Tonkatsu Ramen

This was sort of an average bowl of ramen. The noodles were a bit too firm for my preference. The broth was savory but not wonderfully complex. The pork was decent but not of exceptional execution. Same with the egg. The guy who runs this shop is cool and I appreciate what he's trying to do. Making great ramen is extremely difficult with Quintana Roo ingredients.

The best ramen I had in Mexico visiting Guadalajara, Tulum, Mexico City and here; the staff and chef is actually Japanese and it's an open kitchen. The ramen was great! It's probably only 1 level below an ippudo but even better than some small town USA ramen places. The spicy ramen is the best one; fried chicken is good but the white meat is not as soft as the dark meat

Chicken Karaage

This place is exceptional. The ramen and sides were delicious, and the prices were very reasonable. The staff were friendly and welcoming to everyone. The chicken karaage had a wonderfully crisp exterior with excellent seasoning and dipping sauce. The takoyaki was soft with very fresh octopus filling and delicious sauce and bonito flakes on the outside. The ramen was excellent with my habanero broth giving a nice spicy bite with a rich pork background. My wife's shouyu had a mellower and slightly sweet flavor and a tasty marinated soft boiled egg. We've eaten ramen in many cities across Japan and the United States. This is tasty ramen with delicious and fresh tasting sides to match. You won't regret your visit.

Perfectly cooked gyoza. Amazing!

Everything was delicious!!!!! Was feeling a little chill and looked up a ramen place. Lo and behold we found this hidden gem. Very simple but everything is amazing! There are 4 type of ramen and 4 appetizers. We had 3 of the 4 appetizers and the shouyu ramen. Great staff and awesome food. I am no Ramen connoisseur by any means but immune belly loves it, Would recommend.

We stumbled upon this hidden Japanese gem because I was craving a hot bowl of ramen to soothe my tummy. (Soup is definitely my comfort food.) They opened six months ago but due to Covid-19, business has been slow. I'm so happy I was able to eat here. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and Karaage and it definitely satisfied my craving. It is ran by two guys, and they were so accommodating and courteous. If you want authentic Japanese ramen in Playa Del Carmen, consider this quaint, little spot! Arrigato to the owners!

The plaza in PDC is the spot for late night strolls, vendor markets and delicious grab n' go marquesitas! However, if you peer past the hoopla down Calle 8 near the part of the plaza facing Walmart, you'll notice a small, swanky Ramen place with Japanese hip hop playing from a speaker outside. The restaurant is nestled in a small shopping row by D-Pilates and Das Brot. Seemingly ordinary from the outside, this place certainly took us by surprise. Why? Let's get straight to the point... Atmosphere - Upon entering, we were greeted very warmly by the owner and his co-partner. Seating is inside with clean tables and socially distanced layout. Japanese comic books align shelves on the walls and cool Japanese music videos play on the TV. Relaxed and jazzy vibe. Totally dug it. Rating 5/5 Service - The owner and his co-partner were very attentive, answered all questions we had and communicated with us in Spanish and English as much as possible. They accommodated us with modifying orders with different meats and made sure our teas were constantly refilled. Friendly and extremely kind, this really made for a wonderful visit. Rating 5/5 Food - One word: AUTHENTIC. If you know food in PDC, then you know real food when you have it here and that's what makes Sakura Ramen great... Delicious, hot and savory dishes prepared fresh. They offer a simple menu with everything cooked right in front of you. We were craving hot ramen to soothe the tummy blues and this definitely delivered! The Karaage was also quite amazing. The chicken was juicy and crispy - perfectly complimenting our other dishes. We enjoyed cups of hot roasted tea to accompany our meal which was also very good. Rating 5/5 Overall, this experience was wonderfully satisfying. (It's the reason we have now visited Sakura Ramen twice.) The food and service are really impressive. The prices are quite reasonable. Highly recommend!

The owner of this place is so bubbly and nice! He was the only one working at the time but we was able to manage the restaurant well all by himself. We tried the first two items on the menu ( traditional and spicy) and they were both delicious! We also tried the gyoza and had the soy ice cream for dessert. A true authentic Japanese gem. We we'll definitely come back when we are back in playa.

The spicy pork bone broth soup was delicious. Sorry I digged in first

Thus was my last night in Playa Del Carmen. It's a bit hard to find as it's near the Centro plaza where there is a Friday night market. I parked in the street. The ramen is limited to Chicken Broth Shoyu, Tonkatsu and Spicy Tonkatsu. It was delicious. The bowls look a tad bit small but the portion size is perfect. The flavor is authentic and really delicious. I doubt you will find a better experience. The Karaage chicken with rice is wonderful for my 7 year old. She gave thumbs up. The space is smaller but very spacious. The bathroom is clean. Highly recommend and the prices are very reasonable.

When in Mexico .... Eat Ramen? .... YES! my husband and I tried this place on a whim since we wanted a break from all the great Mexican food. This is a small AUTHENTIC ramen spot. The noodles were FRESH, the broth had an amazing flavor and the service was awesome. My husband and I both had an appetizer, and a ramen each plus 2 cokes and it was about $30 American dollars WORTH IT!

Very easy to find and a comfortable setting. The ramen wasn't bad and has a very strong beef flavor. I think there could be more depth in the broth. The dumplings were yummy and the karage was what you expected. You can sit at a table or the bar and you can watch them make your food. I think the owners also spoke Japanese and was fun and entertaining to be around

We've also eaten at many places in LA, which is known for having some of the best Korean food. We saw this place had pretty solid reviews, especially on Google, and even saw comments from people claiming they were Korean and from LA saying this place rivaled KBBQ spots there. Because of that, we came in with really high expectations. Unfortunately, we left disappointed. The restaurant is located upstairs, and the elevator ride alone almost made us turn around. It was extremely shaky and honestly felt unsafe at times. There were moments we thought it might actually drop. I would definitely recommend taking the stairs instead. We ordered the mixed combo with beef, chicken, and pork, along with soybean soup and steamed egg. The banchan selection was limited and overall the flavors were pretty underwhelming. The biggest issue though was the meat quality. Most of the meats were chewy, including the pork belly, which should have been much more tender because of the fat content. One thing we've noticed in Mexico compared to the US is that the meat quality in general often isn't quite the same, and this place really highlighted that for us. Honestly, Gen BBQ back in California is much better than this spot. I understand some people love this place because they cook over charcoal, but the cooking process took forever. Each meat took a long time to cook, and they had to replace the coals multiple times during the meal. The one thing that really stood out in a positive way was the steamed egg. It was honestly one of the best steamed eggs we've had. Super fluffy, airy, and cooked perfectly. If you're someone who really loves Korean food or Korean BBQ, I personally wouldn't recommend going out of your way for this place. There are much better options out there worth spending your money on.

This place did not disappoint! I'm from San Diego and we have a lot of authentic ramen, but this place def did a great job to keep the authenticity. Not to mention the value for all the food we got! Worth it compared to the prices we get back at home. They also decorated it really cute, but it was a bit hard to find because the sign is small. But just look for ROOSTER cafe because it's to the right of it. For food we ordered shrimp Gyozas, shumai, chicken karagge, and tempura shrimp baos. My fav was the gyoza hands down, shumai next and then the baos. I thought the chicken karage were like the Japanese style ones but they're actually just wings! Still tasty though. We also ordered the vegetarian ramen and half order size were perfect for us because we also had the appetizers. I'm sure the other ramens would be amazing but I don't eat pork so it was a great veg option for me. We will definitely be back to try some other dishes, the yakisoba looked delicious!

When our waiter finally out to our table, she gave us a bar code to scan for the menu. Due to the pandemic, this is much more hygienic practice to provide contactless menus. However, my cell phone service was super slow, so I had to ask for the wifi password. In fact, they probably should just write the wifi password with the bar code as not everyone has great cellular phone service in the area. The pictures in the menu looked great so I ordered the beef ramen. My friend ordered the seafood ramen. When my beef ramen arrived, I suddenly realized why the ramen was so inexpensive. The portion of the ramen was really tiny. It also was oversaturated with miso flavoring which wasn't ideal. The beef ramen was so so, but not really filling. My friend's pan fried seafood udon looked so much better and much more filling too. My advice is not to get anything that is soup based. The service was slow as many people mentioned in their reviews, but at least they accept credit cards.

We were in Cancun, MX and stayed at an all inclusive resort called Live Aqua, great resort,…read morerecommended. Came to Hidden Garden for one of our dinner for a special birthday celebration of my friend. The food was great and the ambiance was great. The service from our server was great. It was such a nice special touch for the chef to come out and ask how everything was, and the server brought out a birthday dessert for my friend. 5 stars on all of that. So why 2-stars then? The hostess of this place that evening was rude and out of place. We were all dressed VERY NICE in all black, however, one of the guy in our group's outfit was sleeveless. He was wearing a very nice leather sleeveless vest. Mind you, it wasn't a tank top, it wasn't swim wear, it wasn't athletic wear. It was an expensive leather vest, very fashionable. Nicer than all of the old men wearing shorts and Hawaiian shirts or basic polo shirts. The hostess didn't allow him in until he changed to something that had sleeves. Friend changed and was allowed in. Once inside, he put the vest back on for photos since everyone in our group coordinated to be wearing black fashionably. On our way out of the restaurant, the hostess had the nerve to stop us and say something about it. Lesson here is, do better. We understand that there's dresscode, but know what should be acceptable or not. If it was a tank top, swim wear, or athletic wear, we'd definitely understand. But it was not, it was upscale and fashionable, just without the sleeve. Plus, women are allowed to be sleeveless but not men? What year do you live in? Train your hostess better.
