Your classic we-want-to-screw-you-over auto shop. I came here on a Sunday because they were the only place open and my tire wasn't holding air. I am a college student and am used to being screwed over by mechanics, so my boyfriend who wasn't in town, called ahead and talked to one of the workers, explained what had happened to my tire, and asked if they could fix it. They told him to send me over. I got there and they looked at my tire right away; the gentleman who helped me (can't remember his name) immediately told me he couldn't fix it, and then proceeded to try to sell me four new tires. I have recently been to my trusted mechanic, and am aware that neither of my rear tires were near needing replacing. I declined the new tires and asked if there was anything he could do to help me today; his only option was to leave the car there for a few days while they figured out where to get the wheel from. In the mean time he tried to sell me two new wheels at a much higher price than I have since been able to find elsewhere. As a last resort I requested that they help me loosen my lug nuts so that I could get my spare on, since they were too tight and no one was home to help me; both him and the manager refused to help me even though they were not extremely busy. The demeanor of the people who helped me here was less than desirable, and I felt completely screwed over. For the record, Big O repaired my wheel and tire the next day within a matter of hours, and the repair is holding up quite well. read more

Have to give these guys a down-grade to two stars after my most recent experience with them. I came with my own filter and (nylon/plastic) washer and asked that they be used. The clerk said that they wouldn't recommend the plastic washer and that they use copper ones. I said fine. When I went to change my oil myself a few months later I found that they did use my filter, but they didn't use a new washer! They just re-used the plastic one I put on for the previous change! Lazy lazy lazy. Next time I'll insist they tape the old one to the receipt or I won't pay. read more

Prices for oil change went up. They add extra charges (not just for the additional oil) to the bill so don't believe the advertised price. The cost of oil change is more than the dealer's cost. For this cost better go to the dealer. read more

I must say that I have had a good experience every time I have been there until this last time. I had my oil changed there and shortly thereafter noticed that it was leaking around the drain plug so I brought it in figuring that they either seeded it wrong or it needed a new washer and expected that they would fix it, but no. they told me some bogus story about someone tampering with it and they wanted to charge me to fix it and the man was rather rude to me about it as well. My wife had an oil change and noticed the glove box out of whack from them checking the cabin filter. Since I replaced the cabin filter myself many times I knew right away they couldn't figure out how to get the glove box back. Sure enough when I open the glove box the dampener was not seated on the hinge. In addition to that when I opened the filter cover, the filter was placed in backwards and smashed out of shape. What's really irritating is that they claim that the glove box was already misaligned and the filter was already damaged. This was obviously after the fact when they couldn't figure out how to put the glove box back properly, because when my wife paid the woman said she "needed to add something" then threw away the old receipt and replaced it with a new one stating that the glove box was already misaligned prior to service. We did not ask for this service and I recommend that you tell them not to mess with the cabin filter unless you want them pulling out your glove box, not putting it back properly, then lying about it. read more

Melisa at SpeeDee really makes this place run! Her friendliness and straight forwardness made me feel really taken care of. The prices were really affordable (I did a SMOG check and got an oil change). Plus the staff (who were also really nice!) vacuumed my car's interior, and checked my tire pressure which I was not expecting and was pleasantly surprised. I'll definitely be coming back and telling my friends that this is the place to go! read more

Randy, the owner and one of the main mechanics, is as honest as they come. Instead of him installing a part on my car that we thought might solve my problem (but was no guarantee) and run the risk of it being a different part that needed replacing if this didn't work, he did some research and called me while my car was in for the repair and recommended not doing what we were originally going to do. We now think it is a much bigger problem and have decided to hold off. He could have easily installed the part I wanted him to install and if it didn't work well then it must be this part and so on and so on until we finally got it fixed some $3000.00 later. Other mechanics would have done that and the dealer most definitely would have. I have used Randy and Speedee for some years now and I've always come away happy. Honest, quick, and just friendly people. Can't recommend them enough! read more

I LOVE this place. I have been bringing my cars here for oil changes and tune-ups for many many years. The service is wonderful. The owner is very personable and has always remembered me by name, even from the beginning. Also, they are completely trustworthy. I have brought my car in for major servicing and been told that it doesn't need it. I know that they will tell me if something on my car needs attention, but will not try to make extra money by recommending unneeded services. Sure, I can get an oil change for a few dollars cheaper, but the peace of mind I get by bringing my car here is worth the extra money. read more

From out of town on our way to Seattle on a Sunday when the truck lost power and was getting an intermittent flashing check engine light. We limped from I-505 to Davis and found SpeeDee Oil/Midas open. Talked with the owner/mechanic (there on a Sunday!) and he informed that the chance of getting parts may be doubtful once they found the problem. They said it would be $95 for the analysis so I said go ahead and walked to a nearby shopping center they recommended for lunch. Got a call about 45 minutes later and was told it was a fuel injector and couldn't get the part until tomorrow. This was a trip with my daughter just back from college to family not seen in 12 years and only 5 days to do it in so I needed to decide whether to leave the truck and rent a car or wait for the repairs. Just had the truck in the shop last month to replace a fuel injector and the year before a coil so I knew what to expect. SpeeDee called around and found a rent-a-car and told me they would take us to them. Decided to wait for repairs and walked back to the shop. The owner suggested a few places to stay and told me to save my money on a cab and drove us to a nice motel downtown close to lots of restaurants. Next day I called in and Tereasa said they were waiting on a gasket from Sacramento due to arrive 12:30. A little before noon, Tereasa called back and said the truck was ready. The owner came and picked us up and took us to the shop. We were on the road within 10 minutes. The total bill was about $100 less than what I paid in Mountain View, CA at a independent shop specializing in Toyotas even though the injector was almost $90 less. SpeeDee knew we were in a hurry and had told us Sunday what the part may cost and that they would look for a cheaper supplier, but I told them time was critical. The experience with the shop was professional, friendly, informative and extraordinary. The owner told me how I can send the remaining injectors to the factory for refurbishing at a fraction of the cost for new ones. Despite having to shorten the trip a day, SpeeDee took the stress out of the situation and we even enjoyed the delay in Davis. SpeeDee/Midas at 2000 F Street is highly recommended. read more

We've been taking our vehicles to SpeeDee in Davis for over 20 years and we will continue for many more to come! Best price in town? No, but comparable to or better than most other shops in Davis. Will they offer to sell you another service? Probably, but they don't push you and only make suggestions. Are they always perfect on the timing questions? No, but in all our years of service it is rare that they are off by more than five or ten minutes. Parts almost always arrive faster than suggested. Yes, the television can be annoying, but they are willing to turn it down if you ask or they have a great patio just outside the waiting room door. There is always free coffee and water, and I've never had trouble connecting to the WiFi...most of the time I'm only online for a few minutes and then my vehicle is ready to go! They answer all my silly questions and sometimes even help me with an issue at no charge that would justify handing me an invoice. Randy and Teresa are great owners/managers and work hard to provide great service! read more

I was out of town and needed to find a mechanic open on Sunday that could quickly fix my radiator problem so I could get back on the road. When I arrived they immediately diagnosed my problem. Excellent and quick. A/C was very weak on my 2008 Civic and temps are 107! Local dealer and other shops could see my Civic in a few days or the next week. SpeeDee took the car in right away, recharged A/C and did oil change service in under 2 hours. Now, I know my timing was lucky because there were no customers ahead of me for the A/C service. Price was fair and they accepted a competitor's coupon. Very happy. It's been awhile since I've been to SpeeDee, but I'm coming back. read more

I have taken my cars in for service to them for about one year now. I am very satisfied with their service! They inspect vehicles thoroughly, and I can attest to that. I once took my vehicle to them to have the power steering fluid flushed out and for brake service. As my vehicle was being serviced, I received a call from Midas. The lady, a very nice lady, called me and told me one of my wheel bearings was bad. I remembered my vehicle began shaking a few years back, something I attributed to an unbalanced wheel or uneven wear on tires. In fact, I've had the tires changed out by other places and none ever told me about the bearings being bad. I never told Midas anything about it, yet they figured it out through their inspection. After the repair, it ran very smooth. People there are very nice and helpful. I've also taken my other vehicle there for service and have had no issues. I've taken my car here twice for an oil change. Reasonably priced, friendly, and quick service. The first time, my maintenance required light came on several weeks later. I went back to SpeeDee to get it checked out and they had forgotten to reset the counter on the car so it thought it still needed an oil change. Easy fix, no big deal. Got another oil change last week and told them what had happened the previous time. When they returned the car to me, the mechanic specifically told me that he had reset the counter. I drove down to Southern California for vacation and several hundred miles later, the light came on again. I trusted that they had actually reset the counter, so assumed that it was something worse and took the car in to be checked. Turned out that the counter had yet again not been reset. This happening once wasn't a problem, but happening a second time when I was specifically told that it was taken care of caused a lot of undue stress and was unacceptable. Will be going elsewhere for oil changes in the future. read more
