This is a review of the company not the service center. I have been a long time customer to Charter , not because of the service but the lack of options in my area. Its like charter has a monopoly in my area, its charter or satellite. The price is constantly going up and the service getting worse. My signal freezes up and I lose internet connection all the time . I have had to replace my cable box and modem multiple times ans also called in repairs and the issues seem to always continue. I called today about my internet and got a guy telling me I could drop my contract and upgrade the intenet for a better connection drop the phone and keep the same tv and end up saving money. I told him I would check with the wife and get back to him . She was all in. I called back 20 min later only to be told that to drop the phone (a better$29 service) I would be charged a early cancellation fee even if I am upgrading a different service. I was then told that the phone$109 a month price I was given 20 min prior would now be over $200. I informed the guy on the phone what I was told and he told me that the cost was now be$202 a month . The second my contract is up im gone. Way to back up what your own associates tell the paying customer. Thanks for nothing. read more

Probably the worst telecommunications company to deal with. They keep charging me different amounts through automatic payments without even telling me! Every time I call to ask why I am being charged basically every week they give me a different answer or put me on hold for 10+ mins! I am really not shocked that the City of Worcester has a contract solely with Charter...this means someone in a very high government office is probably getting some type of kickback. I hope that one day we have more competition when it comes to service providers. Maybe finally have FIOS available. I'm upset that I had to give charter ONE star. The worst, WORST service and the customer service is DREADFUL. Spent 20 minutes trying to get my non functional internet working, to get transferred to the wrong department TWICE. Currently on a 10 minute hold for the same thing (after hanging up on the first call). Unreal. It's never ever easy w them. Overpriced, spotty service with NO customer service. Wouldn't mind so much if I had more options in worcester, but they've monopolized the city's cable/internet. read more

I called the other night because the cable modem we rent from them is outdated and only does 60 mbps download and 25 max upload. So they offer a free upgrade to the new modem. So that's the good. The bad is they tried to charge me a 199.99 installation fee to upgrade my internet speed from 100 mbps to 400 mbps. I said all I want is they new modem so I can get the speeds I pay for. The sales person said her supervisor said the current modem I have would work with the upgrade. Well it's been 2 days and they are wrong as usual my internet speed is faster at 70 mbps download but not what I am paying for. So needless to say I got my new modem that I installed and no charge and upgraded to an asus blue cave router and now I get 300 download and 150 upload no jitter and seems better. I have 7 TVs 3 gaming players and two computers so I need the reliable service with good solid speeds. See what you are paying for, for speeds and then do a speed test to see what you are getting then call them and complain complain complain. They are expensive so you should get what you pay for. read more

Charter is the worst internet provider. If you have ANY other choice take it ! The internet cuts out constantly and they don't even provide a way to contact via email. Also there is no way to review their service on the actual site. There is no easy way to contact them when you have a service outage (which is constantly happening). You have to sit on hold for 30 minutes to actually talk to someone and even then they probably can't do anything for you. Do yourself a favor and go with direct tv or Verizon or satellite.. Anything but charter. I'm in the process of shopping for another provider myself. read more

The Worcester branch of Charter is horrible. They have missed technician appointments, and when I called to ask why they made stuff up that I knew wasn't true. For example they said that they couldn't get in the building because the doorman doesn't let anyone in on the weekends... first we don't have a doorman, lol, and second, random people can never get in the building- thats why we give you a phone number and you call us to let you in. When talking to the representative and asking why they didnt call, she argued with me and was basically saying it was my fault. She was at the point where she was being blatantly rude, which made me more mad considering they had fucked up and there wasn't even a way I could have changed that outcome. There was then a whole debacle where I was told I would be $20 off my next bill, and then didnt. I talked to several different representatives, who all told me that was impossible to do and that I had never been told that because it wasn't in their records. After again arguing with very rude customer service reps, I was eventually told they could take $10 off my next bill. I canceled my service and now have Fios which is way better and worth the extra money. read more

Charter is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with. We had a member of Charter COmmunications staff out to install cable and high speed internet and he spent the entire time on his cell phone on a personal call. He left our apartment a mess and when he left we realized the install did not go through and we did not have internet access. We spent 4-6 hours the following day on the phone with technical support trying to finish the job the installer should have done himself the day before. TEch support did not solve the problem. They kept telling us that the problem was with the computer. We tried that computer out on another system and it was 100% functional. We had someone try their computer on our modem and it didn't work. We realized (not the company) that the modem was defective. We contacted charter the following day to inform them of the situation and see if they were willing to come replace the equipment and apologize for the incovenience...... we did not get ANYWHERE with them. They would not apologize and were in no rush to help us out. We scheduled for a disconnect and even that was a headache. They wanted to charge us to do the disconnect even though we never got their service working.... IF I CAN GIVE ANY ADVICE TO PEOPLE DO NOT USE CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS. Terrible customer service. Don't even bother calling for help. It's too bad this is the only cable you can get in the Worcester area other than digital. We got a DVR doesn't record some of the show that are set to record and stop recording shows for no reason. On top of that, when you watch the recorded show the voice and the mouth movement doesn't sync together. It's just like watching those old Chinese movie back in the day, when you see their mouth is moving and not saying a word. read more

I am only giving Charter a 1 star because there is not an option for negative stars. Everything about this company has been a disaster since day one. At the initial installation, they gave us a HD/DVR in the living room and a HD box in the bedroom. The box in the bedroom was an ancient box with no HDMI that hummed badly. We tried new cables, bought hi quality cables, etc, and nothing worked. To make sure it wasn't the TV, we moved the TV into the living room and it worked fine. We called to get the issue fixed, and it took almost a week to track down an HDMI box that someone could bring and install. The installer, to be fair, was very nice. It turns out that the HD/DVR had a bad hard drive and had to be replaced, and that our internet was running slow because the cable from the communication room to our apartment was bad. 4 visits later we were up and running. As all of this was happening, we received our first bill within a week of service being installed. The company agreed to credit me for the time that we didn't have full service. For a while, we were happy. We got our second bill, and it did not reflect the credit. I called Charter, went through all of the prompts, and finally got to Holly. Holly said that the credit was put in, and then declined. She put me on hold for several minutes, and then said that the credit would be put back on. I asked if I could go ahead and make the payment, and she told me that it would be $5 unless i used the automated system. I explained to her that since they had made the mistake, I would like to not waste more time going back through the automated system. This required a supervisor, several minutes on hold, and they finally took my payment. Luckily my apartments are being wired for more cable services. As soon as another option is available, I will be switching. read more

(This is a review for the Worcester support center) Charter internet has been much faster and more reliable then other ISPs I have had in the US. They offer reasonable speeds (65 Mbps) in their lower tier pricing. Unlike other ISPs which try and pretend that 5 Mbps is actually a viable option at the same price. (I am looking at you Xfinity). We also had an excellent experience with their setup team. We recently moved into a newly renovated house that had entirely new wiring. After the initial setup, we kept having the internet drop out for large gaps of time. The charter support team always sent a technician the next day. Over the course of a week, we were elevated to the higher tier support team who were at the house for huge stretches. We were given a direct phone and email number and they got back to use, even on nights and weekends. The ended up replacing all cabling and connections inside and outside our house, and some parts of the neighborhood, at no cost to us. They continued to monitor us for the next week and would stop in to make sure that it was still working. Not only did they solve a very difficult bug, caused by the houses wiring and not their, they did it with some of the most friendly and knowledgeable techs I have met. read more

It seems I am one of the rare people with a positive Charter experience. Called them to upgrade our three cable boxes and modem, all of which were close to 20 years old. We wanted to upgrade to DVR's. Called them on Jan 25 and placed my order. The CSR mentioned he was in Washington state. Appt set for 4 to 6 PM window THE NEXT DAY! Installer (Bill) called a half hour EARLY and asked if he could come over early. (Of course.) He did a thorough and professional job, even replacing an outside grounding wire, which was not proper, checking the connection at the pole, and shortening a cable in the basement that was unnecessarily long. We have never dealt with the Worcester store - my review is limited to the call center and the Technician (Bill) who did our work. read more

I had been paying $119 per month on a promotional rate. Not bad for TV, HBO, Showtime, DVR and Internet. It expired after one year and, as happens every year, I call Charter. My new rate is $144 a month. Every year, the first person I talk to says there are no promotions at this time, and I have to pay the full rate. Every year I ask to speak to the retention department. I don't know why this company makes long time customers go through this song and dance every year. Just because they can, I guess. So, I get Ron in the retention department. The only thing he can do for me is to give me a $130 rate. They have a monopoly and can do whatever they want. But it gets worse. Then Ron tells me that I'm getting a great deal and my rate went down, because I'm now paying $130 instead of $144. I say my rate did not go down, it went up from $119 to $130. He says, well, that's your perspective. I say, yes, that is my perspective, that I am writing you a bigger check, so my rate did not go down. He insists that my rate went down. Come on, You are ripping me off to watch TV. At least don't insult my intelligence by insisting that my rate is going down, you jerk. read more

Have had Charter for about 4 months now and there are pros and cons with the product and company. Before I decided to write this review I read the others to see other peoples thoughts. to be honest I think some people have valid points and others are pointless to bring up. Pros: Cheapest Cable, Internet, and Landline Phone around Internet speed tends to be reliable and fast Customer Service on Phone are usually pretty kind Cons: My Cable does reset itself about once a week and takes about 10-15 mins to reset. DVR system does not record On demand is very limited and updates on shows are much later then other cable providers as they usually update the next day if a new episode was on the night before. You may ask why 3 stars then with those cons. I moved to the Worcester area 1/2 a year ago from the Boston Area. I see people complaining about prices and monopolies from them. Truth be told I pay 141 a month for the gold package and I ASKED WHAT THE COST would be after a year and they said something like 165. So if your complaining about a promotional price just ask what it will be after a year. If I were to receive the same package from Verizon and Comcast it would be close to 300 a month, just to put that into perspective to some people. and Comcast has contracts with some towns as the only source of cable so you have to pay them higher costs with no choice in other areas of the state. I will admit I am a tad disappointed with the On demand as I usually have awkward shifts at work and if I miss my show I would just like to watch it the next day if possible but have to wait a week but that is probably a contract thing with charter and other companies. again you get what you pay for. you want all the stuff you are whining about ok then pay 300 a month and if your not satisfied with that then charter is a great deal. It may not be perfect but guess what there are other sources to provide your entertainment. So if my cable box has to reset then I just read a book or turn on a gaming console. I also own a roku to watch Netflix and hulu. Just take the good with the bad be content with it. read more

Was offered a solid promo rate and was given an email listing a grand total. Had to call in to resolve a technical issue from install and pricing was off. Tech support told me to call sales. Sales said the rate I was given and had quoted (still in hand) did not exist. They told me I misunderstood the quote. The quote was clear and I asked many questions. The quote included TV and Internet. They tried to increase the rate almost $40 a month from the agreed promo rate. Apparently the promo rate was a bold face lie. read more

I've been waiting on hold now for 30 minutes waiting for a Charter customer service agent (I'm a current customer). Jackie H: Ok, when would you like to have your services disconnected? At this point, I just called customer service. 35 minutes later (5 minutes after starting this review) I'm still here. Somehow, I'm not surprised that their customer service lines are clogged up. By the way, the chat representative was SO slow, that several times, I had to ask her if she was still on the line. In general, Charter service is lousy. Internet cuts out frequently, and disconnects suddenly, and the TV service constantly has to be rebooted. I would go somewhere else, but Verizon only offers DirectTV in our area, and our roof is too shaded in by trees for the service to work properly. So like everyone else, I'm stuck with this horrible company until an alternative arises. read more

I don't need a home phone since I use my cell. I don't want cable since I mostly watch internet tv and there cheapest package is like $60. They have a deal with the city to not let Verizon and other ISPs dig in the Worcester city limits for 10 years, so we are stuck with them as the only high speed internet. The customer service rep I spoke to tonight talked down to me and asked to speak to the "male account holder" despite the fact that I had the security codes and handle all of our technical problems. Time frame was maybe 4-6 weeks. Cancelling TV brings the internet price up to $69.99/month. I'm not bundled anymore, and they won't reinstate the price I had initially. I am not rating Charter as a whole but I did have a good experience with them this past week on support. They tried hard to help me but we then decided that they would send a technician the next day. However, when I went out to get my mail, there was a Charter truck. I asked the young man whose name was Jason 9886 if he was there to help me. He said that he was just checking the line levels but he would come in and see if he could help me. It turned out that it was just that the ground fault plug had tripped. Between 5-10 years ago I upgraded my internet speed with an "internet max upgrade" service that gave me 30mbps download speed (the speed for regular service at the time was 15mbps). This upgrade package was discontinued years ago and the download speeds for regular internet service continued to rise far above the 30mbps. I recently found out that regular internet service is now a minimum of 100mbps which is 3 times the speed that I have been charged extra for. So, for a number of YEARS I have been paying a PREMIUM every month for SLOWER internet service. I called and talked to a rep and they said Spectrum wouldn't do anything even though the plan I was paying extra for hasn't been in effect for ~ 5 years; the rep did state that their opinion was that this was really unfair but Spectrum won't reimburse for issues like this. In summary: Spectrum overcharged ~$1500 from a customer who has been with them for 30 years. Unfortunately I have no other choice of service providers in my area but I can sleep easy knowing that Spectrum will eventually fail - you can take advantage of your customers and get away with it while you have no competition but the lives of your supporters and employees will suffer for it when all of your customers leave the moment they have another opportunity. I, for one, am looking forward to the day when Spectrum folds and is no longer doing poor business in a world that deserves better. You can be a part of the problem or a part of the solution - Spectrum is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with and I sympathise with every good person that has to work for such a feculent corporation. read more

Charter's Service Tech never showed up 2 days in a row! Wow. Charter could have at least called us. They didn't. I had to call the first day when he didn't show up. They said he was running late (2 hours), and we could reschedule. I was very polite, and said sure, how about tomorrow between 8am - noon? They said fine. Today, though, the service tech didn't show up again! it is now after 1PM in the afternoon. Nobody came. And Charter never called, again! But it gets worse.... I called around 10am when the service tech didn't show, and Charter told me he was on his way and would be here at 10:15. Cool. late, but not bad. But he never showed. Charter called to make sure he was here, we told Charter he wasn't and they said they would call back. Charter never called back. Ever. An hour later I called Charter, again. Politely asked what happened. The rep said let me check on it. I held on the phone for 15 minutes (no kidding). Rep said a supervisor was going to call me in 2-3 minutes to take care of everything, and that the Rep himself would call me back in 5 minutes to make sure everything was ok. Guess what? Neither the supervisor nor the rep ever called. Ever. I waited another hour, and I called Charter AGAIN. This time a rep said that a service tech would be here in an hour. that would be 2PM in the afternoon. All this time Charter never called to tell us what was going on, what happened, or when we could expect the service tech. Charter said they would call, and didn't - 3 times! It is like Charter marked our account with a note to abuse us. This is horrible. Why can't you just do what you say you will - even to call us back and tell us the plan? I am writing because I think there needs to be an FCC investigation of this company. In Douglas, MA there are limited option. We have internet and phone services and for over a month now we have had inconsistent service, Mostly during their "business hours". Some times just internet mostly both telephone and internet. The first time it happened I assumed it was something at the house cause the message "Check your line" on the phone and no connection on the internet. Checked everything out and no issues on our end. Then the service came back on, so I foolishly thought perhaps they were working on their in town services preparing for back to school. It has kept happening!. I have written to them 2 times now. NO ACTION Having owned another property in another area I discovered these companies can mess with you remotely, so I am no Babe in the woods, but I don't plan on being made a fool out of . I have zero confidence that Maura Healy would do anything for any of us, but I think an FCC complaint needs to be filed. Living in a community that has no other resources I will be researching. read more

Been a time warner customer since 2002. Asked to remove basic, non digital television service since I don't watch it (vacation home), retain 50mb internet at current price (49.95). Told I can't, i was "bundled", could have a tv plan with 50mb and some channels for 91.00, all I wanted was internet, told that i'm now only eligible for 100mb at 64/month. Asked why I could not have internet separate and when that changed, was told "when we bought the company". Good job Spectrum, your price just convinced me to cancel the whole thing and spend the 64/month on a Verizon hot spot -- I told you its a vacation home and we don't need that much. So, ill keep it for one month, set up the hot spot, and give verizon the money. Same thing goes for the other 25 owners in the park. read more

Digital services just disappear leaving you with no guide, and good luck calling customer service, odds are you'll get someone who doesn't speak english, that doesn't understand what your saying, which just adds to the frustration. Charter hired a subcontractor who did a great job laying a cable from my last electric pole to my house. The construction manager said the everything was set. I just needed to call sales to set up a contract and someone would come to do the in home installation. I have called multiple times to set up a contract. Their computer system says it is not serviceable. They sent a person out to check the cables two days ago. I spoke to him. Everything is all set. Said he would let the office know and they would call me. No call. I have called twice and they still say it is not ready for service. I have talked to 4 different people in the business office. Sometimes they know the story, but they do not track the calls or problems. One would think they would want to bring in some money to pay for laying the cable at least. Yikes. And why did the government decide cable monopolies are a good thing? My street will NEVER get FIOS. read more

This is a review only concerning the installation, not the quality of the service itself. I've only had it for a day now and can't comment fairly on that. First things first, the window was 10-12 and the tech arrived early in the window, so we're off to a good start. He walks in, walks down to the basement, says "sorry, I have to call my supervisor, be right back". He steps outside, I assume he makes his phone call, gets the ladder off his truck and goes to the pole across the street, I then continue to unpack (I was in the process of moving in). A few minutes later, he comes back in, goes back downstairs, comes back up again and says "sorry, I have to call my supervisor". Whatever, I go about my business and let him go about his. Some time elapses, he comes in with the box/modem/etc and gets to work in the living room. No TV, no internet, no signal of any kind. "Sorry, I have to call my supervisor" and disappears out the front door again. He's back a few minutes later and everything is kosher. I'm thinking that he's probably new, doesn't quite know what he's doing but in the end he got everything connected and functional, no big deal we've all been new at things before. A few hours later, I hear from my new neighbor (side by side duplex, one front entrance), wants to know why there's a bunch of new cable shit nailed to her side of the house and why there's a loose cable wire running from her side, across the front door (loose enough that it's easily tripped over and can't really be moved so as not to block the front door) to my side of the house, and eventually into my basement. Dammit, the tech obviously didn't know what he was doing, should've checked his work before he left. My guess is that he was lazy. He saw there was an old Charter connect running to the opposite side of the house, but none to mine. Instead of running a new wire like he should have, he just tapped into the existing one. Only problem is, that's not my property and he shouldn't be over there...yeah, to me it's just a cable hookup and no big deal but to her its a violation of property, I totally get that and think she'd be justified in just ripping it out (she also think's it's drawing from her electric (it's not, but that's not the point). Not only that, but who strings a cable across the threshold of a front entrance and then leaves it slack for people to trip over. Even if nobody trips this thing is getting destroyed as soon as the first snow comes and somebody tries to clean the stoop. I call Charter to see about getting this fixed. Seems like their next available appointment is next Friday (during working hours of course and I'm not taking an upaid or vacation day so they can fix their mess), it's Saturday so that's a week. I told them no. Shoddy, irresponsible work, site left in hazardous condition, work done on unauthorized private property: This needs to be fixed ASAP. She says "Let me see what I can do", comes back after a few minutes and says "Good news, we can have somebody there as early as next Friday morning". Yeah, nicely done. A couple of things, Charter is the fourth cable company I've dealt with in my brief life, it's the first where I haven't gotten same day service (RCN even had an install tech at my place running wire through trees in the rain and in the dark after 10PM once). Slow, expensive, don't fix problems, bad customer service-horrid.

My internet cuts out constantly... We have called Charter many times and all they offer to do is restart out connection from their end which is the same as unplugging my router and plugging it back in. We obviously share the same lines as the giant apartment complex next door and in the evening when everyone gets online our connection goes dead. Restarting the router gets us back on for 10 - 15 minutes but that is about it. This has been a problem for close to a year now and Charter have offered absolutely nothing to help. I have had the internet since dial up back in 1995 and Charter is above and beyond the worst service provider I have ever come across. Unfortunately they are the only option in the area I have moved to so we are stuck with them, which is why they don't care. If there is ever an option to switch I will do it in a heartbeat. read more

PLAIN AND SIMPLE. CHARTER SUCKS. RUN THE OTHER WAY. GET NETFLIX INSTEAD. DONT DO IT!!! The prices are high. The service sucks. The picture quality is iffy. Tje rates increase without notice. Your wire maintenance fees increase as the benefit disappears from your account just so they can charge you. They only keep 6 months of your records on file. Nobody can help you at this company. Called Charter for an appt to install a phone jack in a bedroom. My mother in law is moving in and needs her phone line for her Lifeline! The tech came yesterday and said he doesn't install wires or jacks! I was on the live chat last night for 90 minutes and all she could do was give me another appt for next week. Unaccpetable I said. But she couldn't get one sooner. I called today thinking a live person might be able to help. No luck. They then told me that we canceled the appt and then said that we declined the service! This is the second time this has happened! How can these techs get away with this?! And how can Worcester allow Charter to monopolize their business? Any politicians want to answer that? Charter Television Services is not good. I've been a loyal customer for 3+ years and stuck with them through a series of problems but im done now. I recently ordered the Canelo vs Cotto boxing match, I had most of my family and friends over for the fight. One friend flew over from Camp Pendleton California to visit for the week. During the fight the last 2 rounds were not watchable. The sevice was interrupted and we missed the climax and key moments of the event. EVERYONE was extremly disappointed, it was like missing the fourth quarter of a great super bowl. I felt terrible. I immediately called Charter, waited like 5-10 minutes and explained what happened to the representative. The man said there was no way he could prove there was a problem in the area, I asked for a manger and told him that im a loyal customer and dont want to pay for a service that was not delivered. After 15 minutes of back and fourth he offered me $10 dollars. I said no, advised that I would be canceling my internet and television services and that charter would loose $130 a month from loyal customer just because they want to save $60. The manager could not say anything and remained quiet. I said bye and hung up the phone. I can't trust Charter when hosting a big event, I cant even trust them to help out a loyal customer who pays his bill everymonth for more than 3 years. I didnt realise that they are rated the worst in the country until i looked it up before writting this, please don't give these low lifes your hard earned money, they don't deserve it. read more
