I came in for a recent oil change. There was an issue afterwards of oil splattering on the underside of the car when the oil filter was removed. I let them know and their owner's response was tremendous - they cleaned everything, checked all the oil levels, and were extremely personable and generous with their response. We can't expect everything to be done perfectly, but businesses can always control their response to an issue. They responded wonderfully and won my future business. read more

Went with my wife to do an oil change for her car. The oil change itself was fine, but she showed me pictures of her center console before and after we dropped the car off. It was clear someone rummaged through it. Nothing was taken, but it was still unsettling. We won't be coming back here anymore. I've been coming to this place since 2024 to get my car serviced in Davis since I am not from around here. Everytime I've needed to get an oil change, the employees have been respectful and I was charged reasonably for their services. In the early part of June I came to get my car serviced as usual, and one employee recommended that I change out my sparkplug, whether it be now or later since my car was past the 120,000 miles that they recommended changing it at. I told her I would most likely come back another time, as the 280 seemed a bit steep for me at the time. She gave me a receipt for my services that day, and included a written quote for the 280 for when I returned. Today, I came back expecting to change my sparkplugs for 280, but they told me the price went up to 360, an additional 80 dollars. Furthermore, I even talked to the same employee that quoted me 280 for the sparkplug last time, and she informed me that prices recently changed. Whether or not the prices changed, I was informed that I would be quoted 280, and to me, it feels a bit scummy to add an additional 80 dollars for coming a month later, especially being a customer that regularly gets their car serviced here. Overall, my experience here was reasonable up to this point, but I would not recommend coming here. I felt that I was not valued as a returning customer because they did not uphold their inital agreement. read more

This was my first oil change ever, and let me tell you, it was the easiest experience I've ever had at a business. I pulled in, and the friendly associates greeted me. They explained the oil change options for my high-mileage car. Afterward, they had a nice waiting area with vending machines, a clean bathroom, and an outdoor shaded waiting area with chairs. I've been here twice for an oil change, once for tires, and back multiple times to deal with the issues I experienced after the tire change. When I got my oil changed, the mechanic recommended I get new tires as my tread was down to the recommended level. I got my oil changed and they did not reset the oil change indicator light, which is not a huge deal since I pay attention to the car's mileage, but it's happened both times I've gotten my oil changed. The tires are why I am giving a one star review. The price the mechanic quoted me and his explanation for needing new tires and showing me the tread depth had assured me that I needed new tires and would get them here. When I returned a few weeks later, the same mechanic that had informed me with a detailed explanation that I needed new tires, suddenly told me that I didn't need new ones. When I told him that he was the one who has recommended them to me, he just shrugged. I asked him to re-measure the depth of all the tires and turns out only some of them needed to be changed. I should not have ignored this red flag, but I did and had them change my tires. I am now more experienced with my car so I will not get myself into a situation like this again. Over the next few weeks, I had a series of slow leaks and flats, leading to 4 roadside assistance calls for each of the four tires, and 2 visits back to Spee-dee (and 2 visits somewhere else) where the issue each time was that the valve-stem was leaking and was faulty. I do not like to leave bad reviews, but it is especially disappointing to me that all the of mechanics and front desk staff are very nice and kind, yet I encounter extremely frustrating issues. read more

I would give this review zero stars if I could. I came to speedee-midas to get my brake pads fixed in January. I dropped the car off Friday afternoon and picked it up the next day. To my surprise, multiple items from my car were gone that totaled over $500. When I returned my ski jacket, helmet, and pickleball paddles were all missing out of the car.I had to file a police report after. To make matters worst, my brakes still make noise and they did a terrible job fixing them. Never give this place your business. They are not reliable and I will never return back. read more

My car's catalytic converter was stolen in January. I was super confused and concerned about what that meant for driving it and how to fix it so I took it in to SpeeDee. They ordered in a new part but it was on back order so they worked up an estimate to send to my insurance. Teresa was super helpful! Whenever I called she always knew who I was and was up to date on my car information. She always gave me updates on the replacement catalytic converter and helped me work with my insurance agent to make sure it was covered. She even told me they could rebar it to make sure it didn't happen again. She made this stressful process a lot easier and she was super easy to communicate and work with! If you have a kid at Davis and need an oil change, tell them to go somewhere else. I sent my college age daughter out for her first oil change. I do most of my own maintenance on her car and changed the cabin and engine air filter a month before she visited Speedee. And I told her if they up-sold her to take notes, and let them know I'd look at it. She gets the oil change, and they tell her the air filter is dirty and needs replacing. Oldest trick in the book. They saw a rube and tried to take advantage. I double checked the next week when she was home, and that filter was still pristine. I use SpeeDee in my hometown and never has this issue. My Dad took my car here and was never notified that my engine had a missing oil filter. Apparently SpeeDee knew this and put it in their records then let my dad leave with the car! I came back 5 THOUSAND MILES LATER for them to finally tell me I have been driving without a filter letting all the metal shaving/debris float around in my engine. I asked what could have happened if I didn't come in sooner and they said my engine could have failed. I could have needed an entirely new car because of this. They had no explanation for me as to what happened the last time my car was there and said someone must have forgotten to put it back in last time. And then they tried to charge me $45 to replace air filters that cost $6 and 5 minutes to replace. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

This is my first time come to this place in 8/13 for the oil change , the service is good but the price is higher than what I think about. The price for the labor costs 108 dollars and plus oil was like total around 190 . They told me my oil is special order but still doesn't make sense that labor cost 108 Which compares to the niello dealer ship more expensive 40 bucks . I wasn't sure if they add the unfair labor cost in this service. Fast and easy. The cost is a little pricey, especially for synthetic oil but sometimes you can get the $10 off Davis coupon. I typically spend 80+ dollars because of the synthetic oil which is typical for newer vehicles. They'll also inspect and check other parts of your car and give you suggestions on things to replace, but they aren't pushy about it. Overall it's fast, and if you don't go during the lunch times, you can get your car back within 30 minutes. Hope that helps! read more

I added Oil-stop-leak to my engine (will never do that again) and the oil pressure light came on. I checked the oil level and color, everything was fine. I asked my mother to take the car to Midas for an oil change. They said we should do a diagnosis. Assuming that they would at least do an oil pressure test I agreed. What they end up doing was check the oil level and color, listen to the engine and suggest that we should use an additive and change the oil and the oil pressure switch and see if the problem will be solved or not! Just changing things (I had to pay for them) and see if the problem goes away or not. It would have been alright with me to do so, but they charged me $110 for "diagnosis"! Not only they didn't do a real diagnosis, but also asked to change the oil pressure switch while they had not confirmed that it was bad. Indeed, I asked them not to change the switch and everything was fine after changing the oil. (Based on their "diagnosis", it is not clear if the additive was needed). I went back and asked them nicely what they did beside checking the oil level and color as part of their diagnosis. After some back and forth, all I was getting was "we have to agree to disagree". read more

Meh. I needed a muffler and I got one, but not the same kind that I had. One would think that they would talk to you about that before they weld it to your vehicle. The workmanship is ok I hope. The muffler is on but the welds are so bad Im taking it somewhere else to see if it will hold and if I have exhaust leaks. Their price was ok had the work been done well, their customer service was minimal at best, and their work was serviceable. This will not be my place where I take my cars if I have the option. I gave them another try because they are walking distance from my house. Im bummed because I like supporting my neighborhood business. I feel bad writing this but my hope is if they read this they will teach their employees customer service and maybe work on their culture as a whole. read more

I don't know what gives with the bad reviews. I went in here today to get my car checked out after procrastinating on the Maintenance Required light for too long lol. I had a coupon for $29.99 oil change (which also included checking fluids, air pressure, etc.) which is a better deal than most places around here seem to have. Dave was the one who worked on my car, and he was really cool! (And didn't judge my messy car haha) He found some potential issues since my car is so old, but didn't rush me to get them fixed right then and there. Even so, the quotes they gave me were reasonable. I might go back Saturday to have Dave finish up some more work my car needs. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a reliable and honest mechanic. Just had my oil change here and had a much better experience. Fast service and super friendly nice people. Only had to wait 30 minutes and I didn't make an appointment. I had called another place to get a quote for an oil change for my car that uses full synthetic and requires 6 quarts. Was told there would be a bunch of different add-ons, extra quart was $10, my car needed some special part that was $10...on and on, the total this other place gave me was $100. I came to Speedee and my total that included the full service oil change (6 quarts of synthetic) PLUS replacing the engine air filter (which was way overdue) was $100, no random add-ons. I've been to the F street Midas at least half a dozen times now for oil changes, tune-ups, and repairs. Every visit is great. The whole staff is friendly, listens closely, and takes me seriously. (I'd especially recommend this place to women who have gotten eye rolls and condescending comments at other auto shops.) Work is done quickly and oil change prices are on par with other shops in town. I also second the review that says they tell you about all the issues they find but are also honest-- e.g. your car won't fall apart if you wait to change your cabin air filter. Overall, a very good experience from the folks at Spee-Dee. I had my daughter's Toyota RAV4 old change done in about about 50 minutes. I didn't wait there, but they had plenty of seating inside and mostly shaded seating in the front patio. I found a really nice trail that is just west of F st. On Covell and had a good walk/run while the car was worked on. Marcos was very professional when I got there. Brianna was at the register desk and was also very courteous. I bought an expensive tire here about 6 months ago and the tire now has wall damage. I called to see if anything could be done or if by chance, it was covered under warranty. I was told it was not and that I needed to have purchased that at the time of purchasing the tire. I was never offered this. When I asked if they could even offer a discount to purchase a new tire, they said no. I will never buy tires here again. I went to America's Tire Shop in West Sacramento, and was offered a discount, even though it wasn't bought at their shop, because the tire was so new! I live with n W Sacramento & had driven there on 4 separate occasions needing a Smog Check that failed to take the report to the DMV all they did was give me the runaround long story short they promised if I was there before 8 am when they opened they'd get me in first so... set my alarm for 6 am not to miss drive alllll the way there once again then they came out & said oh... for older vehicles our computer doesn't work mind you they knew it was an 97 all along.... called & spoke with the owner who said she'd get back to me... never heard from her again. Never recommending them to anyone. You don't do that to customers you let them know up front that they're not able to smog older vehicles not after 1/2 tank of gas & several Mike's if driving to them. Pathetic. read more
