We are a same sex couple and had previously worked with a different fertility clinic which gave us 2 beautiful children. We loved the doctor there but decided to transfer to a fertility clinic closer to us and one that would take our special circumstances into account. I am 42 and this is the last chance for me to get pregnant because personally I don't want to be older and pregnant. The first appointment with Dr. Kolb I felt at home. He is personable, professional and he trusted in us and our experience-I had been pregnant 8 previous times with 4 children. He also took transferred embryos as some doctors at HRC don't allow transferred embryos. We decided to move forward with him as our doctor. From the date of my cycle and the communication that ensued his nurse Vikki was communicative and replied promptly. There was no confusion or miscommunication about medications, appointment dates, dosages. Our previous clinic severely lacked in the admin side of things so this was a really nice change! Dr. Kolb did all my ultrasounds and was always pleasant. The day of our transfer came and it went smoothly. All the post-transfer instructions were clear and easy to understand. There isn't a single day that goes by that when I look at my child, and I am not reminded of the journey and fight we had to endure to bring him here. With a whole lot of love, and a WHOLE lot of science- Dr. Kolb, and my incredible nurse Natalie, finally made me a mother. Dr. Kolb is dedicated, compassionate, and personable. His knowledge and expertise is abundantly clear, and I always appreciated the time he took to explain to me what he was doing, why he was doing, and answering all of my questions with thoughtfulness and care. He is kind and gentle, both in spirit and his words. Prior to IVF, I was seeing an acupuncturist who specializes in infertility, and is also a midwife at Kaiser. When we realized that our next steps would be IVF, she was adamant I see Dr. Kolb. For someone who balances both eastern and western medicine in her own profession, I really trusted her referral and am forever grateful that she led me to him at HRC. My nurse and coordinator, Natalie, is an angel of a human. Her patience, dedication, and protection she offered me while my husband and I navigated the intense world of IVF is something I feel like most people in our shoes don't get to experience with their medical team. I truly don't know what I would have done without her- she held me up in times of grief or anxiety, reassured me with optimism and hope, and was always, ALWAYS available when I needed her. Horrible experience with Dr. Kolb and HRC. After I "fired" HRC, I started to work with a different IVF center, and what a dramatic difference in results! I became Dr. Kolb's patient as a 37-year old healthy woman. My husband and I had no heath or genetic issues, which HRC's tests confirmed. There is no family history of infertility (in fact, the evidence of the opposite, "extreme" fertility with pregnancies occurring on birth control, exists). Months later after starting IVF at HRC, I felt emotionally, physically and financially ($32,100 expense; zero results) abused like I never felt and hopefully will never feel again. But I never doubted that I would have a baby, even though it seemed like HRC (i.e., Dr. Kolb and Elisa Ramos, manager) tried to instill the idea that IVF failures had nothing to do with their incompetence and negligence but were entirely stemming from my physical inability (which proved to be inaccurate later at a different IVF center). I had 2 IVF cycles with Dr. Kolb: 1st IVF cycle. Only 1 mature egg retrieved (proved to be unusable for transfer/PGS abnormal). This was a very pitiful IVF outcome - I can produce a mature egg naturally every month without spending thousands of dollars on hormones and doctors. The whole point of taking hormones is to amplify what nature already does for us, and HRC/Dr. Kolb seem unaware of these basics. I communicated to Dr. Kolb that the result of his work was unacceptable, and he promised to fine-tune the protocol for the 2nd IVF cycle. 2nd IVF cycle. Under Dr. Kolb's "improved protocol," the number of mature eggs retrieved this time was... zero. This was so ridiculous that it made me laugh. By the way, none of the significant communications were delivered by Dr. Kolb. I realized something was wrong with HRC and switched to a different IVF center (Dr. Kuo's IVF Fertility Center, also in Pasadena), at which I only had to go through/pay for one IVF cycle to finally experience amazing results (in just one cycle, 5 mature eggs were retrieved, 2 survived to blastocyst stage and are ready for transfer). Based on the knowledge I accumulated thanks to my experiences at the terrible center (HRC Pasadena and Dr. Kolb) and at the excellent one (Dr. Kuo's IVF Fertility Center), below are my observations on why IVF cycles at HRC failed: 1. HRC miscalculated timing of retrieval (major driver of IVF success vs failure). As part of IVF cycle, a patient receives an exorbitant amount of hormones to allow multiple eggs to grow quickly. The growth of eggs must be monitored carefully (ultra-sound checks) to properly calculate the timing of egg retrieval. Miscalculation by one day can result in the dying of matured eggs (if retrieval date is set too late) or in retrieval of immature eggs that won't fertilize or survive. Upon examination of medical records, it appears that both of my retrieval dates were set too late. I believe the reason Dr. Kolb/his junior doctor (?) assigned late dates to me was his overpacked schedule: plenty of other clients were scheduled for the date that would be right for my retrieval. 2. Ultra-sound appointments rarely performed by Dr. Kolb. Although he did perform some, Dr. Kolb heavily relied on the assistance of his junior doctor to perform my ultra-sounds. I forgot what his face looked like during my 2nd cycle. The importance of ultra-sound checks is immense: they allow to (i) adjust the dosage of hormones and (ii) set proper timing for retrieval. Dr. Kolb's junior doctor was the one who set my retrieval date (the outcome was disastrous ). 3. Dosage of hormones was not adjusted. Dr. Kolb does not take time to examine the growth of follicles during an approx. 10-day hormone injection period, therefore does not adjust the dosage of hormones. The new center I switched to adjusted dosage on each of my ultra-sound visits every other day. 4. HRC does not recommend IVF cycles that show poor potential for cancellation. At the new center I switched to, Dr. Kuo canceled, with full refund, two IVF cycles that he thought would not be successful. One IVF cycle that Dr. Kuo approved resulted in 2 normal embryos (blastocysts). Again, at HRC I paid for 2 wasteful IVF cycles. 5. No interest in your success. I got an impression that HRC wants your IVF to fail so you become a repeat client. Based on their full lobby (at times it was hard to find seats) it seems they don't turn down new patients no matter how busy they are, hence, rob you of the quality you expect to receive for the money you pay. At my current IVF center led by Dr. Kuo (not HRC), I was given an appointment 5 months away from the date of my call, which was the result of their limited acceptance and "every customer is a VIP" policy - and I've been truly feeling that way under Dr. Kuo's care. At HRC, especially after talking to Elisa Ramos (manager), I predominantly felt degraded and unworthy. The only ray of light was Nancy De Leon, a genuinely caring nurse with the kindest heart. read more

I look forward to my weekly visits with Dr. Kolb at HRC. Every visit is a pleasant experience: from the parking lot security guard saying "hello", to the friendly receptionist/ front desk staff greeting us in the beautiful lobby. After I grab my tea, a magazine, and wait patiently for my appointment, the phlebotomists calls my name, greets me, and is genuinely happy to see me. Then, for my exam, my husband and I are greeted by Dr. Kolb and his super star nurse, Natalie. He is very honest, takes the time to explain all our options, and always answers all our questions. Dr. Kolb's team is very passionate about what they do, supportive and understanding towards their patient's needs. Even when Dr. Kolb has a busy schedule with patients, as soon as he enters our exam room, he is calm, takes his time, and makes us feel like we are his only priority patients. Dr. Kolb is the best and nicest doctor I have ever had. We end our visit by checking out with the Finance staff, who politely answer any of our questions and wish us a great day. HRC is like family and they care about my well-being. We are really happy to have had Dr. Kolb and Natalie on our 'team' during our journey over the past three years. Dr. Kolb was referred to me by my former OB/GYN. Our journey with Dr. Kolb was a long one. It took us four years before we became successful. All throughout this journey we trusted Dr. Kolb and his team. I've had different nurses but the nurse that stayed with me the longest was Flor Parada. She taught me how to administer medication on myself and was always responsive to my emails. Dr. Kolb was always genial and pleasant. I know that with each failed cycle he tried to find a solution or protocol that would work. His perseverance and our patience paid off! First off, I would like to start by saying Dr. Kolb gave my wife and I a chance to achieve our long awaited goal of becoming parents to a biological child. We are now 3 months into the pregnancy, and if all goes smoothly will become proud parents of a little boy soon. This is NOT our first try with IVF; Dr. Kolb is our 2nd fertility doctor. We made steps toward a pregnancy with our first doctor, but ultimately fell short of achieving it. Instead of writing a long and drawn out review, I'm going to make this easy to read and to-the-point, so whoever is reading this will get a sense of our experience with him, and be able to make an informed decision about whether Dr. Kolb is right for them. In no specific order of importance or scale, below describes our experience with Dr. Kolb: - personable and genuinely caring (to me his best attributes) - speaks in layman's terms so you understand exactly where you stand in the process - team staff is knowledgeable and caring as well (Natalie took the time to give us a lot of insight, which was helpful in providing reassurance, and calming us when we felt unsure and nervous at times) - took the time to study our case to determine the best course of action - maintained a positive outlook even when things may not have looked so promising at certain points during the process - honest about certain not-so-pleasant aspects of the procedure (such as daily injections), letting us know the reason it's still necessary and at the end will help us get to where we want to go - setting proper and realistic expectations, so we are never misled in any way during the process I understand IVF can be one of the most personal experiences one can encounter in life, and the outcome can really dictate how one feels about one's doctor. I have put off writing this review for so long because I know whatever I say is not enough to express how grateful I am for Dr. Kolb and the best nurse ever, Nancy DeLeon. There is so much I can say about these two, but I can't be more glad that I got them as my team during my IVF treatment. My treatment was with them full blown pandemic time, started February 2020, had my egg retrieval June 2020, my first transfer August 2020 (unfortunately failed), and my second transfer October 2020 (with that little baby resting on my chest as I write this). I put off treatment a little in the start of the pandemic because I was unsure of how the office was going to run (because others were shutting down) and didn't know what effects covid could have on my self or baby during the treatments if it came in my path. Dr. Kolb assured me every step of the way that treatment timing was in my hands and I could continue at any time. That he and Nancy would be there for me whenever I was ready and their office was following every precaution necessary to keep us safe and healthy which they did 100% and never shut down since I was with them the full 2020 year, and that I just needed to do what I had to do to keep my self safe and healthy outside of HRC. Dr. Kolb was there for all of my appointments/ultrasounds he did every single one including on weekends! I had questions at every single appointment (because I over think) and he always answered everything and calmed me down before I left so I always left there with nothing extra to worry about. He paid close attention to everything through out my cycle, adjusting medications and time frames from how my body was reacting to have the best outcome. Even when my first transfer failed he reassured me that we would keep trying and he would keep working with me to figure things out until I got my sweet little baby which I did. I've read a couple reviews that say he's a little short with you but he's to the point and maybe that's what they are confusing as being short with you. That's what I loved about him because that's what I needed someone who would tell me how it is and to not worry about or over think things. He made me feel comfortable at every appointment and not like I was just another number to him, which I appreciate. IVF is an extremely stressful process and Nancy was by my side thru every step of it, at the office, once I left thru emails, me calling her 10 times a day, even on weekends and afternoon/nights she would reach out to me. I was never left wondering or scared about something because she would check on me or reach out to me every step of the way and I can't thank her enough because I truly feel like she went thru everything with me and really cared, not just because it is her job. I do not know what I would have done or how that stressful time would have went if I did not have Nancy on my team. I was working full time thru it all and she always accommodated and made whatever was going on in my life work with the treatment and visits taking extra stress out of the picture. She never left me in the dark even on her days off she would make sure the other nurses took care of me and set me up the way she would have if she were there and I can't thank her enough for being there for me! I know this review is long, but for any one considering IVF I know you are most likely doing your research on who will fit best with your self and I can't recommend Dr. Kolb and Nancy De Leon enough! I have told everyone who asks about my IVF journey about them and how amazing they are (even my labor nurse who delivered my baby lol). The whole team at HRC Pasadena was always nice and attentive. back to Dr Kolb. He is personable and really knows your case even though all the doctors there has so many patients. He comes into the exam rooms always makes you feel welcome by shaking your hands and asks how you are doing. Then after the exams you go into a consultation room. and Dr Kolb along with your designated nurse (mine was Natalie....love love love her) will sit down and see if you have any questions or concerns. I have a lot of questions throughout the whole process and he has not once told me he doesn't have time for me or rushes me into something i'm not 100% sure of. he doesn't base his decisions off money at all (like literally at all which some other clinics do) ....he really really cares and wants to see everyone with a mini-me of their own. I have moved quite far from Pasadena and I still make the 2 hours drive to see him. Sometime when i have an early 7am appointment with Dr Kolb, i'll have to leave the house at 5am but still totally worth it. Throughout the whole process from exams, retrieval, implantation and follow ups exam to the 3rd month...Dr Kolb has been with us all the way. he didn't push us to another doctor after the implantation like I hear other doctors do. I will need to have a cerclage when I get pregnant again and Dr Kolb spent a lot of time researching which doctors were best and ultimately found one for me. long story short, I really recommend Dr Kolb and Natalie. they really care and these two dynamic duos has always been there for me during the highs and lows of IVF. I simply cannot say enough good things about Dr. Kolb. We were referred by my sister, who also saw Dr. Kolb a few years ago and now has 2 beautiful boys. We went to see him as soon as we realized we might have infertility issues, and we left his office knowing we were in good hands. He gave us options and hope. He never pushed and we really felt like we were partners in our plan. He kept us informed of every procedure and the likely next steps. His staff (Marie, Natalie and Janine) was very warm and helpful, always getting back to us in a timely matter. They understand how hard it is to go through this process and are always there for support and valuable information. Everyone, even the nurse who took my blood tests (Hasmik) was so supportive and positive. We got pregnant on our first cycle of IVF and are now 15 weeks pregnant with twins! Our last appointment with him was bittersweet, as we were doing well and had "graduated" and now able to continue care with our OB, but were not going to be in his capable hands anymore. It is hard to know where to turn when faced with infertility. Of course you want the best care at the most affordable price, given that most infertility treatment is not covered by insurance. My first meeting with Dr. Kolb was in August, 2003. I was referred to him by a friend who had success conceiving her son. I never checked the stats back then and given the volume of patients HRC sees vs. other, smaller local clinics, their success rates are somewhat negatively impacted, but after meeting with Dr. Kolb, I knew that when we were ready to proceed, if it came to that, he would be my doctor of choice. I did have success with my 2nd IVF, When my son was 5 months, we began treatment again in the hopes of completing our family with a 2nd child. I stayed with Dr. Kolb because we had built rapport, he knew my case, and we were partners in my care. I was not your average patient in that I was very well read and researched and wanted to tweak my protocol to maximize results. Dr. Kolb always listened, provided his opinion (or refuted mine, if need be) and we worked together to develop the best, individualized approach for me. After a 2 1/2 year absence trying to conceive, I returned to Dr. Kolb and am happy to report that I am 26 weeks pregnant with #2. I cannot express enough my gratitude for Dr. Kolb exceptional skills and extraordinary care following one of the most important decisions of my life. He maximized my chances of getting pregnant as due to my age (44) it was hard to get a normal embryo. He truly cared and waited for the right time to do the transfer considering that my uterus lining wasn't cooperating with the process. Under Dr. Kolb's care and the positive support of his entire team, my body responded very well during the treatment. Also, my nurses Flor and Jen helped me so much and made the IVF journey a great one. Flor was also there every step of the way. I always felt that Dr. Kolb had my best interest in mind and he was the only doctor that listened to my concerns and focused on the quality of the eggs instead of only quantity. Therefore, he customized the IVF process based on my body. Dr. Kolb did all my ultrasounds and of course the retrieval and transfer. Tomorrow is my graduation day and it's bittersweet as I will miss Dr. Kolb's compassion, kindness and professionalism. Not to mention that he is very calm and funny! That was the first indicator of the quality of this outstanding fertility treatment center. The second indicator was the initial interview (including the initial seminar) by Dr. Bradford Kolb. Dr. Kolb presents the care at HRC Fertility in an easily digestible manner. He does not oversell the care, but does explain all possibilities in a clear and concise presentation. Dr. Kolb and his team honestly do care about each patient. I am here to tell you that we received care beyond our expectations from Dr. Bradford Kolb and his team. The third indicator was the care that we received during our treatment. Dr. Kolb would provide updates which were very clear and made our journey less stressful. Worst experience of my life. No communication unless I pried it out of him. Would always hand me off to his nurse who was always unorganized and scattered. Complete lack of empathy of the experience of a scared vulnerable woman doing this alone. Suggesting donor egg right off the bat. I only stayed with him because i was referred by gynecologist (who I also stopped seeing after her complete negativity of my situation Dr. Samantha Han) and I was so scared and confused. I take fault in that I didnt do my due diligence researching and exploring other fertility clinics. I just went with the first one because I had no idea what I doing. Needless to say... I had an unsuccessful round in which the Dr never called me to discuss until i called the clinic asking why no communication. The thought of HRC gives me anxiety and heart palpitations. I have ptsd when i drive by the clinic whenever Im in Pasadena. I knew there is no guarantees with IVF but at least a feeling of support or empathetic kindness with some kind of individual care after shelling thousands of dollars. Also, whenever I asked about holistic alternative care ( Acupunture, diet for egg health etc) he knew nothing or brushed it off as unsubstantiated and unnecessary. Where as other fertility clinics have direct relationships with fertility Acupuncturist and nutritionist. Everyone will have different experiences, I just know my experience was traumatizing and made me never want to go through it again dashing my hopes of becoming a mother to my own biological child. We began our journey building our family in 2016.  As an LGBT couple we were concerned about being accepted and feeling welcomed into a fertility clinic.  We did our research and shopped around.  The day we met with Dr. Kolb we knew we had found our dream team.  Not only was the location beautiful and the staff beyond friendly, but Dr. Kolb was easygoing and honest with us.  He took his time and answered all of our crazy questions/concerns.  IVF can be a brutal endeavor, we never once felt lost in the process with HRC. We got pregnant with our 1st baby with Dr. Kolb and his team.  We used my wife's egg, and I carried.It was an amazing experience.  For baby number 2 we wanted to use my egg, and we thought we'd save money trying IUI through Kaiser. (That was a mistake!) We went to numerous different doctors, some saying I couldn't get pregnant, some saying maybe I could.  After a year and a half, we still didn't get clear answers and ultimately wasted several thousands of dollars, several heartaches, and physical reactions (OHSS) to meds. Finally, after 6 failed IUIs, I was told I couldn't get pregnant for reasons they couldn't be sure of.   We knew that if anyone could get us pregnant it would be Dr Kolb. We called our amazing nurse at HRC,  Natalie (she's the best), and she gave us guidance and set us up with a consultation.  Our first meeting with Dr. Kolb and the team was so reassuring and exciting. They truly take care of you from the beginning.  After some testing,  Kolb said I am completely healthy, and should have no problem getting pregnant. We proceeded with IVF, and got pregnant on the first try!  Dr. Kolb and his team have been supportive throughout the entire process. If we have any questions, we can call at any time and get answers or reassurance from the dedicated,  knowledgable, and kindhearted nurses. The HRC team is like family. Even the lab team is great. After our journey, Dr. Kolb and the HRC team are the only fertility team we would recommend.  They kept us informed, closely monitored and cared for my wife, myself, and our precious babies. We have a beautiful perfect boy from them, and more in the oven. It is the only team I trust with our fertility, and they will definitely be the only place we go in the future! read more

Dr. Kolb, Debbie, Natalie, and the rest of his team at HRC are all so incredibly gifted and compassionate. They are true miracle workers. My husband and I had gone through IVF with another clinic four months prior, and sadly my body did not respond well to the treatments. I had been counseled after a failed IVF attempt that perhaps I just did not have that many eggs left. We were completely devastated and about to give up our dream of having a child. We had no knowledge of assisted reproduction and Dr Kolb made it easy from start to finish. I went to his introductory seminar which explained the process well. We met with him once and he explained things clearly and answered a myriad of questions without my husband and I feeling pressured. He was supportive of our choices but have us information to make the best choices. When we proceeded forward we dealt mainly with His administrative lead , Nancy who was very responsive and patient. She was awesome through the whole confusing process. We only saw dr kolb one more time for the transfer. Like any large busy clinic there were occasional times I would have liked more information but Nancy was always quick to explain and facilitate getting answers from dr kolb or the embryologist. She also offered to set up phone calls or visits to dr kolb if needed. I really like that he encourages Singleton transfers ( safe for mom and baby) and has a financial package that Allows you to transfer until successful at no extra cost of his service. There is always parking at the facility and facilities seem clean and pleasant. The nurses were great. My only suggestion is that the elevators be labelled. Especially to inform what floor reception is on for first time visitors ! read more

As a first-time egg donor, I was pretty nervous about the idea of surgery and oocyte donation. After meeting Dr. Kolb and his staff at HRC Fertility, however, I have never felt more self-assured about my decision. Dr. Kolb's doctor-patient interaction was on point - he was almost always available and never relied too heavily on his staff. Dr. Kolb gave us the gift of a lifetime. We are currently expecting a child, all thanks to Dr. Kolb. When we first arrived at HRC, we were skeptical of doing another IVF, as we had already 4 unsuccessful treatments with 2 different doctors. Both of those doctors were recommending going with egg donors. We wanted one more opinion before we preceded that route. To our surprise and much ease, Dr. Kolb gave us a different perspective. He reviewed all the medical records we brought and he offered us to try another IVF, where he suggested that he'll use different medications and dosages (actually lower than what I was receiving before and not responding well). We are so thankful to have found Dr. Kolb. He is so passionate about what he does, caring, has a great bedside manner and most importantly he is very knowledgeable and experienced. He gave us hope and confidence. We fully trusted him during the treatment cycle. We are so excited now that after our first try with him we got pregnant and will soon have a baby. We are definitely going back to him for a second baby. I would recommend him without hesitation and confidently say that both Dr. Kolb and his staff are so courteous, professional and make you feel at ease in their clinic. I've just come from my first ultrasound and we heard the heartbeat, 117 bpm, I am overjoyed! Dr Kolb is amazing. I came from Nigeria through a referral and i will gladly refer him as well. I had a AMH level of 0.42 and was told donor eggs would be my best option. Dr Kolb said we should give IVF and my eggs a try, he was aggressive with my protocol and we got the results first time!
