One lady at the front desk was not friendly. the way she communicated with me seemed like she was annoyed when I asked details about what was wrong with my vehicle. English is not my first language so I sometimes need clarity and she acted like she couldn't be bothered with the details. I just spent over $700 to fix something on my vehicle and they gave me a list of other issues that would cost over $2700 to fix. I didn't understand what the problems were so I needed someone to explain thats why I asked. I don't mind she didn't know but I did not like the attitude. I'm disappointed that I needed break pads replaced and they told me I need to replace rotors and calipers. I went to another place and they said the rotors and calipers were fine. read more

This is a professional, top level, auto service center! In March of this year, based on a recommendation from my friends at USA Tires I took my car to Master Tech because my engine seized and would no longer operate. After an inspection I was informed that I needed a new engine. I decided to have them find and install the new engine for me. After about 10 days I picked up the car. The car has run exceptionally since the new engine was installed. But, we recently went to use the air conditioning and there was no cool air. I returned to Master Tech and let them know. I was a little worried about the discussion that would take place as I knew the air conditioning was working fine prior to the engine replacement. (I don't have a lot of trust that businesses are fair in these situations). But, I was pleased to have a positive discussion, in which Mater Tech proposed a fair solution to the problem which included a free evaluation and ultimately a fair solution to the problem in which they honored the warranty that came with the engine replacement. I am always looking for integrity and I have found it here! Additionally, when I entered the reception area I noticed how clean and organized this part of the business is. Not typical for an automotive repair shop. It is apparent that the people who work here take pride in what they do. I highly recommend Master Tech. read more

Although I had really high hopes for this place, considering I know someone that worked here who regarded highly of the service and craftsmanship at Master Tech; I am saddened and disappointed in not being able to give this locally owned business 5 stars or a recommendation. Here are my reasons: -Despite calling early in the week (Tuesday) and leaving two voicemails, my call was not returned until the end of the business day on Friday by one of the owners, Richard -I was provided an estimate on how long they would have my vehicle, which was surpassed without so much as a heads up. I ended up calling at the end of the day to find out my car was not finished. -With the relaxed nature that the business carries itself by, I would have never imagined that they are charging customer's dealership prices in spite of being far from it. Used them before for major service. Had to call several times to check if car was ready and ended up in voicemail every time. Today, I needed to schedule a smog check. Called and got voicemail. Left a message stating what I needed and never received the promised call back. Took my car to another shop that actually answers their phone during business hours. I do business with companies that answer the phone, or if voicemail is necessary, return my call the same day. read more

We have had horrible experiences with this shop. They overcharge you on the labor side. In addition, they did not complete the job 100% when it got challenging to remove a part for exchanging the part. Please get a 2nd or 3rd opinion and do your research, or else you will be paying double or more for the job. I am disappointed and regret doing business with them. read more

Been here a few times over the years. I myself have never had any issues and my car always received the maintenance it needed. I recently brought in my car because it was throwing 16 OBD codes and it needed an oil change anyway. Every time I tried clearing the Well for some reason when they cleared the codes the codes stayed gone, they performed the oil change and then only charged for the oil change. They could have charged me for diagnostic and clearing the codes but they didn't and I appreciate that, reassures me that their not just trying to get every nickel and dime out of you that they can and that builds trust. read more

I've been going to MasterTech for years for my oil changes etc... Well, they just lost a loyal long time customer.. I've had several issues with them over the past several services but I just kept making excuses for them, over looked things and let things slide... But enough is enough. This time, asked for full synthetic oil (have never used anything but in this car), picked my car up and verified the oil used... She proceeded to tell me no they used conventional!! what?!!! Umm, oh... and what was once regular practice to rotate my tiers or at least ask if I wanted them to be... now, you better ask bc they won't if you don't. and this changed without notification so the whole time I'm getting my oil changed there and used to the tires being rotated they weren't getting rotated.. No wonder my tires bald way early! I've also had screws not put back in the under part of my car where they had to be taken out to drain the oil, so lost the cover under my car... yea, I've had enough.. At one time I highly recommended them and had sent several people their way but not anymore! I would not recommend them any longer... read more

I liked my experience here. They seem honest and trustworthy and was recommended to me by coworkers. I was worried my brakes were going bad cuz my car would shake when I braked from high speeds. They said brakes were good and just grooved and that i had a year or so left on them. My car also whined when I turned the wheel and other places in Woodland had told me it was my power steering going bad and the pining or something or other and it would be a $1,000 to fix. Master tech said no I just has to replace a gasket or one part and it cost me $80 and it fixed the problem lol. I took my car in to them months ago and it is still goin strong. UPDATE: After posting this review I was contacted by Richard, one of the owners of Master-Tech, who very politely apologized for the experience and explained an issue with the phone/messaging system as to why I never received a call back. After talking with him on the phone, we came to a satisfactory agreement that I would give MT another chance with the hope that I would have a better experience. When that time comes, I will update my review accordingly but until then, I appreciate Richard's phone call and the courtesy he extended me. I went in for an oil change a few days before Thanksgiving of this year because not only did they have one opening that morning, but they were also reasonably priced. I went in and right away, the woman at the counter wasn't very friendly and hearing one of the technicians complain to her about doing oil changes in front of customers was a bit concerning but my main concern was my oil change. About 30 minutes later, they called me to let me know my car was ready and I left. As I was driving home, I heard this loud scraping metal sound coming from my car. Knowing this wasn't there before the oil change, I drove it back to Master-Tech only to find that they had closed early and wouldn't be open again until a few days after Thanksgiving. I tried calling numerous times in hopes of reaching one of the technicians so that they could check my car to see what that loud noise was. Nobody was there, so I left a message asking them to please give me a call so that they could look at my car and help diagnose the problem since it was only present after I received the oil change. With that, I drove it to US Oil Changers & Repairs on Lincoln Avenue to see if they could find the source of the noise. They had asked if Master-Tech overfilled the oil since someone earlier came to them with that issue that MT had caused. The team there wasted no time at all in getting underneath the car to check it out and found that my oil pan cover was not properly attached after the oil change and was left hanging which explains the metal scraping since it was dragging on the ground. US Oil would not accept payment for helping me get this issue fixed and just requested that I come to them for my future oil changes on my vehicles, to which I happily said yes to. It has been over a month since I left that voicemail message with Master-Tech and they still haven't called me back to check on the issue or offer an apology. There have been no issues with my car, so I assume the actual oil change went fine but as far as customer service and making sure that the work is properly wrapped up, Master-Tech failed. I thought I had found a low-priced shop to get my oil changes done but when it comes to this place, you definitely get what you pay for and I won't be back. read more

This company does not do a good job. There mechanics are reckless. My car was dented and scratched when I picked it up. They forgot to put a fuse back in and I had to take the car back to them to correct it. The door handle was repaired but broke again a month later. One screw was stripped on the molding. I was sitting in the car getting ready to leave when one of the mechanics was moving another car and hit my bumper. There was no damage but still this should not happen. read more

I took my car for transmission flush and engine light. For the engine light i was aware it was related to thermostat sensor as i checked at home. Master tech gave me 2 more codes related to engine light saying they have something to do with transmission. When i said that the engine light code is related to thermostat sensor when i checked with my reader they said my reader is only $100 and they check with $10,000 computer. I took it to center city automotive in Davis and they said its thermostat sensor only. Got it all fixed two months back by center city and no engine light after that. Saved $100's or maybe $1000's. There are other good smog places in Woodland, but I read the great yelp reviews for this place, so I decided to try Master Tech out. My work let us out early on Friday, so I got here at 4pm. Parking area had plenty of spaces and there are about 4-5 car bays. Walked in without an appointment and the lobby was huge with plenty of seating including 2 sofas. The receptionist checked me in but checked with a manager behind a cubicle like wall if there was time to do a smog and he said yes. They have a couple of lap desks, so I used one as I fired up my laptop to do a bit of work. In less than 20 minutes, my name was called and my car was done! The receptionist said my car passed and the total due was $55, and I paid with a credit card. She handed me back my renewal and said they will electronically send my smog information to DMV. I was more than happy to pay a little more for a quick and pleasant experience. It was well worth it! read more

Made an appointment for Monday 6/26 to have my fuse fixed. When I got there I was told that they are only doing drop off no waiters. I told the receptionist that I had a 11am appointment. She didn't even look at the appointment book to see what service I had requested. I told her that the fuse for the radio went out she got up rolling her eyes to check to see if someone could look at it real quick. She came back and told me that all the technicians were busy with the cars that had been dropped off and that I could come back at 1pm and that they might be able to take a look at my car but that it wasn't guaranteed. She then went on to say that if that didn't work that I could come back on Tuesday at 8am and do a drop off. At this time I'm highly irritated, what's the point of making an appointment if the company is not going to honor it? I can see if the technicians has some down time before their appointment arrived, but once the car got there appointments should be priority not drop offs. I loved how the girl thought that people can just take off from work last minute to have their car worked on at a later date, when they already made an appointment. After I left the office it was a mess trying to get out of the parking lot. There were two people blocking me in. Luckily, a guy started directing traffic to let people in and out. If it wasn't for him I would probably still be stuck in that spot. Since the parking lot is so small they park the finished cars next door at Bank of America. Idk if they have a contract with the bank to park in their lot, but I would be concerned with my car getting towed. Master tech doesn't seem ethical to pay for the towing charge let alone keep an appointment! When I left Master Tech I drove to Natomas to have Best Buy look at the fuse. They fixed it in 10 minutes and didn't charge me for the part or labor. So at the end of the day I want to thank Master Tech because of you, I saved money and time. read more

This place is a scam. I now take my cars to a professional mechanic who tells the truth. I took my ford F150 here to get my spark plugs changed, they came back and told me that 3 spark plugs were seized to the engine and was told I would be spending 2k to get my engine removed and taken apart to properly and safely remove them. They changed the remaining 5 and but not the 3 that we're stuck. 2 months later my truck starts miss firing and runs rough. I took my truck else where and they told me that all 8 spark plugs were very loose and that is what was causing the miss fire. He explained that who ever worked on it last must have not tightened all 8. I asked if any of them looked seized and he said not at all. Later I took my van to master tech ended up spending 2k on things that didn't need replacement. I just went in for a oil change and all break pads replaced. They took a week to work on my van but once I got it back the breaks are starting to make a grinding sound. I am absolutely disappointed in this place and am not returning. read more

Master Tech really came through for me. The repairs I needed were running estimates of about $2000 at the dealership and at places in Davis, where I live. I couldn't afford a price that high, and I was starting to believe I should just find a new car, but I decided to call Master Tech because a friend told me they were great and had previously done what a dealership called a "$1000 job" for only $200. Master Tech did all the necessary repairs on my car for half the price, a price I could more readily afford. Richard, who quoted my car, was easy to talk to over the phone, responded to my inquiries very quickly, and got my car done in a day. (Note: I was a fan of the shuttle service. Otherwise, I would have had trouble getting home.) I highly recommend this shop,and I will definitely return in the future! read more

I was too afraid to keep driving it, instead, I looked up on yelp and found the nearest one to have an inspection, which, turned out to be the start of my unfortune. I was told that something is cutting into my water pump. He tried to show me the CUT. I didn't see anything but some metal pieces. Anyway, he told me I can't drive it home(from Woodland to Davis), otherwise it would die. Okay. He quoted $466.13. No discount. Okay. 07/21/15, He told me the inspector did something wrong or what. It's actually another thing or what. Okay. The price came up to $600ish. What can I do then? My car is in YOUR hands. But he promised to" give me the parts that are being replaced" since I showed my hesitation. 07/22/15, my sister went to pick up my car for me as I have classes. She came back with no parts, but an invoice with $653 charged. I thought, okay, as long as the car is fixed, I am not gonna say anything. Since I commute to school by bus(Davis to Davis) I haven't been driving after my car came back. 07/25/15, on Saturday, we drove to San Francisco. The car ran very rough after 20some miles and had some metal scratching noise AGAIN!!!!! I called this MASTER TECH. A girl answered me. I asked for the replaced parts. She said my car was making noise because of something else. Okay. I asked for the replaced parts again. She said"No, we kept it for two days and threw it." Okay. I was irritated. I WON'T TRY TO CONTACT THEM any more. 20minutes later, my car STOPPED in the middle of the road. 10 more minutes later, it got TOWED to an auto shop.($100) Later I took AMTRAK back to Davis with my sister. 07/27/15, today, I took the AMTRAK again to pick up my car and paid $320. Payments:$653+ $100+$320+ AMTRAK($108 round trip)+ uber($20)=$1201 Okay now, think twice, before you wanna give this place a try. Or just go ahead if you are rich. I'm in debt anyways. These guys are great! We take all of our cars here and have for years. They are honest and don't even charge us when it's something they can't fix. Recently we asked them to fix an issue on a BMW that another mechanic messed up and they were honest and gave us a referral saying they don't work on that issue with BMWs. No charge for the consult. If I had written this review a few months ago it would be five stars. Richard has always been honest and helpful. I've been going there for about 5 years now and I always like how Richard keeps you up to date, and rarely is there anything extra he didn't already mention might be needed. However, I recently had to have a head gasket replaced. The experience was great, until I got the vehicle home. As soon as I got home I open the hood and hear a loose bolt rattling in the hood and drop into oblivion. This causes concern so I scour the engine compartment for loose bolts. I find another one sitting loose on the back of the engine compartment, and 4 other loose bolts I have to tighten. All directly related to the recent work. About 500 miles later the vehicle starts running like crap. I pop the hood again and the freaking distributor, the entire distributor, is hanging from the block. I tighten it back down and take it back to MT (they adjust it and the timing for free, thankfully) but I don't know what damage is already done. Gasket maker was oozing in giant clumps from around the head as well. Way too much was used. Overall quality of work on this job was terrible. I had a fan belt brake earlier this week (luckily this lexus has redundant belts) and found the belts routed incorrectly. That just screams LAZY and lack of quality control. I don't pay certified techs to work on my vehicles for them to guess how things are supposed to work. Unfortunately, me and my 4 cars will not be back. read more

You know, I'm furious with Master Tech! I didn't get the oil change experience I expected. Where were the constant upsells into XYZ that was wrong with my beater? Where was the two hour long wait in a lobby the size of a McDonald's bathroom? Where were the additional fees tacked on that force me to take out another line of credit!? I mean, come on, I can't expect to pay so little for an oil change and get none of this. Where is the service?! :D Had such a good experience there. Everyone seemed genuinely friendly, very little wait, and everything was done perfectly.
