Best local spot in South Park for an eye appointment. I went for a usual check up and had a great experience. I had some issues getting my insurance situated and they could not have been more accommodating. They called my insurance and got everything sorted for me! During the appointment they took their time, sometimes at other places you can feel like they are just trying to get you in and out. But not here. They also have this super cool new machine that assesses your eyes without having to get them dilated. It was an extra cost (I believe ~$40), but well worth it. And if you don't want to spend the money, you can easily decline the service. I would definitely recommend this place to others. They also have a very stylish selection of glasses to choose from if you are in the market for a new pair. read more

If you need to see clearly, be prepared to wait for weeks. I've been driving without the ability to see for two weeks now. This is the slowest lab ever. There is a good selection of frames but be prepared to pay for a "special order" for what you want. read more

I wanted a new eye doctor. Specs is in my neighborhood and offered an AARP discount so I thought I'd give them a try. I am so glad that I did! I have been seeing Dr. Tang for a year, initially for a periodic exam and then to treat an injury. She is knowledgeable and has provided exceptional care; she even emailed each week and met me while the office was recently closed to check on my eye. She has certainly exceeded my expectations and I hope Dr. Tang is my eye doctor for many years to come! Every visit for me has been outstanding. Most recently, Erik helped me with fittings, adjusting my frames to perfection. An added bonus, I truly enjoy geeking out together on fine frames (as I did with Jon too). Erik understands the nuances of acrylic lenses incredibly well. He is patient, professional and friendly. I had a great experience at Specs I was greeted by Alyssa very quickly she was very attentive and sweet. The doctor gave me a thorough exam and even gave me a set of trialss for me to have since I was low on contacts. I browsed the great selection of glasses they had Alyssa and her coworker Ryan helped style me and helped me find a perfect pair. We just got new insurance, and therefore, we're looking for a new optometrist. The South Park location is super convenient for us, and their reviews were great, so we decided to try them out. They were able to squeeze my 3 kiddos and I in on the same day. This made things so easy. The entire staff was so sweet with not just me, but my kiddos two. One of kiddos did have to get first time glasses, and they were so so wonderful with explaining to her proper wear and care. The staff was also knowledgeable about brands and pricing of frames. My visit with the optometrist was excellent, she took her time to explain every step during the consultation. After, trying my trial contacts I never received a call to see if I had like them. I call a few times and left voicemails but no answer. When I finally was able to speak with someone I was on hold for over 15mins. I understand the office could be busy but you can take the time to offer a call back to a customer instead of leaving them on hold to long period of time. I tried calling back again another day and again no answer. It took them 30mins to received a call back and I was able to order my contacts. read more

I made an appointment at Specs, because it was in my neighborhood and had great reviews. I was paying out of pocket for my eye exam and it was surprisingly affordable. I was really expecting it to be expensive and also figured I would be pressured to buy swanky (really gorgeous) frames. In the end, I was actually told that I could just keep using readers! I purchased glasses at this location in October. In November I went into the hospital due to a stroke. I noticed that my glasses were not correcting my vision. After seeing my optometrist, in January it was discovered that my vision had changed. I don't know if it was due to the stroke. I've struggled to do a lot of everyday tasks and so I was not able to get into Specs for 3 weeks after I received my new prescription and I missed the policy's 90 day window to exchange my lenses. I asked for leniency due to my unique situation but none was considered. I was told that it wasn't up to the store but rather, the lab who makes that decision and yet no one called the lab. I'm mostly disgruntled about the lack of human understanding. It was all business and no sense of the individual beyond the business transaction. I'm disappointed more in the individuals than I am in the transaction. read more

Well, I thought I had a stellar review already posted for South Park Specs, but I don't see it, so just returned again from there and I'll do it again! I really think it's important to support small local business's because they make up our neighborhoods and in turn our city overall is just a better place! Having said that, in South Park , "Specs" is just such a great business (with other locations as well) with a huge inventory of frames, but mostly I just really like the staff! So friendly and so honestly caring about customer satisfaction. I absolutely love Dr. Fitzpatrick! I was new to San Diego, and found her randonly via my eye insurance website. She is so thorough, such a good doctor! And I really appreciated that she discussed all of the tests and procedures she was doing during the exam, and which ones would not be covered by insurer in case I didn't want to pay out of pocket (without making me feel like I might go blind if I don't pay the extra money). She has an AWESOME selection of frames! I had a really tough time deciding which ones I wanted because she had so many good ones! I had poor service at another optometry so I did a quick call to see if Specs have the frame that I wanted. Wendy was awesome and was very patient dealing with my phone's poor sound quality. I decided to stop by and check out their selections. They have a great variety of frames for a small store. Wendy was very helpful finding styles that are similar to what I was looking for. It was hard deciding which frame at the end. The order process was quick and straightforward. Monica didn't try to up sell me the highest $$$ lens since my prescriptions isn't h3.00. She showed me the breakdown on the prices that my insurance covered and my portion which was super helpful. I was referred to Specs by a friend and now I will refer this place to you! From the moment I scheduled my appointment over the phone, I was met with amazing service. Being a first time patient here, I had to fill out some paperwork but all was done online and was so easy. Specs was easy to find and is in an amazing location in South Park. I met with Dr. B who was an absolute pleasure to work with. A little tip to help your Dr....take your contact lense box, or your RX so they have a starting point. My appointment was smooth and easy and Dr. B communicated everything so clearly. The staff was amazing! I wish I remembered the young ladies name who helped me (I'm horrible with names) but she was very kind and patient. She told me where I was going to get the most bang for my buck with my insurance and helped me pick out a new pair of frames. They sent me my RX so I can order contacts at a later date as well. I drive from Carlsbad to their office because I've gone to other places and no one comes close to the level of service they offer. I have tried other optometrist and most are trying to scam you to 'get the most' from your insurance. I've spend too much of my own time and money dealing with awful optometrist like: Dr. David Bloch Optometry on 2814 Roosevelt St, Carlsbad. He should lose his license. It's amazing the difference a little tweaking makes to the frames. Best place in SD to get your eye balls done up right. Dr. Fitzpatrick recently took over the practice from the retiring eye doc and went right to work renovating the office, adding beautiful wood floors, acquiring new exam equipment and updating the eyewear selection with an extensive line of modern brands. Jenny, the very competent office manager, still runs the front office so locals who've been coming here for years have a familiar and friendly face to look forward to (in addition to the very smiley Dr. Fitz). Also, Dr. Ftiz mixes it up by going 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 instead of 1-2, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2. So that's nice. read more

The optometrist is super friendly, knowledgeable and patient and will work with you to make sure your prescription is exactly what you need. Scheduled an appointment here after seeing all of the great reviews. Dr. Fitzpatrick (and the temp doctor while she was on maternity leave) were both great. Unfortunately I had the complete opposite experience with the front desk assistant. I had the following issues over a 3 month period: - Waited six weeks for my contacts to be delivered. After three weeks I asked if there was an issue, and was told they would look into it. I never received an update. - I was told the doctor may have her baby any day now and they would contact me if they had to close early due to her going into labor. After searching and paying for parking in Little Italy I walked up to a locked door. No phone call letting me know ahead of time not to show. - Ordered frames and when it came time to purchase glasses was told they had sold the frames they ordered for me to another customer but would order more. Over a month later and they weren't ordered. Had to ask again. - Had to call three separate times over a period of two days for the receptionist to email me my prescription. Was told at the end of each phone call that she was sending it as we speak. - When I finally received the email with my prescription it was an old prescription and completely off from my current. After physically going into the office to verify my prescription she had an attitude and did not believe I had a newer prescription. I explained that it had been prescribed by the temp doc while Dr. Fitzpatrick was out. She then found my new prescription and claimed it was the temps fault and he had not saved my prescription in the correct place. It seems like most people don't have issues like this at this optometrist and have a pleasant experience. Unfortunately I will not be returning. read more
