My friend recommended Vickers Automotive when I needed repairs on my car so it could pass smog. They have the best rates in Davis.They charged me $140 flat rate, not hourly. They pulled a code that showed an evaporative emissions issue. They started diagnosing the evap system and they found a faulty evaporative canister solenoid and replaced it for only $158, labor included. They then did more diagnosis on the evap system to make sure there were no other issues, at no extra cost, all covered with the initial $140 flat rate. There were no other issues found. They even filled my windshield wiper fluid which was totally empty, without me asking or telling them it was empty. The person working the front, Jennifer, was very kind and helpful. Friendly people & good customer service. They were able to take me in last minute (same-day) for an oil change, tire rotation and break inspection. Fortunately, my breaks were fine, but they told me my battery was low and recommended that I get it changed. I should've shopped around for the battery as I felt they were overpriced. Oil change $85 ish Tire Rotation $25 ish Battery change $185ish Total came out to be $300 for an oil change, tire rotation and a new battery I could've bought a new battery from Costco for $80-$100. My CRV was experiencing a water leak after the storms the beginning of this year and I chose to come to Vickers to get a diagnostic. I don't have a ton of car knowledge and was a bit anxious going in on my own, so the reviews on their kind customer service led me here. I brought my car right when they opened the day of my appointment and picked my car up the following evening. My timeline was flexible and I didn't immediately need my car, and they made sure to give me updates (I might have called a bunch out of worry) whenever I called. They weren't able to find obvious signs that water was entering my car, but they highly suspected my windshield was the issue and suggested getting it replaced. Since they weren't able to replace it themselves, they only charged me $70 for my diagnostic! They recommended me to UCD Auto Glass and after having my windshield replaced, my problems are solved! I'm glad the team at Vickers was able to help me, they were honest and kind. It was my first time having a real car issue and they took care of me so well. I came in for a last minute walk in because my right headlight went out. They squeezed me in even though they were pretty busy. All I had to do was go next door to the auto shop and buy the headlight bulb myself and they replaced it for me for free. I highly recommend this place especially as a woman!!! I had previously heard of this place by recommendation by a tow trucker when my friend had to get her car towed. My car refused to start while I was in the F-street parking garage and had asked if it was okay if I was able to have my car dropped off at this repair shop. One of the workers gently answered the phone and said that it was fine, but because of their schedule, there was a chance that their mechanics would not be able to get to it until Tuesday (one week later). Because I did not need my car any time soon, I was okay with such a timeline. They did text me 3 days later after a diagnostic test with the estimated repairs. I had to have my starter, radiator, battery, air filter, and one of my headlight bulbs to be fixed. I had already guessed that my starter and my battery were the culprits of why my car did not start, so I did not suspect any unnecessary treatments. I had sent the estimate to my mother and father who wanted to make sure that they did not inflate prices (which they did not), in which the estimate provided was very detailed and itemized each cost. They were able to fix my car the same day I approved all the repairs. Even though they close at 5:30pm, they stayed in the office a little later as I got off work at 5:30pm and was coming from downtown Davis. All of the communication, other than the original phone call, was through text which I really appreciate since I have on-the-phone anxiety. As a young woman in a college town where you can probably take advantage of people living far away from their parents for the first time, these people are highly accommodating, efficient, and honest. I would highly recommend this place to anyone, especially with women who are worried about being taken advantage of. read more

Meant to write this review last month when I saw them. TLDR: When your dealership service center is trying to charge you an arm and a leg, take your car to Vickers for a second opinion! Better yet stop going to anyone else and go to Vickers! I normally take my car to the Hanlees Kia Service Center for my oil change. After this last appointment they told me my car needed a number of fixes including brake lights (which I swear I had just fixed) as well as hood hinge repairs. Basically these repairs plus the ones I haven't mentioned yet would cost me over $1500. I understand my car is older and needs more maintenance but I literally just did a pricey tune-up last year, so I was shocked by the price tag (and also the fact previous technicians who did my oil change never mentioned these repairs). Enter Vickers. I contacted a few local shops in Davis, and I was immediately won over by Vickers receptionist, Stevie. I have to say as a woman speaking with another woman I felt more at ease, if that makes sense. I unfortunately have this fear that male employees of auto shops may take advantage of women customers, like me, since I don't have much knowledge about cars and can be naïve sometimes. I did not feel this way here. Stevie put my mind at ease, listened to what I had to say and explained potentially what my car would need and the process. She was super knowledgeable! I brought my car in the next day and left it there. I did have some trouble finding the place, but it's tucked away behind the NAPA Auto parts. The technicians found that I do not need all of those repairs done. They found that my brake lights had been installed incorrectly the last time they were changed. They only charged me a service fee of $75 telling me my car is basically fine. Much less than the $1500 I might have paid had I gone to my dealership. Vickers has won a customer for life. They were able to flush out my cooling system, replace my power steering liquid and replace other parts and bulbs all for under $1000. They let me know that my drive belt was broken, which I had no idea what that is.. but they fixed it. The oil change is also $10 cheaper than my normal dealership. I took my car in a few weeks ago. I had a hunch it was the distributor, but didn't know exactly. Day 1: I called the shop and got it in the next morning around 9am. I was told it would be ready by the end of the day and that they would call me. I didn't receive a call so I called them and I was told they just got to my car around 2pm. They figured it wasn't the alternator, but it could be the distributor so they ran a test and confirmed it was the Distributor, but it was already to late in the day to get the part, so they said with confirmation, they could get the part the next morning and install it. I didn't have a chance to confirm by the end of the day, so I decided to take a Lyft there in the morning. Day 2: I spoke to John (Jon?) and he said some of my parts were the original parts so he would recommend swapping them. Distributor, spark plugs, and the spark plug wiring. I asked to see an invoice and there was something extra on there, "Relay." I asked what that was for and he said it was a common issue in the car. I figured he was being truthful. BUT, the total came out to around $700. I couldn't afford that. So I asked him to only replace what was needed to get the car started. Wiring and distributor. He gave me a new estimate of $500~. Sure, okay. "It'll be ready by the end of the day. We'll give you a call around 2." Waited and waited. No call. So I called and I was told that they ordered the wrong part. They couldn't get one until the morning, so I would have to wait another day. Day 3: I get a call around 10am. They told me that low and behold, it was never the distributor. Their tool to test it was faulty, so they had to recheck everything and turns out it was the fuel pump and not the distributor. They tell me that the invoice would be $400. "At least it's $100 cheaper than the original invoice. That fuel pump should get you out the door and running." At that point, I should be running and jumping with joy, but no. I research a bit, a fuel pump is $80-$100. On the invoice, it says $200. So that struck me as odd that they would charge double for that part. My assumption here is that the amount of time they had to keep the car and look at it wasn't worth $300. So they upcharged me on that part since they weren't getting $500+. Why else would he tell me that "it was cheaper than the previous invoice." I guess that's just how shops are and need to run and make a living, I totally get it. But I felt like I was being taken advantage of because I'm just a college student that needed help with his car. Tread lightly, do your research. TLDR: Kept being told I would get car same day, but due to their tool issues didn't get my car back for 3 days. Was charged double for a part and almost charged for doing a couple of extra things that I didn't need done. "This would get you back on the road." I feel like there was honesty, just some dishonesty and advantage taking. BUT my car was fixed. So there's that. read more

I have an old Subaru (1998 with 260,000 miles) and they always tell me exactly what is broken, about to break, or probably going to break sometime soon. And most importantly for an old car, they tell me what's CRUCIAL versus what's ADVISABLE. I just took my car in for a fix and they noticed my battery wasn't charging well and I'd gotten it from Napa next door. So they replaced it with the warrantee, free of charge.
