Came here on a weekday during lunch as their sign had caught my eye since it was new. This seems to be a family owned business and the staff was nice and friendly. The place itself is clean and spacious. I do love that they have a tiny wooden table for kids to sit. We ordered take out in which the food came out promptly (15 mins). How this works is you pick your base: dry or soup ($8.99) and then add anything additional for more money. The base does come with some noodles, lotus roots, seaweed knots and some veggies. For my order, I had the base soup with fatty lamb and we also got the spicy base with fatty lamb, enoki mushrooms and tofu skin. My husband enjoyed the spicy one as it was full of flavor. My base one was good but a bit bland. I'm not sure if due to being take out, the portions were not as big as I thought they would be BUT it does fill you up. I'm also not sure what the difference is between the VIP pricing vs regular as we were charged regular. Overall, it really adds up as you're picking additional toppings. Next time, we'll probably give it a try in person to see if portions are comparable.

The homemade DanDan noodles were our favorite, which are served with ground pork in a spicy peanut sauce. We also got the three cup chicken which was so good, with a sweet, licorice-like glaze. Some other favorites were the black pepper chicken and the long hot chicken, if you enjoy spice. We had the ginger and scallion dish and was not our favorite, as the chicken had a unique consistency and was quite limp. Overall, good service and a relaxing ambiance in a bustling city.

The food is consistently strong, and the signature dan dan noodles are a must-order. We also tend to get the chicken potstickers, scallion pancake, kung pao chicken, and dry pot beef, along with white rice for the table. It's a menu that rewards repeat visits. We've had both takeout and dine-in here, and we definitely prefer dining in. The food is at its best when it comes straight out of the kitchen. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and kind without being overbearing. For seating, we prefer the cozy but small upstairs dining area, so making a reservation on OpenTable is usually a good idea. There are a few high-top tables downstairs near the kitchen and windows, which are also great, but if you prefer a quieter or cozier spot, we think the upstairs is best. They also offer a happy hour with good prices, and overall, the value for the food quality is excellent. We often bring out-of-town guests, and it's always a hit. Sichuan cuisine remains distinct from typical American Chinese, which helps Dan Dan stand out. We've also noticed their Ardmore location, which appears to be a strong alternative. Consistently good, well-run, unique, and worth visiting, especially for the dan dan noodles. Highly recommended and hope to be back soon!

Spicy, numbing and, yes also the right level of oily-ness that comes with some of the traditional dishes. Just go with whatever they recommend (even though they have QR menus mainly), but we loved our dumpling in chili oil appetizer, the beef stew, spicy crisped chicken (lazhiji) and spicy tofu. Chengdu Famous Food has created the right balance of cuisine authenticity, hole-in-wall-ness, and hipster vibe... all undeliberately. An absolute gem. Service was friendly. Can see this place being overrun during peak hours, as it was already a bit busy even at 5pm midweek. Lots of takeout business too but fortunately there are seatings available for 20-25 diners. The shop is in a nice area of the revitalized Powelton/Drexel/University City area across from a few new developments with reasonable street parking in the area. Absolutely a go-to if in the area, and may be worth driving a bit to if in the Greater Philly region.

It's not overwhelming with Kim chee, so that could be a miss for die-hard Kim chee lovers and great for people who aren't entirely sold on Kim chee. The service is amazing! Food is quick, waiters are quick and hospitable. 10/10! The ambiance is gorgeous, dimly lit and just a vibe overall. I love the colors inside that light up on the walls. My sister recommended this pan-Asian restaurant. We made reservations for dinner and were promptly…read moretaken to our table. The restaurant serves modern Asian small plates meant for sharing. We ordered the crispy chicken bao buns, crispy shrimp, general tso soup dumplings, wagyu beef, Korean bbq beef, and hamachi ceviche. We were a group of 3 so one thing that was nice was that our waiter added 1 additional skewer/bao bun for the meals instead of ordering 2 plates of them. Out of all the food we ordered the most delicious were the meats; the wagyu and Korean bbq beef. They were so tender and lightly seasoned because the beef quality itself was good. The Wagyu beef was paired with an apricot dip that was really good. The chilli crisp chicken bao was also good but didn't have much sauce, so it was on the dry side. It was supposed to have chilli so we expected it to be spicy but it was not. We all really liked the crispy shrimp--it was truly crispy. The sauce and the radish paired really nicely with the shrimp as well. The one meal we did not enjoy were the soup dumplings. When we got them they were dripping of raw dough and had no soup in them. The waiter was kind enough to replace them but we still didn't really enjoy them. I did not try the hamachi ceviche because I'm pregnant but it was also a favorite from the group. For dessert we had the mini ice cream cones. The waiter again added an extra one for us. The flavors were chocolate banana and mango. They were good, small bites. One of them melted so quickly and fell on the table and the waiter was really kind and got us a replacement. I did use the bathroom and absolutely hated it. It was unbelievably dark in there and there were weird sounds playing in there. I went in there to make sure I didn't have food in my teeth but couldn't even see. Super inaccessible, hopefully that's something that can be changed. The service overall was clearly excellent! I would recommend this place, especially if you come for the meats. It was surprisingly filling too.
