The facility is clean and all the therapists are so good, knowledgable, and very skilled in their practice. My pregnancy was not easy as I developed physical issues such as carpal tunnel on both hands along with Mommy Thumb on both wrists. The pain was also tough on my hips, feet, and back as I kept getting bigger and more and more swollen. SN was a once a week retreat for myself where I found rest and relaxation. I would always wake up from a deep slumber because I would get totally blissed out. Nearing 39-40 weeks, I decided to get induction added to my massages..and low and behold, I went into labor a day after. Now I go to SP for my post partum care. Im unable to go to a regular massage therapist as I'm lactating and it hurts when I lay on my belly. The therapists at SP will always accommodate me w/this as well as adding on the C section massage which has helped my scar greatly during the healing process. I came in a few days ago for a treatment with Marna and all I can say is WOW! I've yet to find anywhere in LA after a decade living here that offers reflexology as good as the place I used to go to in London, but Marna is even better. My heartburn/acid reflux has noticeably subsided since she worked on the associated pressure points, and my swollen feet are much less painful than before. She is a truly skilled reflexologist and was quick to adjust the pressure whenever it got too much for me in certain areas. As this is my first pregnancy, I was definitely looking for a place that specializes in prenatal massages to ensure that I am good hands. I came across Sparrow's Nest and immediately booked a 60min massage with Callie after reading some Yelp reviews. This 60mins has been the most blissful hour I've had, being 15weeks pregnant. I felt completely comfortable and relaxed as Callie worked on the focus areas we discussed. Callie has a firm yet gentle touch. I loved that she applied a good amount of pressure on my shoulders and really worked out the knots. As for my tailbone, she was able to accurately pinpoint all the tense areas. I never thought I could get such a great massage while laying sideways and pregnant. As the tensions and knots were being worked on, it felt so good that I fell asleep. I bought one of the packages so I went several times over the last 5 months of my pregnancy. There were two main therapists that I switched between. Callie had a nice deep pressure so her sessions were perfect for when I needed to work out my hips, back and shoulders. And Cindy had a great lighter pressure/yoga-type energy for when I just wanted to relax. Both were fantastic. I like that this place has a wider variety of therapists that can cater to your specific needs at that moment. I was 39 weeks along for the very last massage and decided to make it an induction massage with Cindy. The baby kicked so hard during the session that I almost fell off the table! Wow. I'm currently 6 months pregnant and wish I had found this place earlier. My husband surprised me with a prenatal massage so I had no idea what kind of place to expect and wasn't able to research on yelp like I usually do. The place is super cute and felt really zen. I actually arrived a little early, but Joyslynn didn't have me wait. I felt so comfortable and wish I can go here again, but I was visiting the area so not sure when I'll be back. The reason I choose Sparrow's Nest was because other reviews mentioned Sparrow's Nest specializes in prenatal massage. That was important to me and coming to their space really validated my decision. I felt that a lot of heart and intention went into creating this space and the people who work here like Joslynn want to make sure pregnant people and new parents feel welcomed. Really think about your readiness for the labor induction massage. I booked the massage after my OB told me my baby was on pace to be a 9 lb baby and I should do whatever I could to induce my labor so I could avoid a c-section. I scheduled the massage for when I was 39 weeks. The massage itself was great - super relaxing, my masseuse explained the pillow support system they used and the oils they'd use on me. I requested an outdoor massage and they were able to accommodate on the 4th of July with 2 days notice. They also refused the tip I tried to leave. I felt super safe pandemic precautions-wise. But then I spent the rest of the day hoping it wouldn't work because I wasn't ready to have a baby. I'm a nurse, my husband is a doctor, we both didn't believe this massage would actually work but it would be a nice thing for me to do regardless as a super pregnant woman. I had the massage at 4pm and my water broke the next morning around 8am. I was in denial for almost a whole day when I was leaking all over the apartment and started having contractions. My baby came a week early absolutely perfect. No c-section. My husband has stopped making fun of the idea of a labor induction massage. read more

This was the worst massage experience for me. This was not my first prenatal massage so I was surprised how badly this went. Before she even started I mentioned that I was very uncomfortable with the positioning of all of the support pillows. Pillows are not one size fits all and these were definitely not right for me. She tried to move them around but they ended up causing tightness and pain in my back that wasn't there before. I had also mentioned that I was experiencing glute/leg pain during pregnancy and she didn't ask questions about it which made me feel like she wasn't familiar with this type of pain or was assuming it was something without clarifying. Ultimately, I cut the massage short and left in a lot more pain than when I showed up. Another thing that concerned me a bit was that I complained that the baby was moving abnormally and she just continued without explanation or without helping me get into a better position. Lastly, the massage felt very dry. She was using the massage oil sparingly which is very unusual and wasn't very comfortable. Update in response to business owner: 1) I never mentioned sciatic nerve pain. That was an incorrect assumption made by the massage therapist. She did not ask clarifying questions to confirm that this was the correct issue to treat. 2) Using lack of hydration as a justification for a poor massage experience is inaccurate and not appropriate. I drink plenty of water, which is not something the massage therapist inquired about at all. 3) The exact positioning of my baby was not discussed with the massage therapist. I would not know which side my baby was on without an ultrasound to confirm. The most important part is that I expressed concern about abnormal movement and no action was taken to make me and the baby more comfortable. 4) My review is the second 1-star review. I received two massages during my pregnancy from Sparrow's nest. The first was a regular prenatal massage from Tanya at their previous location in Eagle Rock. I had just started my last trimester and I was exhausted, mentally and physically. This was last December, during a Covid spike and I was anxious about getting sick but really needed some self care. The room was clean, the windows open for air flow and there was an air purifier, my massage therapist was masked and I felt very safe. The massage was incredible, I actually fell asleep during part of it. I felt so relaxed and taken care of, I also felt like I was in capable hands. Many places claim to do prenatal massage but are not properly trained to do so- this is not the case with Sparrow's nest. My second massage was a labor induction massage at their new Pasadena location the Saturday before my (Friday) "due date". I was concerned about all the stories I hear from first time Moms about going past their due dates and being pressured into inductions. I was willing to try anything! The labor induction massage was VERY different than the prenatal massage. My therapist focused on specific acupressure points with such power that at times it was uncomfortable (she warned me about this beforehand) and I could literally feel my baby swimming in a downward motion. I ended up going into labor on my own a few days later on Wednesday night, baby came peacefully into the world on Thursday! I wholeheartedly recommend Sparrow's Nest to any expecting Mom. The price is worth it to be treated by folks who are knowledgeable in safe prenatal massage techniques. I was trying to avoid getting an induction so came in for a labor induction massage after reading all the 5 star reviews of how it worked. I was so excited lol and well my husband loved telling me he was right when it didn't work. It didn't work for me and I get that your body just might not be ready. The massage itself was good. I mentioned I was experiencing sciatica pain on my right side and my masseuse worked on it and it felt amazing, kind of was hoping she worked it a little more but still left with improvement so that's good. I also was surprised at how much the masseuse sparked up conversation during my entire massage as I was expecting silence to really relax. I appreciated little suggestions here and there but not a full on conversation my whole massage. I'm soo glad I found this Nest! I just had my 60 minute massage with Angelica and let me tell you how much better I feel afterwards! I love the environment walking in very spa like and relaxing. I arrived early had a cup of tea addressed my issues and concerns directly with my therapist who made me feel soo comfortable. After my massage I was ready for a nap!!! I really appreciated how she addressed my specific pregnancy issues and adapted the pressure to what I was comfortable with. The pillow system is great. This is a long overdue review. I have now seen Sparrow throughout several different points of pregnancy and postpartum, and through two kids. She was meant to do this work and is so good at what she does. It's hard to find practitioners who are not only good at what they do, but also have the warmth and genuine concern for your well being that she has. I first saw Sparrow back in 2017 when I was pregnant with my first child. As the pregnancy went on I was having pains in my hips when I decided to see her for a prenatal massage. Within 5 minutes of talking to me she knew what the issue was and proceeded to give me a great massage. That pain did not come back for the rest of the pregnancy. I continued to see her for a wonderful post partum massage where all the bolsters and pillows she used put me at ease, and I didn't have to put pressure on my breastfeeding chest. Fast forward to 2020 when I was having trouble conceiving and already had several miscarriages. After going through some ivf options, I decided that it wasn't for me and wanted something more natural. I started on acupuncture and around the same time, decided to see Sparrow for Mercier therapy during the pandemic. I was impressed by Sparrow's ability to pivot her business quickly and conduct these sessions outdoors in a beautiful relaxing space. One thing I really treasured during our sessions was that I could get her opinions on certain questions I had about pregnancy and fertility. She would give me answers that did not try to sway me in any direction but gave me peace of mind. I found out I was pregnant shortly after my last Mercier session. Throughout my pregnancy and beyond, Sparrow would check in on me often, and continue to provide nonjudgemental guidance and support. I saw her team for prenatal massage as well as induction massage. Like I said, Sparrow has been with me through it all, and I feel lucky having had her be a part of my fertility journey. I have seen other practitioners for massage, and one thing I've come to realize that makes Sparrow and her team's massages so great is that they are gentle and ease slowly into the muscles. I tend to get ticklish and squirmy during a massage but the way they work, they really listen to your muscles in your body and what it needs at the moment, they don't just jump right in and go through the motions of massage like other practitioners may.
