I have been a patient of Dr. Chris Brown for over 30 years and have had excellent care. He is knowledgeable, thorough, affable and kind. He always discusses my treatment with me and takes my comments seriously. I cannot recommend him more highly. The new office is comfortable and parking is good. The doctors run on time. read more

The office has been in a new location, bright and cheerful. Easy to get to. There are two doctors Dr. Andrew and Dr. Stephen Brown. I have been going Dr. Andrew for several years for a history of glaucoma management. The office poses problems in time management that I didn't experience in the past. My wait the last two visits was 1hour, and then even longer 1 hour and 40 minutes just in the waiting area. It was the same for other patients shuffled into different rooms to sit. The communication in between was not particularly good and I feel if there was a long wait anticipated the patient should be informed. I personally was upset and nearly left. My fear is my next appointment and blocking in 3 hours of time for a standard follow up appointment, and wondering about anything more serious with my vision in the future needing surgery scheduling, and in general a more efficient approach with patients. Overall, I like Dr. Andrew who did apologize for the excessive wait time, however I think the office management part and patient needs are needing improvement. That is why I am explaining my rating being low. (2025) read more

I think highly of the doctors, especially Stephen Brown. The office staff has been unfriendly and even rude in the past. The new offices are nice but I want to see things improve like running on time, moving with kindness and care and finally, making me smile while I"m there, rather than feel like I'm a burden to them. read more

Patient for over 30 years. The office and care seemed much better with senior Dr. Brown and seems to have deteriorated since his retirement. Total disregard for patients time. It takes 3 months to get an appointment for which you are never taken on time. The average wait is minimum 45 minutes past your appointment time. You are shuffled from room to room until finally seen by the doctor. The new office is more spacious and aesthetically pleasing, and although it has more parking, the available spaces are underground in an area that is a bit uncomfortable to be alone in. While Dr Chris is competent he is generally hurried and doesn't always explain things in depth as needed. read more

Many years ago, DR Robert Brown had very sucessfuly done my cataract surgery. A few years later his son(Stephen?) did a procedure that cleared up a kind of cloudiness. I am now 90 and wondering if It would be possible to have it done again? I now live in NYC . Through the years many friends have commented on the far and near vision that I still enjoy, thanks to Dr. Brown. Can Dr Steven B recommend someone in NY? I would be happy to take a car service to your office. Edward Kurtzman edruart@aol.com My old address in Teaneck was 340 French Court. Thank You. read more

My daughter and eye have been going to Drs. Brown for 5+ years (plural because we've received care from all four--even including the elder Brown before he retired.) The care has always been great. Yesterday Dr. Stephen Brown operated on my upper eyelid to remove a Chalazion. After he applied the numbing medication there was a short wait while it took full effect. During that wait, with Dr. Brown in the room I got very lightheaded, not from the medication but due to my own anxiety. After a few minutes and a bit of chatting, I calmed down. Eventually (15 minutes maybe) I asked "how much longer will the medicine need before you can begin?" He replied "Oh it's been ready. I was just giving you time to relax." He had been sitting there quietly and patiently waiting for me to get fully comfortable. I have NEVER had a doctor give me "time"! It was a nice moment. The surgery was quick and painless. Dr. Brown then gave me a bit more of his time to explain some strategies I can use to avoid needing to do this in the future. read more

While I think Dr. Brown is a good Doctor, he shows total disregard for his patient's time. He believes his time is important but not anyone else's. My Mom had had 2 follow up appointments to cataract surgery in the last month. Both times we arrived on time to our scheduled appointment and waited an hour before being led to an exam room, where we waited 10 more minutes. On our last visit I started to express my concern to the technician who led us to the room, and he asked me to tell the Doctor, showing me that he has heard this complaint often. After the 3-minute exam, I expressed my frustration to Doctor, Brown. While he was polite, he was dismissive, and offered no hope that anything would change. It is obvious that this is his standard operating procedure. Many patients in the waiting room where just as frustrated. read more

Billing dept. Not very pleasant..... One lady especially. She dies not give you a chance to explain your sier if the situation. Keeps on saying : excuse me you have to let me finish. But she never let's you finish. When I started and she interrupted and I asked her ,can I please finish explaining she put me on hold. Very rude....... read more

I dealt with an extremely rude and obnoxious member of the office staff named Jan. My son wanted to make an appointment to follow up on care he received outside the country after a bus accident since his eye was still bloodshot. Although my son was seen and given a clean bill of health, Jan refused to file a claim with my insurance since the issue with his eye could be traced back to an auto accident. This was a check up to make sure his eye was healing correctly. Although Brown Eye Care Associates is considered in-network, my son was forced to pay $150. Blue Cross Blue Shield tried to help me out but when we contacted the office and spoke to Jan, she was rude to both me and the insurance agent. The doctors at this office need to reevaluate Jan and how she treats their patients! read more

The doctor is very kind. On the other hand, the staff is unprofessional and rude. Called today to schedule an appointment, and they informed me they only had space in 4 months. I asked if they could speak to the doctor or squeeze me in because I had not been seen in more than a year. I explained, that when I had my appointment the office called me and canceled it for some reason. The manager Liz said what I was saying was irrelevant because I had enough time to reschedule. All I asked was to extend my prescription until the next appointment. She wouldn't let me talk, and wouldn't even offer the option to come to the office if any cancellations. She kept interrupting me and saying it was irrelevant, she said we see people with important problems, your dry eye condition is not important, we have patients with more serious issues, It's not important. That was so offensive and hurtful. I have a history of eye problems, my father had the same issue and he recently suffered an eye stroke. How can a healthcare manager be allowed to be so insensitive. I said I can't * believe you just told me that my condition is not important. I asked to speak to the doctor to get his input. She hung up the phone because i said I can't * believe you said that to a patient. I'm very disappointed because I've been a patient for many many years, the doctors are so nice but the staff is completely opposite. So insensitive and inconsiderate. read more

Competent doctors but probably the rudest staff we have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.

Dr. Andrew Brown - Great bedside manner! Met w/Dr. Brown for my pink eye and was pleasantly surprised how the staff and the doctor interacted w/patients. The front desk girl was very sweet and patient. Dr. Andrew Brown was very thorough with the exam and really took his time to discuss my condition and treatment. There were few cons, the waiting room was extremely cramped and not enough seats for everyone. I offered my seat to an old lady since I didn't mind standing up. The waiting time was a bit longer than I expected but I wasn't complaining since they took me in last minute. Overall it was a good visit and I already made a follow up appointment! read more

Old, messy, not well-maintained office. Seemingly old equipment. Never on time for appointments. Always delayed. Unfriendly staff.

This was my first time coming to the office let's just start off with how friendly everyone was. I was seen in a timely manner. And I did not have wait to wait long. The parking was a bit of an issue but after driving around a few times I got a spot. I don't have great health insurance so when I called and they took my state insure I was surprised not a lot of places take it. read more

Brown Eye Associates - Everything is so clean - Optometrists Near Me - Teaneck, New Jersey

I have been here before and Doctor was very good but saw me 90 minutes after my scheduled appt because he had an elderly patient he was dealing with, I didn't complain because I understand .... fast forward.... I need an emergency appointment on Friday morning and they have an opening in the afternoon. I wrote down 1:30 but they say it was for 1:10. When I arrived the waiting room was packed and the check in had 4 people in front of me, (the person directly in front of me said she was waiting well over an hour and she was leaving) my turn comes and the girl at front desk shuffles a few papers then gets the manager who comes out and says that I am late and I need to reschedule (it was may 1:25 at this point). I reiterated this was an emergency appointment and it was clear he wasn't seeing me in the next few minutes anyway but nothing but attitude. I left and got back into my car by 1:31 went on zocdoc and got an ophthalmologist booked for first thing Monday morning, Doctor Oyeniran in Englewood was marvelous, has a new office with new equipment and a pleasant front office. In the end it worked out to my benefit. read more

Covid or not... Brown Eye Care Associates is the best!!! They always support and get me back on the road to recovery

Love Dr. Andrew, he is the best, explains thoroughly, takes his time with you, etc. BUT: Also: Dr. gave me new lenses to try. If I liked them, I should call & he would change my prescription so that I could order the new ones. I left messages on 3 different days, no return calls. You must call and speak to a "live" person..... read more

Literally the worst staff in all of health care. Sarcastic, rude, indignant. From the scheduler, to the contact lens department, to billing. Having worked in the industry myself, this type of behavior wouldn't be tolerated elsewhere. Stay far away. The doctors are great, but that's unfortunately not even worth the one star. Won't be revisiting this office ever again. read more

The brown family eye doctors are great doctors in their field. My complaints are a very stuffy and cramped up waiting area where you have to squeeze through people and move sideways to let people through. The office needs updating as well. Also even though you make an appt, your wait time is very long; usually over an hour. Happens each time my family or I'm here. I value my time and so should the people that I hand my money to and trust with my eye care. They need to spread their customers' appointment times more apart. Again, the eye doctors are great and so is their staff! 5 stars for eye care. 1 stars for facility and wait time. The hour and plus wait time each time is an absolutely disgusting approach to a trusting customers. Last time here. read more

The office was incredibly unhelpful and downright rude to me today after they made a mistake and wrote a prescription for contacts without a date. The office manager, Liz, was vitriolic when I called and asked if they could please write a prescription date for my contacts as it is NJ law to include a date (which I would think an ophthalmologist's practice would know). Costco was unable to fulfill the prescription extension the office sent over without a date. I ended up wasting hours there trying to call the office to help me. Liz told me that the prescription should have never been sent over, but rather than acknowledging her office made a mistake and sent a prescription that was useless she told me they would do nothing further to help and instead I could wear glasses. Her response to me asking the office for a contacts prescription was to wear my glasses. Very rude and then just hung up on me as I was speaking. Very clear they do not care about patient care. This manager Liz has been responsible for a number of 1 star reviews and I have no clue why the doctors have retained her considering how many patients she is singlehandedly responsible for losing. Shockingly unprofessional behavior and certainly will not be returning to Brown EyeCare (nor will the rest of my family). read more

Absolutely unaccommodating staff during an emergency. Had a swollen eye the entire weekend so called them the first thing on Monday AM (I've been a patient for almost 15 years). The woman on the phone didn't even let me finish my sentence before telling me that they had no appts available that day or the next day. She asked me to call her periodically throughout the day to see if anyone canceled. I asked her if I could leave my info and she could call me back if something opened up but she point blank told me "I don't keep a call log". I understand the schedule are particularly difficult during the pandemic but if they should have a plan for accommodating emergencies. Called Bergenfield, they saw me in two hours, diagnosed me with an infection that could have spread far worse if it didn't get treated quickly. I hate changing doctors but lack of empathy for patients is a complete deal breaker. Will not be going back there EVER....that;s 4 lost patients. read more

I started going to this practice many years ago because my wife and 4 generations of her family have been patients for over 20 years. Two days ago I woke up with my eye swollen shut and in pain. I called the office to get an appointment and at first was told that I could not be seen until the next day. A little while later Liz, their office manager, called me back and told me they could take me at 10:00 am because they had a cancellation. It was now 9:00 am. My wife was with my sick child at her pediatrician's office. She left there to drive me to Dr. Brown but had to reschedule my daughter's appointment for later on that afternoon. Our insurance requires a referral. I already had my PCPs office working on it. When we arrived for the appointment they had not yet received my referral. I called back my PCP and was promised they would send the referral but could not send it until noon because the person that does the referral was not in yet. They promised the doctors would receive it by noon. When I explained this to Liz she told me my only option was to reschedule because you are not allowed to see the doctor unless you have a referral in hand even in the case of an emergency. I stood there in front of them with my eye swollen shut and was turned away. My wife called Liz from the parking lot and explained to her that she has been a patient for 15 years and 4 generations of her family were also patients. She explained this is the office policy. My wife stated that they would receive the referral by noon but she did not care. She then said to come back at 4:00 pm. My wife stated that she could not come back at 4 pm because our daughter was sick and she left the pediatrician to come here. She stated we had an appointment with the pediatrician that afternoon and would not make it back in time. Liz rudely responded "that's not my problem". My wife called back a few minutes later and asked to speak to the doctor and Liz refused. She stated that the doctors don't get involved in these issues but my wife was not calling to complain. She was calling to ask them a medical question about my eye and she told Liz this twice. Liz refused to have a doctor call her. My wife could not believe how she was treated after being a patient for all these years. All these doctors care about is money and could care less how long you have been a patient of theirs and how loyal your family has been to them. We even told Liz we were fine receiving a bill for the services but she refused to let us see the doctor. Two days later my wife had an appointment with my son, which she scheduled a month prior. She spoke to Dr. Stephen Brown about this situation and handed him a three page written complaint about what transpired. Dr. Stephen quickly cut her off and said he already knew about the situation from Liz and said your husband refused to come back. My wife tried to explain why we couldn't come back. He kept interrupting her and wouldn't let her explain. He said he has been burned too many times by insurance companies and since we chose to have a plan that requires a referral its our own fault. My wife stated that she did not have a choice as to which insurance plan we have as this is the only plan our employer offers. Dr. Brown did not care at all about our situation. My wife even told him that she asked Liz about the referral and she said your husband is working on it. Never once did she mention that it had to be in their hand prior to the appointment. Not to mention, she called us at 9 to come in for a 10:00 appointment. That doesn't give anyone much time to have a referral done. We received the referral at noon as promised and I was seen by another practice that I have never before been to. I was taken in immediately, had no wait time and no attitude. My wife is deeply upset since she has been going to the Browns for most of her life. She cannot believe the way the doctor reacted to her genuine complaint. They may have started off as a nice family practice but their policies prove that all they care about is money!! read more
