I can't recommend Village Birth enough. So many amazing practitioners, so much helpful information all in one place, and a great community to boot. My husband and I took several classes at Village Birth leading up the birth of our baby, and I found my amazing lactation consultant, Hideko, after taking a very informative breastfeeding class with Yvonne. Hideko was an invaluable resource to me after the baby was born and continued to be for many months afterward. There was no way I would be able to breastfeed as long as I have if it weren't for her. Separately, I worked with prenatal chiropractor Dr. Jenny Stofer as well, who is also part of the Village Birth group now. I had experienced quite a bit of discomfort in my back during my pregnancy and she always made me feel at ease, listened to my concerns, and took care of any issues I had quickly and gently. I always left my sessions with her feeling energized, supported and like my baby had more room in there! It was incredible. Village Birth is made up of such a thoughtful, supportive and kind group of individuals who are talented and passionate about their work. I went to village birth in their bundle it was well worth the money. My husband and I did our birth education classes, newborn essentials, feeding and getting ready for the fourth trimester. Thru their doula match we found an amazing postpartum doula. I also did some of their prenatal circles and will be doing their post partum circle soon. Always a fun mix of women who go there, and I know the business can't control who signs up for classes but I wish more POC women and couples went. My wife and I attended the childbirth class here, and I definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to learn more about what to expect from the childbirth process. Brighid was our course instructor, and she was super knowledgable, open and supportive to all types of relationships, birthing plans, and wasn't overly dogmatic by recommending a "one size fits all" approach to this very dynamic process. She was experienced and knowledgeable, answered our questions, gave recommendations, resources, and context, and we could not be happier with the experience. The office was quiet, clean, free from distractions, and the environment was comfortable and inviting. My wife had a few fears/concerns about being a first time mother, but after the class she's feeling much more comfortable now that she's equipped with so much context and information. We purchased the Village Birth Bump Bundle and it was worth every penny. As first time parents, we felt very overwhelmed and wanted to educate ourselves the best we could. That's exactly what the classes did for us. I felt more educated and ready after each class. My only note/suggestion would be to allow partners to attend the Preparing for the Fourth Trimester class. While I understand that birth parents only may allow for a more candid/honest conversation, there was some very important information that I would have liked my partner to hear, process and get any questions they may have had answered. Everyone was very professional and helpful. We felt so good about the courses, that when I needed some lactation assistance/guidance we went to Evonne who we met at Village Birth. read more

I highly recommend this amazing place! I took my hypnobirthing/hypnobabies class with Sara and it was wonderful. I was provided thorough information and was taught this skill by her. Now I feel fully prepared to go into my natural water birth which will happen any minute now. I also found community in these crucial times in my pregnancy. I also got chiropractic services from Dr. Jenny and she was truly wonderful. She took the time to explain what parts of my body needed alignment and why. She made me feel comfortable and helped my round ligament pain go away. I was dealing with lower abdomen pain and after the adjustment I got from her I feel much much better. I think being able to meet in person if you can manage it is really valuable and this place offers that. I am so grateful to have found Village Birth. As a new mother, I first joined in on their free community meetups, where I met some local moms in my neighborhood. More recently, I joined their Matrescence Circle, which has been such a haven in the first years of motherhood. It's truly such a special group, led with so much care and thoughfulness. Sarah is so great, as is April who facilitates the circle-- they are always so warm, welcoming, and helpful. They've offered so many great referrals-- from doulas, childcare, acupuncture, therapists and beyond. They were rude from the beginning. I came in to check out their office. The girl at the front desk had an attitude from the start. I was just trying to get information about their services since I am 7 months pregnant. She was being very quick with her responses and made me feel like I wasn't wanted there. I came here because they were well rated. Don't believe the reviews. I did and it was a big mistake. I met with Dr. Jenny and she must have talked to the girl up front because it seemed very awkward. The whole consolation I felt like I was trying make it a good visit but dr Jenny was really cold and distant. I will not be coming back and I will be telling the ladies at my lamaze class to avoid this place! read more

Village Birth was an amazing community and educational space I stumbled across during my Pregnancy and Birth. I took a couple classes there leading up to my birth which were informative and helped prepare me for the birth, and then for the baby itself - my first child! Once I had the baby I attended a number of women/mothers circles too which was monumental in helping me navigate the postpartum period. Because of Village Birth I felt supported and cared for. Sara that runs it does an amazing job of creating a safe space for moms/parents and parents to be. She was also extremely flexible in helping me work out some problems in attending some classes due to my work schedule, but she's just a very kind person that wants to help others, and build a community that helps each other too - a village. I love the classes and community Village Birth is creating. My husband and I took a few classes before our baby was born, including the Childbirth, Newborn Care and Breastfeeding. The birthing class was a breezy, energetic class taught in a way where we could absorb a lot of information, learn medical jargon and the processes of labor. I found it especially helpful that we learned about different medical interventions pre and during labor so that once we were in labor and after birth, my husband and I better understood what was happening along the way, and could consent to or decline suggestions by our medical team, and advocate for myself and baby as needed. The breastfeeding class was also super key in giving me and husband an idea of what we were in for with how to feed, feeding schedules, feeding input needs during the first days... it made us both much more prepared once baby was here. I only wish we had also taken the Postpartum course too. I think it would have positioned us better for early days with baby. I've also enjoyed the community get togethers. They have a lovely prenatal group where mothers will share stories and pregnant people get to bond. I'm looking forward to attending more of the newborn parent and family get togethers, and getting to know the VB community. All the teachers are warm, knowledgeable, non-judgmental and are fostering a wonderful space for families. read more

Village Birth was a resource for me during my first pregnancy. I took several prenatal classes (yoga, newborn care and fourth trimester) and participated in the postpartum support group and the prenatal village meet up. The teachers/doulas are amazing women and are successful in gathering and sharing critical information in a genuine and authentic way. My husband and I took three different classes here to prepare for the birth of our first baby -- a childbirth class, a baby CPR/first aid class, and a newborn care class. All were super helpful and much better than trying to learn it all from books alone! The classes are small and interactive, you have the opportunity to ask any questions you have, and we loved all of our instructors, who did a great job of distilling tons of information in a clear, non-judgmental way and making everyone feel comfortable and informed about various choices parents can make about labor and delivery. The office space is nice and inviting, too; there's comfortable seating and complimentary tea. There's also parking beneath the building and it was always free, maybe because our classes happened on nights and weekends. I was so happy to find out about a place like Village Birth...seems like pregnancy and becoming a mom can be a very isolating experience, and I think that can be especially true in a city like Los Angeles. I was able to take a 4th Trimester class with them and it was a great experience. Content-wise, the class was a little redundant from what I learned from taking different birth education courses, but still useful. They gave us worksheets to help us think through the emotional needs we would have postpartum and also they had a very useful list of items to have on-hand to deal with postpartum discomfort and pain!! Accommodation-wise, I misread my calendar and didn't realize I'd be out of town for the class date when booking the class. I didn't want to miss out, so I emailed them about this issue and Sara was sooooo accommodating. She set up a Zoom connection just for me and was quite diligent about moving the camera around to see other participants as they spoke. She also made sure I had a copy of the in-class worksheet beforehand. It was a good experience and I can't wait to participate in more community-building activities that they offer. read more

Love Village Birth! My midwife suggested I reach out when I was looking for a postpartum doula. They sent some excellent candidates right away and I ended up hiring the first doula I interviewed, Becca Roth. She's been so amazing to work with and I true caretaker and lifesaver for our family. I also went to a prenatal group, which I loved and felt so welcomed by the community. I'm sure the childbirth and Hypnobirthing classes are excellent. They have so much experience with all types of birth and have a beautiful space at Sparrows Nest, I just haven't done the classes. read more

A few years ago, I read about HypnoBirthing as a method to help have a more comfortable, natural childbirth, and I immediately knew that it was something I would want to try if I ever got pregnant. So when my husband and I started trying, one of the first things I did was to try and find classes around our community that taught HypnoBirthing, and that's when I came across Village Birth. One of the first things that attracted me to this place was the fact that they offer a wide range of classes, from newborn care to the fourth trimester, which, as a first time parent, I was interested in taking. I had an initial phone conversation with Sara, the owner of Village Birth, to talk about my birthing vision, and immediately after that my husband and I signed up for the Hypnobabies class, which is the HypnoBirthing method that Village Birth teaches. Before even starting the class (which was going to be a couple of weeks after we signed up), we received some homework to do, which consisted of 2 self-hypnosis sessions that we had to listen to every day (alternating between the two). The important part was for the mom-to-be to listen to the tapes, but the partner is always welcome to join in. One thing I noticed right away was that those tapes were extremely relaxing. So relaxing that I don't think I've been able to stay awake during them all the way to the end (and that is perfectly normal!). The in-person class span over 6 Saturdays, and each class lasted about 3 hours. We got to meet other like-minded couples, which is a definitely a pro for taking an in-person class. What we realized from the start was that Hypnobabies was not a traditional HypnoBirthing class, which usually focuses just on deep breathing, relaxation, visualization, affirmations or hypnosis scripts, and new vocabulary for birthing sensations. On top of teaching all that, Hypnobabies also focuses on actual childbirth education, such as anatomy, physiology and stages of birth, nutrition during pregnancy, options for birthing, how to prepare for postpartum and newborn care ... to name a few. So, you don't need to take any additional childbirthing classes if you take Hypnobabies. Hypnobabies does involve quite a bit of work, as the relaxation methods need to be practiced daily. And although I've had some days where it was challenging to find the time to practice, I am proud to say that I have religiously followed the suggested practice schedule, and that was before the class started, during the class, and now (which is even more important), until our baby is due. I think it's really worth the time if this will help me have the birthing I am dreaming of. I am also realistic though and know that I might have to adjust my expectations and plan as the due date approaches and the birthing is on its way. But I am comfortable with that, as I have learned all I need to know in the class in order to make an informed decision if that time comes. One of my favourite things about the class is the fact that Sara is not thinking that Hypnobabies is the only way of accomplishing your birthing vision. She is there to educate and empower you so that you can take the best decision for you and your baby. The class was very useful for my husband as well, as he learned a lot about pregnancy and childbirth, probably even more than me (as I had read a couple of books on the subject ahead of time). The class definitely taught him how to properly support me during the pregnancy and during the birth, which I think it's priceless. We both enjoyed the class at Village Birth so much that we signed up for most of the others they are offering. :) read more

I only got to attend one babywearing dance class before my maternity leave ended, but it was a lot of fun! Fun fact: I actually don't like dancing, but my baby does--also, the class is taught by one of my fave yoga instructors (Kim from One Down Dog) and I wanted to support her new class. The space is so welcoming and comfortable, it encourages just hanging out and chatting and connecting. They have tea and coffee and water and a changing table in the restroom. I knew I wanted to work with a doula but had no idea how to find one. When my partner and I were interviewing birth doulas and met Sara, we immediately knew she would be an amazing fit for us and exactly the support we'd want: knowledgeable, gentle, non-judgmental, and an overall LOVELY person to be around. We had great in-depth sessions where we talked through birth preferences where she answered all of our questions (we had a lot). There's so much to consider but she presented it a way that didn't feel overwhelming. She also showed us ways to help get me through contractions at home and allow my partner to be an active participant. While I was laboring at home she was SO helpful. She navigated the COVID-restricted hospital protocols and was a complete rock star during the actual delivery. Oh, and then she took my placenta home and made some magic pills for me (recommend this too!). We didn't get a chance to take the childbirth class through Village but wish we had! My partner and I took Village Birth's four-week childbirth education class with Alyson and we could not recommend it highly enough. It's a great mix of science and facts, tons of actionable (and demonstrated!) ideas for how to manage and prepare for labor/postpartum recovery and early childhood care, space to ask questions and consider trade-offs and decisions, and perhaps most importantly, structures and opportunities for discussion and planning about all of those things. In addition to giving you information (which is valuable, even with all of the books and websites out there) the class creates space to really deliberately explore and prepare for what your experience might look like - and give you the tools to advocate for that but also cope with things possibly not going according to plan. I have never written a Yelp review, but I feel inclined to do so because this was such a positive experience. Honestly, when I registered, I thought it was a bit pricey and already felt pretty comfortable in my knowledge about birth. Like, I had read a dozen books, what more could I learn? But I'm so glad we signed up. It was 100% worthwhile. My husband and I attended a weekend-intensive class (all day Saturday and Sunday) with Alyson. This was our first pregnancy. It was just us and two other couples, in a private home, so the environment felt intimate and welcoming. Alyson was extremely knowledgeable and guided us through different topics, but she was flexible enough to let our questions and interests drive a lot of the discussions. The information was presented in a non-judgmental manner. No agenda. No one birthing approach better than another. Honestly, I think the most important outcome for my husband and me is that it forced us to have conversations about things we both had opinions about but hadn't even thought to discuss (for example, how we felt about different birth interventions). So even if you know a great deal about birth, it may still be worth your while to attend this class because of the thought-provoking conversations and shared insights.
