The menu function works about 30% of the time. Constantly freezing, lagging, rebooting. Worst cable company ever.

Spectrum Customer service is the worst service I have ever had. In the past 3 days I had a schemed appointment canceled by spectrum and no one can tell me why. CS rep then told me I would have a service call that night. In a shocking move no service people were sent to my house and I was told I had an appointment in two days. When I called to see if I could get a sooner I was told someone would call me in sixty to 90 minutes to see what they could do. I got a call in 10 seconds saying they could so nothing for me. The amount of energy they expended in the 10 seconds had to have been incredible. Way to ho Spectrum. If there were another option in my Area I would switch in a heartbeat. I had a very positive experience dropping off my equipment here yesterday. Got there 30 min before opening time since I had seen a long line a day earlier, but once they opened it took less than 10 minutes to complete my transaction. Worst, internet and phone provider ever!!!! I just spent 52 minutes on hold with Spectrum. My second call today. They are so subpar with everything they do, I don't know how they maintain their monopoly in Easthampton, MA. No call back Service at a "tech" company, for real? Their web site will allow you to add services and pay your bill but if you want to cancel anything you have to call. I think they purposely make you wait, hoping you'll get frustrated and hang up. The answer line is full of ads for their shoddy services, and while trying to cancel they are still endlessly trying to sell you bundles that go up in price every few months. The rude gentlemen answering my call, I'm assuming he has a computer in front of him, had me look up my own account online while we were on the phone because he could't find the service I wanted canceled on my account???? and then jerked me around for another 20 mins while he pressed a button. So it took over an hour just to have them delete the Spectrum TV app from my account. The app was free then it went to 19.99 a month. They should be put out of business. Complete utter abomination of an internet service! If I could give lower than 1, I definitely would. Every so often there is an internet outage at 12 at night that's supposed to last 4 hours but it usually lasts 6!! It's ridiculous! Not only that but the setup need an electrician to come setup the internet for the first time when the directions say that you can do it on your own! I have been with spectrum mobile for 8 years. 3 years ago I purchased two new Iphone 11's for myself and my daughter. When the bill came it was a bit higher however i trusted this company and didn't think twice. Fast forward 3 years later...a friend asked if I would recommend this company and I told her what i was paying for two lines. She said it seemed high. I looked at my bill and i was paying $45 a month for the past three years for a line we never HAD! I called and they said they would reimburse me the 2k they owed. The next day i got a call from a team (leader) gag that said they can only give me two free months off my bill. I asked, how can you do that? I've been paying an extra $45 dollars that didn't BELONG to you. You're a billion dollar company and can't refund my 2k? They then told me i was in the wrong for not paying attention to my bill. This company has NO morals and NO loyalty to their customers. Do NOT trust these people. Their parents should be ASHAMED of them for taking advantage of hard working, single mothers. Grafton Street Worcester MA has the poorest excuse for customer service that I've ever encountered. They will not take back equipment unless you wait in line for 3 hours after they tell you its a 40 min wait. 9 staff member there but only 2 are actually working. No manager on site. They would rather argue with you about getting back to your place in line for 10 mins instead of actually helping you. Their demeanor had me in literal tears inside the store and I had no choice to wait through that to get my equipment needed for internet at home. Poorest excuse of customer service!!! Nothing but a bunch of power tripping people who purposely drag their feet after you complain about the wait. I returned equipment and canceled my service on August 30 and they charge me for a whole month through the end of September 30 no proration. They said because they posted the bill on August 29 . Ask yourself: do I like having to deal with people who don't ever take responsibility for anything, don't provide a service I have paid for, and are completely incompetent? If you answered "yes" to any of the above, then Charter is for you! But, if like 99.9999% of people, you answered "no" to all of the above, save yourself some time and energy, and instead of getting their internet, just slam your head against your computer (the results will be approximately the same). I surely do not understand why charter is allowed section monopoly on local internet provider in cable provider service. I live in a suburb of worcesterin charter is the only game in town in less you want to Install a dish on your house. I think of all the companies I've ever worked with Charter is the slimiest. First of all, subscribing is like buying a used car. If you don't like to negotiate, the process of signing up will be awful. The first time I signed up the person on the other line kept trying to tack on things I didnt need and talk about bundling everything. He wouldnt answer straight questions like 'how much for basic cable?' It was always, 'well ... Let me give you 7 options' and none was a price for the service I was asking about. Finally, I got so frustrated, I decided to have some fun and see how low I could get him. I spent 30 minutes negotiating and finally saved $50 per month!!!! Off what he originally offered. Then come to find out Charter contracts outside agencies to sell Charter packages ... You aren't even dealing with Charter unless you pick the right number to call, of which there are many. Next came the sleazy installation. They made me wait one and a half weeks before a tech could show up and install my cable. They gaveme a 4 hour window so I had to take the day off from work. When the guy arrived (20 min. Before the end of the window, of course) he told me that he could only install the cable in one room because of the drop ceiling in the basement. I told him to pack his tools and leave because I needed cable in the bedrooms as well. He actually started to! I told him I would run the cable across the wall and actually knocked a hole in one of the walls with a hammer which took 2 seconds because he refused to drill into the wall ... Even though he had no problem drilling holes through my hardwood floors to run the cable up. Which I still find barbaric and unbelievable that you have to put holes in your floors to have cable. The hole was next to a door and he threaded the cable across the doorway on the floor which any idiot could see not only looked ridiculous but was a tripping danger. He said he couldn't do anything about it because he would not drill another hole. Ever think of planning it out the first time jackass?? Now I have a cable wire running across the floor in my living room. Now that I actually have Charter, in 2 years I've had to replace the box twice because it went haywire. Often, using On Demand is impossible because they skip episodes. For example, they will have HBO Game of Thrones episodes 1, 2 then 5, 6, 7. They have episodes 3 and 4 only in HD which of course is $10 more per month. Scam. Often they will take 3 days to put up the premium show episodes. There is a lot more content On Demand than other cable providers offer though. I will give it to Charter that in terms of On Demand viewing, there are lots to see. The worst part is the internet. It is SO slow. Sometimes it seriously feels as slow as dial up used to. That is, when it works. My computer drops the signal 4 times per hour. The funny thing is when I called about this, they said it was because of my brand new router. They came and installed a new one (which after 6 months I noticed they were renting me for a monthly fee without telling me) and I get just as many drops per hour only now, my net goes down completely once every 4 months and they have to send a tech out which means I have to take a day off from work. I seriously can't imagine a worse ISP ... And for what Charter charges and all those commercials that say its the fastest ... It sucks bigtime, is slow and unreliable. Overall, I hate Charter a lot. They are the only game in town for cable many places, which sucks because its clear by all the customer service ratings of 1 star on here, they can pretty much get away with being this bad. Some people cannot get Dish so Charter is the only game in town. I'm waiting for the day that technology catches up where cable is more of a pick your channel type of thing. This is LONG, my apologies. I'd like to preface this by saying that I've never had an issue with Charter billing practices or their service. It's their customer service department I have issues with. I am also not saying this to get free service. I've tried resolving this on the phone, but all I get is apology after apology with clever wording each time to not accept responsibility. Tuesday, October 31st I called Charter and spoke to 'Chris' about setting up new service at my new home. I told him that I could take "This Friday" off (9/3/2010) of work to be there for the tech. The agreed upon time was between 1pm & 3pm. The order was for 2 HD DVRs and charter service with HBO, MAX, Showtime & TMC. Done and done. No. Friday September 3rd comes & at 3:17PM no Charter tech. I call and "Brian" (if I recall) tells me that "no, the appointment is for Friday September 10th." This is incorrect. I tell him. He apologizes and tells me that the only thing he can do to reschedule is to set the appointment for 9/22/10. I ask to speak with a supervisor & I'm put on hold for a bit. he comes back & tells me that he's trying to get a supervisor. Apologies again. he tells me that she'll have a supervisor call me "soon" 4:45 (approximately) and still no call. I call again. This time I get Yolanda & I tell her that I've been waiting for a call back from a Supervisor and she somehow manages to get one for me. Apology after apology. But still, nothing is done for this. I'm told that it's a "miss-communication" This is no miss-communication. I know what was said between myself and Chris. I know what "This Friday" means. I have notes that I relayed from Chris as to exactly was expected of me. She even talks to "dispatch" but I already know that there's nothing that can or will be done. On top of all this, I had to give up a vacation day for this so I could be at my home to bring the TV out of storage, set it up on the entertainment center. I am never going to get that vacation time back and it was a huge waste of my day. Again, I realize that I'm a drop in the bucket, But at $109.99 a month, this is over $1,300 per year. This is not a minor investment. Except for my mortgage, this is the single highest bill I'll have for this house. I mentioned to the person I was talking to that I should at the very least have a month of free service. I had a similar issue with Verizon a few months ago and this is what I got for my trouble. I was told "That's against Charters policy" "Then why am I even talking to you?" Really? Is the time and effort on the part of your customers so insignificant that you're unwilling to sacrifice a little for customer retention? I work as a customer service representative for a medium sized technical company. My company SERVICES companies like Charter. If I said or did this to them, we'd lose the contract, no questions asked. I am not allowed to give my customers this kind of run around service. If someone asks for a supervisor, they are not made to wait like this. We're certainly not going to insult their intelligence by "apologizing for their inconvenience". In my area there is one other television provider. At this point I am still weighing my options. I've been told that FiOS is coming into the area within a few years and that is an option as well. Fast forward to 9/10/2010. I got an automated message that a Charter tech was going to be at my home tomorrow between 1 & 3 "and to have $109.99 ready for the technician. What? This was NEVER mentioned to me at any point by anyone. When I called just a short time ago to confirm this, I was told by another "Brian" that "We apologize for the miss-communication" This is not miss-communication issue. It was never mentioned to me that this was required. A quick search on Google tells me that this isn't an isolated situation. I hope this counts as the first months fee. If not, I'm going to cancel. I never want to hear an empty apology again. I then started working with a group within Charter called "U MATTER 2 CHARTER" Ultimately nothing was do to my satisfaction. I Canceled my Charter service before the end of October of 2010 and signed up with DirecTV. I love DirecTV's service. I sent a letter to charter with the following reasons I quit: The issues we've had were: - Misrepresenting the install date (was supposed to be 9/3/10, not 9/10/10) - Failing to inform me of the install fee of $109.99 in cash. - Misrepresenting the availability of "room to room" DVR functionality. - Misrepresenting the "new and improved" menu system of the DVR. - Misrepresenting the availability of the Moxi DVR and telling me that it was in stock and available when it clearly was not. - Unwillingness of Charter employees to compromise on my needs as a consumer. Offering only apologies. - Frustrating attitudes of Charter employees who don't seem to have adequate training or experience to accurately answer questions. read more

Let me sum it up in two words, CHARTER SUCKS! I don't know what I was thinking about when I renewed for another two years for TV and Internet. I will not be making the same mistake again, if I don't drop them before my time is up. A passing truck was nice enough to pull the cable right from my house yesterday afternoon. I had no problem with waiting until this morning (between 10-12) for service. It would have been nice if they had actually shown up. When I called to see what had happened, I received a very insincere apology and informed that I had canceled my appointment with their automated calling system. Glad I'm paying for 60 Mbps and after running two test on two different devices I am getting 0.86 Mbps. Can't load anything with this internet and my xbox one is next to the router along with using the cell phone so it's not a distance or signal blockage issue. So my hubby set up a TV in the corner of my kitchen, I set up an appointment with a tech to run a cable from the basement up , they told me I need an electrician, C-mon, So that was at 8 am, so they sent another tech out at 3, Same thing they can't run the cable I need an electrician, why do you hire techs that can't run new wires in an existing house?? What good are they if they can't run a new line??? I've been with charter for 16 years, So check this out my husband came home 8 pm, ran the line himself threw an existing phone line, just had to buy a few things in home depot but the job is done, screw your techs , there just lazy n didn't wanna spend the time!! This is a review of the customer service center in Worcester, not the company as a whole. I know there are a lot of bad experiences, and I've had them with the call center. I called for an upgrade to a DVR and to add HD, since I purchased a new HDTV. The gentleman sold me on a Phone-Internet-Cable package, even though I cancelled the phone years ago (i'm single and don't need two phones). He said it would be $114.97 for 1 year, and then to call and cancel after a year. I went to pick up my boxes. The line was long and slow, but its not really the reps faults. Its the people in front of you! In person customer service sounds like a nightmare. People arguing for 20, 30 minutes in front of you over bills they do not pay. That's not the representatives faults; that's the people. One person in front of me took her son out of school early because cable HAD to be installed. Even though she was more than capable of waiting for the serviceperson herself. Anyway ... I digress. ... I picked up my box, and she said the rep put me on for 2 boxes. I only have 1 TV. I also complained about wanting the phone but the rep told me it was cheaper to keep it. The customer service person in Worcester took the phone off, told me i didn't need the extra box (which i would've been charged for), and also noted the installation fee of $50 for the phone I was pushed into, was a hidden charge. She removed that too, and my bill wlll be $82 for the next year, a month. So I can't complain. She seemed honest and was understanding. read more

Charter Communications sucks so bad it hurts...I own an apple tv that I can't watch.. Because I only pay for 30 MBPS of service which is plenty of bandwidth to stream any movie no matter the size.. But I only get 3.53%... Barely enough to surf the web or barely enough to write this rant on how bad they suck.. Charter Internet is by far the fastest ISP I have ever had. If they sell you 100MB, you get 100MB even during prime time. Charter Residential Tech Support is by far the worst consistent experience (based on 20+ calls) I have ever received. Its outsourced, you can't understand them, they go through their flow chart and its always front loaded with busy work for you to do before they will even entertain its on their end, and then when it is, they have no direct communication with the people who can solve the problem and open a ticket. If they send someone to your house, that they always want to do, the problem normally clears before they get there. Charter Business Tech Support is much better than the Residential side, Domestic, and at least isn't front loaded with the busy work. As far as video services, the setup in our market, is complicated. They carry more channels than they have bandwidth for so use the tuning adapter's. Unfortunately I live in a TiVo house, which means we have CableCards & Tuning Adapters. Once they are setup, and that is a non-trivial task, they seem to work for a good 18 months before they need attention again. It normally takes Charter at least several days to setup, and many people will be involved. I am lucky as I have the cell phone number of someone who knows how to do it, and when he's involved the multi-day process is cut down to hours. As far a broadband ISP's, Charter would be my favorite, even will all the above negatives in the mix. I only give them 3 stars because other people are so much worse. Grading on the scale. read more

I called last week to set up service. She said they would mail me a modem. They must be sending that via horse and buggy! So I drove to the "store". To pick one up. Awful internet. Here's the kicker- it's the ONLY internet option in my housing development. I would like to call my local store to go pick up a new Router (because the tech support over the phone can only tell me it's NETGEAR brand, nothing else about what model it is) If you look at all the store options in my area, each and every phone number takes you to the same automated nation wide support line. ? Then I try to click on that stores "website"- won't load. So Charter COMMUNICATIONS has 0 ways to communicate with a human being? Great. Oxymoron. They are absolutely incapable of delivering sufficient signal for HD TV. I've been stuck with them for 16 years, when they offered Low Def or High Def, you could at least watch in Low Def, but now they only offer HD and they can't deliver. Picture and audio continually break up making TV unwatchable. I've had service people to my house at least 6 times this year, each one claims the previous one did something wrong and that they have fixed it. It works in the day time when they are there, but at night it will not work. I finally had one service person on the phone who admitted that they just are not able to deliver TV signal without interruption. read more

Absolutely the worst system. I moved back to the area after 10 years. Nothing is better. In the 01607 area, poor picture, old box interface. We had Xfinity for service both in Florida and New Hampshire. It was wonderful!!! 200 mb download, excellent picture and a remote control that was easy. On demand with Xfinity was easy, with graphic displays... Charter, The 1990 s, they want their interface back. But our wonderful city council, Lukes in particular, will not allow Xfinity or any other providers in. FYI cost for the package, double play gold plan, was the same for both providers. Spectrum is the worst cable company. I have been on the phone with customer service for more than 1 hour to upgrade my internet speed from 15mbps to 100mbps. The customer service said they would charge $74.99 for a simple upgrade. Even then the customer service personnel could not take care of request after they transferred my call to multiple staffs. what a junk company! The audio and video cuts in and out just about every sentence which makes watching near impossible because of the incomplete audio and the frozen/distorted picture? I have called dozens of times and gone through the same stupid process of plugging and unplugging box which does absolutely nothing at all, although they think it does! This is pathetic service and at an absolute outrageous rate, but they are a monopoly so that's what we get here in Worcester. Back to watching Godzilla styled shows!! "5/14/2014 The cable TV service was TERRIBLE. The sound never matched the picture. It was like watching dubbed kung-fu movies. A tech came out and said he could fix it. He left. It wasn't fixed. Turning the cable box off and on fixed the problem momentarily. Until you changed the channel, then it was back to kung-fu dubbing again. Spectrum sucks. The internet sucks. Customer service sucks. And the rates suck. My family moved to Spencer from Bellingham. We were using Xfinity in Bellingham and it was great. My wife works from home so she NEEDS a secure and trustworthy connection. Ever since we moved here and have been using SPECTRUM we have had nothing but problems. We lose internet and when we call customer service we get the same stupid ass "troubleshooting" response from every ignorant under trained spectrum employee, "try unplugging it for ten seconds" ! Look Ass hats, just be honest and tell the people that your service sucks and people would be better off with dial up. My wife would be in a business call and because the calls need internet service she loses the connection two sometimes four times a day. I have never dealt with any other company where every aspect of the company was absolutely terrible. We moved and needed charter installed so we could have wifi in the apartment. I set up an appointment and my roommate takes the day off from work. They gave us a 2 hour window from 10am-12pm that someone would be there to install. I call the customer service line at 11:45 and they report that the installer is finishing up and he will be there shortly. At 2pm my roommate reports not seeing a guy yet. I called them back two more times and ask where the guy is. They switch me around and keep me on hold for 20 minutes. He says he can be there at 7pm. At this point I'm extremely frustrated and told him that is absolutely not okay. The offer to take 20 bucks off my bill and I agree. They show up at 5pm, which we could have gone to work that day and do he installation. Allegedly, they had the wrong address and it was for a similar sounding street across the city. It's okay, I repeated the address every phone call and spelled it out three times. Installation occurs and we have internet. Throughout the month, the internet becomes spotty and sometime just doesn't work at all. Then we receive the bill. We got charged double the quoted amount. I call customer service again and spend a lengthy amount of time on hold for them to tell me that they accidentally charged us for both the correct and incorrect address. They also didn't include the $20 credit on our bill. The customer service person puts me on hold and has me speak to a supervisor about that. Finally it's all taken care of. My internet still has spotty reception and charter has been by far, my least favorite company to deal with, EVER. Worcester, please get more options. read more

Absolutely horrid policies and even worse internet service. I can only imagine their TV/Mobile is the same trash. Slower speeds than wheeled hamster guaranteeing less than 3rd world internet connection and speeds. The worst basic modems money can buy and then they call you incessantly trying to swindle you into their other promotions that are free for a period of time then you can cancel or are PRE-BILLED for a month of service. When you cancel said service, your left on the hook for any service you don't want or have because they can't pro-rate you back any service due to their policies. In other words, I prepay May, in April. If I cancel April 3rd. I don't get a refund for the remainder 27 days. Utter garbage all around. I've always had direct tv before moving to Worcester. Maybe had 1 to 2 outages in 10 years. With the "service" that we have no choice but to accept in Worcester, I have had at least 6 outages which lasted quite a bit of time in just about a year and a half. The cable TV service was TERRIBLE. The sound never matched the picture. It was like watching dubbed kung-fu movies. A tech came out and said he could fix it. He left. It wasn't fixed. Turning the cable box off and on fixed the problem momentarily. Until you changed the channel, then it was back to kung-fu dubbing again. Watching sports was impossible because the picture would constantly freeze and jump. The on Demand was TERRIBLE. They would put Episodes 1,2,4,6 of a series on On-Demand. And only put Episodes 3 and 5 up in HD. Which I don't have an HD TV. So I couldn't watch the whole series. And the sound NEVER matched the picture. The price was TERRIBLE. I started with their disgusting $75 for "basic" cable and then finally talked them down to $30 for "basic basic" cable, which was what anyone over the age over 30 used to call "free TV." Basically, CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, and Fox. $30 for that?!? And the sound never matched the picture. The internet service was TERRIBLE. Outages at least once a week and SLOW SLOW SLOW. They say you're receiving up to 30Mbps. Well "up to" is a good way to phrase it because there were some days that things would load as slow as dial-up. The speed actually got better towards the end but the outages remained. All this for $50/month (lowest price available) Their customer service was TERRIBLE. You'd call and wait on hold for usually an hour. You'd talk with someone clearly from India. They would only read from a script and get thrown off if you asked a question. I eventually memorized the script and stopped calling tech support except to report the weekly outages. Their sales department was TERRIBLE. You'd try to negotiate a price and they'd say they couldn't negotiate. They'd try to upsell you whenever you wanted your bill reduced. They read from a script and didn't listen to anything you said. I cancelled everything one month ago and I feel like a tremendous burden has been lifted from my soul. I now get DSL at 1Mbps ($20/month vs. $50/month) and I have barely noticed a difference in speed. The reliability has been fantastic. I watch TV shows over aereo ($8/month vs. $30/month). The voices now match up with the picture! And I get to skip commercials! I urge everybody in Worcester to cancel Charter. They truly are the worst. read more
