Hot dang I love Spartas! I can't believe I've never reviewed them, what is wrong with me!? I've been hitting this place for years, since way back when I was a youngling. This ones right in downtown Bothell by the old QFC. First off a big thumbs up to Spartas for having a texting coupon dealio. When you go in, if you text Spartas to a number they've got, you get $2 off your meal and future discounts are sent to you! Yahooie! I don't get very adventurous here.... it's either lasagna, which is so cheesy, and yummy. They use danish cheese which browns up really nice. Their sauce is a bit sweet so make sure you are into that if you order anything with the red sauce. Or all of their hot subs are great and filling. They are like $9 and come with a decent sized salad (get the feta dressing!) so it's a pretty good deal. I also get a piece of garlic bread too, it's the BEST! Soaked in deliciousness and grilled until it's sort of caramelized. Service is just meh, not great, not bad, just sorta there and acceptable. Parking is a sinch. read more

Service: Waiter (Matt) was super friendly and attentive. A busser also came around frequently and checked on drinks, cleared empty glasses, etc. Service was much better this time than any prior experience I've had here. Food: The iceberg salad lettuce was crisp and fresh. They offer 7 different dressings and also sell them by the pint, so people must like it enough to take it home. I tried 3 and they were all very good. The veggie pizza was also tasty. The pizza has a bit of a smokey barbecue flavor. I think it's in the sauce but can't be sure. This flavor worked this time, but when I've sensed this same flavor in other dishes (like Parmesan) it did not work for me. Spirits: They have a surprising number of quality beers on tap and a fair number of wines from which to choose. Decor: The dining area is a little on the drab side and has been for years. Looks like it was last updated in the late 70's early 80's. Overall: I've eaten here at least 4 times over the past 6 years. Prior reviews for me have rated at 1 star because the food (beyond pizza) simply did not appeal to me. This time I played it safe and stuck with just pizza, salad, and beer and everything was fine. I had written this restaurant off previously but a family member of mine loves this place so every few years I end up here for a birthday or whatnot. I am glad this time the experience was much better than prior and I came to it with an open mind. Next time I'll try a non pizza menu item again and the stars will go up or down depending on how that goes. read more

Very good food. Avoided this place for several months because of the review about the poor kid who was allegedly scolded for using his iPod. That whole story seemed a little outrageous, but I wasn't there. Decided to give it a try last weekend and was very impressed. The restaurant was completely empty, but we came in at an unusual time. Our waitress was polite and professional. We both ordered the house salad which was under 5 dollars and a very good portion of salad. It was crisp and fresh, well worth it. The pizza, as most have said, is probably one of the best examples of pizza on planet earth. I was completely shocked. The crust is the perfect blend of light and crunchy, sauce is homemade, and the blend of cheese leaves the pizza cheesy with little to no grease visible. For premium pizza prices, it was well worth it. My only complaint was that my water glass was filled only once, and with warm water (no ice). This was in a period of about 45 minutes. Not a deal breaker, I will definitely be coming back soon. Also, we were both on our phones for the majority of the meal, and we weren't scolded for using electronics. I am wondering if that whole story was completely false or a random misunderstanding blown out of proportion. I can't imagine a business owner actually banning use of personal electronics unless they are loud and disturbing others. read more

My wife and I have been visiting this restaurant for over 20 years the manager and staff always very friendly and treat us like family. They have a nice selection of beers on tap. I'm in IPA fan. Our favorite pizza is the garlic chicken. My wife loves their potato cheddar soup but you better get there early fast it goes really fast . I give this place as many stars as I do for the service. The service was fast, attentive, and friendly. The food? Wow. Nearly inedible and my husband will eat almost anything! I think they put nutmeg in their red sauce which is fine, but spices should be added to enhance flavor, not overpower! Scanned the other reviews and totally agree with another comment about the melted cheese seeming kind of like a "scab." It was hard and most of the taste was gone, too. I would put this place right on the 2 to 3 star border. It wasn't terrible but definitely not a place I would ever go out of my way to go back to. Got a coupon in a mailer for a cheap pizza so I decided to try them out. Pizza was not bad; it was the thick style with lots of cheese and toppings (and grease!). Prices are nothing to write home about, I was glad I had a coupon. I got my pizza to go so I can't really comment on the service but I can say the place itself is not very inspiring. Smallish, definitely could use a coat of paint. Nothing terrible, but again, nothing that makes me want to come back. This seems like the kind of place that sticks around just because it's been there for a long time and survives on the fact that the locals have been coming around for years. The spices were too spiced on my spaghetti, the bread they served with it was thick and hard I will not be coming back. Meal was mediocre, bread sticks were meh, salad was meh, Beer on tap was good. (How can you screw that up?) Pizza was good, we had some sort of vegetarian pizza. No music playing when we came in (an hour before close) Overall, the vibe was uninviting. 2.5/5 I only didn't go with the 3 because there was nothing relatively memorable or amazing about my recent trip here. Usually, I can make an easy argument in my mind to confer a respectable 3 star, based on at least one aspect that stands out positively - not this time, though. It's very much your traditional "Family Run" Italian dining experience, akin to what you expect back east. Do not go here if you expect anything flashy, or for an unforgettable experience. You will leave sorely deflated. If you like a place that is well worn, in that "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" sorta way, where you don't have any elevated expectations, and don't mind spending a little extra money on mediocrity, then this place will make you very... happy. Probably also explains why the median age of patrons was probably 55 - 60. My wife had the shrimp salad, which was not highly recommended by our waiter, so kudos to him for being honest and upfront about what to avoid. She still had a craving that sent her down that path. Within 5 minutes she had her salad - as uninspiring as it was, it remained nothing more than a clump of individual ingredients occupying their little quadrants, the shrimp itself being only "OK". Some 15 minutes later I received my pizza. Though, in the meantime, starving, as I watched my wife partaking in her meal, my stomach churned. At this point, I suppose I could have flagged down our waiter and had him rush a quick appetizer, instead I steeled myself, as the medium pizza reportedly running $25, seemed like enough money had already been committed on this underwhelming experience... Especially after factoring in drinks, and my wife's $12 salad. The pizza was reasonable. It was their Mike's Special, I believe. The dough was dense and maintained a consistent rigidity. The pesto/alfredo was bold, as expected, though on the verge of overpowering and a little heavy on the oily side. The chicken was, as most other ingredients, just " OK". For the price and overall quality of ingredients, there are far superior options. Deru, in Kirkland, will blow you away with their brick oven Chicken Presto pizza, and for a solid $5-8 less. With all of the renovations happening in that area, this place could really stand to follow suit. If that 6 Oaks condo/apartment complex manages to draw in a solid force of Millennials, as the changing of the guard ushers in the next generation of customers, expectations will be much higher and this place will be better poised to do well, if they prepare for the changing times. read more

Two staff were at that table and all of us waiting were ignored for WAY too long. Both staff would glance over at us from time to time. We eventually left. Holy cow, came here with a kid's school group and didn't think I would fall in love with a Pizza place. The pizzas are hands down the best here. Chicago style in that the toppings are between the crust and the cheese layer on top. Best I've had on the west coast. Even better than Pizza My Heat (and that's hard to beat). read more

This is a Bothell classic! About the only thing I ever get here are the Sparta's salads. They use a type of Danish cheese I can't find anywhere and it seriously tastes like heaven. Beyond the salad, however, their food is about what you would expect to find in a suburb like Bothell. It's mediocre and bland. The menu has never really changed. They don't have specials. I also can't stand their red sauce for some reason. If they mixed up their menu and used a better red sauce I'd probably really like this restaurant. read more

The pesto sauce is a nice, light, olive oil-based sauce. Nothing exciting but a very basic and tasty one.. The pizza is a wonderful greek-style pizza. The crust is chewy and flaky with a sweet seasoned sauce. They load it with toppings and then cover it with imported cheese until it looks like a deep dish pizza...but wait! it's not! You get a gooey, delectable treat that is more filling than NY style pizza and not as dough-heavy as chicago deep dish (or stuffed) pizza. mmmm...pizza! read more

The pizza is good but not the best in the universe. They serve the stuffed type of pizza where the cheese on top comes out crusty which I happen to like. I got pepperoni and sausage. Again good but not the best. I would stay away from the salad. It was fresh but tasteless. I agree with other reviews that there is little to no ambiance. The lack of music is noticeably odd. I had no problem with the waitresses. They we're perfectly nice and attentive. If the place is to stay in business they need to update the decor and add some flavor to the menu before their current clientele dies out. read more

My fiancé and I go to this Sparta's once a month and have always had a great experience. The food and service are both excellent and everything is very reasonably priced. We always get a dinner, either Baked Spaghetti or Basked Lasagna, sometimes with the sausage. These meals come with garlic bread and a salad. It seems that everyone loves their pizzas, which have a medium-sized crust but seem thick because of the insane layer of cheese and toppings. While we like very thin crust NY-style pizza, we opt for the meals, but when we have parties at Spartas, everyone else LOVES the pizza. And if you look around at the tables, it seems like everyone does. This is an amazing place for large parties as they are used to them and handle them much better than other restaurants I have been to. We have had a few birthdays here and it's always been tremendous fun. The icing on the cake is that their tiramisu is the best I've ever had. read more

I don't often eat pizza, but every once in a while I like to indulge the boy. We went here because I felt the need for some summer food, and I wasn't disappointed. Yes, the salad is standard bag iceberg with cheese and olives, but it was surprisingly good, all things considered. Could use some improvement, definitely, but not awful. I got a personal pizza, which was just about exactly the right amount of food. The boyfriend got a small so that he could take the leftovers for lunch, and it was easily 3 meals worth. Next time, we'll probably just split a small. That said, the pizza was amazing. Hot, cheesy, plenty of toppings. I'll probably never try any of the other food, but even for a non-pizza person like me, this was worth revisiting. We'll definitely be going back. read more

OMG it's cheese-a-riffic! We always get a Sparta's special when we want to wow company with our local pizza. Can't go wrong. Dig on there salad with the feta dressing. One slice and a salad and you have a great meal. Little goes a very long way. We usually get take out but ate there once and service was great. Clean. Friendly staff. Cold beer. Awesome service from Morris and great lunch prices! I had cannelloni and it was good but the dish was pretty greasy cause of all the cheese although the meat sauce had tons of flavor. My daughter had the Alfredo and after it was really good but really runny. I think that next time we will check out the pizza! We will come back again soon! read more

This is not the same Sparta standards whatsoever. It is so sad to see this poor quality of food compared to how wonderful it was years ago. We ordered a pizza with Italian Sausage, veggies, and extra Cheese. It had basically no sauce which looked like they just smeared up to a good 3inches from the edges, the sausage had zip flavor a strange texture like it had been flash frozen. It is something that you would expect if you lived on Mars and this was your only choice. The White cheese is so dry and tasteless and had no hot goopy to it. We use to love this place too! You would be better off getting a pizza from Costco....Sad to say! read more

Had dinner here for the first time last night and happy we found it! They have great customer service and the food was good. I got to try both their sauces before ordering and like them together verses on their own, just my personal preference. We will definitely go again, but I'll try something different (had the manicotti and caniloni). And the Spartans salad with blue cheese may be simple, but I loved it! read more

I've heard this place described as Greek style pizza. We've never had a bad experience in the 40 years I've been visiting Sparta's (both locations). Every pizza here is so good that on one occasion after we'd started eating we realized that they got our order waaaaay wrong, nobody wanted to let the 'bad' pizza go. They fixed a new pizza and gave us the other for free. Atmosphere is warm, staff is friendly, and they give you 15% off around your birthday. You should just go, now!
