Pistol Dominance 2-Day was an incredible experience -- really putting into practice the 9 things to becoming a better shooter. What truly sets Fabio apart from other instructors is his ability to teach. He explains concepts in a way that's clear, easy to understand, and then reinforces them with drills and immediate feedback so you can make corrections on the spot. Highly recommend MyOwnDefender to anyone serious about improving.

I'm so glad I happened upon the flyer for this class and jumped at the opportunity. While I don't…read morecurrently compete, I've been toying with the idea of getting into competitive shooting. In our household, we believe in practicing perfectly from the start--so before we dive into anything new, we seek out solid instruction to help us avoid building bad habits. Well, let me tell you--years of competitive mounted shooting definitely created some deeply ingrained habits that don't translate so well when you're standing on two feet with two hands instead of four hooves and single-hand shooting. Fabio has an incredible eye for detail and never let up on helping me correct and improve. What stood out most was how equally he invested time and energy into every shooter, not just the seasoned competitors. He maintained focus on the smallest details, reinforcing techniques to ensure we all walked away with a clear understanding of what we need to work on individually. His coaching was patient, thorough, demanding while he consistently challenged us with progressive drills that made the class both rewarding and motivating. I walked away with exactly what I was hoping for--direction, insight, and a clear path for improvement. I immediately signed up for his online dry fire drill program to keep building on the solid foundation he helped lay. If you're thinking about getting serious with pistol work--especially competition-whether you're just starting out or have been shooting for years--I can't recommend this class enough.

Passed the course, then passed the NREMT 2 weeks later on my first try at 70 questions! Highly…read morerecommended. Wanted to write a review because in researching EMT schools, one might be put off by some of the negative reviews here. Like a lot of things, there may be some kernals of truth in them. For example, it is true if you take the online course, it's up to you to be self-disciplined and put in the work. I admit when I first started, I completed several chapters right away, but then life happened, and I paused for several months before coming back to finish the class. However, this is the same as real life: when you go to the gym or have to complete continuing education hours on your own, you won't necessarily have someone reminding you or motivating you. No one is going to be as invested in your future as you. I saw some other people say they have issues with communications. It's true that there have been some times I've had to wait a few days to get and email or phone call back, but how is that different for a lot of other cases. When you are applying to Fire Departments or EMT companies, you have to be the one to 'hurry up and wait,' be able to have some patience, and be able to respectfully and politely follow-up as needed. Finally, in regards to the NREMT, I studied the course material very hard, used third-party websites and apps to prep for the NREMT, and the exam was different from both the course and the other tools I used. In fact, it was the psychomotor exams that SoCal EMT used that were surprisingly very helpful: you have to memorize a very specific order and way of doing things per SoCal EMT and NREMT, and that helped me in my exam very much. Out of everything I learned, I think I'll be relying on their psychomotor scenarios the most in the field. On another positive note, SoCal EMT worked for me, as someone who is older with life responsiblities and a job. I didn't have time to go into an in-person class at a set time every few days (and potentially fail a whole course for missing one class or being late), and SoCal EMT gave me the opportunity to study for the EMT on my own time and my own pace, and set me up for success to pass the NREMT. And it doesn't hurt that they have reasonable fees; other California online or hybrid courses I see are easily double or triple what SoCal EMT charges, and in today's economy, I think we all need all the help we can get.
