My aunt has been coming here for a good 12 years or so and had recently passed away so her 2014 rav4 needed an oil change at 31k miles as it's been sitting for over a year. I also checked with reddit and many people suggested Vander Hamm instead of hanlee toyota or Aaa, as someone sometimes in the car industry I'm picky about the Quality of work and a professional transaction. I called them from Torrance CA a week ahead & arranged to show up 4/24 and I ended up coming an hour early and they squeezed me in, I dealt with Blane White and he was professional on the phone and in person, the car was dropped off around 9am and finished at 1030am exactly as promised, and they gave it a good once over and quoted me on replacing the Tpms sensors for 110$ each, which is reasonable, as the dealer wanted 250-300 each sensor, so I will definitely consider it. Great place super professional and honest and there's no drama. Highly recommend, and make an appointment as it's a busy place. read more

Vander Hamm has severely fallen off in their service quality and their honesty is nonexistent these days. $250 for an inspection I know they did not even perform. Flakes in my engine oil, transmission fluid leak, missing a sway bar, ball joints completely worn, tie rod ends also completely worn...not one of those items mentioned in their inspection report. $100 to install a turn switch indicator...didn't work properly when I received the car back. No comment on it. Did not even attempt to test it before giving it back to me. Gents at the front desk are polite but have no integrity or they simply just don't care. Severely disappointing as this shop used to be the definition of outstanding service. You're better off selling a kidney and going to the dealership, these guys will just cut corners until there's a major repair they can overcharge you for. read more

Thank you Vander Hamm! Straight forward drop off and pick up, accurate quote, fair prices, and great service. Came in thinking I may need new brakes and an alignment. However, they were honest and let me know my brakes were actually fine and the problem was with my alignment as well as an additional adjustment. I felt $130 for the alignment + $100 for the additional adjustment was very fair, especially in this economy. As soon as I picked it up I noticed a drastic positive difference in steering, handling and braking! I will definitely come back in the future. read more

Vander Hamm Tires are great. They perform almost every automotive maintenance service, (including oil changes), although they specialize in tires. They have just about any brand/type of tire you could need, including an excellent selection of winter-weather tires that are critical for safe Tahoe ski trips. Excellent service--they listen to your concerns and help address them, never pushing a sale for the sake of money. I have, on multiple occasions, come in with a problem before they politely direct me to another shop because they can either do it better or faster. Their options are great and they will set you up with the right tire for your use case, never upselling a more expensive product if they don't think it's necessary. I used to get all my tires from Costco, but with these guys local here in Davis and providing free rotations, Vander Hamm is where the rubber meets the road for me! Vander Hamm's is our GoTo tire store. We had a slow leak in our right front tire that other shops simply filled with air. Vander Hamm found the screw in the sidewalk and replaced the tire on the same day. And they cheerfully replaced our windshield wiper blades as we were checking out. I cannot speak highly enough of Vander Hamm. My family had a series of unfortunate events beginning with our vehicle breaking down south of Davis on our way to Southern California. The place does good service. They can be quite busy, so you need to plan ahead. We've been taking our two cars here for some time, as the shop is somewhat within walking distance and doesn't try to upsell us anything. All in all a solid shop. Love this place. Had to swing by them for free air for my tires a few times. No questions asked and so friendly. Felt the need to give them real business when I needed new tires. Bought tire warranties that they offer, $15 or something like that for unlimited patches and new tire if something happens. Love the piece of mind. Great and honest services! I went to another car repair shop for a flat tire. I was told my two rear tires are so badly wore out and need replacement for $800. I drove to Vanderbilt hamm tire center. Replaced all four tires, Pirelli, at a cost of almost $1,500.00. At the very least they could've cleaned up the goop and shined the outside of the tires. DO NOT GO HERE! I went in, filled out a credit application (credit score hovers around 800) and the guy SPENT AN HOUR TRYING TO PROCESS IT! His LAME AF "excuse" was "We don't process many credit applications here" - Yeah...BS!!! 90% of their purchases are ON CREDIT!!! I went to ask the manager gal hiding in the office if she could help the guy process my application because, "it was taking an UNACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF TIME to process. She rudely replied, "I don't know how to process credit, we don't do a lot of those here" (LIE!) I took my 05 Nissan Xterra to Vanderhamm because there was a grinding noise coming from the front end whenever I took sharp corners. The mechanic, Collin, noticed my front hubs had some play and had damaged my rotors. We replaced both, but the grinding noise did not disappear, so I took it back, and Collin realized it was actually just the traction control motor kicking in. My shocks were so worn out (190k miles) that when taking sharp turns, the wheels couldn't track properly and they would trigger the TC. I expressed to Danny, the manager, that I felt kinda sour about spending all that money without fixing the issue. He comped the whole invoice--parts and labor. There was no hassle, no arguing, they just printed me a check and sent me on my way. A case could be made that I needed those hubs and rotors anyways, but Danny didn't split hairs, he just made sure we could both feel good about the transaction, and I really respect the way he handled the situation. Collin also drives an Xterra, and he let me pick his brain about specific repairs/upgrades I might want to make in the future. Blaine at the front desk was super friendly and helpful throughout this whole process, and while I was in the shop, I got to see him treat other customers the same way. He was jovial, respectful, and knowledgeable. My experience with Vanderhamm throughout this process has been so good I decided to replace some other worn-out front-end parts and get new tires there as well. My Xterra drives whisper quiet and buttery smooth now! Moving forward, I will be going there for rotations and maintenance and I cannot recommend them enough! read more

Got a new set of tires same day; they got my specs and had them brought out from their warehouse. This was a nice surprise - I'd thought I would have to wait days for them to arrive before install. Cost was competitive with what I would have spent at Costco; I was willing to spend a little more considering the same day install. Bonus for them getting me back to my home and picking me up later in the day as well as the outstanding organic eggs they sell from a little fridge in the showroom. They also did a great job with aligning the tires after install. The place was pretty busy when I dropped off and picked up; after my great experience I understand why. read more

Honestly I have no idea how this place gets five stars reviews on Yelp. It took them three times to fix an issue on my car. I took my car for an inspection the first time and they said everything looked good. The day I took the car home it started making noise. I took the car back again and this time suddenly there is an issue and i was quoted a thousand bucks for. So I told myself ok it's my bad luck and the guy probably missed it the first time he checked the car. I paid up and they "fixed" the car. I drive the car home and everything seems good. Until I took the car on the highway a day later and guess what the noise appeared again. I had to take the car back a third time. The guy inspected it and said there was another issue. They were "kind enough" to not charge me anything this time because maybe they were embarrassed as well that their mechanic takes three tries to fix an issue? TLDR: had to visit the mechanic three times to fix a issue. Major time consumed and costly. read more

I absolutely cannot say enough positive things about this shop. I just moved here from NJ and failed smog because of an aftermarket cold air intake my husband installed on my car, so we had to put the OEM part back into the vehicle. Danny gave me a quote of $180 and it only ended up costing 1/2 of that amount. They took my car in promptly at 8AM and I'm glad I got there a little bit early because 10 people came in behind me, so it looks like Davis knows where to go for excellent mechanics.
