The price is good, the coupons, etc are attractive... I've been there many times over the past few years and never had a problem. This last time the technician said my battery needed to be replaced. That it was at 30% of storage and therefore in need of replacing. They'd sell me one... Etc. I thought it sounded odd because my car started fine. I went home and called AAA to come check my battery. The AAA service man showed me on his expensive battery tester that the battery was working like new. The battery was 4 years old and has a 6 year warranty on it. I concluded that either the speedy technician has an integrity problem or is using incredibly bad equipment. Either way, they just lost a long time customer. Brought my Prius there for an oil change. They changed my oil quickly but didn't reset my maintenance light. They also tried to sell me a couple of different filters and four new tires. Was told that my tires were "legally bald" and that I should not be driving on them. I decided to take my car to a second location to get my tires checked out. New location said I've got about 3,000 miles left on my front tires and much more than that on my back tires. Looks like I'm not in dire need of tires right away. Glad I went for that second opinion...disappointed in SpeeDee for trying to trick me into things I don't need right now. Would suggest getting that second opinion for any type of repair/parts they suggest you need. Won't be returning to this business. read more

Had an oil change late last week and the service was top notch. Immediately drove my car home and let it sit for the weekend. Sunday I went to use my 2015 Jeep and noticed a pool of oil dripping out. Today I called SpeeDee first thing this morning and they sent a mechanic to my house and corrected the problem. Defective oil filter (that happens) from time to time I guess. What I appreciated most was the quick action of the Davis location and their willingness to drive to Winters and make good on what could have been a major disaster. Brought my car in for an oil change and to check for a leak in my right rear tire. They did the oil change and told me they found a nail in my right rear tire and I needed 4 new tires. I bought these tires less than 2 years ago and having worked in a gas station for 12 years know there's plenty of tread on the tires. When I told them to just fix the right rear tire, they REFUSED. They gave me my bill and LEFT THE NAIL in the tire. I will be writing the BBB next, avoid this place. They are lovely here! I take my car here for whatever i can. They are reasonably priced, aren't trying to sell you services you don't need, fast! And always kind. They usually don't clean allll the windows, usually just some, but that's not why I come here anyway so I don't get mad at that. It's nice that they clean any windows at all and the tire pressure check is way more important to me than the windows. They clean windows, vacuum, and check some things like pressure and liquid levels whenever I go in for anything. Good place! I'll keep going there, and I tell my friends to go there, too. read more

They are very nice here, but they are always trying to sell you something. I bought an air filter from these guys 6 months ago and it was hardly even dirty, the guy wanted to sell me another (I originally bought one because mine was almost black). I feel like they do unnecessary things, like clean the windows when I just want to be in and out. For some reason they are always watching the health channel in the lobby too, not sure why i had to mention that. I would rather sit in my car while they changed my oil than have to get out and watch them "dilly dally" around. Came here because my car wouldn't brake fully when I pressed the brake pedal down. Found out I had a torn brake line and air in the brake system. They fixed it, HOWEVER, 3 weeks later I am back home in San Jose and notice the same problem comes back again. I call the Davis Midas telling them the same problem has surfaced again while the car IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY and the shop owner is giving me a bunch of excuses such as my car is lowered or something hit the car. Or that it could be the opposite brake line leaking. No. False. My car was not lowered. In fact it is completely stock. My car was not hit either in that 3 week period. I can tell because there is no mark on my car and I was the only person driving it so I would've heard it something hit it. I also have a viper alarm system which will notify me via 2 way signal that my car was it if it was hit. It was also the same brake line as 3 weeks before as the shop in San Jose discovered. This shows complete lack of ownership when the Midas franchise explicitly states there is a 30 day warranty on all labor and 90 days on parts on the back of the receipt. This means that either you or your shop employee was negligent or did not do a thorough enough job if the same problem came back in 3 weeks. If my car was hit ever so slightly and did not leave a mark and the brake line tore again that means your shop did a horrible job with the repair. So I had to get my car towed-thankfully I had AAA- to a shop in San Jose so they could fix it. Basically cost me $500 for a $200 job. Shop owner called me and left a voicemail explaining why she couldn't fix it (car had to be hit or was modified) BUT I WOULD NOTICE IF MY CAR WAS HIT. DUH. Don't go here. I was lucky to notice that my brake wasn't working in front of my own house and not when I really needed it on the highway or something. read more

What a bunch of crooks! I went in for an oil change and they told me I needed a lot of additional work (like my belts were worn). But also told me I needed my transmission fluid changed. They told me it was way over due for this and some bad stuff could happen to my transmission if I didn't change it. So I ok'd the service. Later when I got home, my husband showed me in the owner's manual that my Toyota Corolla recommends the transmission fluid NEVER needs changing. My husband called the business to complain, but the manager just argued that this was their recommendation. Well they lost a customer. I'm never going back. read more

My experience here was very short but somewhat memorable. I pulled in for a smog check and walked through the doors to the lobby. I first noticed that they had not only a waiting room but a patio as well. It was like a bistro. People were actually sitting out there and chatting and I half expected to see some lattes, crustinis and pasta salads. Anyway, as soon as I got to the front desk a gentleman jumped out and said "How can I help you?!?" He followed me to my vehicle and took some information. In a flash he ran inside and came back out and told me that I needed to go to a test-only facility. He said there was one right next door. He was very speedy and friendly. I didn't have to spend any money here so I guess that made for a more pleasant experience. Still, I thought the service was prompt, professional, and friendly. I'll keep that in mind. read more

Took my car here a month ago, they left my oil cap loose and it ended up leaking all over my engine and now have a horrid oil smell every time I drive my car and it wasted a ton of oil which is not cheap. So incredibly angry with their AWFUL service and negligence. They shouldn't even call themselves mechanics for this horrible service. Never going back and will be warning all my friends of this terrible service. Went here on a whim because I happened to be in the area and needed my oil changed...and boy was I impressed! I left the area and walked to a nearby strip mall because I thought the oil change would take close to an hour like it usually does, but they called after 30 min saying my vehicle was ready for pickup (hence the name SpeeDee-Midas!). The owner was very professional and honest about what maintenance on my car was needed right away (none!) and what could wait. The prices were also significantly lower than other oil change places in the Vacaville area with the "check in" offer the business provides. I will definitely be making the drive to SpeeDee-Midas 3,000 miles from now for my next oil change! read more

Took my car here to get an oil change in a rush. I got here at 4:20pm and was out the door by 5pm. Which was fairly quick, considering that there were 2 other customers ahead of me. The customers waiting area has tv, magazines, and free wifi. So you can definitely bring your netbook/laptop and do some studying or work while waiting. The price for an oil change is very reasonable compared to its competitors. I will definitely return to get oil changes here in the future. read more

So I've been here a few times actually. It usually takes 40-60 minutes. It's not that speedy in my opinion, especially since I have to wait in the waiting room and watch the time go by. They have a tv, so it's nice to watch the news or hgtv, and they have coffee. The people are nice, but they do make mistakes. One person changed the wrong filter, which I luckily caught, so I had to wait for them to change the right one. Another time, I wanted to know about the guarantee, and the person in front was guessing along with me about its contents. The people are nice though. It seems expensive to me, but I'm also a college student on a budget. read more

I wandered over the SpeedDee one day based on the recommendation of a stranger who was trying to help me change my taillights at a gas station. I really needed help getting the bulbs out of the sockets so i figured, why not? They're just down the street from my house. Upon arrival I was immediately greeted by a smiling employee and asked what I needed. I explained and she said that she would be right back with someone who could help. Within moments another employee came out to help. He was very careful because he knew it the bulbs broke inside of the sockets that I'd be in trouble. After a little fiddling around both of the bulbs were finally out. (These were seriously difficult bulbs, that seemed to be fused into the sockets!) The employee helped me put new bulbs into both taillights and asked if there was anything else that he could help me with. I offered to pay but they wouldn't accept. I was extremely grateful for their kindness and promised to be back for a smog inspection soon. Smog inspection was done quickly, and with a smile. Upon checkout I had forgotten my $20 off coupon from Safeway but the cashier gladly honored it :-) This place has great customer service and knows how to serve it up with a smile every time! I was looking to buy a used car and wanted a thorough pre-vehicle inspection. I called around and while this was not the cheapest place for a pre-vehicle inspection it was the only one that would see me on a saturday without an appointment. It cost $135 and they were pretty thorough, I thought. It took me about 2 hours for the inspection but it was a pretty busy day. They even did a pre-smog test for me. The guys there were really helpful and I thought they were totally on my side. I actually went to Speedee with the car's owner. And while the owner's were kinda badgering me to forego the pre-vehicle inspection, Steve, the manager I guess, fought for me to get the inspection. So that was awesome. read more

We needed to get new spark plugs in a Toyota pickup. I stopped by here at around 11 am on Thursday hoping have it done. They were pretty busy; the man who came to help me said they didn't have the plugs and it would likely take a couple of hours to get it done. I didn't have the time but said I'd be back later. Came back at 8:30 the next morning; they had the plugs and still had my paperwork ready to go. The mechanic said it would be 45 minutes to an hour - one hour later I had paid the bill (which was $15 less than I was quoted on the phone, even) and was on my way. My only complaint is the temperature in the waiting room - Arctic! I can understand why the employees want it that way; it's no fun to work outside in long pants and dark shirts when it's hot, but it's a bit fresh for customers wearing shorts, especially at 9 in the morning. But the patio area outside and the free wireless internet and coffee are nice touches. Overall, I'm really happy with the service I received. read more

Went in on a walk in and had them change all the fluids in my newly acquired 4x4 Jeep. Oil, transmission, and transfer case. They had the additive for the rear LSD in stock so I had them do the differentials as well. Fairly quick and complete. They kept "up selling" to a minimum. So I've been coming here for 7 years and it's about time I write them a review. As a woman who knows very little about cars, I hate feeling like I'm being taken advantage of when I go somewhere and they try to tell me something is wrong with my car when it's not true. This place earned my trust years ago when I moved to Davis. I now live in Sac and still make the drive here just for their honesty and excellent customer service. I get all my oil changes, breaks, flushes, and most everything else that I can here. It's not as cheap as Sears, but I pay for the wonderful service. They give a student discount with your ID card and send you $10 off coupons in the mail or by email. They have free wifi and a nice patio outside for you to wait (as well as an indoor area with a TV) if you wish, or you can drop off your car. Pro tip: they don't take appointments so first come, first served! read more
