Appears that Yelp is mostly for people to "yell" about poor service from various businesses. So I wanted to post something positive - in this case for CableOne. I am a"lite" Internet user which would explain why for the last number of years I have been on CableOne's Lite plan (15/1Mbps and 50GB). Until Sept 2016 I didn't even realize I had limited data. But a bit of binge viewing on Netflix then put over at 59GB. I received the email from CableOne informing of their policy which I confirmed in the service agreement. Well, the next month do to some Windows upgrades I edged over to 51GB. Again got the email explaining the 3 strikes and you're out policy. So now in March 2017 I find myself staring down strike three with 10GB left for the next 15 days again do to Windows 10 upgrades ( I do tech support for friends, family, acquaintances). I contacted CableOne stating my case that these were anomalies and that my historical usage is south of 50GB. Getting bumped up to the 100/3Mbps/300GB plan was more speed and data then I needed and the $15 per month increase was hard to justify. After receiving no slack I started discussions with CenturyLink. That evolved into a real headache. My simple question to them is what would be the monthly cost after the 12 month teaser price of $29.95/month. I got three different responses. My response to a request to talk to a manager was "... they are in a meeting and can't talk... I will pass on your number and you will be called". Two days later no call - no surprise. After reading peoples comments here regarding CenturyLink I decided to save myself the potential headache and stick with CableOne. In one last try an email was sent to CableOne to verify my options. The next day a canned reply instructing me to call in for assistance was in my inbox. This is my one complaint - if I had wanted to talk to someone I would have called in the first place. I succumbed and called the number in the email. As is typical with my calls to CableOne support I was talking with a real person (Kathy) in short order. As I was delivering my by now well versed speech Kathy interrupted and said I was "over thinking" the situation. I had to laugh and tell her I am prone to doing that. She said that if it appears that I will be exceeding 50GB before the billing period is over call in and switch to the next plan. Likewise if it appears I will be at the 50GB or less amount in a period call in and downgrade to that plan. Kathy says CableOne likes subscribers to be "active" and has no qualms with this switching plans routine. For me this sounds like a workable solution. Plus Kathy made my day with her "over thinking" comment. Yes, I would still prefer a plan offered with a data limit somewhere between 50 and 300GB but the CableOne marketers obviously have reasons otherwise. So overall I would recommend CableOne over CenturyLink. BTW before signing on with CableOne some 5+ years ago I was a Quest/CenturyLink customer who discovered their unpublished game of having to make an annual call to "customer retention" to beg for a promo renewal price. In general I find CenturyLink's marketing scheme far less palatable than CableOne's plus I have had decent support when needed and very few no service interruptions with them. read more

Best in the business Period! Century Link promises and promises and promises and then never delivers. I have been a customer of Cable One for over 10 years. I have never had a problem with billing, service being down for more than an hour, going over the data guideline or anything else. The people that are trashing Cable One about the data probably have never asked Cable One if there was a solution. They do have suggestions to help you lower the data. With all the devices and all of the network traffic(also known as family on the net) in my house we probably use 8-10hrs of net use combined a day. Once we asked Cable One about how to manage the data, our usage has gone up and the data used has gone down. The one tip I didn't know was to change Netflix from Ultra HD to standard HD. That alone lowered my usage by 7+ gigabits and hour. Data issue solved. My wife streams Pandora 8+hrs a day. No data issues. Is cable one a bit more expensive...yes. I also have never paid for a service call. Century Link(and I verified with a family member that this is still the case) would check the outside for free, but charge ) $100 to walk in the front door. They (Century Link) would never come check a modem out. They would just send a new one. When I had a slow speed issue, Cable One sent a tech out FOR FREE, checked all the lines from the junction and through my house FOR FREE, installed a test modem FOR FREE, and then showed me the issue was my modem. THEN, they offered to let me have a modem at no charge if I were to return it within a month. The technician said that he wanted me to have good internet until I could get a newer modem of my own!!! All of this was done FOR FREE!!! So, yes, I pay a little more that $50 a month for service, but the customer service is well worth a bit more considering the technician or Cable One COULD HAVE charge several hundred dollars to do what they did for me. I asked the man that did the service call how much cable one spends on each service call and he told me that to just park his truck in front of my house it costs Cable one $75-100 no matter what the job is. So they could have charged me at least $100 to tell me my modem was bad. Century Link just sent me a modem and told me to hook it up my self. Cable One is well worth the money that you will spend on their internet. Good job Cable one read more

I've been a customer of Cable One for well over a decade and literally have never had a problem with their service (well, I mean no more than the rare outage that any company will have). I think it's funny how many people complain about the data cap and say they charge overages. That's actually not true; they don't charge overage fees. They give you 3 months of going over your cap in a row before bumping you up to the higher plan. That gives you several months to evaluate your usage patterns and decide whether to switch to CenturyLink or not. Here are your options in Boise: Cable One gives you fast service (100Mbps+) with a bandwidth cap: 300GB but you can pay for higher tier if so desired. or CenturyLink gives you much slower service (12Mbps in most areas, with 40Mbps the max if you're lucky) with no cap. This may be plenty of speed for you, but depends on the person. It's also lower price. It's your choice. Just because you made the wrong choice for your personal needs doesn't mean the company you went with is bad. They make this stuff very clear up front and they don't force you to upgrade without giving you very clear notification and months to decide. As for customer service, I've been a customer of both companies, and I've even worked for CenturyLink, and I can say hands down Cable One has the best *average* service. I'd say 98% of the reps are good, and 2% are having a bad day. That's a good average. I consistently get speeds 10% faster than advertised, even during peak hours. My complaints are: (1) There's no option for faster upload speeds. If I could pay extra to increase upload speed alone (for broadcasting on YouTube/Twitch) I would do it. It's only an option if you pay for the higher download speed, which is overkill for most people. (2) If you happen to need higher tiers of bandwidth or speed, the price ramps up like crazy. Especially if you want the Gigabit service, it's like buying a decent used car every year. I wish they had more gradual tiers available for a wider variety of usage scenarios (example: high cap / low speed). read more

I live in Pocatello Idaho, but this is my experience: I have been a customer for over 20+ years Sparklight formally CableOne. I am a Jazz fan. Well Last Saturday during the Jazz Knicks game was not showing (never missed a game in the past) well I called Customer Service and was on hold for over 30 minutes. well, the guy finally answered, and I asked him why I was not seeing it. He said I do not know and let me investigate. He put me on hold for another 20 minutes and when he came back, he said the game was blacked out and there was nothing that he could do about it. I checked with AT&T they said I was in the coverage area and the game should not have been blacked out. So, Friday when I turned on the TV wanting to see the Jazz vs Suns game I saw poker instead, So I called in put on hold for over 25 minutes. When some lady answered the phone I asked her the same question, she put me on hold again and said she would investigate it. She came back and said it was blacked out by mistake and they were "working on it" well the game never came on. The next night when I turned on to watch the Blazers I saw "fighting" instead. I called in again put on hold for 30 minutes until the guy answered. He said I see you have called in 2 previous times on this, and this is not a technical issue and he basically hung up on me. I have been a customer for over 20 years and never had this issue before. So, I got on their TV programming Chat this morning and asked a "Lupe" why the games were being blacked out. He said it was an issue with AT&T sports net. I said why have I never had this issue 20+ previous years before and asked him why his competitors are able to broadcast without any issues. He blew me off. I am a completely frustrated right now. Well, my friends are not missing the games on FUBO, so I guess it is time to say good riddance to Sparklight!!! read more

Terrible service, slow speeds, and incredibly low data caps that are meant to force you to keep paying for cable television from Cable One. This company is pure garbage and only exists because there isn't any competition. I will be filing a complaint with the FCC about their harmful and monopolistic practices and strongly encourage everyone to do the same. consumercomplaints.fcc.g... . If you stream any video (netflix, amazon, hulu, youtube, etc), have a modern video game console or use the internet like a normal person in the year 2016 you will go over the data cap and will be forced into a higher plan that is much more expensive than their already pricey awful plans. Just cancel your service and go with the barely slower yet much more reliable and less abusive CenturyLink. Cable One might be the worst company in Boise. STEER CLEAR AT ALL COSTS. If they had any true competition at all they would be out of business. Do you think it's a coincidence that the only negative reviews they have responded to were the ones that filed detailed complaints with the FCC? At this point the internet should be a public utility, you could get faster and cheaper internet in some tiny village in Romania. Cable One is an embarrassment and they should be put out of business, but they're lucky enough to have what basically amounts to a monopoly. UPDATE: After receiving my FCC complaint they actually called and harassed my parents who have their own separate Cable One account. They completely ignored the contact information on the FCC complaint form and decided to call and harass my mother about her service. The complaint form very clearly stated that it was concerning my own account as a former customer. Disgusting behavior to say the least. read more

I'm extremely frustrated with Sparklight as my internet provider. Over the past year and a half, they've raised my rates multiple times--but what's even more frustrating is the lack of consistent communication about those increases. In the past, I at least received an email notice. This time? Nothing. I only found out by digging through the fine print of my billing statement. If Sparklight is going to change how they notify customers, fine--but be upfront about it. Don't switch from email alerts to buried line items on a bill and pretend it's the same. It feels deceptive--like they're trying to slip changes past customers without them noticing. To make things worse, when I tried to chat with a support rep to ask questions, I was logged out of both my account and the chat--three times. Every attempt to reconnect has been met with the same result: disconnect and silence. It honestly feels like they're avoiding having the conversation. And let's not forget the modem rental fee hike. It went up, but I'm still using the same outdated equipment I've had since day one. Nothing's changed--except the amount they charge me each month. After nearly five years as a customer, I'm done. Sparklight clearly sees me as just a number on their balance sheet. I'll be switching providers--hopefully to a company that values clear communication, fair pricing, and basic customer respect. Unless you enjoy inconsistent notices, surprise price hikes, and being ignored when you ask questions, I'd strongly advise staying away. read more

This review is based on the Internet and Phone services only. I have not been able to test TV service yet. Pros: -Great speeds for the cost ($50/mo for 50mb/s 'net speed, though the uprate is mediocre) -no real issue with phone service except what's shown below -mostly reliable Cons: -Internet has a DATA CAP. They provide you all this speed, then yell at you when you use that speed "too much", and have a clause in their AUP about potential severance of service if you go over. Very easy to go over if you download things from i.e. Steam and watch netflix/hulu/youtube. -Their suggestions for keeping data use down is to use the low-quality video streams instead. Yeah, I ordered and am paying for high-speed internet to get the media experience I got on a 1.5mb/s DSL connection 8 years ago. You have to be kidding. -EVERYTHING goes through the router. Internet service goes down? Goodbye phone. Hope your cell gets good signal. -The modem provided seems to have awful wi-fi signal quality even in the same room. HOWEVER: This may be due to living in a fairly small apartment community where there are a LOT of wireless modems operating so it may be a wi-fi channel congestion issue instead. -Again, the data cap issue.Even Comcast is (supposedly) dropping the data cap with their TWC merger. read more

Absolutely horrible service. I have now had Cable One's internet twice and I have never been more displeased with any service. The first time I had their internet, I did it by choice. They boast how superior it is and how great it works... Wrong. We lost connection up words of 10 times a week and had to call multiple ones over the span of months. Each time they can back with a "solution" that never worked. It was always slow and hardly ever performed like I was told it would. We got rid of it and moved to another carrier. Unfortunately we recently moved to a location where the only internet service available is Cable One. I was optimistic going in but now I'm having the same problems. Upload and download speed constantly drops, making streaming, playing games and doing anything on the internet painful and inconsistent. People at other side of the house often lose connection and it takes excruciatingly long amounts of time to download the smallest apps. I do not recommend this to anyone who can choose differently. Our review is narrow, based on unique needs arising from owning homes in Eagle, ID and out-of-state. CableOne has proven effective and efficient at allowing service disconnects when we leave Idaho for extended absences (in practice, longer than two weeks, every month or two). Billing staff have proven able to offer same-day or next-day connections or disconnections. Over the last 15 months we have saved 40% of our base charge. Staff are uniformly professional, friendly, and local. A spot check shows billing, complicated by partial months and credit balances, is accurate. Auto-pay is seamless through all the disconnects. As an ISP CableOne has proven dependable and reasonably fast. I'm connected at this moment at 115 MBPS, and we're generally over 75 MBPS. Their 300 gig soft-cap prevents a five star rating. Their own data-use estimator values video streaming at 1.07 gig/hr for HD, and SD at 0.21 gig/hr, as contrasted to Netflix's estimates of 3 gig and 1 gig. Not sure where CableOne came up with their data use values. read more

We've been having Internet and landline phone issues for too long. After the FIRST tech came out, we bought a new phone, but still had issues. Turns out the techs that came out the SECOND time found the problems. I think it's because they actually checked all the connections, modem, etc. They were quick, courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. Jeff Rivera and Anthony should be commended for such awesome service. They are the type of employees you'd want representing your company. I use my landline with my employer and when it stopped working, my employer requested proof of the issue. ( It wouldn't have gone that far ) if we had Jeff and Anthony the FIRST time. I don't think we would have had to buy a new phone system either. So the one star is a FIVE STAR now. It's hard to get actual customer service these days; let alone people that actually like their job. Thanks for having employees like Jeff and Anthony. New to Meridian. Read multiple cable provider reviews and decided to give CableOne a try. Went with current $25/mo, 100 Mb speed, 300GB data plan. Technician arrived on time. He looked sharp and was knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Had me up and running with a rented, brand-new CableOne Arris modem in about 15 minutes. So far my service has been as advertised. I put my own router in front of the Cable One modem after looking at their online help guide. This took about 1 minute, including looking up the process on the on-line help guide (FAQ). Works flawlessly and with 8 connected devices and encryption overhead I get between 15Mb - 35Mb at the device measured. Nothing to complain about at this time. Keeping this rating to 3-stars because I haven't tested the billing and payment process yet nor have I had to call for technical assistance or service. No outages at all since connecting (20 Sep). read more

I purchased cable internet from this company. They had no problem hooking that up as a technician came to the house and activated an outlet. After trying YOUTUBE-TV for a few weeks and being dissatisfied, I decided to go back to cable. I called Sparklight to get hooked up and they informed me that they were not doing new installations due to COVID. No self install options, no options. They have the monopoly on cable TV and have just decided to provide no option. Clearly, they are not concerned about losing market share to a competitor. Every other business has figured out a COVID protocol to make it work but Sparklight clearly does care. So I did check with Dish and Direct TV. Both were able to figure out how to provide service and install today! I guess I was wrong, they will lose market share. Hopefully they will wake up and figure it out. I really do not care because I have moved on. read more

I had another provider at my former address and decided to try Sparklight because of the great price for 6 months. The process was so muchj easier than Century Link and they have an office in Boise with live people answering the phone that speak English clearly. I had to change my appointment time and it was so so easy. The installer Justin was amazing about explaining how and what I needed to do to connect once I received the keys to my new place in 3 days. He checked all the wiring to be sure it was going to work. I was ready to leave and my car wouldn't start and WOWZER Justin had a emergency charger with him and went the extra extra mile and started my car. I will stay with Sparklight forever. I had the box plugged in and internet working on all 3 computers in 10 minutes. Thanks to Justin's clear instructions. read more

Data caps are absurd with the speeds they are offering. They may have been okay 5 years ago, but in today's age of connected devices a 300GB data cap can be eaten in a couple of days. Buy an xbox one, get it home connect it and have it patch, there is 5GB immediately. Buy 2-3 games digitally, there is over half your cap gone. Now have a household that has an xbox one, a PS4's, AppleTV, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, and you are easily hitting 500GB a month without doing anything but using your consoles and watching a bit of TV. Speeds are good, have no complaints about the customer service, but the data caps need to change, especially if they are bringing 1GB data speeds to their service. Offer an unlimited data option and the dissatisfaction of this customer pretty much goes away. read more

I currently have a bill sky high because their service is always horrible! When you schedule an appointment for someone to come out to check it, they tell you it will be at anytime between such and such times which is basically all day so not only do they charge a bunch for crappy service but you have to miss work too and wait on their technician to change the times on you like three times. Horrible! And then you complain and they give you a crappy loyal customer credit for 6 months of $10 when I have been paying over a hundred dollars for crap that I can't use and then to top it all off they charge late fees! I had to cancel three times on my technician because I could get fired for him changing my times. Just plain rude and hortible! read more

I cancelled our business account on Nov 28th and have it documented in email to the person that I was working with. He did not cancel our account and so I called back in today and to my surprise I got the same person and questioned him about it and all he said is that he would back date it to then. I said that is fine but I wanted it documented in an email to me. He refused to do so. I requested to talk to his supervisor and he came back on the line and said that he was busy so I said that I would wait. He refused to let me wait and sent me to a voice mail. Any business not willing to document what they do in writing is one that I would RUN from. PLEASE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! There are better options for better prices! read more

I just wanted to say, as a new customer I am very happy with my Internet provided by Sparklight. I had an issue where I couldn't get any kind of internet. Sparklight was quick to respond and send out an experienced tech (Pat) to diagnose and fix the problem. A broken Coax line and node junction box needed repair and he fixed it. Thank you to the service team at Sparklight, Ashley J and Melanie, and the local dispatch office team (Supervisor & Pat) for making this a great experience. Things are going to happen and it's nice to know that Sparklight takes their customers seriously and will do whatever it takes to get their internet back up and running.
