This new location is definitely a big improvement from where it once was. They really tried to modernize it and made it look really nice and open. But also the space has a nice feel for a good dinner either with the family or for a date. Plus the food here was excellent both time we have came to this location the food has had great flavor and color. You can tell a lot my color with Indian food and it definitely has it. The spices they use look fresh and taste great. When we went we got the paneer makni, the chicken Manchurian, and Chicken Mughlai with some garlic naan and regular butter naan. All of our food was excellent the flavors were great. The spice levers were just right because I normally can't eat spicy but this was good and tasty. It's where my mouth burns but it's a good burn not a let me chug water while eating. But the one thing that would get a negative is that the service is not the best. At night when we went once we felt rushed and then this time we felt we were barley taken care of. It took quiet sometime to get our food as well. Maybe it's a time thing I'm not sure but it fluctuates a bit to much. Hopefully you find a good time because the food is delicious and throughly enjoyable. read more

This place used to be amazing. We even ordered take out several times a month during covid. Went back recently to dine in. We have no problem adding 20%+ gratuity BUT now they have a REQUIRED 18% dine in fee in addition to the gratuity. so now because I want to dine in i basically have to pay 40% on top of the bill. sorry not sorry but this is not a Michelin dining experience and even if it was 40% on top of your bill is robbery while giving the middle finger to your customers. On top of that, the waiters don't take your order, they come by to tell you to order on your phone and then robots come and drop off your food. So I'm serving myself and who is my gratuity going to? I'll take my business to the other Indian restaurants in the area. read more

I have been to this place since it started in a smaller place near the existing one back in 2015 /16. I used to love the food, the courteous customer service and felt like home especially the way aunty used to take order. Recently i had a not so good experience with the owner and thankfully aunty was there to make things better. Just because you use technology, have grown big and better, don't lose your core values of customer service. When people come to a place, they take the experience with them and that stays forever. Wish the best to aunty for making the place like home. read more

It all started with us calling in for a reservation. They told us there is availability and we did not need to reserve. We land there with a party off 12 people and are made to wait 20 minutes. We then find mettalic Wire in our food (see pictures). Also, there was Fried Hair in our rice. Came here to celebrate our 50th Birthdays. The Service sucks, food takes a lot of time to come. There is no proper wait staff and ones that are there are rude as they have no time to speak to you. The waiters hand you all the plates, cutlery, napkins and then I was supposed to distribute them to everyone on the table. We ordered Roomali Roti and it was like a big chapatti. To begin with, the restaurant charges 18% service gratuity for dine-in. Appears to be a charge to cover cost of the few robotic servers (machines) that bring food to your table. We ordered chilly chicken and shrimp Taipei for appetizers, baingan bharta and tadka dal as the entree. Chilly chicken was tough and chewy. It seemed to have been fried many times over right before serving to appear fresh. The shrimp Taipei order came with barely 4 shrimps and not worth the cost. Baingan bharta had hardly any flavor of egg plant, mostly a tomato/onion paste. A simple dish like 'Dal tadka' also turned out to be mediocre. Overall, a disappointment and a huge waste of money. read more

The food was decent. We ordered paneer Sabji and bhendi masala - both of which were good. We had asked for paneer sabji to be spicy which was a good call. The chapathi was good while the naan was okayish. We had ordered chili garlic fried rice, schezwan noodles and manchurian. Manchurian and the fried rice were good while the noodles order was prepared completely wrong. It was not schezwan. We notified the restaurant about the incorrect order and they asked us to mention about it next time we order so they can rectify it, on informing them the second time about the wrong order they flipped, said we don't have any records of it. This could have been 4 star, just because of the restaurant staff lying/ignoring that they would rectify the order I am giving them 3 stars. read more

Not worth your money. There are many good restaurants in the surrounding. Please go elsewhere rather than spending your hard earned money for poor quality food and arrogant staff. You will get better service elsewhere. As you pay your money well in advance before you get the food, you can't question the bland and stale food they deliver or their poor service. I should have got a refund for inedible food that I received and I was charged for. Unfortunately got nothing back except rude attitude from the staff. Please stay away from this place. Editing the response for owner feedback now. I didn't even get parathas. I got chicken fried rice which was stale bland and inedible. I have order number and other details if you need them. Please be respectful to customers. Don't be arrogant. Customer satisfaction is very important. Your staff was rude and arrogant saying kitchen is closed and can't do anything. At least you should refund the money for that item. I didn't even eat the fried rice and asked your staff to throw it in trash as it was inedible. Your restaurant used to be good. Not anymore. Let me tell you - this place has very good food, no doubt about it. Options on the menu offer something for everyone. But.. and there is always one, service needs lots of improvement in multiple areas, the host needs to be courteous and treat customers with respect. The seating arrangement is not effective, even with such a large dining area - all patrons are standing around the entrance and not seated quickly. The table for twos is not arranged in a good location just tucked in anywhere there is space in a restaurant. The host needs to consider people come to the restaurant to have a good time and not be tucked away in the corner. Just because more people with large parties are coming in that does not mean it will continue if customers are not treated well, hopefully this restaurant does not follow the same suite of many other restaurants in the area which gets closed for not treating customers properly. I would hope after reading this review, the restaurant improves seating arrangement and service towards customers. read more

Stay away unless you want subpar service for a high end price.
