Back office: thorough examination punctuated with *aggressive* pitch for unwanted glasses reminiscent of Midas Muffler Mgr. who tried to sell me entire exhaust system that was not needed. This is a first-class place! Dr. Steven Weisfeld is an extraordinary optometrist who will go out of his way for each patient. I know him for 20 years and yesterday I had the pleasure of picking up a pair of progressive lenses to fill my old frames. Instead of talking me into buying new frames, the optician -- a kind and caring man by the name of Oracio --- inspected my old frames and deemed them strong enough to hold a new pair of lenses, sparing me the expense of buying new frames. Oracio was extremely diligent in measuring the distance between my pupils to make sure that the glasses would fit properly. The service at this eye glass store is excellent. My glasses are a decade old and the frames have held up great. I've updated my prescription a couple times and anytime I have a problem they are quick to fix it. The initial price was expensive for sure, but they more than make up for that in good service. I recently also got new prescription sunglasses, also the most I've ever paid for sunglasses, but I absolutely love them. This is a great place for eye exams, not to much for frames and glasses. The doctors here are wonderful and the eye exam equipment is state of the art. They really care for your eyes. Now as for the eyeglass frame selection and service, not so good. They have a very limited selection in the store and if you ask to order they make a big deal about how long it will take and they may not have it. They obviously want you to purchase from there limited over priced inventory. Buying frames from here is like being in a time machine going back to 1988. The internet and Warby Parker have changed the game. We don't have to spend $1100 for glasses any more. So again go here for the exam and doctors, run away when they say "will you be selecting a frame today?" read more

I visited based on the strength of the reviews here on Yelp and wasn't disappointed. I made an appointment to see Dr. Weisfeld for the exam and had a great experience with him. He's very easy to work with and made the process enjoyable. We had a great conversation about Englewood and the Bergen area (again, I'm new to the area so it was great to chat with him about it). Sarah from his staff took the time after the exam to show me some frame options. I have to admit that I made the process of actually selecting a frame very difficult for Sarah, taking forever to decide and going to other shops to look around for frames. They were so willing to work with me that they actually ordered a set of Paul Smith frames for me to try which I had seen at another shop out of state. I have gotten three sets of frames from Spectacles. I am very pleased. Dr. Blumenthal is a doll and just so wonderful. She helped me frames, prescription and even some allergies going on in and around my eyes. I really enjoyed her spirit and know how. I've purchased two frames from here and although one of them had some issues, the staff was able to resolve the problem for me. My second pair started having issues around two weeks after purchasing them, so I soon brought them back for adjustments. When I did so, there was a temporary technician there who unfortunately made them much worse than they were before. The frames couldn't simply be repaired at that point, but after a phone call from spectacles I had an identical new frame on the way. read more

I moved from New York about 2 years ago and I was very afraid to go to any place for new glasses, especially when I'm not the kind of person that gets a new pair of glasses every year or a change of prescription. Well I broke my favorite glasses :( and was forced to find a place, therefore I searched for a place within my network and with all the options I was just beyond hesitant because even in New York the eye doctor was awful. Well I went in on a Saturday afternoon to Spectacles and OH MY GOD!!!!! This is when I met Lisa... I walked in to see if they could at least fix my glasses, but the answer was no and although I was a bit disappointed it was like Lisa new me better than I knew myself! She went throughout the entire place and just picked certain glasses for me to try on and when I would ask her "Can I try these?" She's said yes, but those may be too big for your face, then the others Yes, but they may be too pale for your skin... and yes she was on point every time. She made me feel so comfortable and she was so beyond professional that I just fell in love with her and the place! Everyone is so nice and welcoming and there is so much eyewear to chose from as well, but to me the most important thing is the amazing service Spectacle provides. I've been going to Dr. Weisfeld since I was in high school. I live in Manhattan and am still making the trek to nj to see him because of the tremendous amount of care they give to patients. They are courteous, responsive and always accommodating. When I order my contact lenses they ship them quickly (and they always include some tootsie rolls from the office yay). They have a large selection and worked hard with Oakley to get me a pair of prescription sunglasses (apparently, the process with Oakley is a bit cumbersome). However, they refused to accept my insurance even though I was clearly told by the insurance company (multiple times) that prescription Oakley's were covered and Spectacles was in-network provider. As a result of their refusal to submit the claim to the insurance company on my behalf and their insistence the at I submit the claim directly after paying for the product, I paid $100 more than I should have (since I submitted the claim rather than Spectacles, it was treated as an out-of-network claim with reduced benefits). Bottom line is, there are many other places with large selections that will be more flexible with insurance, especially when the insurance company gives very clear instructions on how it should be submitted. read more
