Thank you Dr. Tobler! Last Monday (Aug. 25) I had an abscessed tooth and didn't even know it. What I did know was that I was in extreme pain and thought it was a root going bad. Nope. It was an infection under a crown that already had a root canal. Pain was awful, especially when biting down. The bill was ---- worth it let's say. I don't have dental insurance but my kind sister Tam footed the bill for me. They bumped me in right away after I declared a "dental emergency." Which it was. I didn't want to lose #19, but the doctor said it's the only thing to do. Sam and all the dental assistants were very helpful, polite and friendly--the best. Had to go the Z=pack route because of the infection, but the doctor prescribed exactly the meds I needed. This is my go-to dentist after this experience. Top recommendation, and one of the few that I found that offers Nitrous Oxide for comfort. read more

As a patient, be sure to check closely at Ballard Dental Arts insurance coverages. We scheduled appointments when one Dr was a part of our in network coverage, only to have Ballard Dental Arts drop out of our plan by the time we went to the appointment. In addition, one of us was given a dentist who was never a part of our plan coverage. So, two issues. Check before you go to the appointment to make sure they are still a part of your plan. Second, make sure that they schedule you with your plan's dentist. You cannot depend on the dental office to do this, apparently. read more

Within two minutes of meeting me, the dentist suggested I have all four of my (already in for ten years) wisdom teeth pulled. I later told this to the hygienist and also said, "well, I'm definitely going to want to get a second opinion" when she replied harshly with, "if the dentist said to do it, you should probably just do it" I ended up getting that second opinion and they said that there was no need. Possibly a small cavity but nothing that even needed to be dealt with at this time and that we'd watch it, not pull out my teeth. I understand that you can see ten dentists and all will give you a different opinion but damn, pull out four teeth?! I think someone wants a new boat. read more

As someone who is new to Seattle, I was hesitant to find a new dentist but I absolutely enjoyed my experience at Ballard Dental Arts. Like many people, I do not enjoy going to the dentist as it can be a very stressful experience. But Ballard Dental Arts went above and beyond to make me feel stressed and less anxious overall. Their COVID systems are very efficient and they take the proper precaution to ensure everyone's safety. You fill out new patient paperwork online, complete a COVID questionnaire 24 hours prior to your appointment, check in outside, they call you in when they're ready, and then they take your temperature before you go into your visit. The team is amazing. Everyone is very friendly, nice, and informative. From checking in at the front desk to my initial exam, I felt very welcomed and heard. I had one of the most extensive check ups and was impressed by all of the diagnostic tools they used to perform the exam. Been coming here since May 2021 and they do a great job. My mouth actually feels clean and the hygienists go through each step of the process (cleaning, x-rays, etc.) so it's nice to be aware of what they're doing. They also have a designated parking lot for their business so that's helpful. Will continue to return for my 6 month cleanings. read more

I can't stop raving about my experience coming here as a new patient yesterday. During Covidian times, something like going to the dentist feels daunting and unsafe, but my visit left me feeling cared for and in the right hands. The check in process was seamless: fill out your forms online, complete a COVID survey 24 hours before coming in, call when you arrive and they will call/text you back when they're ready for you to enter their practice, temperature check, and then you're done. Proper precautions were taken at every step: wearing a mask around the office until you get to your chair, rinsing with a bacterial killing solution, doing the dental cleaning in a closed room so air droplets can't be spread. The team here is incredible - even though I was new I feel like I've been coming here for quite a while. It was my first experience at a dentist where I've felt like there was a conversation happening around my dental concerns (old/loose fillings), and productive measures being taken around those concerns. I'm used to dentists who poke and prod around, find unnecessary "concern areas" to zero in on, and push preventative treatment to make an extra buck off you. One of the crowns I had done here 4+ years ago has already completely failed. Another one is failing, and yet to be determined if it can be saved. I suspect the worst. Expect incompetence from the staff on up. May as well flush your money down the toilet. Avoid this place like the plague! Update 1: I spent 3+ hours at my current DDS last week while he addressed the issues with my crown on #18. It didn't take long till he was using choice language to describe the poor quality 'dental care' I received at Ballard Dental Arts. Turns out, that crown was fitted improperly, and started leaking day one. Literally rotted from the inside out. As I recall, that was one of the last crowns I had done there, and it's probably just over 3 years old. You will regret your decision to patronize this place. Just a matter of time. Getting me to the dentist is like pulling teeth (pun obviously intended). I have the heady cocktail of having the worst dental anxiety mixed with a not so healthy suspicion of healthcare providers. But you guessed it, Ballard Dental Arts is different. Everyone there is kind, upfront about costs (finally!), and very communicative. Every single action was explained to me with genuine care and without condescension. Siri, my hygienist, is wonderful! I have severe dental anxiety and a very sensitive mouth and these people all took really good care of me. I have a great fondness for the always-tan Dr. Hackney. He has a GREAT chair-side manner and is very gentle when it comes to rooting around in your mouth. His staff of hygienists are all skilled and friendly (especially Jenni) and the reception is run by one of the most efficient and kind ladies on the planet, Chris. The office is small and hasn't been updated in a while but none of this matters when the experience and service you receive is so exemplary. I can't say enough great things about Dr. Tobler and his team. I had a dental emergency on a Sunday evening when the office was closed. I left a voicemail and that same evening they had 3 people in the office and were able to get me in. Melissa, the dental assistant, was great and called to check on me the next day which I really appreciated. I had many follow up visits after my emergency and each time I was in the office everything was super smooth. Even the front office staff is awesome, especially Annie and Lisa. I had previously been a long time patient of Dr. Perry Jones, who retired. When I was transferred to Ballard Dental Arts, I was a little skeptical. I was called upon to ferry a friend home after her dental home so I called to verify the address before heading to Ballard. The receptionist confirmed my friend's appointment and joked that there was plenty of trashy magazines to read if I had to wait. Parking was easy. The clinic shares a lot with a local comic book store and the spots are clearly marked. Did I mention that the receptionist was the nicest that I've ever encountered? I waited in the lobby for about thirty minutes, intermittently checking my Twitter feed and flipping through some vapid fashion magazine. The receptionist went to check on my friend and came out to sit in the waiting room to give me an update on her. She detailed what would happen as the anesthetic faded and assured me that she'd feel better in a day or so. I'm seriously considering switching dentists after reading all of the positive reviews and hearing the firsthand account of my friend's visit. I noticed that the people who arrived for their appointments were seen in a timely fashion. The best dentist and dental office in Seattle! I will never go to another dentist if I can help it. Before discovering Dr. Jones I was really of the opinion that most dental care was somewhat similar. It is not an appointment i have ever looked forward to, but I have never received terribly bad service or substandard care from any of my previous dentists. However, Dr. Jones and his office staff really blew me away from the high quality of their patient correspondence, their thorough and extra caring service, painless dental work and extremely fair pricing. I recently had a particularly deep and effective cleaning at their office- boy my mouth felt fresh. To my surprise, later that day, I got a n extremely considerate follow up call from Dr. Jones' hygenist; she was calling me to check on whether I had any discomfort or sensitivity after my appointment. I have NEVER experienced any thing like this EVER, including the time I had my wisdom teeth removed in California!! Bonus on top of all this great stuff, is that this office always sends you home with tons of free goodies and dental gifts. it is like a little dental Christmas, each and every time I come to the office. I have been visiting Ballard Dental Arts for a few years and have had a consistently positive experience, even when that experience involved cavities and fillings. Dr. Tobler instantly puts you at ease. He is skilled, trustworthy, and patient to explain each step and option. I've definitely had dentists in the past who left me in the dark while they worked on my teeth, but Dr. Tobler goes out of his way to answer every question, sometimes before you even think to ask. Everyone is super friendly and smiley which is great. However, whenever I call the front desk and leave a voicemail for a call back I never receive one. It also would be great for follow up email on my free Sonicare toothbrush which I'm excited about (like that perk!). And, if they could set up some private portal computer system where I can pay my bill online. Not getting a call back just to pay the bill and be done with it is irritating. Also, Dr. M is good, very safe and friendly, but almost overly safe. He used so much lidocaine for my fillings that a part of my mouth was numb for a week. read more

So impressed by everything about my experience! I called for an emergency appointment around 1pm on a Friday. My implant crown had knocked loose and I desperately wanted it fixed before the weekend. I called and they saw me as soon as I was free a couple hours later. The front desk staff was incredibly kind and accommodating. I was new to the area so didn't have a dentist, and didn't have my dental insurance card with me. They did all the work to determine my coverage. The dentist was extremely kind and fixed me right up! 5 Stars for Ballard Dental Clinic - 2 Stars for Ballard Dental Arts. I've been going to see Dr. Dean for years and loved every single interaction with him. Recently he retired and handed the clinic off to the next generation. The new office vibe is hip and trendy which is a welcomed update, but that's where the positive changes end. I had my first filling from the new staff and just a few weeks ago and am currently experiencing pain. I called to see about getting this fixed and options were tomorrow (at a time that I'm unavailable) or wait over a week. I would hope that the dentist that is working hard to build a solid reputation would take extra measures to ensure his patients very first experiences were nothing short of satisfactory (at the very least). This is not the case at Ballard Dental Arts. I'm immediately beginning my search for a new dentist. Thank you. read more

I get it. Going to the dentist is the worst. The idea of helplessly lying in a chair with ugly 80's sunglasses on while multiple people prod metal tools into your mouth and drills holes into your teeth seems like a nightmare even Jordan Peele couldn't make into a horror film. But visiting the dentist is a must-do if you care about your health and Dr. Kavita Sainanee at Ballard Dental Arts makes it a fantastic experience. She is incredibly sociable and approachable (especially for a dentist- you'd think she would have a career in sales or something). Most importantly, she is smart/knowledgeable and steady handed- and that's exactly what you want when you entrust your dental health to your doctor. She explains what she is doing for your teeth every step of the way and never hesitates to elaborate if I have any questions. She explains everything in simple terms for my simpleton mind and does so with a smile on her face. She isn't rushing out of the appointment to the next patient- you can tell every minute she spends with you is important to her. The office is clean and spacious with a nice waiting area. There is plenty of parking available. Her staff is friendly and knowledgable. 5 stars and I'm not one who usually gives out 5 stars. read more

Super friendly and helpful staff that snagged me some great appointments last week and got me in and out of the dentist chair in a timely fashion. Dr. Jones is patient, enthusiastic, kind, thoughtful, attentive, friendly, and down to earth. Exactly what I want in a dentist. If you are going to be digging around in my mouth, then you best better be cool as hell! And he was rated in Seattle Metropolitan Magazine as one of Seattle's top dentists in 2009. Go Dr. J! That rocks! His office is not fancy or anything modern, but who needs that when you got yourself an amazing dentist on your hands! I live in Cali, but found myself at lunch at Lake Union late on a Friday afternoon with a broken tooth. Frantically calling Dentists in the Seattle phone book (yeah, I know... old school) I got Dr. Jones' office on the line. They saw me in less than an hour AND DID NOT CHARGE ME for the quick peak at the damage (recommendation to get home to my dentist and get a crown). Very nice guy, professional, and his team at the office were totally professional and concerned about my situation. IF I lived in Seattle, I would be signing him up as my dentist. read more

These guys were amazing... Dr. Tobler, Cecelia "C", and Malina were so nice, helpful, understanding, accommodating. My teeth are very messed up and I am honestly extremely embarrassed about that. They weren't judgmental at all, and were the best team of healthcare providers I've ever interacted with. This was in an emergency dental thing, and the office staff were able to fit me in because Dr. Tobler had a cancellation. Unbelievable. When it was determined that I needed a crown, the office lady came in and talked to me at my side and explained the cost of everything in detail so there were no surprises. I'm switching jobs soon, and my only concern is that I have dental insurance at the new gig that BDA accepts. (Fingers crossed). Props again to Dr. Tobler and staff. This guy filled three of my teeth and I'm left with a horrible pain there almost 6 months later still. Had them check it out but everything looked normal, so he suggested a root canal. wtf? I felt like he was overly invasive with my teeth, and left them unevenly low in comparison with the other side. I mentioned it, and they kept insisting it was normal and it just felt funny to me. um, not like that. A friend of mine had the same experience. Chris at the front desk is fabulous, Madeleine was super gentle and educated me without scolding me, which was great. Not having gone to the dentist for over 6 years, I was VERY nervous and everyone was great about making me comfortable. Dr. Dean was quick to see me and very thorough. The office has early morning 7am appointments, which makes it nice to get in and out before the workday if you have a tight schedule, like me :) I am actually possibly looking forward to my 6-month cleaning appointment? I recently moved away from Ballard and my insurance changed with work and I am forced to change dentists. This is very sad for me as I have been going to Ballard Dental for a few years now and have never had such a wonderful experience at a DENTIST ever. Even the word for many of us gives us anxiety! Chris at the front desk, the best there is! The Hygienists, unbelievably friendly and helpful. Dr. Dean Hackney... funny, kind, gentle, thorough. Besides cleanings, I had to have wisdom teeth out 2 years in a row. Both times I was terrified and Dr. Dean assured me I did not need to be put under for the procedure as my teeth were not impacted badly and he was confident he could do them easily. Who wants to be awake for that though right? But, I did take his advice and had him do them both times and not only was he incredibly gentle, he talked me through it and honestly... it was a piece of cake! I really felt nothing! I'm not going to lie, having a tooth out is not fun as there are sights and sounds you really don't want to be aware of but it was pain free and super quick so I made it though. I had some issues with healing and he made sure that my comfort was number one and helped me get through each day. It is my hope that I can make my way back to this clinic at some point. I haven't been to the dentist in over a year as I don't want to find a new one!!!! One last thing.. I used to be part of a theater troupe..we put on a show and Dr. Dean & his staff showed up to support us. It IS possible to have your Dentist feel like family. read more

Thank you, thank you! I can't say enough good things about these folks! I've had a nightmare experience with a tooth extraction and this wonderful staff took such good care of me. Over a year ago I broke a molar which led to infection. Ouch. Saw a dentist. He sent me to another dentist for a root canal. They couldn't perform a root canal so they numbed me, gave me a temporary filling and sent me on my way (they were terribly rude but that's a whole other story). Whatever they used made me terribly shaky so I told the NEXT dentist I was sent to for my extraction and he used the same stuff! I left numb, shaky, and twitching with a painful tooth still in tact. So not happy. It took me another 6 months to brave up and try another dentist. I found Ballard Dental Clinic and oh man! The receptionist is super sweet, the hygienists couldn't be more gentle and re-assuring and Dr.Dean is a pro. He used something other than my nemesis, epinephrine, to numb me up, told me everything he was going to do and literally pulled that tooth in less 10 minutes. Seriously, this tooth has caused me so much stress, anxiety and discomfort over the past year, I am so grateful I found this place. Highly recommend! read more

I was looking for a new dentist when my friend referred me to Dr. Perry Jones. He and his staff are so friendly, professional, and do an amazing job! They worked with me in my treatment (instead of just doing something and then charging me for it) and followup appointments were very efficient. I think it's rare that you can find a dentist and office staff that you can so wholeheartedly trust to be looking out for your best interest (and of course the best interest of your dental health!). In addition, the office administrators remembered my name after my very first visit, even referencing some subjects we'd talked about the last time I was there. While this is not the most important thing in finding a dentist, it definitely wraps the whole experience up in a nice little bow :) read more

I would give them 10 stars if I could. I am so glad that I landed on them from the aetna insurance page. Let's see, first I called and spoke to Kris on the phone who was absolutely delightful to speak with. Then I left a message on the recorder the night before my appointment because I forgot the time, and I got a phone call PROMPTLY when they opened to confirm. I went in for my appointment, and had great care by his assistant Madeline who explained a lot to me. You can really tell she cared about her job, and she had been doing it for 15 plus years. The doc (Robert Hackney) came in after and explained everything to me and what my options were. He didn't push either option on me, but told me the risks and benefits. Being a medical provider myself, I can definitely appreciate someone who practices medicine like that. He's not out doing a "wallet biopsy" like some of the people I've worked with. His demeanor is excellent. Muy insurance was expiring this month and they made some adjustments to get me in before the end of the month, and I can't express how grateful I am for that. When I went in today, he explained everything before he did what he did, which alleviates any anxiety. Although, I'm not that type of person to get anxious, if I were, I would definitely appreciate it. As for his technical skill, he knocked out the nerve the first time around. I've been to many dentist where they had to inject a few times. I had a tooth pulled and two deep cavities redone. I didn't feel a THING!! I took one ibuprofen after because I was getting a headache, but now 8 hours after, I feel fine, no pain. I can't guarantee you'll have no pain haha, but...i would highly recommend him. Like I said, I would recommend this place without hesitation. I almost felt like passing out flyers when I left telling people how great they are and that they should go there. If I had cash and lived elsewhere, I would fly in if I had any work to be done, and that is fact!! read more

Dr. Jones is incredible in his practice. I have had several things done that, at other offices, have required local anesthetic. But at Dr. Jones office (Ballard Dental Arts), he was able to perform everything from fillings to veneers (including full prep-work) with no anesthetic and no pain and very little discomfort during the procedures. Dr Dean is the best dentist I ever went to. He was funny, professional, and very very thorough. He made sure he fixed me up right, kept me well informed, and the rest of the staff were also totally amazing. I am going to be going to them as long as I live in Seattle. They are really worth going to. Dont hesitate. I have extreme dentist fear and they actually had me laughing in the dentist chair between drillings. I may be a guy but am actually more like a little girl at the thought of getting dental work done. I have a serious aversion to pain and discomfort, so I really have to pscyh myself up to visit the dentist. I had been neglecting my dental care so made an overdue appointment with Ballard Dental Clinic based on their convenient location and good yelp reviews. I had an appointment for x-rays and a check up and a cleaning and everything was to my satisfaction. The receptionist was pleasant, the hygenist was thorough and efficient while at the same time making me feel relaxed and distracted from my ordeal. Dr. Dean who did the examination was friendly and attentive and was very forthright in his evaluation and answered all my questions fully. I am going to need more extensive work in the future and have no qualms about coming back here to get it done. read more

We fought long and hard about making a well-passed-due appointment, so finally she called this place based upon its Yelp reviews and insurance accommodation. And while I have yet to sit down in a chair to get work done on my own teeth, every interaction I've had with any staff member has been nothing short of warm and friendly. I love a dental clinic. How weird is that? I hate anything to do with dentistry and teeth and *shudder*... which explains why I ended up here for an emergency appointment with a big old abscess under my tooth. I'd scheduled a cleaning on their books, but several weeks beforehand I woke up with terrible pain in my jaw. They managed to get me in five minutes after I called. "Dr. Dean" took no time at all in figuring out the troublemaker tooth and scheduled me for a wisdom tooth extraction the next day. I was absolutely petrified, but the staff were so friendly and warm, and worked so hard to set me at ease. Dr. Dean got the tooth out very quickly with no pain, and I felt so much better I actually went back a week later to get the other one out! They really go out of their way to make you comfortable, and even called me a few hours after the procedure to check up and see how I was doing. Just makes you feel very well-cared-for. I can't say enough nice things about these folks, and can only hope writing this review & sending more patients their way is payment for giving me a pain-free jaw! read more

I was completely pleased with my visit. And I'll definitely be back! Chris the receptionist is kind, capable, intelligent and genuine... My hygienist Jenni was adorable, sympathetic to my sensitive gums, and efficient without rushing. And she is clearly geeky about her job, because she kept jumping into random trivia discussions, which was also adorable! Dr. Dean is warm, knowledgeable and empathetic to all my concerns. They leveled with me about the possibility of my needing a root canal, and didn't smooth over my worries about it--Chris said she has had three, and they're not as bad as the stories lead you to believe.
