Have been coming to get oil changed here for a few years. The staff are friendly, the service is reliable, and they have great prices.

I've been to this place a couple of times now. Two times for oil changes and once for fixing a broken connector for my blinker. They've always been super nice and accommodating. I never feel like I'm getting jipped on price and they're always honest. Be sure to check online for coupons on their website. read more

I've had my oil changed now 3 different times at SpeeDee in Davis. Each time they were efficient, courteous and as their name says, speedy! I don't mind paying for services I need, filters etc but they have never tried to sell me something I didn't need, which I appreciate. Will return again when I need their services! read more

Update: after their service caused a car accident that could have been really serious and I called to complain and wrote this yelp review no one has ever contacted me from Midas to 1) apologize 2) offer me my money back on the service 3) again, apologize. I called ahead to see what the wait was and was told 20-30 minutes for a smog test. I got there and again was quoted 20-30 minutes. After 40 minutes, they told me it would be another 20 minutes because the mechanic had another car in front of me... something you would think they would notice when quoting a time in the first place. During my time in the waiting room I witnessed them delay other customers by not being able to find someone's file because her name was "hard". Another woman that had agreed to have her air filter replaced was then told after waiting "I forgot to tell you that your headlight is out" so she had that replaced too. By the time I left 20 minutes after she had agreed to the headlight, they told her that they don't have it in stock and that they are waiting for it to be delivered but that it shouldn't be too much longer... They clearly don't respect people's time. Quote a time that is realistic. Better to overestimate and surprise people when it actually is done in 20-30 minutes. read more

My bother took the car for a oil change and next thing I know he comes back without the car cause in the shop they said it was critical to change the radiator, which had a crack. when we go back to pick up the car, the guy basically said the engine was damaged since some oil was in the pistons (which is true) and basically game me 4 options: 1. Replace the valves and spark plugs (around 1700$) 2. drive the car until it dies 3. replace the whole engine (around 2700$) 4. sell the car as it is (worth no more than 800$ according to them). Very dissapointed I took the car to Davis Express Lube to get a second opinion, and they fixed the problem for a fraction of this prices. Every minute counts! Or, so I tell myself. I go to Speedee b/c they're almost always quick and efficient. They're even open on Sundays. Other than oil changes, you can get simple car things done here as well, like tire rotations for $15. My favorite thing about this place is that they don't talk down to me because I'm female. I hate going to car places with greasy car mechanics talking to me like I'm an idiot who doesn't know the difference between changing my oil and topping off the washer fluid for my windows. Anyway, enough ranting about bad places, this place isn't one of them. Cost: Tire rotation and Oil Change (with engine cover) and $5 coupon: $45.15. ** No 5 stars b/c they're quick only most and not all of the times I've been there. The first time i got my oil changed here, it was a rather pleasant visit. I came around noon and before I even had my books out of my backpack it was time for me to pay and skidaddle. This time, however...a little different. I came in at 2 and was told it would be about half an hour. That made me a little nervous because i had class at 3. I went and sat in the waiting room and I swear to you I thought I was in the North Pole. I was this close to thinking I was about to see Santa. Maybe about 40-45 minutes later the guy comes in and tells me I am ready but also says to me I am at the starting point of having a couple things go wrong. He suggests a transmission flush and I believe an oil flush. I asked if that would fix the problem. He gives me a maybe. Maybe? If I am going to be paying close to 200 bucks for service, I don't want a maybe. I want a yes or a no. Thankuverymuch. He also said they vacuumed out my car the best they could. Yeah so I know my car is a little dirty. I am a student. I pretty much live in my car. No such vacuuming took place. Boo hiss. Jiffy Lube, I am sorry I cheated on you. Please forgive me. read more

I agree with some of the previous comments... no idea why this place has such a low rating. Went in for an oil change and was extremely happy with the results. Incredible staff.. super friendly and attentive. No one tried to sell anything, they just gave me recommendations...the fixes they recommended are fixes I know I need to take care of... completely honest techs. The front desk ladies were super welcoming and gave me a $10 discount... only payed $31 which I believe it's a pretty amazing price for an oil change here in Davis. Everyone was really nice, but my overall experience wasn't so great and I won't be back. I called ahead for a SMOG check and was informed that it took about half an hour to perform the check. I set up the appointment an hour before I needed to be at work (which is only 10 minutes away from the shop). Even if they ran over by ten minutes, I would still get to work early. I showed up at the appointed time and no one was at the SMOG check station. I told one of the servicemen that I had an appointment and asked if I needed to go inside to get help. He informed that he could perform the test and that I could wait inside if I wanted to. I asked, again, how long the appointment would take and he confirmed that it would be about half an hour. By the time I walked into the waiting room, it was 8 minutes past my appointment time. I wasn't worried because even if took 40 minutes at that point, I could still get to work on time. Needless to say, I was very disappointed that it was not 30 or even 40 minutes but one hour past my appointment time when I was finally able to pay my bill and leave. Unfortunately, it also happened to be the time I was supposed to be at work. I've got a pretty busy schedule and I have to creatively rearrange it to get extras (like getting my car SMOGed) in. If I had been told it would take an hour before hand it wouldn't have been a problem, I would have rearranged my schedule so that it would have worked (even if it meant being more inconvenient for me). Instead, I was ten minutes late to work. Despite having a coupon, I still feel pretty irked about paying $50 for a service that kept me from getting to my job on time. read more

Saturday afternoon 4:35pm pulled up for an oil change, simple in and out 20 minutes tops. One truck in the bay and it looks like they're almost done. The young lady walks out after joking around with male staff and asks how she could help. I ask for a simple oil change and without missing a beat. "we don't have time left today" time was then 4:40. Sign says they close at 5. Be honest and tell me your trying to get out early but don't lie to my face, There are plenty of other shops that provide excellent service. They will receive my money not Spee Dee. Life is to short to deal with bad service. read more

Totally worth the drive from south Sacramento. I had previously worked in Davis for 13 years and came here faithfully for oil changes for both my and my wife's vehicles the entire time. Outstanding staff and deft customer service. I took another job in Sacramento in May of 2018 and needed an oil change that same month. I found a place conveniently around the corner from my new office, but it was more expensive, didn't include the 17 point inspection, and the personal touch was sadly absent. I would go on to try two more locations in Sacramento and never found what I had in SpeeDee. So I decided that I had made a big mistake in taking my business elsewhere and I decided to start making the trek back out to Davis for my oil changes. This place is great and well worth the drive. First, I want to say that I don't understand why this business has had the misfortune of getting bad reviews. I have met many bad mechanics over the years. However, Randy & Teresa run a terrific auto service operation. They are top notch (which is truly hard to come by these days). One of their competing oil changers/brake repair vendors didn't have time last weekend to service my brakes. Therefore, I gave Randy & Teresa a try. Their workmanship (complete four wheel brake job) and customer service was top notch and I had my truck back within 5 hours. Accordingly, SpeeDee-Midas is now our family's "go to" mechanic. We are very happy to have met Randy & Teresa and we look forward to returning time and time again. KUDOS to a job very well done!!! read more

Great service. My friend had a battery problem and someone recommended that we should come here. The guys were friendly and very helpful. They let my friend know everything about what was going on and how to fix it. And the best thing was it didn't take long. We were out of there in under an hour. Oh wait, the best thing was this really cute mechanic. There's just something hot about a guy working on a car. But not all of them are young and cute, so watch out. And the register area didn't seem so clean. I think I saw a candy dispenser with candy that was dying inside. read more

i've read really good reviews about this on Daviswiki.com, and I thought I'd check it out. I've gone to Jiffy Lube in South Davis before, but since January 2009 they had closed that location (I don't know if they re-opened it..) PROS: - I randomly came by for an oil change, and they were able to accommodate me! I LOVE WALK-INS OF ANYTIME - Like I said, I read the reviews on DavisWiki. People voiced their honest concerns, and the manager actually replied! She even suggested for unhappy customers to come in so they could clear up anything - $36.99 for a conventional oil change seemed pretty sweet... - The staff seems friendly but not over-bearing. Espesh good for someone who doesn't know much about cars! haha - The mechanic would explain everything that needed to be done before he actually did it and charged me CONS: - I got really excited because I saw a note for their Secure WiFi Code, but I wasn't able to get it to connect. I have been going to this Speedee for years now. Despite having moved out of Davis, I still go here because I have tried many other places for oil changes and I always seem to compare them against this Speedee. They have fantastic customer service, in my opinion. Theresa, in particular, is so warm and friendly. She's always got a smile on her face and seems to genuinely care about her customers! I think she might be the owner, but I'm not sure. I also like going here because they really don't pressure you into getting services you might not think you need. They usually bring extra services up during your consultation but they aren't pushy about, more just informative. Their mechanics are very professional and friendly, not to mention, also very quick with their services! I definitely recommend this Speedee location, they're about the same price as anywhere else you could go for a simple oil change, but they offer a much more pleasant experience than the rest! read more

Most expensive shop in Davis by DOUBLE while having poor customer service! Midas quoted me $40! Davis tire pro $20 Bernard's $20 New & Used outlet $20 America's tire in Sac said they would do it for free in hopes I buy future tires from them. Manager on duty at 2:10-2:30 on 9/13 was an a$$hole. I called at 2:12, spoke to the manager, and was told if I came over right then they could get me in and out. I told him it would take me 10m to get there, and he said it was okay. I showed up at 2:18, and then had to wait to 2:25 to talk to anyone. Finally talked to someone and the wait time was much longer than discussed on the phone 15m earlier. There was a bay open, but they only had one mechanic and he was in the middle of a tire change. Everyone else was a lube tech. Therefore it would be a minimum of 3:30 before they could unbolt my wheels/tire and bolt on my other set of wheels/tires (summer set of tires/wheels and winter set). 1 hour plus for 20 bolts is not a quick in and out. When I worked in America's tires we averaged 12 minutes per car to take off tires, mount new tires on the wheels, balance them, then mount the wheels on the car. I complained to the manager - the manager I had spoken on the phone with - and he told me I was lying about our phone call and the discussed time frame. He said the phone calls are recorded and he could play it back for us. I said great, let's hear our conversation but he refused to play it or speak to me further. Amazing service! This is the best tire shop in Davis and I've been to almost all of them.

Great service- minus for a comment made by one of the techs and the hour wait. Brought my car in for an oil change, got the high-mileage oil since my car has 195k on it (most oil places are really pushy, this place wasn't). We waited on the outside patio since the lobby seats were all full, and the free wifi was nice while we waited. Once they brought my car forward, one of the techs (not the one that first did the paperwork) yelled "wow, that's a messed up truck!"-- trust me, it's not that bad. My car was in a minor accident a couple years ago and getting it fixed would cost more than the value of the car (11 yrs), but if this guy wants to fix it, he is welcome to ;) When they were done the tech brought me back to my car to go over everything, he suggested new tires soon and gave me a quote to take home with me which was nice, and he mentioned they noted the front end damage. I commented "yes, we heard him". I don't think they realized my sister and I were sitting outside but he looked pretty embarrassed for what his coworker said. When it was time to checkout, we used a coupon for $7 which was nice as well! I used to go here b,cus they're cheaper and convenient. Then they twice put the wrong coolant (I have a Chrysler) in my car. The 2nd time I had said specifically " do not add coolant if you don't have the right type"; they added the wrong stuff and argued with me that they knew better. Never going back read more

Don't waste your time here. From the very start, the experience was negative. The guy who walked up to my car (older man, blue eyes, with an accent) didn't even say hello. Then when asked what oil my car uses, I said what I thought it was and he goes "Ok, well that doesn't really tell me anything. So you don't even know." Alright, so that is something I should know, but that's no reason to be rude. Then he said, "Well are you planning on waiting here or leaving your car with us? Because it'll be about an hour." To change oil??? That shouldn't be more than 20 minutes. Ridiculous. Needless to say, I left. He didn't seem to care about losing the business, either. 2 stars for being friendly..that's about it. Staff will tell you things your car needs. Don't believe them. They told me my car had a code..that I had checked after leaving their shop. Code was never found. And job I got done fixed my car, had nothing at all to do with their expert advice. I recommend you don't any serious work here. I've been a customer for 2 years. I commute approximately 800 miles per week, so I get an oil change often. One time, they didn't top off fluids or vacuum. Another time the air filter rattled until my husband fixed it. No big deal. However, twice now I've been turned away (2:15pm & 2:30pm) on a Saturday for being "too close" to closing time. I don't mean to sound like a "get off my lawn" old jerk... but in my years of retail, if we advertised we closed at 3pm then this is the moment we stopped accepting customers. (Not 30-45 minutes beforehand.) I'll be taking my business elsewhere from now on. read more

I've been a "regular" at this place for the last four years for a reason: SpeeDee-Midas in Davis is consistently good. Just recently I took my car in to get my brake pads replaced. It was somehow overlooked by me and their system that I had my brake pads replaced about a year prior (I often drive on mountain roads) and that a lifetime warranty was in effect for the brake pads so I should not have been charged for the parts, just the labor. When I double-checked my purchase history to verify the lifetime warranty and brought this up, they were honest, helpful, and immediately refunded me. Special thanks to Melissa (helped me at front desk) and David (who answered my question about the refund) for the great customer service. I'm sure I'll find my way back here in several months. the oil change is ok...except that, both time I went there they asked me to change tire or change battery...the most recent time, my battery is dead and they told me I need to change for a new one. I knew my battery is still new so I refused it. The people there were apparently upset and told me well you have to get the car out of here and we can not even start your car right now. I suggest them to give it a shot with jumper and they were very reluctant to do so. Once the car started, I drove it on freeway for an hour then the battery is all good again. I seriously feel this place is trying to take most money out of you, without a good attitude and also being dishonest. I do not recommend it to anyone who needs more than oil change... read more

My son is a student at Davis. The car he's driving needed smogging before registration. These guys charged him $80 for a smog inspection! 'Pricey' is an understatement! And, it didn't pass (but that's expected - it's an old car that is always 'borderline'). They gave him a list of over $400 worth of repairs that were needed - and Speedee offered to do them. I swapped cars with my son and took it to my local mechanic at home in another city. Every one of the repairs Speedee suggested was termed ''bogus' by my local, trusted mechanic. An expensive smog inspection, a list of expensive repairs - hope they don't treat all Aggie students this way. read more
