Speedy Donuts is incredible. The donuts are made there, and the food is always fresh and delicious. This is a family business and is run with heart and love. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and patient. A lot of parents bring their little ones - they're so cute picking out their donuts and the staff never rushes them. Alex's parents are the sweetest people you'll ever meet and ran Speedy for years. You could tell they loved it, greeting everyone with a smile. I so want to give this place a 5 Star, it's a great local "Mom and pop" diner but the service is extremely slow. It's great that there's always a line in a small local spot but on a Saturday there was 1 cook, 1 waitress and 1 person working the register and floating. This little dove donut shop was the best place for a morning coffee and a donut. The spider donuts are amazing as well as their breakfast sandwiches. I was really excited to try this place, not really sure what the hype is about nothing was worth 5 stars. It wasn't bad but really nothing special. The thing I enjoyed most was the roll on my breakfast sandwich. Really fresh. I am happy I tried it but don't really think I will ever come back. Wish they had cheddar. Every year in March I go to Sugar Loaf in Main. One of the main attractions of that trip is to stop at Speedy Donuts and load on those beautiful, light, delicately sweet, marvelous doughy treasures one can get there... I am from Poland; also a descendant of great cooks and bakers. I know something about a good yeast raised doughnut. These babies rock ! They get me an extra sparkle when I go downhill. Real donuts! It's a good thing I wasn't around when this place was established in 1969. I would be the world's largest woman. The donuts are very tasty. I recomend the jelly stick. It's nice to have a breakfast treat that you know was made right there at the location. Instead of some other places, which just have buzz buzz ice coffee. This place is truly the best! I have yet to order something and be dissatisfied. The pancakes are out of this world, the bacon is cooked to a perfect doneness, the sausage links are so flavorful and juicy. The food is always hot off the flat top. Not only is the food great but the customer service is amazing. No matter how busy they are, they are always smiling and ask how you are doing. One time they forgot my fries but was in a hurry so I told them to forget it, I wasn't mad I understand things happen. They didn't charge me for the fries and gave me two free donuts. Sure this place isn't a large-name chain, but that's a good thing. Speedy's is all about customer service and quality. Don't let the aged appearance of the shop fool you; everything sold here is unbelievably fresh! If they run out of a particular doughnut or pastry that you wanted, tell them, and they will make another one just for you. At this point, I should mention that, while a dozen doughnuts from Dunkin' cost $7.99 (as of March 2014) and a dozen doughnuts from Speedy's cost $8.99, the reason is because Dunkin's doughnuts are terrible. My personal suggestion, get there right when they open at 6 AM; the donuts pretty much melting your mouth because they're THAT fresh! read more

Great local place. Family owned since I think 1969... the whole family works here. It's kind of like the Cheers of donut shops you get to know everyone here. Very small/simple menu (eggs/pancakes/sandwiches) but food is consistent and good. Always busy on weekend mornings but can pretty much squeeze in somewhere. This place makes me so happy that it brings tears to my eyes. Sugary and delicious tears. Despite living in Norwalk for 24 years, I somehow missed this place, wasting all my time at crappy chains like Dunkin or Starbucks. No more, folks. It's back to salt of the earth basics for this girl! It makes me really happy that Speedy's has been standing for 46 years. Everything they do, they do it well. Open for breakfast and lunch, they have a diner-style counter with a line cook, whipping up favorites like inlets and burgers. Amazing value, courteous service, and just a good time. You can get 2 doughnuts and 2 excellent cups for coffee for $5 - what's not to love?? While all the doughnuts are bomb digging, my personal favorite is the plain yeast one - essentially a glazed doughnut without the glaze. Sounds crazy to order, but the results are spectacular - light and fluffy as a croissant cloud. Next time I have a lung stretch of nothing planned, I'm going to do back to back meals because I'm crazy like that. read more

I'm hesitant to reccomend this place because it's busy enough already & I don't like to wait when I'm hungry. If you're a Dunkin Donut (lousy) or Donuts Delight (pretty good) fan give this place a try. Their donuts remind me of my youth (I'm 62) growing up in Stamford when there were no chains and you bought donuts from local bakeries & they were made from scratch not from mixes. Their breakfast sandwiches are also great & inexpensive. I can't comment on their coffee because I'm a coffee snob & brew my own at home from whole beans. read more

I stop in here for doughnuts about once a year ever since I stumbled upon this place (thanks to Yelp reviews) when I drive through Connecticut on I-95. It's a very quick detour just off the highway and worth it for the fresh doughnuts which are always tastier than the ever-so-present Dunkin Donuts locations found everywhere in the region. Beware that a dozen doughnuts runs about $10, so they aren't exactly cheap. Something to note is that they now take credit cards...they were previously cash only. read more

This is an old-fashioned "greasy spoon" (read with affection) family-owned breakfast spot. They make the donuts there every morning! They are fresh and consistently wonderful. There are loads of choices, but I always get a French Cruller because they are the best I have ever had (light as air, delicate, moist). The people who work there are quick and friendly.
