Dr. Butson did not do a good job on the $4,000 crown he made for my implant in 2010. I learned this last week when it popped off the abutment. I need a new crown because Dr. Butson's crown never did fit. He cemented it in place, knowing full well what was going to happen. I've been going to Dr. Butson for about three years now. I was referred to him by my grandmother who was having problems with her partial and remaining natural teeth. His professionalism, knowledge, and his ability to connect with his patients on a personal level really were stand out for me. Every time I go in for my regular cleanings he always asks how my grandmother is doing. I don't want to forget his wonderful staff from the people at the front to the hygienists, his team is wonderful, quick and efficient, professional, and wonderful. I have only had my regular cleanings and one filling in the time I've been a patient, so I cannot speak to the specialty dental work Dr. Butson also provides from a personal standpoint, but I do know from my grandma's experience that the creates the crowns and partials in his own lab, saving the patient money by cutting out the middle man. He is open early in the morning so that people can come before work, which is a plus. They also validate parking which is fantastic. Dr.Timothy Butson is the best prosthodontics specialist in NW. Excellent skills, knowledges, and precise work. He has been my dentist for 12 years!! Even driving from Portland twice a year, Dr.Butson is the only dentist I will see. I had horrible trauma to my 18 front teeth ( upper & lower) caused by malpractice from a dentist in Vancouver,WA. I've seen multiple speciality dentists to fix my teeth, I wasn't able to eat any solid food, cold or hot drinks for over 1 year, until I met Dr.Butson. The worth of a primary care dentist is often found in they handle challenging cases, both in their own chair and in their referrals - how much standing they have in the community to get you in with specialists. As a formerly uncomplicated lady who's now got an army of dentists on her case, I urge you to see Dr. Butson or somebody like him, even if your oral health is good. He is kind, relatable and almost surreally nice. He's also highly trained and exacting - he'll catch that spot of oral cancer, that smoldering infection, that wiggly filling that might not be bothering you yet. I am lucky to have Dr. Butson directing a team of my oral health doctors. He won my trust back, after years of having a medical problem that affected my teeth and never feeling like I got sound, evidence based advice from the dentists I saw. One offered me 100 units of Botox. Cosmetic dentistry is so absurd - like going to a neurologist and being offered a haircut. Dr. Butson doesn't make me feel like he's trying to do anything but preserve my health and mitigate my suffering. It's healthcare. He's undaunted by complexity - he actually seems to enjoy working on such a case. Of note is that Dr. Butson's presence is so relaxing and soothing that he doesn't have to use nearly as much local anesthetic. He just... nices the pain away. Well, he works VERY quickly while talking to me - I have a hard time with numbing agents and I've been able to get several fillings without them. Before Dr. Butson? I used to need IV sedation for a cleaning. He has so much empathy and ability to read body langyage that I trust him not to hurt me. If I believed in calling people rock stars, I'd say he's a total rock star dentist. Dr. Butson is the best dentist I've ever had. Not only is he really honestly the nicest man alive, he's a fabulous dentist who really cares about his patients. He gave me a crown so good-looking I can't even remember which tooth it was on. His staff is great from his dental assistant to the oral hygienists to the front staff...particularly Robert, who patiently assisted me through a complicated billing situation. Dr. Butson's awesome. He's been our dentist for over ten years. He specializes in cosmetic dentistry but is a fantastic regular dentist as well. All those initials after his name don't come cheap, though. But I've made the mistake of discount dentistry a few times in my life, much to my regret. Last year Dr. Butson and Dr. Farhat, the oral surgeon, took care of some botched oral surgery that was done about 14 years ago. My teeth and gums look great now. Behind the scenes I suspect Dr. Butson may be a harsh taskmaster -- he put in many years as a captain in the reserve -- but to his patients he is kind and gentle. I completely trust him for all of our dental work. Note: he recently moved to 1 Union Square and is not at 720 Olive anymore. I decided that my review of Dr. Butson was rather harsh. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I must say, Dr Butson and his staff have been nothing but exceptional. I have an elderly father who hasn't been to the dentist in many, many years. He wears dentures that no longer fit him properly. I called them and explained the situation and warned them that my father can be a bit cranky. Dr Butson is amazing with my father, my father gets to talk about his time in World War II and Dr Butson talks about his time spent in the Navy. We decided to take the path of least resistance due to my fathers age and health. Dr. Butson is making his old dentures work, saving him money and the stress of having to go through Oral surgery. My observations of Dr Butson is, he is very patient, respectful and has a great sense of humor. I have nothing but nice stuff to say about the entire staff, they are wonderful to my father and very accommodating. You guys ROCK! read more

Dr. Butson is one of the nicest people I've ever met. He really cares about his patients and is not one of those dentists who make you feel like crap because you have a cavity. I had to unfortunately have a lot of dental work done, but he was so pleasant to deal with that it made it a much better experience. My friend also goes to see him and she had a cold last time and he offered her a blanket. His office seems a lot more high tech than my previous dentist as well. I recently started feeling slight dental pain and having gone to Dr. Butson's once before, left them two messages at work to come into the office. After no reply on the same day, I was starting to feel that the glowing Yelp reviews may have been wrong... ...turns out, it was the complete opposite! The office called me back early the next morning (which was actually AH-MAZING because the slight dental pain morphed into major swelling that kept me up most of the night) and managed to get me an appointment immediately. Dr. Butson went above and beyond in examining not only my tooth but the surrounding areas, diagnosing it was an infection and got in touch with an oral surgeon immediately to book me an emergency consultation the very same day. He cleaned up my mouth (he said it would probably hurt, but it didn't at all--kudos to his skill), and got me on antibiotics right away. On top of it all, he was extremely sympathetic (kind of what you need when you're hurting). Very impressive, and I'm very thankful of their excellent service and care. read more

My experience with Dr. Butson was the most negative dental experience I've ever had. He did several crowns and bridges for me over the course of a number of appointments. I do not recommend Dr. Butson for the following reasons: 1. His behavior was unprofessional and downright frightening at times. He spoke harshly to his staff and he yelled and swore when things weren't going well. For example, he took an impression tray out of my mouth, looked at it, and then cursed, "G-ddammit!" This behavior was in marked contrast to my initial visit where he appeared very gentle and kind. I dubbed him Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde. 2. Without asking me for input, he created crowns that had yellow staining on them for a more "natural look" which I did not like at all. 3. My most serious complaint is that two years after having spent thousands of dollars on this crown and bridge work, it all had to be removed. Large open margins were discovered throughout the work - that means bacteria can get in underneath the crowns and cause decay. Dr. Butson is an experienced prosthodontist and he absolutely should have known better; he should have taken x-Rays after seating my crowns and bridges to ensure there were no open margins. In conclusion, my visits to Dr. Butson's office were a nightmare because of his anger management issues, and in the end, the poor quality work did not make it worth enduring his temper. I recommend you look elsewhere for a prosthodontist who takes pride in his work and who has a pleasant chairside manner. read more

After trying several dentists in my area and having horrible experiences I decided to try someone in my hometown of Seattle hoping for a dentist I could actually stick with. Luckily I found the place! Other places I've been to had everything from painful drillings to impersonal hygienists and even a dentist with bad breath! Dr Buston is always very friendly and is always checking on me to make sure I'm comfortable. Cavities and fillings are never fun, but I can say I've had the least painful and fastest experience at this office. They also welcome my daughter when I need to bring her. I used to be a patient a few years ago and left then because there were extra x-rays taken that I didn't need and were not covered by insurance. I had to pay about $250 out of pocket for a standard teeth cleaning with no issues and extra x-rays. I recently attempted to return to give them another chance and had the office research to ensure that I would be covered. I was clear that I could only come back if the visit was completely covered by insurance and that I did not want a surprise bill after the fact. The office person called me and said that they called and I would be covered so i set my appointment. When I was there I also had them call to make sure they did not take any extra x-rays. The cleaning itself was as expected, so no complaints. A month later I got a $160 bill in the mail after my insurance paid out their part. This is exactly why I asked about the coverage first and had them call about any additional x-rays when I was there. Basically, my standard teeth cleaning and standard bite wing x-rays were approx $500 in total. I will not be returning as client and do not recommend them for poor billing practices. read more

I went to Dr. Butson for years and everything seemed fine. Eventually I had a cleaning there which was barely more than I could have done myself; in other words, it made little difference. Then I noticed that the insurance had been billed for a scaling and planing-about $2500. I had to pay this out of pocket 8 months later from another dentist because insurance only covers the cost of the procedure every three years. My new dentist said that what happened at Butson's office was pure insurance freud. I know that they were trying to encourage me to go shopping on my free parking, the receipts able to show that I was in the office less than an hour, a scaling and planing takes 4 hours. They refused to discuss the charges. It was all very distasteful and ugly. Unfortunately I should have pressed charges, and wish now that I had. read more

Who really likes the dentist? Who wants to spend money on getting that broken tooth fixed? Well, Dr. Butson makes the dentist as enjoyable as it can be, he made me feel very comfortable and attentive to my needs. I had broken a tooth a while back and wanted to wait on a crown until I really needed it... Surprise, surprise, I woke up with a tooth ache a couple months later. Dr. Butson was able to get me in, relieve the pain, and get my crown within a weeks time! Very impressive. He is truly an expert in his field, he has been practicing for a very long time (25 years?) and I'm happy to report that I have not had any problems with the crown that I've received. The entire process was so smooth. Thanks Dr. Butson! Dr. Butson and his staff are so helpful. Any problems that may occur with scheduling, billing, insurance questions, they're know it all. I used to see a different dentist, and I had been very very unhappy with a crown I had received there (the color was off and the shape was all wrong). I was at a periodontist's office getting the prep work and post done for a dental-implant (#27 - highly visible, lower right Canine) and when this periodontist asked when I would be seeing Dr. X for my crown, I responded, "I don't think I will be returning to Dr. X. Do you think you could recommend a different dentist -- like, if George Clooney were in town and needed to see someone, where would he go?" This periodontist told me to see Dr. Timothy Butson. After seeing him for a few years now, I would rank him as the Rolls-Royce or the Bentley of dentists. When you go to see him, he is 100% dedicated to your happiness as his client. He listens and responds to every one of your concerns. As a bonus, I have NEVER had to wait more than one minute past my appointment time to be seated in a dental chair. He offers very early appointment times for those who have trouble making appointments during regular business hours. Oh yeah, that crown I got from Dr. Buston: Coloring = Perfect Symmetry with my lower left Canine = Perfect Feel of the crown inside my mouth = Perfect Problems with the crown over the last 3+ years = None! read more
