Yummy and authentic! A restaurant only available at the resort, Spice is an Asian themed restaurant that will satisfy any oriental craving.
Their menu is on the smaller side compared to most of the other restaurants, but choose from an assorts of Japanese sushi, Thai food, hibachi grilled, curry dishes and more! All portions are large.
We started off with their sushi, each dish comes with six pieces and a small helping of wasabi and ginger. Get them all, each roll was fresh and light. I wasn't sure how sushi would go down in Mexico but it was very tasty! Want to try more than one sushi? For larger groups they will bring out sushi platters that have all the sushi appetizers to try. The more the merrier they say!
Want sake? They have it! Just be aware it'll be charged to your room or at the table. Prices range from $35 to $130 for sake. They also have a larger wine menu, we got a bottle of the Malbec, it was not included and we were charged but nice to go outside the Cabernet and Merlot boat.
What I like about this menu is it goes from fancy to traditional. We went as a group of six and the table was split from picky eaters to those of us who will try anything. Luckily everyone had options to try something they were comfortable with. We ate the chicken pad Thai, chicken fried rice, New York teriyaki and the yaki udon.
The pad Thai was a home run! They used a sweet and sour sauce that dressed each noodle and the sautéed vegetables. It came with a mild amount of peanuts and had a large amount of small slices of chicken. Very tasty!
The fried rice is super good, it was the favorite from our picky eaters side of the table. It was light and fresh and didn't initiate the bloating cycle which is nice for us in bathing suites the next day LOL.
The new York teriyaki had plenty of tender and well cooked steak bites. The yaki udon has lots of sauce and seemed very safe to eat. None of us suffered from indigestion later that night so each dish is safe to try!!
It doesn't stop there, you have to get dessert. Their menu is tough, all the options are delicious! I'd highly recommend the friend tempura Ice cream. Deep fried vanilla ice cream that comes drizzled with chocolate, strawberry or honey sauce. It's warm and cozy meets sweet and savory. Others from our table tried the coconut flan, was super delicate and light and had little to no flavor. Just get the ice cream, you won't be sorry!!
For birthdays or special requests, you can do a hibachi dinner! Taken to a isolated part of the restaurant, you are separated by walls and have your own private area. The chefs will make fun dishes, will make animal shapes with rice and carrots and are very interactive! The groups were singing, cheering and even getting a fire show! Sounded like lots of fun!
IMPORTANT! There is a dress code. Men must wear a nice shirt and long pants, no shorts or flip flops. Women can't wear tank tops and no bathing suites allowed.
Overall, great place to try that accommodates picky and non picky eaters. Would add it to your list of dinner places to go at the Excellence Riveria! read more
