I had a very pleasant experience for my first visit to Smiles on Madison. I had left my previous dentist because I'd had several awkward interactions with staff that made me feel as though they desperately needed some diversity and inclusion training. I did some light research and asked around for recommendations and I'd heard several wonderful things about Dr Kim's office. I waited almost 7 months for my first appointment at Smiles on Madison, but I'm glad I did. Front Desk Agents were welcoming. The dental assistant was so friendly and warm and made me feel at home right away. Dr. Kim was very professional and though my time with him was short, I've had enough experiences with dentists to know that he was very thorough. I was recommended to go to Dr. Kim from a close friend of mine and I had an extremely pleasant experience at Smiles On Madison! I have not had the best experience with dentists in my early years, so I absolutely dread going for even check-ups. I saw something that looked like a cavity and I was super nervous to go get it checked, but also wanted to get rid of it before I would require a bigger procedure, so went in for my annual check-up + potential cavity fill. I especially do not enjoy first patient visits, because the initial check-up took TWO hours at another dental office and it got me exhausted. But to my surprise, my initial x-rays and checks were finished within one hour (probably less). And even better, what I thought was cavity was just staining from a chipped filling and I was told that I didn't need to worry about it unless it was really bothering me. At Smiles on Madison Lyndsy greets you (by name) when you arrive and will even remember information you've shared at your next visit. Amy the hygienist is fantastic and knowledgeable. Dr. Hamberg is sensitive to your needs, constantly checking in and when delivering "tough" news will make sure you understand all you need to know about how to get your mouth in a healthy state. I am very sensitive about my smile - many of my patients are edentulous and I am terrified of finding out that I may have to loose a tooth or have wildly extensive procedures - so, I don't go so I don't have to hear it! Unfortunately, I have had to have some work done and have gone to places because they offered cable television in the chair, fancy headphone/glasses combinations and a variety of teas and waters in the reception. The work did not match the "atmosphere" they were trying to create, the prices were higher than I felt necessary and occasionally the receptionist remembered my name. Dr. Kim and his staff are simply the best. I have had a lifelong fear of the dentist causing anxiety and normal anesthesia just does not work for me. Dr. Kim completely understood and made me feel at ease. I have gone to him for years and discussed extensive cosmetic surgery. This year, because of his expertise and kind care, I have a complete new smile. I sat in the chair for long sessions, up to three hours and had 5-6 teeth done in a session. I recently visited Smiles on Madison. The offices are clean with a pleasant atmosphere. The receptionists and staff are welcoming and greet you with smiles. I had an unbelievably bad root canal (by another dentist) resulting in anxiety about, and during dental visits. Dr. Kim and his staff were very calming and sensitive to my needs. I came in for a nightguard replacement and was impressed with the technology used to scan for my nightguard (remember impressions goo?). Dr. Kim is super upbeat and provided a thorough, relaxing, and stress-free experience start to finish! As far as the night guard goes, superior in quality and fit. I've had (and destroyed) several and this fits better and feels more durable than any previous version. No break-in period needed here! Evelyn and Dr. Kim are great. I have been a patient for several years and the whole team makes dental care very easy and stress free. Scheduling is easy (often Saturday appointments work), they send confirmation texts or calls and once the visit is over they're very helpful with insurance and billing. I recently had an appointment with the Dental Hygentist, Eileen, at Smiles on Madison. I have been to several dentist offices in my years, and I must say, I was very impressed. My teeth never looked or felt so clean. She took the time to properly educate me on how to floss and brush more effectively and efficently without making me feel inadequate. Shockingly, i was doing it all wrong. She didnt push any products forceably. (That was a big plus) Dr Kim was through and made sure to answer all my questions. It was a great decision to come to the folks here at Smiles on Madison. I would recommend them to anyone looking for excellent dental services. As a side note I have taken Eileen's advice and purchased a Sonicare toothbrush and water flosser. I definitely have noticed a difference than in conventional brushing and flossing. I found this dental practice through my insurer, Dental Health Services, and googled the dentists for reviews. The dentist I saw, Dr. Kamal Bajwa, is great! (and also on yelp individually for his Burien practice here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/bajwa-kamal-h-dds-burien ). I originally went for a second opinion on a root canal, and when my original dentist became suddenly unavailable, I decided to get my (much needed, it turned out) procedure done by Dr. Bajwa. This was my first root canal experience and Dr. Bajwa and his staff were pleasant, professional, and funny. I felt virtually no pain, and was in and out in under two hours. It is clear that Dr. Bajwa is a very adept and capable dentist, but he is also a great communicator- very direct but also polite, sincere, and caring. I really appreciated how he talked me through each step of the procedure, and checked in multiple times to make sure I wasn't experiencing any pain. The facility itself is brand-spankin-new (I think I may have been the first actual appointment in this new space), with beautiful finishes. The bathroom has cool fixtures and the dark, hip wood cabinetry and modern white and green tree/ leaf wallpaper in the exam area makes for a pleasant atmosphere. The front desk person, Lindsay, is great- extremely accommodating and friendly, very on top of insurance information and all in all, a really nice person. I should also mention that I've been extremely neglectful about going to the dentist in the last five years- but I didn't feel any judgement from Dr. Bajwa or his staff. All in all, I'm totally satisfied with my dental experience here, and I look forward to returning soon for a shiny new crown. read more

I love my dentist(!). She treats me with respect while maintaining a comfortable level of silliness sans nitrous. The folks here are friendly and remember your face, and they have senses of humors! You come in and walk out with a smile. I was sad because I had my first cavity at 25. To avoid scary trips to The Dentist I've taken especially good care of my teeth, but I suppose it eventually happens. None of the nightmarish images I had were reality. It was all v.v. chill in their space age bachelor pad dental office-- except rather than listening to Esquivel we enjoyed a lovely mix of African tribal music and indie. Since then, I've had no problems and am not even stressed about going in for a cleaning/check-up in June. I had a filling done here and although the doctor did the drilling, the filling was done by an assistant and she was absolutely terrible. She was rough and I left with an ache jaw that she claimed was "normal". I foolishly believed her and left, only to come back a week later after suffering from pounding headaches and a limited ability to chew on foods. Furthermore, I noticed that my tooth felt abnormally small because she had drilled additionally to get the filling right. Does that even make sense?? I went back in with complaints and they refused to take responsibility. Instead they blamed it on my teeth grinding (which I've done since childhood without jaw issues) and then suggested I take muscle relaxants. No thanks. Anyway, I'm never going back to Smiles on Madison. read more

The entire staff is really friendly, it doesn't feel like being in a dentists office until they have their tools in your mouth. A Dentist's Office is the last place in the icy Pacific North West that I expected to leave with a smile on my face. I chose this office originally because it was close to my house and took my insurance. But I couldn't have hit better luck. I came here after an almost 10 year hiatus from professional dental care. Whoops. The care was professional, the tone was educational, yet lighthearted, and the people are just plain nice. I think they must all secretly be from the South, like me. Even if you're the super-surly PNW type, this place still does a great job, has a very nice space, and is surprisingly affordable, given. But for me it's about the people, and I'm pretty sure, if my teeth were a bit more wack, I'd just lounge in the lobby all day long and hang out with these cool cats. P.S. I used to love going to the dentist...before I became an adult and no longer had the awesome experience of getting a sticker from the treasure box at the the end of each appointment. I dreaded it to the point I have waited until I have to go to an emergency dental place on the weekend and pay twice more than I should! Needless to say, I have had a slew of horrible experiences in Seattle, but this was far from it. I called, reluctantly, after several weeks of pain in my tooth and was greeted kindly by Lindsay, who works at the front desk (and is the insurance/billing guru). She was incredibly sweet and understanding of my situation of needing both an ongoing dentist and an emergency check. She checked my insurance and within an hour, she called to tell me that there would be no charge for the initial visit and that I was in-network. I appreciated knowing beforehand, even though I knew I would be in for a root canal, eventually, and was willing to pay whatever it took to get a good dentist. I saw Dr. Tseng at my first (and subsequent appointments) and she is fantastic. I have some serious anxiety about going to the dentist since becoming an adult and she was incredibly thorough in explaining everything to me, both before and during. My intial assessment wasn't too overwhelming (because they didn't lay it all on me or make it sound like I was doomed to have thousands of dollars of dental bills in the upcoming year) and they were able to let me know what should be done immediately to maximize my future dental health. I also was able to have a quick impromptu consult from their orthodontist regarding getting a retainer. At my first root canal appointment, it became painful and I had tears in my eyes at one point and they stopped immediately and told me I could come back. This was appreciated because I hate being an inconvenience. All around, they were understanding and kind. They even called to check up on me the next day. They also did a great job with explaining the treatment plan and prioritizing what needed to be done soon and what could wait. They were even open to me getting something done sooner in order to make it easier to floss and not be uncomfortable! Lindsay also was great at figuring out how to best maximize my mediocre dental benefit for the year to minimize my out of pocket expenses. A few other awesome things I love about this place: they genuinely seem to like each other, Dr. Tseng goes abroad to help others in need of dental care, Lindsay is funny and friendly at the same time and is great at remembering faces, the music is pretty great to listen to most days, they are affordable and honest, the hygienists seem to know what they are doing and have great rapport with the dentists, and I don't dread going to the dentist anymore. read more

This is a fabulous dentist's office! All the receptionists and hygienists are super friendly and helpful. I see Dr. Hamberg, who has always made me feel very comfortable and done a fast, excellent job. Also, I have been here about five times now and I've never had to wait more than a couple minutes in the lobby, which is remarkable considering that most doctor and dentist's offices seem to keep you waiting there forever. What really sold me on this place, though, is the music. On my first visit they were playing Belle and Sebastian and The Smiths. Only in Seattle, I guess! Anyway, listening to actual good music while you're in the chair is the icing on the cake. read more

I've been Dr. Kim's patient for 12 or 13 years and followed him to his new location when he bought this business. Even though I've now lived in Federal Way for several years, I've stayed with him. That should testify to my trust, commitment, and complete satisfaction in him and his staff, who also followed him to Smiles On Madison. Sensitive to patient needs, he and his staff provide outstanding competent, compassionate care using state-of-the-art equipment. They take a gentle approach to treatment, so you always feel at ease. Moreover, enough cannot be said about Dr. Kim's personal and professional integrity, honesty, and ethics. In a time when some dentists push costly procedures that are lucrative but unnecessary, Dr. Kim is irreprehensible. Honestly the best experience I've had at a dental office. I first moved to Seattle late September, and I had my filling fall out in October. I hadn't bothered to look for a dentist because I was lazy and stupid, and I ended up paying for it big time by having my right back molar hurt like hell in late December. I was in a lot of pain, both physical and mental, as I was looking up dentists, trying to find one that would take in and see a new patient so close to the holiday season. Smiles on Madison was the first place that picked up my call and had an actual person answer (and not the answering machine), took my insurance, and had an opening the next day. I showed up the next day, filled out some brief paperwork, and Dr. Kim saw me around five minutes after. He was super patient and kind with me, and gave me a quick emergency filling since I had to leave town the following day and was unable to stay to get the possible root canal I needed. The filling lasted for around two weeks, and saved me from a lot of unnecessary pain before I was able to get the root canal out of town. When I came back, Dr. Kim was able to order the crown for me, and a few weeks later, Dr. Chua was able to put the crown on and did a full set of dental exams. Dr. Kim, Dr. Chua, and the assistant were all great, and made sure I felt comfortable the whole way, and talked me through every step to make sure I knew what was going on. If I was in any sort of pain, they didn't hesitate to numb me some more and I barely felt anything. The receptionist was also prompt with billing my insurance and explained every line of my receipt to me and made sure I wasn't getting charged for things I didn't pay for. I'm definitely going to keep going back and feel safe knowing that my teeth are in their capable hands. Also, my new crown is awesome, feels great, and I'm so happy I can eat again on the right side of my teeth. :P read more

My toddler fell and clearly loosened his front teeth. I was a wreck, especially with this happening in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.
