It is like the dental office I grew up with. I chose to see Dr Collins for my intake visit. I've been to many dental offices over the years but this place did the most thorough exam. She even took digital photos of my teeth in case I ever needed restoration. After my initial exam, I had Dr Collins do my filling. Again the filling work was thorough. I felt like she took her time. She gave me the most painless injection I've ever had and I've had many cavities filled. However, I started experiencing hot and cold sensitivity after my filling so a month after I went back in to have her adjust my bite and that solved the problem for me. And just a couple days ago I went back for my first cleaning with them. My cleaning was done by Mackenzie and it was the most gentle cleaning while still thoroughly removing all my coffee and tea stains. Instead of the more abrasive devices used at other offices she used a water pik. Loved it! I'm going to ask for her for my future cleanings. Even if I move farther I would drive back to this area for this office.

I've been going to see Dr Yen since she opened the office, and I'm really happy that I made the switch! First of all, Dr Yen is the sweetest person and always makes me feel like a dear friend when I visit. Secondly, the office is absolutely beautiful and they really try to make your visit a positive experience. When I filled out my initial application they ask what types of shows and music I like. Every time I visit, a playlist from my favorite band is already playing in the exam room which is a great touch. You can also watch Netflix shows during your exam. But onto the important stuff - the dental work! I really appreciate that Dr Yen, even with all of her fancy equipment and new-construction office, is not a pushy money grabbing dentist. The skeptical side of you asks: "Is that even possible?" Yes. First off, the interior is very clean and modern looking. You also are given a mug for Keurig coffee while you wait. During the actual cleaning, the dental hygienists and Dr. Yen are very patient-oriented - and this is based on my experiences with dental personnel in the past - in that they will make sure you are comfortable amidst the whole process. They will ask, for example, for you to raise your left hand if you are feeling any sort of discomfort, as well as will tap your chin when they want you to close/open wider your mouth. Another [notable] difference with Union Street Dental is that during your specific visit your room will have speakers busting music out of them. What kind of music, you ask? Music preferences derived from the initial questionnaire you filled out, that is! This means that essentially every time I am at Union Street Dental my music preferences (apparently stuck in the early 2000s) of Neyo, Jason Derulo, and Usher will be graciously welcoming my presence! Following my first visit at Union Street Dental, I was given a complementary Soniccare electronic toothbrush. Yup. But what takes the cake is that during the cleaning, your room is equipped with a private TV above you with Netflix - yes, that's right, you can Netflix and Chill while your teeth are being cleaned (a different kind of Netflix and Chill). Do be mindful, however, to not watch anything comical: I remembered my last visit I was watching Bojack Horseman and ultimately ended up bursting in laughter while my teeth were being deep cleaned. There was a lack of clear communication and accountability regarding next steps or potential corrections. The financial aspect has also been frustrating. I paid for treatment in full at the beginning, yet I have continued to receive requests for additional payments with inconsistent amounts and no clear explanation. This has felt disorganized and unprofessional. In addition, I was never provided with retainers at the completion of treatment, which is a standard and essential part of Invisalign care. Because of this and the unresolved issues with my results, I ultimately had to transfer my care to another provider, pay a transfer fee, and complete treatment elsewhere at additional cost. Overall, this was a frustrating experience marked by poor communication, lack of follow-through, and unexpected financial issues. I had a broken tooth, so came in to get it repaired. They were able to get me in super quickly, and the support staff were communicative and friendly. The dental hygienists were great - very friendly, quick. The dentist was nice enough, but I returned to get it fixed (after the evaluation), and had such an awful experience. I've never had such an unpleasant, uncomfortable experience, with little to no information being communicated. I left, vowing never to return but unfortunately this tooth began to hurt (which never hurt when it was broken), sensitive, and completely unable to bite down. I returned for repair and was told that sometimes this happens. Again, this has never happened to me. They fixed it I suppose. It is still more sensitive than any other teeth but I will never be back here. Unfortunate, because staff were nice and this is located near to me. Other offices have a long wait to get in, or are not taking new patients and I guess I should've known when they could get me in right away!

To be fair, my anti-dental stand is rooted in trauma, pun intended, but there was no ego at Fresh Smile, just a genuine desire to help their patients and do good work. Go here, folks. Especially if you have any fears. I like that they still mask at this office. I got Covid in late 2025 and it was one of my worst experiences, so it felt good that this place is still minimizing transmission of all respiratory bugs through PPE and lots of HEPA air filtration. I felt safe going here which for me, is rare. I have NEVER had a dental workup like this. My first clue were the intake questions. I usually hate filling those forms, but these questions were intelligent and caring. Then, Dr. Prakash and Tula gathered extensive data on my mouth. X-ray equipment was top of the line and thorough, and the office has tools which created a 3d scan of my bite. This built a computer model of my teeth that can be used for appliance formation or to reference future changes. Cutting edge stuff. Although the past 5 years somewhat ravaged my mouth, I feel confident that this team will get me back to the best dental health I can achieve. The office is easily accessible on Capitol Hill. There is dedicated parking. Costs were reasonable, and Dr. Prakash showed a willingness to work with my finances which was great. If you need to find a kind, technically proficient, up to date dental office, you can't do better than Fresh Smile.

But when you make your appointment 6 months out, it's hard to remember the date. Whenever you do make it to your appointment, they're not sure exactly how much to charge you. So they will send you a bill 6 months later with the balance that you've had with late fees. Whenever you go to pay the bill, their website doesn't work. Whenever you go to pay the bill when their website is working, you have to know your account number, you have to know the statement number. You also have to know the exact dollar amount. The care they provide isn't the issue. It's 100% administrative, I just feel like other places are the total package. I'm moving on to a different provider. Edit. My account and my partners account were both setup with the same number, my number. Everytime they had an appointment I would get notifications. I opted out of notifications after constantly getting notifications about their appointments. Not realizing that it also opted my account out as well. It's interesting that I opted out of notifications but still received text messages telling me I had a past due balance? I was told they were different text notification systems.
