STAY AWAY! Far, far away! Absolutely terrible pizza. It was so bland. I've never had to put salt on pizza before, ever! I feel bad for my daughter. This was her first "Italian" pizza and it's a joke. Here's the biggest punch in the face- they charge you a "cover charge" for use of the table and silverware. Good lord!! The reviews seem terribly suspicious. Don't even go there! We went for Happy Hour. We were thinking we were going to have the dinner there later. We tried to have something to eat first., then later dinner after 10pm. First, the manager was extremely not happy for us, then bring us snack only potato chips, peanuts and olives. We got one glass of wine and one beer. The bill was $18.00 for two people and on the check they asked for tip. If they did not want to serve use for Happy Hour, they should say so, they should not put the " Happy Hour" sign outside the restaurant. We went to many restaurants in Roma, that was the first time. My friend and I came here today for lunch since it was close to our hotel and the menu looked good. We sat outside which had a nice breeze despite the hot day. I ordered the gnocchi with pesto and my friend ordered a pepperoni pizza. We also each got a glass of Pinot Grigio. Service was prompt and attentive without being annoying. The food came out quickly and was piping hot. I enjoyed my dish which had a fair amount of gnocchi covered in a really good pesto sauce. The sauce seemed fresh and you could taste the cheese and pine nuts in it. My friend enjoyed her pizza (other than having to cut it herself) and I had a small piece to try. It had good flavor and was tasty but nothing special. It had a very thin crust so it was a bit difficult to eat without the toppings sliding off. The wine was also good. There was nothing remarkable about this place but overall it was a decent meal. They also don't charge a service charge in case you were wondering. read more

Bread came with the initial water for table. We had the cacio de pepe (5/10), carbonara (8/10), classic spaghetti and meatballs (10/10), and pork cutlet with salad (9/10). Not only did they bring us the wrong food items, but we had to remind and ask the staff to help us. They were also constantly passing our table off to different servers so we never even had the same waiter throughout the meal. When it came to paying it took us 30 minutes of asking for the check and when it arrived they were incredibly rude to us and even charged us for the wrong items. We came upon La Cucina Nazionale on our last night in Rome. The restaurant was around the corner from our Hotel. The restaurant is very big and there seating both outside and indoors. We choose to sit inside to avoid all the smokers. They took 5 minutes before anyone noticed us. We had to ask for the waiter to come to our table. When he came, he was awesome. What I like about La Cucina is the menu offers a lot of diversity with onion rings, hamburgers, steaks, pasta and pizza. On our last night in Rome we were tired of all the carbs and wanted something different. My wife and I ordered the minestrone soup and chicken with potatoes. The soup came out too hot to eat. But it tasted very good. The chicken was delicious. We were both pleased with our meals. Overall I would give La Cucina a 4 star rating for quality and price. read more

I'm embarrassed to admit this, but during my recent visit to Rome, we ate here four times. Right by the Piazza Della Repubblica, it is conveniently located close to Termini Station along with many hotels. Our hotel was down the street so the first time we found this restaurant, we were walking back to our hotel after returning from a day in Florence. It's pretty busy every night with most, if not all, tables occupied by patrons. Service was excellent, food was delicious and pricing was quite reasonable. The menu has something for every palette, which is why I think a lot of tour groups dine here as well. We found portions to be good; a couple of times, we ordered the various vegetable appetizers and shared it. There was enough for the both of us. I highly recommend the pizzas here. I ordered pizza twice here. Thin and crispy, it was so good! Their house wine is pretty good as well. I ordered the 0,375 ml bottle of the house red every time I ate here. It was 7€. Well, it's nothing to write home about. If you have the time to go somewhere else I would suggest it. If your looking for something quick and somewhat ok then this is your place. The potatoes were over cooked the chicken was good as long as I swiped it in the balsamic reduction that was on my plate (definitely ask for extra of that) the salad was crisp and fresh but the only thing they could have done to that was give it to me wilted (I would have sent it all back) I think the chicken and potatoes came out of the microwave) it didn't take very long for it to come out at all ( just a guess). We arrived in Rome ready for more history, more culture and more gastronomic adventures. The hotel concierge suggested we try this bistro and even drew us a map so we'd know how to find it. Little did we know we'd enjoy lunch here on two of our three days in Rome. La Cucina Nazionale is an open, airy semi-subterranean bistro with a menu of pizza and pasta, and of course the requisite wine. On both visits we ordered a half bottle of house red (delicious!) for us and a pizza margherita for the kiddo. A cold bottle of still water was brought to the table and appreciated by all of us. During our first visit, Romeo and I ordered pizzas for ourselves: primavera and sausage and mushroom. The pizza crust was thin and crispy on each of them. The kiddo even forgot what she was doing and ate some of 'the handle.' So that's a good sign of a yummy crust in our household. The pizzas were ample in size but because of the thin crust didn't sit in your belly like a basket of bricks. So they were great choices for a day when we'd be walking the city in the heat. On the second day, we noticed that the same foursome of girls who sat beside us on day one were eating lunch there again. (Great sign!) Romeo and I shared a caprese salad and helped the kiddo out by eating the scraps of her pizza. More wine. More cold water. Another good light lunch. What impressed us most about this bistro was our waiter. On both days he was friendly and helpful without at all being overbearing. He joked and smiled with the kiddo who'd brought her new Beanie Boo Harriet along and was engaged in a photoshoot amidst the pizza and wine. His smile was infectious and it made for a wonderful welcome to Rome. If you are near the Piazza della Repubblica and looking for a light and very affordable lunch, then stop into La Cucina Nazionale. You'll be very happy that you did. read more

My keen senses abandoned me today and as a result, I ate at not only one, but two subpar restaurants. In the same day. I blame the excessive Roman heat followed by the Monsoon-like downpour that nearly drowned me earlier. Location: On Via Nazionale near Termini. It's close enough to the train hub to be considered a tourist trap. Service: OK. Nothing exceptional. Food: having dealt with issues of the intestinal nature for years, I've become quite adept at sniffing out mediocre food and food that's been processed. If that's what you're looking for then this is the place for you. The best way to describe it is to say two things: this is the Italian version of Olive Garden, and you can get the same kind of pizza (what I ordered) in the frozen section of your grocer. Think Dr. Oetker. After one slice, I was already bloated - a dead give away that this is not authentic cuisine and that the ingredients are processed. A big no-no for me. The pizza I ordered had mozzarella, mushrooms and sausage; the mozzarella was not proper Italian fare. The mushrooms were so thinly sliced you could barely taste them and the sausage was greyish pink - definitely not Italian style. Flavor? OK but again, this is of the frozen pizza variety. Price point: Expensive for what you're getting. I'd skip it. The only reason I stopped in to begin with is because of my top three choices in the hood, two were closed and the last was booked up. read more

A very quaint place for a nice lunch after a morning of walking and beautiful sites. We Saar down with no problem around 1PM. for lunch, we had the carbonara pasta and fried prawn and calamari salad. Both were very good. The salad was minuscule in size but the prawn and calamari were fried well. The carbonara was very tasty, but a bit too salty. In all, not a perfect meal but a good meal to enjoy before a nice midday nap. I'd definitely go back to try other items. read more

I came here because it is right around the corner from my hotel and they seemed to have more 'meat and salad' meals than a lot of other places around this area. I'm dairy intolerant and have been in Italy (venice and Rome) for ten days so far and that means that every night I've had a choice of pizza marinara, tomato and basil pasta or pesto pasta with no cheese. I was really feeling like some ordinary meat and salad. I got what I wanted - lamb chops roast potatoes and salad. The service was friendly but brisk. The up side to that is my order only took three minutes to arrive! The downside is the meal was nothing special. But that is what I was looking for. Positives: fast service, various options available, they aren't rude and pushy if you just want to look at the menu like many other places in this area Negatives: my meat was very fatty and there was a lot of 'gravy' invaded my lovely fresh salad! This restaurant was right next to our hotel and offered very solid good Italian staples for lunch. We had better margherita pizza elsewhere, but their tuna salad was very tasty, and we also really Enjoyed their three tasting combo meal with risotto and fried calamari. My kids ended the meal with a banana split which they told me was very yummy! After a long day trip to Pompeii, 8 of us popped into this restaurant that was right down the street from where are staying... And what a great find! Very inexpensive for the great meal that we had. My husband and son got the seafood pasta, which was excellent and I had the seafood risotto... Sooo good! Our younger son ordered the hamburger and a salad, the server told us that the hamburger was extremely large and that he really didn't need the salad because that was also very large... He was right!
