Sphaeristerium We were attracted here from the discount offered on the food app. Interestingly, at 7:00 when they opened, 6 or 7 tables immediately were seated. All were foreigners, mostly American. As we lingered over our dinner, we were present for the "2nd wave" of diners, which were mostly Italians. Service was a little slow at the beginning (no kidding, as so many were seated at the same time... .seating should have been staggered). However, in due course we were content with the service. We did not plan on coming to Sphaeristerium last night, but we are so glad that the universe led us here! We did not have a reservation but they sat us anyway. The restaurant is in the basement and has ancient Roman decorations all around. It's very cool. They started us off with some bread and olive oil. The olive oil tasted very fresh and delicious. For an appetizer, we had the octopus in a tomato sauce. It was SO good. We used the extra bread to soak up the sauce. I wanted to pick up the dish and drink what was left over. For the main course, we ordered the Fettuccine and the Carbonara. The fettuccine comes with calamari and a seafood marinara sauce. It was amazing. The carbonara was remarkable as well! All the pasta is cooked al dente, just how I like it. We had no room for dessert after but they brought us a bottle of Amaretto and Limoncello to help us digest. They also gave us some biscotti and candy to go with it. They then brought a big bottle of Amaro (kind of like an Italian whiskey) and allowed us to drink as much as we wanted from it. It was such a nice gesture! The service was fantastic. We saw the owner going around and greeting all the customers, helping clear tables and serving food. He was such a delightful man. Stopped in after visiting so sites. First of all the food was nothing special. The plates were what you except, nothing fancy. We order the Octopus and potatoes and it didn't taste fresh. It had a fishy taste. Order the Three sesame tuna tataki with spicy mango sauce, which was not bad but the mango sauce tasted like sweet potatoes. We also order the Tagliolini with sweet potato cream, lime and mussels. It also was nothing special and had a strange after taste. read more

The restaurant is very nice inside and the people there were very nice, but the foods weren't that good. Our first night in Rome meeting our middle daughter and friends studying abroad. Sphaeristerium just 4-5 minutes from Trevi Fountain was a perfect spot for dinner after. We started with a drink in the bar upstairs then blue fin tartar. Followed by Carbonara and Amarone della Valpolicella wine. Family, friends food and a stellar staff. Actually, 4.5. Came by based on TripAdvisor reviews and it's proximity to Trevi Fountain. I ordered the gnocchi and my wife ordered the calamarata dish. My dish was Excellent but my wife's was just okay. Dining is under street level. Service was good based on Europe standards. I'll be talking about that gnocchi for years to come. read more

Nicely decorated. It's in the basement of the building making it like you're going to a cave. Very modern and fashionably lit. The food was superb. Excellent service. And the limoncello at the end was a lovely way to end the meal. I know this a new restaurant and the ambience is great but I think they have a lot to work on. I came with a larger group and mostly we were not very pleased with the food. The antipasto and wine was very good but everything else left something to be desired. The pasta dishes were OKAY but nothing exemplary. I got the bolognese sauce and there wasn't much meat in it. Also the portion of the pasta was insanely small. At first I didn't mind because we also were ordering a second course. But the second course came out and everyone's red meat was RAW. I know this is how Italians make things at times but when we asked to have it cooked just a little more they literally took my steak back and just brought me a new one. When I say raw I mean it was gummy and the texture was weird. So gross. And they didn't understand what we wanted fixed so I left hungry :( Wouldn't return here there's too many good places in Rome. Try the Hugo! The bar tender was fantastic. She put a lot of love into our drinks and followed them with complimentary paninis. Out of our whole Europe trip, this had the best cocktails, even better than Gin Lover in Portugal! read more

We stayed next door to this restaurant for a few days. We had breakfast there every day. It was delicious. Prepared by Martina and Sara. They were so nice and took great care of us. The food was plentiful and very good pastries, smoothies, eggs etc. cappuccino was perfect. Place was clean and lively. I recommend it for a good quick breakfast any day. read more
