    Breakfast Burrito
    Jenna W.

Great local diner with delicious food and community feel! Came here on a Sunday morning at 10am and while it was busy, we got a table right away. The atmosphere is casual and rustic with wooden chairs and tables. Menu is full of classic breakfast favorites, along with gyro flavor options of burritos and omlettes. I ordered the Breakfast Burrito and loved it! It was packed with protein between the crispy bacon, sausage chunks, and cheesy eggs. Also inside the burrito is green pepper, caramelized onions, and crispy home fries. On the side they even give you salsa and sour cream for additional flavor. It was extremely filling and delicious! All for only $11 too. I'll definitely be coming back.

Sparkie's has the absolute best breakfast sandwich! We always have a great experience here and there's never a long wait. Servers are friendly and food is consistently satisfying.

Nice little breakfast establishment. Had to wait a few minutes for a table. Our waitress was great; refills and checking on us. The Chorizo scramble was so tasty and large with eggs on bottom, home fries then Chorizo on top. If you're looking for a good breakfast give Sparkie's a try.

Love the servers here-- great personalities and super welcoming to all. Basic diner decor is fine. The food is just ok. Leftover gyros from next door Mike & Tony's (co-owned) and a shakshuka with as much flavor as Campbell's tomato soup. But ok if you're just looking for a diner breakfast.

Sunday mornings are busy- if you're in a hurry I would avoid this place. If you have time to kill, then this is a great little spot. The food was good & the servers were all very nice. But the kitchen was backed up and extremely slow. We ordered immediately when we sat down and it took an hour to get our food. So again, if you're in a hurry, this is not the spot on a Sunday. Breakfast Burritos were good, Lattes were excellent, our only complaints were the slow kitchen, the French toast was soggy bread and orange juice was pretty terrible. That seems like a harsh review but ultimately it was a good experience. The coffee, burritos & kind servers made up for the other stuff. Would definitely go again!

Wanted to give this new breakfast spot in the area a try one Sunday. Overall the experience was good! Our waitress was friendly, but was unfamiliar with some of the menu, possibly due to the newness of the restaurant. Something interesting about this place was that they serve alcohol due to being associated with the pizza place next door. So, we tried two of the Irish Coffees and they were great! Food was also tasty - tried the Sparkie's Omlette and the Spinach and Feta scramble Prices were fair, but slightly above average. The inside is quaint but we got a table almost immediatly.

Checked out Sparkie's for the first time this weekend. First off, if you're thinking about the physical dump that was the former Tom's Diner, you will be pleasantly surprised by the total interior makeover. The outside still isn't much to look at, but the shady, worn-out diner look inside is gone. It was cozy, comfortable, and all of the staff we encountered were very pleasant and friendly. We had the Gmak Breakfast and the Original Breakfast. Gmak feta scrambled eggs were absolutely delicious--fluffy, buttery, with lots of grated feta. The gyro meat was also really good. Portions on both were very generous. The home fries, unfortunately, were truly awful--they tasted of old griddle grease and were undercooked, some of them literally crunchy-raw. Next time (and yes, I'll go back, because the rest of my food was very good) I will order the shredded hash browns instead. My husband's original breakfast had fluffy scrambled eggs, tasty sausage links (that needed to be hotter--maybe they were precooked, sitting on the griddle?), thick cut wheat toast, and crispy hash browns (that were way better than my raw home fries). Portions, again, were generous. Quality of the ingredients was clearly good, service was super quick, coffee was solid (there's an extensive coffee and brunch cocktail menu) and we will try again.

Service was great even though it was a packed Sunday morning, Sangria and Latte were a perfect combo for a brisk Sunday morning! Grabbed the Breakfast Burrito w/ B.Y.O.O (Build your own omelet) Outdoor seating is a vibe!

Phenomenal!!!! This place has hit a home run. What a beautiful replacement to Tom's Diner. Fresh delicious gyro meat sliced right off the spit. Large fluffy pancakes, buttery flavorful potatoes, rich dark coffee... what more could you want? Great ambiance. Great service. Great experience. This will be my new hangover helper from now on...

The Speckled Egg provided the upscale and elevated breakfast, that was a nice contrast to the rustic and local breakfast we had the next day. Our waitress was friendly and professional. After some deliberation, I went with a bowl that included eggs, chicken sausage, sweet potatoes and a nice garnish of dill. The dill surprisingly elevated the whole dish. My wife enjoyed an omelette. Coffee was also quite good! Nice start to a day of sightseeing! (The restaurant staff gave great advice about the nearby tourist attractions)

He was courteous, well spoken and friendly. We sat there for about 10-12 minutes. No one approached the table. We looked over to what appeared to be a bar area and we saw two servers standing there talking and showing each other their phones. My wife said, "With our luck, one of those two is our server." Sure enough, when they were finally done talking, one came over to our table....no smile and a big audible sigh. She asked what we wanted to drink, we gave our order and she returned with our beverages. After another 10 minute wait she came back to take our order. When asked about a certain dish, came another big sigh, eye roll and and a rote description of said dish. The food arrived and one of the orders was wrong. Another wait to get her attention. We asked for the item to be redone as we had ordered it. And she even asked how we wanted it! You got it...another eye roll and a big sigh. At least she was well oxygenated! The dish came back with the very same results. On that issue we gave up. Then came the wait for the check. Once again the two servers were chatting, no heads turned to check on their tables. My son went over to get the check. When the check arrived, it was attitude city. She accused us of picking on her because she was only a server. It's obviously how she saw herself. We then asked for the manager who was quick to side with the server. She said that nothing seemed to satisfy us and that we had a problem. IN SHARP CONTRAST. I have been to the Speckled Egg on the South Side many times. From the Host/Hostess to the servers to the bus staff, everyone had a smile, chatted with their customers, laughed and it was always a great experience. The manager came over since he recognized me from being there many times and we chatted for a minute. We are talking Night and Day. Completely two different experiences from server to management styles. To me there is only one Speckled Egg and one complete waste of time (Downtown).

The cool vibe restaurant is tucked away up a short flight of stairs on Filbert Street. It gives the place a cozy, hideaway feel with brick walls and murals. But the star of the show for me is the Shakshouka. I have gotten it the last 2 times I went. You also have to try their Dirty Chai. My only critique is the hostess at the front. She appeared overwhelmed by her role and was not warm. We were actually told by the waiters that "she is serious about her list". Which would be great if she managed it effectively. When I brought concerns that we had been pushed down the list 3 times for other parties. She responded "well, how do you know that" to which I responded "we watched you take their names down after ours and sit them before us". Her response was to shoo me off and tell me to go find a table myself; to which I did. But what a poor way to manage your stress, responsibility, and consumers. On the bright side my waiter/waitress was awesome per usual.
