Grossly gross is what Sparta's is. I was under the impression I would be dining at an authentic Italian restaurant, but oh how wrong I was. What a disappointing shock it was to see Danish Cheese listed on the entire menu. My dinner was horrible! I can't believe their sorry excuse for a salad. It was a pre bagged salad mix of iceberg lettuce, shredded carrots and purple cabbage (you know the one, you can buy it at any market) topped with about half a cup of sliced black olives and a cup or more of their prided Danish cheese. To make it worse, my lettuce was frost bitten and the house Italian dressing was flavorless. The entree I ordered was the baked manicotti styled cheese and cannelloni styled meat with marinara sauce. Before I took my first bit of what I thought would be the edible portion of my meal I had to pull back a heavy layer of, yes you guessed it Danish cheese. I'm not sure what was in the manicotti, but it didn't fulfill my craving for ricotta cheese. The lack of meat in the cannelloni was yet again disappointing along with the overly sweetened marinara sauce which didn't help in seasoning the meat with a pleasant flavor. The meal also came with texas toast brushed with a whimpy garlic butter not real garlic bread. My husband's spaghetti entree was laughable. I thought we had time traveled back in time to the eighties. The rim of his bowl was garnished with parmesan cheese. The side of meatballs were an absolutely disgusting mushy consistency, I'm sure they were frozen. I know he wasn't satisfied because he didn't seem frustrated with me for constantly complaining about our meals. The cheese on the two kid's pizza's we ordered was enough to constipate them for a week. They couldn't bit off a piece of pizza due to the amount of cheese, so I suggested they take the cheese off because I feared I would have to perform the heimlich maneuver on them. When your seven year old references Sparta's quote "The best pizza in the universe" with utter disappointment you can only promise her that you'll cook dinner for her when you get home even though the whole reason for going out to dinner was to not cook dinner. read more

The absolute best pizza place on the eastside, and possibly the best I've ever been to. The pizza crust is thick and chewy, the toppings are generous, the prices are reasonable and the service is super-friendly. We always order the large mushroom pizza (with double mushroom) and Sparta's dinner salad. The drinks are bottomless cup and the wait staff is good about picking up empty cups and returning with refilled glasses. The desert menu is a bit slim, but we go for the excellent pizza. There's plenty of parking and you almost never have to wait for a table. read more

The pizzas are a little overpriced but they are delicious. I love the crust and the danish cheese. The service is usually pretty good but could be a little hit or miss. One time we went and order a pizza that was 1/2 and 1/2. The kitchen staff made an error and the waiter brought it out letting us know when he brought it out that it was wrong (unlike some other places that notice it and hope you wont!). He said he was going back to the kitchen to have them make another pizza and that we could just eat that one while we were waiting. What a gem!! I'd passed this place several times since my Nov-2006 relocation from Kentucky, and I finally had a chance to visit Saturday evening for dinner. The interior is spacious and relaxed, the staff is friendly, attentive, and competent, the prices quite reasonable, the menu extensive, the portions generous, and the food----oh yes, the food----was DELICIOUS! I tried the Chicken Parmesan, served with a bowl of spaghetti and really thick slice of garlic bread. I recommend it highly. I couldn't help but notice nearby diners enjoying what looked to be tasty pizza, fresh salads, and other Italian delights. I wish this place were closer to where I live, but it definitely will be worth future trips. read more

Sparta's is unique. The place has been here a long time, you've probably driven by it hundreds of times but never really noticed it. It looks like it was decorated in the 80's and never updated. It has an old-school American-Italian slant that is in no way authentic to Italy. We go here specifically for the gazillion calorie pizza. We're a very healthy family, but once in a while you want one of those "Chicago" style thick pizzas. It's not really Chicago style but it's close. The cheese has an airiness that's sort of unique. Yet the pies are extremely dense and filling. Our family of 4 cannot finish one of them. It's great for families because the booths are roomy and private, but the room is well lit and service is good. Lines can be long and it takes a while to receive your food, because pizzas this thick take time. read more

It could just be that I distaste the cooking style of their pizza, where others may think it's great, but I found it fairly disgusting. It's the smell of the pizza primarily. They seem to broil or in some way brown the top of the pizza, which makers the cheese very chewy and scab-like. I found the smell of it to be pretty nauseating to be honest, and I did something I haven't done in years: I did not finish a pizza. Half of my large went straight into the trash, and I had that taste in my mouth of that browned, scab-like cheese for the next couple days. Sparta's legitimately ranks near the very bottom for me among pizzas I can recall eating, well behind most frozen options. I would definitely recommend Pizza Hut or Dominos ahead of this option, even if they were two or three times farther away. read more

One of the worst restaurant experiences I've had to date. Terrible wait staff, and it seems as if the owners children are some of the only people running the floor. We came in and we are greater by a younger guy, he grabs some menus and lets us know he'll show us to our table. Then the manager on the floor tells us to wait, so instead of going to be seated we are now sitting there staring at her while she continues with another couple who weren't their when we arrived. The building itself was nothing spectacular. The tables were covered in a table cloth that basically served as a blanket with how long it was. We were seated next to an group of elderly adults. The prices are on the higher end, and for entirely no good reason. The menu screams of Americanized Italian food, nothing special. Standard pasta and pizza. A plain pepperoni ran us over $25. We go ahead and order it anyway. The table next to us start having a heated discussion about being pro-white supremacy. Now I'm sitting here being forced to drown out the fact that I'm spending way too much money on a plain old run do the mill pizza, by listening to a group of racist men. The pizza comes out, and it sucks. Its nothing better than papa johns. The sauce is lacking flavor, the pepperoni is cheap quality, and the cheese tasted like American cheese. The waiter comes to serve the racist table next to us, and he himself starts indulging in their comments about how the white community should be allowed segregated colleges. The waiter replies with,"if they can have one why can't we." At this point I'm fed up and down. I ask for my check, and as I'm leaving I let the manager on the floor know I have not been more ashamed to support a business in my life. I will not be supporting the company further, and I will not support a company that feels comfortable having employees who make racist comments. The pizza or my time is not worth that. Has the food changed? I remember the minestrone being awesome but it was anything but. I ordered extra olives but didn't get any. Didn't want to ask a second time. Order the dish with noodles and Italian sausage which was smothered in cheese. It was nothing special. Danish cheese is okay and marinara wasn't anything great. Links were flavorful so I def like that. Tiramisu was good. It had hot fudge and lady fingers in it so that made me happy. Overall it was an above average meal but nothing out of the park. Love eating here. The waitstaff is always friendly and the food has that extra bit of flavor and flair that keeps them ahead of the larger chain Italian restaurants. Really good pizza, awesome sandwiches and great pasta! The danish cheese that this restaurant puts on everything is so delicious! There is something a little different about these dishes, but I can't quite put my finger on it--very yummy. We always take out of town guests here or order in. The only negative thing that I'm not so crazy about are the salads. Iceberg lettuce is the only thing they use--no spinach, romaine, etc. This would definitely be an improvement! read more

The decor is a little cheesy,and when I walked in, the place was empty. It filled up quickly, however! I waited for service for a full minute when three guys were sitting around chatting with each other. One of them finally turned around and seated me. A happy surprise. I tried to meet a friend at the Mexican joint across the street and it was so crowded I couldn't even park to see how long the wait was. I quickly found Sparta's and changed plans. We split a half crate of white, I got a small salad and she got a personal pizza. Though I really wish the salads had options for greens rather than ice burg, it was surprisingly good! I think it is the cheese they put on paired with the generous dressing. My friend enjoyed her personal pizza and had a few bites of my yummy salad. I'll be back when I am more hungry because the pasta entrees seem like a great deal, they come with salad and greasy, yummy looking garlic bread. Not a ton of vegetarian pasta options, but a few. The minestrone has a beef broth so that's a bummer. The place looks decent, I didn't know the red sauce has cinnamon in it....honestly makes it have an Indian food flavor and I'm not partial to it in the slightest. The waiter was some snotty teenage kid who acted like we were torturing him each time we asked him anything .....basically whenever he was prompted to do his job. Anyhow the food made me sick the entire rest of the day and them I found out that my entire party got sick from their food. im sure it's not like this every time.....but wow...... not impressed and not coming back... the thing that blew my mind was that they were apparently raising prices.....but why pay twice the price of what it's worth. I heard about this restaurant at a 5k fundraiser for special needs kids in the school district. They had a booth and were clearly supporting the run. That made me want to try them out. Once I got there, it was amazing. The food was great, the service was spot on and my husbands and I had a great date night. I highly recommend this gem near the heart of downtown Bothell. read more

We have become regulars at Sparta's in Bothell. We visit at least once a month and for special occasions. Our family of 5 enjoys the Pizza the most. The baked Danish cheese is the best part. Service and atmosphere are always excellent. A very friendly family establishment. My only suggestion would be more sauce on the pie, but we usually order a side of red sauce for dipping and everyone is happy. read more
