I did both virtual and home visit consultations with Evonne and she was incredibly helpful to me. I was desperate for help from engorgement, latching, and concerns about whether or not my baby was receiving enough food so was able to snag a virtual appointment first. Evonne was so helpful online and was able to troubleshoot and help me remotely! It was really impressive and surprising to me just from seeing things through video, she was able to guide me through some things. That's how expert she is! When I met her in person, she was able to evaluate any issues physically and helped me be able to latch better through in-person instruction. We met Evonne when taking baby classes at Village Birth. Once baby arrived, I had a rough start with breastfeeding. After a week of many tears and frustration, I reached out to Evonne for some much needed assistance and guidance. After my first appointment, she changed the breastfeeding game for me. When my baby was first born we had breastfeeding challenges. New north took our insurance and we were able to schedule an appointment with Evonne during the LA fires. She came to our house and told us which of the bottles and pacifiers we had would be good for a latch (very few of them) and taught us positions to feed our baby in. In a later follow up appointment, she helped me with some herbs to get my milk supply more stable. We then started in office appointments with Hideko where she helped size me for a pump, taught me how to use the pump more effectively, and taught me more techniques for feeding my baby. Our baby couldn't do tummy time for weeks due to a poorly healing belly button and Hideko helped us make up for lost time giving us suggestions on props and exercises. Visiting Hideko felt like going to see an older cousin who was just a wealth of baby knowledge and gave me some time to relax knowing my baby was in good hands in those early days when I felt overwhelmed. We are so happy that we found Evonne when we did! We had meet with another LC originally, but felt like we weren't getting the help we needed and felt a bit judged by our choice to also introduce a bottle. We wanted to ensure we introduced bottles properly in a way that would not interfere with our baby also latching to the breast. Evonne had the perfect solution and helped us implement pace feeding. I had issues breastfeeding my first child - there was a lot of pain. I was so miserable. I contacted New North after unsatisfactory service from a different LC provider. I was looking for effective and responsive LCs because I needed help ASAP. Evonne is quick to respond but was unavailable to meet with me. She did have a very qualified colleague on her team, Hideko who met with us. Hideko came to our home and did a very thorough assessment and we saw improvements right away. Hideko has a very calming and friendly energy and is amazing at what she does. It is like she had this magic I can't exactly describe, but you feel it when you are around her. Hideko is quick to respond, very knowledgeable, dependable, and effective. It took a few visits and we made more progress each time. She helped us with 2 different issues. 1) My baby boy was born Nov. 2022 and even though I saw 4 different lactation consultants at the hospital none of them were as good or through as Evonne. From the first consult she educated me and my husband on how to position my baby, how to hold the boob, etc. Even my husband made a comment about how good, professional, and caring she is. She helped me with breastfeeding issues at the beginning, showed me how to pump and bottle feed. 2) We messed up and stopped bottle feeding which turned into a full blown bottle rejection. We tried for a good month every bottle under the sun, warming up the nipple, at night, different people trying to feed him and nothing worked until I went to see Evonne again. I was having issues with breastfeeding my newborn, as he had a tongue tie. I was weary of getting it cut without seeking non-surgical methods first. Evonne came highly recommended by my midwife. I was in a lot of pain and Evonne was nice enough to make time for me on a Saturday, which I was grateful for. Evonne made some adjustments with positioning the baby and I immediately felt a difference with the latch and the pain was pretty much gone. She also helped me with strengthening how I was approaching other positions and making sure that I had good posture for myself and the baby. Evonne is very knowledgeable and I really felt she saved us from seeking more invasive solutions. I also wanted to note that she works with insurance and also has a really great online booking system that makes things really simple and easy. We have taken two classes with Evonne (Early Newborn Care and Breast & Bottle Feeding) and thoroughly enjoyed both experiences. As two people who do not have a lot (any!) experience around babies - and are just a few weeks away from our due date - we thought it would be a good idea to get educated by a professional. Reading online is helpful to an extent, but it's really nice to have someone there walking you through the information and accessible for questions. Evonne's classes are really dense and informative - but also super digestible. She is really friendly and warm (even over zoom!) and made us feel more confident that we could handle being new parents. We met Evonne at her office specifically for her expertise in bottle refusal. I had been exclusively nursing my son for 5 months and was due to return to work in a few weeks and had no luck getting him to take a bottle. Evonne assessed my son, had us practice using the bottle with him, taught us some oral exercises and stretches, and gave us specific tips on how to support bottle feeding that was tailored to his needs. Evonne is an amazing resource for your little one and mama. She was referred by our doula when we first brought home baby and notice he was having a hard time feeding. I found Evonne through classes I took at LOOM pre-baby. Five days after baby came, I sent Evonne a very desperate email at 2am when I was ready to throw in the towel. Breastfeeding was incredibly painful for me and just too complicated. Pumping was painful due to sore, cracked nipples. I was engorged, tired, overwhelmed. Nothing was working, but I wanted to persevere. She answered me right away and I've had four sessions with her. Two via ZOOM (COVID!) and two in person (all necessary precautions taken). She identified some obstacles with my son that we have been addressing (tightness, shallow latch) and gave us exercises to do with him. She wrote up a report that my chiropractor has been working off. She showed me simpler positions (game changing) and helped me get the right flange size for my pump (who knew the standard sizes weren't right for everyone?!). All of this has helped immensely. We were a c-section preterm birth with a former hospital-assigned LC whose advice led to our baby's weight gain stopping and the baby going down in percentiles. Under Evonne, our baby rose in percentiles. I've gone from a punishing triple feeding regimen to exclusively breast feeding, something I never thought I'd get to. Evonne came recommended by my postpartum doula and I wish I was recommended to her with my first born. He had a tongue and lip tie, which were released at one month old. I was told to bottle feed him for the two weeks during recovery and he never went back to breastfeeding, as he developed a bottle preference. This was the beginning of me pumping exclusively for 13 months. Currently, with an active toddler and a newborn, I didn't think exclusively pumping would be something I could sustain long term, but my breastfeeding relationship with my newborn was exhibiting similar patterns as my first: nursing constantly but baby never seeming to be satisfied, falling asleep at the breast, slow weight gain, painful nipples during feedings, etc. I was told by three different pediatricians that she did not have a tongue tie and intervention wasn't needed, but supplementing with either formula or pumped breast milk was necessary. During my initial assessment with Evonne, I discovered my newborn was nursing inefficiently, only getting about 1/2 oz. during a feeding. She also informed that she did in fact have a tongue tie. I scheduled an appointment with a pediatric ENT who confirmed the tongue tie and we had it released. Immediately following, feedings weren't painful and my breastfeeding schedule wasn't so rigorous. Prior to the procedure, I was constantly nursing plus constantly pumping to sustain my supply, on top of everything else a parent with a toddler and newborn during a pandemic is doing, which meant very broken and very little sleep. During my follow up consult with Evonne, my baby nursed on just one side and was able to get almost five times more milk than during the prior assessment. She now feeds without any pain and the stretches between nursing is a lot longer. Weight gain has also increased significantly, going from a weight percentile in the the low teens to a percentile in the high forties. I also don't have to pump as much or supplement with bottle feedings after nursing. Breastfeeding is looking a lot more sustainable for us and I highly, highly recommend Evonne to new and experienced mothers. The exercises, positioning, and practices Evonne recommended to us have been so helpful. She is very thorough, experienced, and generous with her time and knowledge. My doula is also very impressed with Evonne and would recommend her to any future client. read more

I reached out to Evonne after my 3 month old son had his tongue tie and lip tie revised. I had a number of breastfeeding challenges with my biggest issue being recurrent plugged ducts. It was so painful and frustrating that I was very close to giving up many times. After his procedure, I got another case of stubborn plugged ducts. Because of COVID, I did a couple of virtual visits with another lactation consultant but it just wasn't as helpful. I needed hands on help and this is where Evonne stepped in to save the day! She came to my house within days notice and took all safety precautions to make me and my family feel safe. She did a very detailed evaluation of my son examining his mouth and body and observed a feed to assess what we needed to work on. She demonstrated a set of exercises to do with him to strengthen his suck and relieve tension in his body. She had me video record her doing the exercises with my son and try them myself before she left so that I would feel comfortable doing them on my own. She also helped me position my son better so that he could get a deeper latch. The exercises were so helpful! When I think about the early days of parenthood, I think of Evonne and how she calmly helped to save breast feeding for our family - and also give me comfort and confidence in the process. We call her "Saint Evonne" in our house. She is a wonderfully warm, kind, competent and skillful person. When our daughter was about 2 weeks old, she had lost too much weight and we had to supplement with formula in a bottle. She then refused to breastfeed, screaming at the top of her lungs, arching her back, and making it clear to me that we had about 24-48 hours to turn things around, if it was even possible. Evonne came into our chaotic house with an air of calm and caring. She asked about our goals with breastfeeding and helped us to meet them. After giving a quick exam, she gave us clear, step-by-step, replicable instructions. Within an hour, our daughter was back on the breast and within 2 days, we were better than we had been before the bottle was introduced. We made it breastfeeding for 9 months (our goal). Before Evonne, we had been to other breastfeeding consultants and, like clockwork, everything would work perfectly in their offices - the pillow was right, the baby would latch, weight was gained. Being a FT mom can be challenging especially during a global pandemic. Being a FT mom who EBF can be even more challenging. I have had an ongoing plugged duct for 3 weeks. I would get it it would go away and then come back on the same breast but just somewhere else. I had so many questions/concerns/worries you name it. I'm not gonna lie I contacted quite a few people. Posted on FB groups, but Evonne was the ONLY one who got to me with my concerns and help me feel a little more at ease on what's going on. I've spent day's getting little sleep because I would sleep. Feeling so full and tender trying to rub out what I felt like a knot not knowing If it'll be a bigger plugged duct or eventually turned into mastitis.
